Learn Dota 2 - My Wraith King Guide from 1k to 2.5k

My Wraith King Guide from 1k to 2.5k

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:28 PM PDT

A small but important tip to struggling mid players.

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 12:46 PM PDT

Recently I have been winning a lot more of my lanes (and games as a result) by prioritizing ranged creeps and denying my own. Having a decent block helps a lot, but using your abilities to secure ranged creeps is super helpful. Also, if your opponent doesn't have much regen, you can trade and punish them for greeding for ranged creeps as well. Killing a few enemy creeps before yours die also can help you win the trade even further. Just remember how important ranged creeps are when playing early lane. The exp and gold advantage you get from this is way more than you might expect.

How to improve my play on Dire side?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:14 PM PDT

I am trying to get better at the game so I started looking more into my stats i realized that I had 60% win rate on radiant and a shameful 32% on dire.

Is there any tricks that i can use when I'm on dire to improve?

Wanted to thank you guys. 1400mmr -> Divine

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 03:04 AM PDT

I was one of the delusional people you see on this sub all the time.

"can't get out of x mmr bracket because teammates bad"

"Is this forced 50% winrate really a thing?"

"got replay of smurf in my bracket so i can ez replicate what he does?"

etc.etc.

Got my ass handed to me in this sub and swallowed the hard pill of i'm actually shit at the game and started to try and improve with watching high mmr players and my own replays etc.

My goal from the start was to hit 4k(higher then any of my friends who had played the game much longer then me).

From 1400-4k went pretty fast, since then i haven't really grinded solo but played it occasionally, but i never stopped playing party games or watching dota so i guess that's why i improved.

For anyone curious i got divine @

4877 Solo 5062 Party

Opendota

Smurf

So thanks for giving me the hard reality check and info\discussions that are here.

What should I be doing as an Offlane Support?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 10:42 AM PDT

After starting the Purge/ Day9 videos I've recently learned it's Bad to sit in lane with your carry, you should be zoning (i.e. kiting the enemy, right?) other team and pulling in order to keep creep equilibrium, stacking, etc.

However when I had to play support in offlane (dire in this example) I was quite lost on what I should be doing, pulling seemed nigh impossible because of how far the distance was which made timing feel super difficult.

From some research, it seems like that's not really what you do in offlane as support, you should mainly be focusing on harassing and ruining enemy team's pulling attempts?

Just looking for guidance here, feeling a bit lost if I end up getting sent to offlane.

Namaste Need Help

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 01:40 PM PDT

Hey guys, I started watching dota2 professional tournaments this year(without ever playing a game of dota2) and enjoyed it very much. It took me quite a while to understand the basics and stuff. Now I have just started playing, I need some help.

I know some basic things, items and strategy but this game feels a bit hard to say the least. I'm just spamming turbo (with earthshaker, wraith king and dk) to get used to some game mechanics.

Can you guys suggest me some noob-friendly support heroes (i don't want to play cores as I am not good with farm) as I love warding, using smoke and dust, etc.

I know I have a long way to learn all the stuff, so any help is welcome. Also if you can tell me what are the mistakes new players make, what I shouldn't do as a support, what to do when my carry is underfarmed, when to effectively use smoke, how much gold to spend on sentries and wards and smoke n stuff, when to buy gem of true sight ?

Is turbo mode good for learning or do I have to play unranked games ? When to touch ranked games ?

Anything else you wanna share, some tricks and stuff about current meta.

Thanks a lot.

you get your cores to push and take objectives?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 02:30 PM PDT

I usually play pos 4 or 5. When it's clear the other team has better late game heroes, I want my team to push, gank, take towers, take rosh, break high ground. How do I stop my team from farming and playing safe? I've try getting deep wards and getting smoke for when they are ready. I also explain that we don't have the late game heroes. Anything else?

How is grimstroke played pre 6 as a pos 4?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 07:38 PM PDT

I've seen guides that say put more importance in his q and w. His q hits hard if you aim correctly but compared to leveling w and e (let's say 1-2-1 build at level 4 with either 1-1-1 or 0-2-1 at 3), you can be a lot more aggressive especially with a lane partner who can scare enemies from hitting your phantom. The reason why i don't put more levels in his q is that i just cast his w on an enemy, then cast e on myself then run at the enemies. If they're still alive, q does minimum damage most of the time. Also, I don't think he has enough mana to q spam heroes out of the lane, spamming q also just pushes the lane out which isn't good in some circumstances.

As fast as possible, I'd want to get 3 levels in w, but I noticed that gimps him in the midgame. So I max his Q after putting 2 levels in w and 1 in e.

Easy ways to win mid in low MMR.

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 07:31 PM PDT

I beat people with atleast 1.5 k more mmr with this so you know it works.

Step 1. Try not to get counterpicked hard. For me (huskar spam) this is probably clinkz with the most broken skill in the game on 15 second cooldown+ orb walking + about 200 more attack range+ more mobility for runes. I mean wtf. Send me some tips to beat this fucker. Moving on.( I can only think of turtling, then buying aquila treads helm, followed by friggin euls rush).

Step 2. Get a good block. Not too hard in 1k. This gives you options.

Step 3. Decide to either shove the wave under their tower or last hit. If you want to shove, kill their range creep. If you want to stay on your hill deny yours.

Step 4. You must have couriered a salve at the min 0. Whenever you feel you're ready, fuck the last hits and start going at them. There should be less creeps or more of your creeps(like 2 more atleast).

Step 5 man up and start right clicking and using your abilities. They might fight. That's where the tango you ate and the faerie fire you purchase come in handy. Worst case is you both die. Don't bother. You must assert that you are the boss here.

Step 6. Other person might go under tower. Follow them. if they pull the creeps further back then go there. Eyes on the map tho. Always vigilant. That's what moody said and guess what, you're in a wizard game.

Step 7. Constantly be sending faerie fires tangoes and salves and clarity. Like every purchase must have one of those as well.

Step 8. Buy only items like Aquila(every mid should buy this I guess) wand, treads, double nulls maybe? But those items. No rushing battlefury, or BoTs or shadowblade. And bottle is an extra not the source of all regen.

Step 9 keep fighting. Clear the waves and keep hitting. The second they have more creep kill them, especially the range one It's ok if they deny. Kill them for it.

Step 10. You should be level 5/6 right now. Focus on shoving the wave. And then jumping them with your ult. If you can't, then quickly farm camps. Now you just scale your advantage up and keep them completely down.

For those who think this only works with huskar, I have randomed ember and won mid vs higher mmr people(only 30 games and that too not played for 200 games minimum). I won against a morph, but that's no big deal, I could beat probably any common mid like sf or invo that way. And definitely pudge. Tinker too.

If you never let them start, they wont ever snowball, and guess what, it's 1k so they can't counter it. They'd literally have to jump atleast 500 mmr higher in a match.

PS. Respect the support. Buy wand against spammer support like grim/ ogre and focus on survivability on any hero, like ember gets more flame guard(provided there is no dispel like tornado) or huskar gets blood. Storm gets overload, because getting pull when you're running away is stupid, but if think you can take em, then it's good cus you get a double kill under tower. That can be done with maybe a half full wand and a faerie fire. Im sure some good players can tell you how they did this all the time

Does spectre outcarry medusa

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 01:07 AM PDT

These 2 heroes are late game farm heroes who are godlike with items. Bit are extremely tanky late. Medusa gets eye of skadi and she wins game. At that point she has decent killing power. Aslo I never build linkens. 3 years ago yes but today no. With Spectre, it's raidiance and manta. Also Medusa only needs mask of madness to farm because she has splitshot. That means she can get items faster. Apparently she counters Spectre. So does am. The thing I'm worried about is the same as am. Am needs to end the game fast of he loses and that isn't exactly ideal. We've all experienced a farmed Spectre. A farmed Spectre is nigh unkillable in teamfights. The way to beat her is to focus on pushing. She LA as hard and as fast as possible.dont worry about fighting. Just take the towers. Anyways does Medusa vs Spectre have the same issue as am where you need to end fast because you get outcarried.

Heros that are niche if there's no natural counter

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:31 AM PDT

Hello everyone

I just want to ask are there any heros who can almost always win when there aren't any counters to them in the draft?

For example I feel enchatress will always win if the enemy team doesn't have any nukers. Are there other heros out there like ench so I would take them into account more in the drafting phase.

I also hear this alot about brood but I haven't played her yet can someone explain to me why is that? And how to counter her.

New to Dota 2 looking for a few heroes to main

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:28 PM PDT

I'm a player transferring from HOTS after a friend recommended and I am about 10 - 15 games in and have been playing unranked both all pick and turbo and am familiar with the general mechanics but not all the items. Mechanically, I am decently strong coming from another MOBA landing skillshots etc. is not a problem and so far have been playing vengeful spirit in the safe lane with decent success. I am looking to play mid and wondering what is a strong pick at higher levels. I have looked at this international but they seem quite mixed with quite a lot of different heroes. I played mostly solo lane in HOTS so I am looking for someone who is best at winning the lane as the highest priority. If anyone is familiar Blaze and Yrel but it seems that I can get my sustain through items and smart play so I don't really care for someone who is similar. TLDR: come from HOTS want to main a mid lane hero who is the best at winning lane at higher levels.

Thanks for any help and feedback, I will reply in comments.

UK Dota 2 Buddy Up?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:14 PM PDT

Hey r/learndota2!

I've been a long time lurker and occasional commenter and poster. Just relocated to the UK from Australia and would love a few lads to party up and play some mad dotes with. I'm a bit of a scrub - play at about a 3k level positions 3 through to 5.

I've been travelling and out of dota action for about 6 months now but watched TI and am now super keen to get back involved. Let me know if you're keen for a game!

How to finish up the rat

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 10:51 AM PDT

Hi all, I just faced back-to-back losses with furion. In these games, I got quite a decent early game, (500+ gpm), ganks, etc.., and took many towers (mostly t1's and t2's).

Late-game came, no biggie, I let my teammates do some fighting while I hit some towers and got the t3's down. We were still steamrolling the enemy team.

However, (I know I shouldnt be saying this) my teammates made the poor choice of not knowing when to back off at the enemy base while they made a futile effort for an end-game push, and just died in droves. There was the last t4 left standing, and I was convinced that I could just rat it down as usual.

But, being supersuper late game, the 5-core teams at low mmr were all farmed up and they stationed one guy at the base, leaving me helpless and unable to rat. They pushed mid and took down t2, t3's and t4's in one fell swoop and we lost.

My question: How would you finish off the rat at t4's? I defo couldnt manfight the kunkka that they stationed there, even with my hex and bloodthorn, because he was just too tanky.

Edit: PL buying battle fury didnt help either

Discussion about 'Half-pulls'.

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 04:45 AM PDT

Hi all, I wanted to discuss about the 'half-pulls'. It's my name for pull that I do exactly right time to only pull the ranged creep or ranged+1 melee creep. It can be quite difficult to 'pull off' however.

The logic behind this is often when laned 2vs2 the enemies will aggressively contest my pull especially if I try to do the traditional double pull. If I have extra time I try to stack the pull camp so the 1-2 allied creeps I pull to jungle will die very quickly. Personally I find this to be efficient strategy and it nicely pulls the equilibrium back + I rarely see my carry letting the enemy wave under our tower with the half pull like happens with normal pull.

I almost exclusively aim to do half-pulls nowadays, unless the lane is pushed out really far. Are any of you doing this or have opinions on this?

Legend 4, want to learn to play Broodmother

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 10:23 PM PDT

I get the theory behind it, I think, win the lane, if you can't, farm the neutral camps on both sides. Get fat quick and push into rax.

What I'm not so keen on is microing the spiderlings. How do I do it? Is this question stupid? Can a brood spammer help me out?

What options do you use to control-group, like hotkeys, which groups do you control, how do you play around controlling your hero, your spiderlings, and all of them together - like when do you make the spiders do what alone, what is your hero doing meanwhile, and so on.

I've tried looking at better players, but it's hard to understand because you can't see these things in a replay, only their results.

When you browse heroes in the game, there is a complexity rating from 1-3 stars for each hero. I am pretty much familiar with all the 1 star heroes. When would you suggest I try out 3 star heroes like Storm Spirit, Earth Spirit, Brewmaster and others? I have played 180 games.

How does ranking up work in dota

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 01:29 AM PDT

So the thing I've been currious about is how does ranking up work exactly. It's different from every other game that doesn't use mmr. Lol uses lp where you get 100lp and then you play promo games and if you win, you get promoted. Same happens in smite, overwatch, and paladins. In csgo, I have no clue. Everything is hidden. I actually ranked up today. Whenever I hear different victory music, I instantly know I ranked up. We still have mmr. I've seen archons in games with herralds and guardians. The thing is it's max skill. I looked at my mmr and it was pretty bad still. I was herrald 2 which is 170 mmr but now I'm herrald 3 which is 340.i have only half of that. What exactly determines when you rank up.
