Here's some road spaghetti that Ashurbanipal cooked for me. It might not the best, but it's still warm.

TIL: The "God Of War" pantheon gives you faith from kills within 10 tiles of ANY Holy Site, not just your own

Just found this out today, as Germany forward settled me and started attacking before I had a Holy Site up. My opinion on this pantheon just changed drastically.

Do you roleplay while playing Civilization?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:21 PM PDT

Do you people always play aiming for the victory or do you roleplay?

I'm obviously not talking about a full on RPG kinda of roleplay, but something along the lines of having a moral code, a objective you created, follow a political ideology and stuff like that.

I personally like to follow a somehow consistent type of politics, sometimes a crazy ass conqueror who just want fuck everyone up, sometimes a diplomatic pacifist who uses military only as last resource, or a pragmatic dude who will do and ally to anyone for the good of the nation.

Dunno. Most of the times it doesn't even intervain much in the game, but is cool to see and imagine that world story evolving through time, rather than just playing for the victory screen.

England settles a promising colony on the North Pole in 600 BC

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 04:16 PM PDT

This is hard for me, but I have a problem and need help. I’m addicted to Poland.

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 02:45 PM PDT

It took me a long time to come to terms with this, but it's starting to have a very serious impact on my life. My friends and family have noticed – shit, everybody has noticed – but I've just been in plain denial for far too long now.

"Hey, Ted_E_Bear. I think you need to calm down a little bit playing with Poland. Seriously, it's all you ever do now."

I've tried giving other Civs a shot, but reaching new eras without getting new policies gives me instant withdrawal symptoms that feel like death. All that work towards research, and for what? Who cares about reaching a new Era if there's nothing to show for it?

And then I look at standard stables and think, "What's the point? In fact, what's the point of building any of this other shit?" Soon enough, I start questioning the point of life itself and depression starts to kick in.

I can usually fight through the depression for a while, but once I get into the Renaissance Era (three policies behind, mind you), the pain and agony really starts to set in. I have to keep telling myself, "One turn at a time. Just do it one turn at a time. If I can make it through this era just one turn at a time, everything will be alright in the end."

But then I research Metallurgy…

"A Lancer? WTF am I supposed to do with this shit? These are worse than those piece of shit cars that Mitsubishi used to make. And didn't Karen used to drive a Lancer? Man. Fuck Karen."

At this point, I always just fall apart. I'll usually throw my mouse against the wall, slam my laptop shut, and try to cry myself to sleep.

But I can't sleep. I can't sleep knowing that Poland still exists and how easy it is to just go back to that way of life.

Sometimes I'll just go to my list of saved games and just look at them for hours without even opening them. I'll sit there and think about all the good times we've had. "Me and Elizabeth vs. The World. Don't worry Liz… I was never going to turn my back on you."

But I can't just keep doing the same thing over and over again. I need to move on. "Maybe just one more turn?" I've tried that. And one turns into ten. Ten turns into 100. It's just a vicious cycle that can't be stopped once it starts. It's true what they say: "One is too many, and a thousand is never enough."

So please, I need some help… Can anybody recommend a new Civ to play with?

What's a mechanic you didn't understand for a while, then felt dumb when you learned it?

Personally, playing V, it took me longer than I'm comfortable admitting to realize I could build Pagodas, Mosques, etc if my city converted to a religion that used them.

New Civilization Ideas for Civ 6

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:45 PM PDT

With Rise and Fall a few months back and with thoughts turning towards whatever expansion Firaxis throws our way next, I was thinking of what new Civilizations they might throw our way. I personally hope to see my old favorite Sweden again, and maybe the Mali empire if I can dare to dream. But what civs or leaders do you wanna see in the next expansion? And what would you like to see from each one?

Fellow multi-monitor users, how do you deal with CIV VI?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 03:17 PM PDT

I very much want to have Civ in fullscreen on one monitor, while I can seamlessly browse reddit consult online documentation on the other It's unfortunately not going too well. Every time I click away from Civ the thing blacks out several times and does the same thing when I click back. This is the only game I play that does this... I'm wondering if there is some setting I should change to make this work.

Off Topic: Commuting Laptop that can run Civ6?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 09:42 AM PDT

This is COMPLETELY off topic, but the peeps at suggest a laptop have not been helpful in the past. I'd like to get a laptop that can run Civ6 or Xcom2 and some other games (even at low graphics) and be light/small enough to commute. I'm facing a 35min or so train commute these days, and would like to do some work or have a game or two available to me. So I don't think tablets would work, and neither would chromebooks? Tablet would be great, because of internet - but I suppose I could tether if I really need to answer an email on the laptop vs. phone. Do i need the dedicated GPU, or can this run on the Intel integrated graphics chip? Thinking of plane travel as well. My current laptop is great, but it's just too heavy and big for commuting.

Suggestions? TLDR: I need a small commuting laptop that can run games like Civ6/Xcom2. Thanks.
