Factorio Finally, a mobile game I can get behind

Finally, a mobile game I can get behind

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 11:35 AM PDT

Oh god, I actually had a dream/nightmare about Factorio last night

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 01:55 AM PDT

I couldn't sort out a mess of yellow and red belts to load a train (why was there a mixture?!), they kept rotating wrongly and mixing their items with the other belts. Some of them were corner pieces even though they were only 1 tile/belt. I got quite distressed. My girlfriend woke me up because I was twitching loads and making frustrated noises. She asked me what I was dreaming about, and, embarrassed, I told her I was being chased by a huge dog.

can someone explain why tiny portable solar pannels that you put on your back need 5 huge ones?

like why i dont understand you dont get 5x the power or anything im confused

Artillery Turrets should have better range than Artillery Wagons.

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 12:39 PM PDT

The added complexity of supplying artillery turrets vs. artillery wagons should be compensated by better range.

Especially since the most effective means of transporting artillery shells is with the artillery wagon anyway, which often makes the artillery turret redundant.

Tip: if you set up your front line gun turrets to use wooden boxes and inserters for loading ammo then you don't have to worry about losing an entire stack of expensive ammo if some spitters get lucky and destroy one.

It's useful even early game when the risk of losing that 800+ iron can have such a huge impact. Late game when you have blueprints and construction chests it becomes really easy to quickly slap down multiple turrets fed by one chest and you can make much cheaper and riskier expansions without having to worry about massively overbuilding your defenses everywhere.

Or you could just use lasers, but what's the fun in that?

After 108 hours in this game... it's not about building a rocket.

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 07:07 PM PDT

What the fuck is a rocket? I've never seen one, never tried to build one. This is my third base and so far my best. I've put about fifty hours into it. I work slow and make mistakes and beer breaks, so it has taken awhile...

Base

Map

This game isn't about rockets, it's a circuit-building simulator. A crisis circuit-building simulator. My reds are running out. My greens aren't enough to support more reds. I've got to start moving a train system into this base, and that's only something I've done to say "wooo I'm riding a train!" not actually produce shit.

Some days I come home from a job of solving other people's problems and just turn on Factorio and stare at it. I did this. Other days I freak out about my fucking circuit production.

Seablock update 80 hours in

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 08:18 AM PDT

This is a follow up post about 40 hours later from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/9ap2ux/first_seablock_runthrough_32_hours_in/

I followed a lot of the suggestions, like adding geode washing and moving from algae to trees for cellulose production.

Here's what my map looks like now: https://imgur.com/a/lp3E8xZ

Blue and military science is automated, and I'm cranking through the researches. I recently redesigned the smelting area, but I think I made a big mistake by having dedicated crystallizers for each ore area. In the future I'll probably have trains deliver the crushed ore to each separate ore facility.

Beyond that I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Robots are next probably. Any thoughts or criticisms from other seablockers would be helpful.

Giving Seablock another try about 4 hours into it.

Bob's + Angels + 5Dims together

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 12:57 PM PDT

Hey,

is it a good idea to play with all Bob's, Angels and 5dims mods in one game? Can you play all this mods together without problems?

Building through biters? [Peaceful Mode]

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 01:16 PM PDT

Until recently, I thought Peaceful Mode worked like this: Biters don't respond to pollution. But if you get near them, they'll attack. As you might imagine, I never really tested this theory since I wouldn't go near Biters until I wanted to clear them out.

Just the other day I learned that Peaceful Mode actually means that biters basically won't attack you or your buildings unless you attack them first! Which, in retrospect, is what the tooltip says...

Once I learned that, I've just been building right through and around these big biter colonies, because I'm playing Bob's/Angel's and I don't have combat robots yet. I had these structures for several hours, and all of a sudden one biter ate like..four belts and a splitter. I was miles away at the time. I have no turrets.

So my two questions: Any idea why that biter attacked my stuff? And more generally, do you folks have experience building right through biter bases? How committed have you gotten with it?

Resources running low, surrounded on all sides, biters got all my friends... and now they're after me

200h in Factorio. 60 of these in this map. And here it is finally a rocket :) well nearly

A question about "infinite resources" for Bob's/Angel's mods

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 02:53 PM PDT

So I decided to give Bob's and Angel's mods a go... and as you'd expect, I'm instantly hooked. One thing that I love in games like this is creating resources for free - naturally, the first thing I did was brute force my way to 15 or so Greenhouses so the whole factory's running off of wood power. Now, I'm starting to wonder if you can get materials for free:

  • Seafloor Pump produces Viscous Mud water, which you can turn to Heavy Mud water (and recycle the mud backwards)

  • You can then wash that water for Geodes

  • Those Geodes + Sulfuric Acid make Crystal Slurry

  • Mineralized Water can be made with Crushed Stone (of which I've got about 3 Silos full of the stuff)

  • Mineralized Water + Crystal Slurry + Ceramic Filter will make Mineral Sludge (and other recyclable byproducts)

  • This Mineral Sludge can be turned into various ores - so, free resources!

However, the one step that I can't seem to renewably make is Sulfuric Acid. While you get some Sulfuric Waste Water which can be turned into Sulfur, which you can combine with Oxygen (from an Air Filter) and Purified Water to make Sulfuric Acid, it doesn't seem like enough to make the process renewable. Acid seems like it can only be gotten through Sulfur Dioxide (or the aforementioned Sulfur + Oxygen process), which is generally a byproduct of refining ores.

Is there a way to get Sulfuric Acid that's renewable? I'm using all of Bob's and Angel's mods (except the biter-related ones).

I was working on a drawing for processing unit production when I realized I somehow need to out 82 circuits per second on a belt. Is the best solution to just split this into several pieces?

Fuel Full Rail Condition

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 08:07 PM PDT

For the rail based mega-base that me and my friend are building, we are using refueling stations every so often that the trains go to to refuel. Right now we have all the trains set to wait for inactivity, but it would seem like having an option for the locomotive fuel to be full would be useful. Thoughts?

Productive Bastard

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 07:35 PM PDT

Has anyone actually done the "Productive Bastard" playthrough (what im deciding to call the opposite of lazy bastard - ie handcrafting everything that can be)?

I decided to give it a go and after about 10 hours playtime im about 20-25% through the research, but of course that will slow significantly with higher tier science packs, then the construction of the rocket on top of that.

Note, i am including mining in the realm of handcrafting, so while the game is vanilla only, I have installed a little macro to change my right click into a toggle rather than click and hold, so near-constant hand mining doesnt give me some kind of RSI. I have used well over a hundred axes so far. Im also disallowing the use of inserters. Send help.

If this hasnt been done before, i will post a timelapse when its done, otherwise I wont bother.

Edit:

When I say 20-25% through research, I am doing only absolutely necessary research, plus fluid handling, because while it probably can be done, im not going to figure out oil ratios for such a stupid base.

For those interested, ill make another post with my reduced tech tree, because im on mobile rn and cant figure out how to edit in an image to a post.

Main bus question.

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 06:56 AM PDT

I'm still newish, just automated blue science on first factory after playing through the campaign.

I understand the idea of a main bus but have a few questions as to the best approach with it.

Do you main bus raw materials (coal, copper, iron)? I set it up that way but now wish that I had setup a main bus of copper and iron plates. Is there a Best way to do that?

When pulling items from the main bus (I have a 3 wide one) I'm using one of the designs are is in the wiki, but do you use a splitter when taking materials off it or do you just take one of the lanes of the bus and dedicate it to that production field?

Belt upgrader mod... abandoned?

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 04:56 PM PDT

Found this and was delighted.

Installed it, and while it seemed to upgrade inserters for a while... it doesn't upgrade belts.

Is there a bug I haven't seen reported?

Or has the author abandoned it?

And... is there another mod that does do this 'automatically'?
