Gimme your silliest, cheapest, cheesiest ways to play the game unfairly. (Civ VI R+F, specifically)

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 06:48 PM PDT

Hey all. I'm at a very boring job for the next couple of weeks, which also coincides with a diet that cuts out most of the simple pleasures of life (sugar, alcohol, nachos). I'm getting through both of these in part through playing a couple hours of civ most nights.

But since this is mostly to blow off steam and give me something to daydream about while I'm at work, I'm not looking to learn to master the game on Deity or anything like that. I'm looking for ridiculous, silly-ass cheapness. Next to cheating. The dumbest ways I can set up a game to get out of hand.

I won't drop the difficulty below Prince, but beyond that, I'm open to anything. Any and all tweaks. Gitarja on tiny islands with abundant resources? Sounds great, but I want even sillier and stupider. Whatcha got?

Mods that extend Eras without lengthening build times?

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 09:03 AM PDT

I'm looking for a mod, either for Civ 5 or 6, that makes each era much longer but keeps Unit and Building build times relatively low.

The vanilla game seems to have build times synced with era times, so I can never truly enjoy an era before my units become outdated and my technology advances.

For example, I'd like to unlock Archery then be able to possibly carry out a whole war before unlocking the next technology. In vanilla, in the time it takes to build 6 archers the next tech is already open and my fighters are outdated.

Does a mod like this exist?

Couldn't Find An Up-To-Date Post; What is currently better, CIV V or CIV VI?

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 07:12 PM PDT

As the title specifies I have played civ 5 on an old PC (I will have to re-purchase if i want to play again),

I racked up quite a few hours and I love the game, however as I want to get back into the genre I'm not sure which game to purchase, I remember as launch there were a lot of complaints about civ 6, but now it's been quite a while since release,

is the game now better than civ 5 through patching and optimization as some suggested? Or am I better off still playing civ 5?

(CIV6) Only one deity win - Need to improve

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 09:36 AM PDT

I have enjoyed CIV since 5 but I was not a particularly good player.

I start all my games default (small, continents, random civ), changing nothing but the difficulty to max.

I won my first game on deity a while back with Germany. It was a science victory, which became cutthroat near endgame with the top contender. I found myself needing every single spy operation to slow down their space race projects, winning only by a turn or 2.

At that time I didn't even know how the citizen mechanics worked and thought I needed to improve every tile in my civ ASAP.

I want to get to where I win most of my games, but I am constantly getting my ass kicked.

What are some general tips or necessary strats for playing on deity? I find myself constantly lacking in multiple fields (whether it be culture, science, etc depending on what I'm focusing on) and my cities have a pretty low pop all game.

I literally starting using reddit today for this game. This is my first post ever.

Best Legacy Cards?

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 07:33 AM PDT

I used to go with Autocracy but I've been a bit dissatisfied with it recently, mostly because I usually don't spend much time producing government buildings and the bonuses aren't as good late game. I usually go with Merchant Republic for tier 2, and I like the Fascism bonus. What do you guys think?

Fast tracking techs ruins the game for me

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 07:06 AM PDT

The ability to fast track techs and civics just completely ruins the immersion for me. When people (including myself) are reaching the atomic era techs by the 1600's it just makes no sense.

After just finishing our third game with AI and friends, I feel like every game is just a race to get to that one tech that gives your victory condition a boost. It feels so game like compared to civ 5 where you feel like your civ is actually progressing through time in a (mostly) realistic way.

Don't get me wrong I think it's a great game but I feel like this is something that needs to be fixed to make it as enjoyable as previous CIVs.

I learned something yesterday while playing Civ V

Posted: 05 Sep 2018 10:35 PM PDT

I really had a problem with conquering cities because i always needed a lot of artillery as it was always targeted first and i just couldn't believe the AI would be that smart so i did a small test.

Instead of putting my infantry, which was in the first line, on guard mode, i just order them to do nothing. Turns out the AI is just as stupid as i expected and stopped shooting my artillery and started shooting my front line infantry.

I only tried this 2 times so it might not really be accurate, can someone with more experience confirm this is a thing? This was on King difficulty by the way.

Civ 5 1v1

Anyone want to play hybrid multiplayer against me in civ 5 bnw today. Only rule is no Austria. I'm probably an average player, can consistently win on king but it's a challenge and anything over that is too hard to be fun for me. DM!

V - protecting against religion/GPs?

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 05:47 AM PDT

I'm playing with a single city and have tithe and the +1% production per follower in my religion tenets, and Egypt keeps bringing in GPs which convert my entire city at once, which is really annoying. Is there a way to prevent them from doing this outside of parking units around my entire city? I'm not aiming to spread my religion much, but I'd like it if they didn't have a way to keep doing that. I keep needing to make GPs just to convert my city back.

What are other ways to protect my religion?

Thanks!
