Tried 19's 'naked' mode. Here's what happened. Posted: 30 Aug 2018 05:23 PM PDT For my first 19 effort, I tried the 'naked' mode with the save-on-exit permadeath. It was fun, but really, really short. My lone colonist lands (in her birthday suit) and I go to my normal RW strategy which is to find a suitable area and setup a small room and stockpile. But I forgot food. I spent all day getting healroot and wood and noticed my pawn is 'ravenously hungry'. She slept starving but the next day I had her harvest a ton of berries. I then realized she needed clothes, as it was one of the many negative-nancy notifications on my screen. Cotton would take too long so I figured I'd have her hunt. Whoops, can't make a bow; level is too low. The bed is next to a steel wall, so she can make a dagger. It's awful. Crap. At least now she's armed. Hey it's like 3pm let's get it done. Found a squirrel, destroyed it with my nasty knife. Saw a turtle, feeling confident, attacked the turtle. Whoops. Crap. So the turtles 'beak' is really brutal and slashed her arms a bit, but she did manage to kill it. I'll have her use healroot and be done with it. Oh wait, she's super-sleepy at this point and actively REFUSES to take her medicine before going to sleep. Like, she wanted her brief stay to be over. So she slept and bleed to death. I waited about a day in-game time to get a new colonist, and no-one came except some visitors that didn't mind the body. So dreary, so glorious. [link] [comments] |
Played Naked Brutality for the first time on permadeath, and now my wife thinks I'm insane Posted: 31 Aug 2018 12:34 AM PDT So, played naked brutality for the first time, I was LOVING it. I thought, hey I'm a pretty decent player, I can DO THIS. It was going quite well at first, had a nice house, workshop, some decent crops going. As the naked explorer was working in the garden, apparently a naughty squirrel was watching and a-liked what he saw. This man-nut-hunting squirrel just went OFF. Taken by surprise with his pants down, unarmed, my naked explorer hid quivering behind a door, as his nuts are NOT for sale. Quickly whipped up a shiv on a makeshift crafting spot, the whole time this squirrel yelled racist comments across the door, "Imma coming for your nuts WHITEY". Uh uh - Well we can't have racist squirrels in OUR TOWN. Decided to wing it, and went for the squirrel. After a naked brawl with the squirrel, somehow the explorer won, but bleeding badly. While patching up from a nasty bite to the crotch with some healroot we found next to the house, a naked raider decides to join the fun, and attacks with a wooden shiv. It's mano-a-mano, both naked, they go at each-others throats. But somehow - somehow, the raider instead decides to go again for the nuts, which are already sore, and my traveler knocks out and starts flailing on the floor "help me, someone pick me up!" he cries. The naked raider, not missing a beat, says: "don't mind if I do", and just picks up the naked traveler, swings him over his shoulder and marches slowly off the map. I follow him with incredulity as he slowly makes his way and just disappears. I consider save scumming - but no - I remember, this is permadeath. This is REAL. This is HAPPENING. I just sit there stunned. My entire game-play just - ended so abruptly, just when I was getting SO SMUG about how I'm awesome at this game. Then I start laughing. Laughing and laughing, smacking the table with my palm. Oh, the humanity of it - it was just too much. And then my wife walks in and asks me why I'm laughing. I could hardly explain to her just how messed up this game is. Tried though. Came off badly, obviously (see r/ShitRimworldSays). She told me I'm insane. I love it. Never change Rimworld. TL;DR, played naked brutality for the first time, laughed myself silly at the outcome. Now my wife thinks I'm insane. [link] [comments] |

Does anyone else think there should be musical instruments? Posted: 30 Aug 2018 11:49 AM PDT It seems strange how nobody in the Rimworlds have ever heard of music before, just imagine how boring life would be living in a colony! I think there should be some instruments in game, which produce music and increase joy and recreation for those around. I don't know if it should be an actual job or recreation, though I think there defiantly should be a musical skill if instruments are added, with higher skill resulting in more good performances (bad ones would lower joy). I'm thinking of keeping it simple. Piano, violin, guitar, trumpet, each with different effects. What do y'all think? [link] [comments] |

A wonderfully "Rimworld" way to end a colony.. Posted: 30 Aug 2018 06:43 AM PDT So I was streaming a colony for quite some time that was relatively peaceful and boring..a tribal start that was comfortable, but relatively static. We'd stabilized and were just sort of going through the rounds.. Then I cranked it up to Randy Random, on rough. No big deal, right? Wrong. In my foolishness, I'd undertaken a caravan quest to obtain some valuable items..the only defense being a manhunter pack of raccoons. My first mistake was assuming my colonists armed with shotguns and bolt action rifles could take down 7 small animals. We lost all three colonists that embarked on that raid. Some time later, I accept a fleeing colonist that was being chased by raiders. Naturally, having just built some turrets and having improved my defenses, I was cocky and ready to defend myself. Of course, the turrets almost instantly explode, and the death count from the raid totaled 6 of my 13 colonists. I'm down to 7 at this point. We managed to kidnap two of the downed raiders. I lose another colonist to disease, and another decides to leave the colony in the post-raid depression. Amazingly, we stabilize. The colony is cleaned up, defenses are rebuilt, food is replenished, and wounds heal. The three prisoners join up with us. We then get a call about an imprisoned colonist nearby! Guarded by two turrets, a mortar, and two humans. I send in the prisoner squad.. Upon arrival, it seems easy enough. I begin sniping the human manning the mortar while the other two get into position. I'm charged by a steel spear wielding shielded melee dude. He goes down, but not without killing one and injuring the other..my sniper takes out the other human, leaving me to deal with the turrets. Of course, the two living colonists are both completely incapable of doctoring..convenient. The injured colonist dies, leaving me with just my sniper. He struggles to disable the enemy outpost, while our prisoner just lays around waiting. Figuring I had all the time in the world, I plinked away. Nope. Colonist goes into a temper tantrum over a desperate lack of Hoopstone and Ur games, and proceeds to take his anger out on the turret. Ignoring the gunfire peppering him, he bashes the turret until that familiar 'hiss' is heard..it's the last thing I hear before the screen cuts away to the world map. Mission failed. At this point the colony is just sorta cruising along. A psychic ship lands. No big deal. I poke the nest, so to speak, with a passing colonist- this was a big mistake. Three lancers and a fatty bust out and charge lance/incinerate him to bits. I send in my remaining forces as a last stand. One goes beserk and wanders off before the fight begins. Five on four. All five colonists go down, various limbs chopped off from lance shots. I'm left with a single colonist throwing a tantrum. I'm tempted to abandon the colony..but I don't. My last colonist, Engie, calms down. He has a good meal and a nap before his death march. I equip him with the best gun I have and get ready.. SUDDENLY COBRAS! That's right. A manhunter pack of cobras busts in out of nowhere..and goes instantly for the mechanoids. I laugh. This should be fun.. One scyther goes down to their fangs. Then a second. Then a third. The centipede is heavily injured before finally laying the snakes to rest. I'm in awe. The colony lives on! I send out Engie- slowly, with the help of an old camel, I kite the centipede around until it lays in a crumpled heap. I've survived! Somehow. The next few days are spent in quiet solitude, eating, cleaning, and rebuilding. A prisoner comes by, fleeing from a raid. I say 'screw it'. There's only 4 of them. I invite the raid in, and we fend it off. Both colonists are injured. Foozie, as he was named, lays in the hospital. Engie goes to tend him. The raid siren goes off. Fuck. I'm down to one injured colonist against seven pirates. He manages to bring down two before he's finally downed. But wait! THE MYSTERIOUS MAN IN BLACK appears! ..with 0 shooting skill, extreme neurosis, and depression. He limps into my base, pistol whips the guy trying to kidnap Engie, and then murders another. They flee. Once more, my colony hangs on by a thread. However, it's been lit on fire in the assault. This man in black, named Sea Lion desperately attempts to put out the fire. He mostly succeeds..until depression hits. He wanders in a sad daze through the burning colony. Both my downed colonists, having not received medical attention, die of blood loss and flames. Sea Lion doesn't care. Eventually the base burns half to a crisp, and Sea Lion comes back to his normal self. I disband the colony there. I assume Sea Lion wandered off into the night, depressed and paranoid. The End. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 07:17 AM PDT is it just me or since the B19 update every colonist crashed on the rim with his parents, nephew, aunt, and mother in law ? It was fun at first to rescue one of my colonist father, or to see someone ex-wife attacking us with the pirates, but I don't see them as poor survivors on a desolate planet they want to leave now, it seems they've always lived here with so many family members on the planet.. Love the update except for this edit : https://imgur.com/5wnvgsU [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Aug 2018 10:53 AM PDT So, I was feeling adventurous and decided to start a new playthrough with Randy Merciless Naked Brutality, permadeath mode, just to see how long can I survive. Kent, my colonist was capable of everything but not really good with anything. Settled next to a rich soil part and built a small shelter. Things were going good for a few days, living on small animals and building basic things. Then a rescue opportunity warning... It was Maggie the wife of Kent sending a message to help her. The place wasnt too far, maybe 2 days on foot, so i decided to try and save her. Hunted some food, made a few meals and left i knew these were rot eventually but I had enough food to last 4 days. As I only had 3 more days to save her I had to hurry. Eventually he made it there and armed with a bow and arrow i have prepared to face .... two turrets and a minigun wielding pirate... Oh well I tought, this is it I have to try this. So Kent got to cover and started shooting the pirate with arrows. The answer was the bullet shower from the minigun. My ass clenched watching and waiting for the inevitable happen. By some miracle Kent was only hit once and the pirate lay downed and bleeding out. But the two turrets still remained. I knew that he could probably run past one of them to save his beloved, who was staggeringly ugly by the way, but he loved her personality because he also had his flaws, like his creepy breathing... Armed with a minigun he ran past one of the turrets getting another bullet, this time blinding him to his right eye. As Maggie was now "saved" i have placed down a spot for Kent to lay down to be treated by Maggie. After treating him, and as I have just realised, -the minigun has a longer range as the turret- destroying the last defense, reformed the caravan and left for home. After barely making it home with food (looted from the pirate) they settled in. Everything was great until 2 days later when Maggie decided that she cant take Kent anymore and divorced him on the spot. Kent was driven into a rage and ... attacked the closest bughive in the caves with his bare hands. To disasterous results of course. As he lay there dying a raid came and beat Maggie into a pulp and took her. Welcome to the Rim... [link] [comments] |
