Successful Japan Trip!

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 06:54 AM PDT

Came to Japan hoping to get the Special Weekend Codes. Due to the language barrier and other issues I wasn't able to. Desperate for Unowns I asked around on the Silph Road Discord. Met up with a guy and traded a Tauros for Unown J. A few days later in Osaka, I approached someone I was raiding with and said "Toredo" (trade in Japanese) and showed him my Tauros. He traded me a Unown A. Earlier today, I saw a guy approach a raid and said "Toredo" and showed him my Tauros. I got a lucky Unown M. Even though they both spoke minimal English, I could sense their excitement when they received their Tauros.

To those that are visiting Japan, don't be afraid to approach people. Just show them your regional and let the game do the talking.

Special thanks to u/Hyrumoo for the original post on TSR! :D https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/93sjdu/spinda_available_from_land_3_curveballs_in_a_row/

So far, it seems that the 8th form of Spinda is the only form currently available. Will update this post if there are any changes. Meanwhile, it's time to go spin-da balls. :)

I thought it was dead!

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 05:16 PM PDT

I'm sitting with my girlfriend at a gym in our town, actually 2, right on top of each other.

After about 10 minutes more and more people start showing up (there is no raid).

So now we're sitting here all playing PoGo, there were people from every team and we were flipping the 2 gyms back and fourth for over an hour, talking BSing and showing off pokemon in the gyms once we took them from each other.

Long story short, I had a fun time with random people from my town..

To the 2 guys in Smithtown I just played with, see you soon!

[Story] A cute encounter

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 08:17 AM PDT

Going through a local town, I saw an Exeggutor raid. My husband is always short on dust, so I stopped there and decided to use my pass and his. (I had his phone with me.) There were two accounts already in the lobby, a level 15 and a level 16.

I look and see two kids, probably around 11yo, sitting on the ground near the swings. I join the lobby with my account and the kids suddenly start pointing at their phones and whispering, looking up at me and then at their phones. "She's level 40!" Then I add my husband's account and their eyes bug out. "She's got TWO level 40 accounts!" I smiled and told them that one was my husband's account, the raid starts, and I wish them luck and walk off.

The look on their faces was priceless, both times I added.

For the love of god, Niantic, Please fix the issues with Friends List scrolling

Posted: 31 Jul 2018 11:38 PM PDT

Managing friendship is a pretty important part of the game right now. With the limits that are imposed, it already takes a significant amount of effort to ensure you get maximum friend rewards. Can you please make scrolling in the friends list work the same way as scrolling in the pokemon list?

Things that should be fixed: 1) When you open a gift, it should not scroll you all the way back to the top. 2) Scrolling should work just as fluid as it does on the pokemon list. Don't make us drag multiple times to load the next page.

There is no reason that scrolling in the friends should be any different from an implementation perspective than how scrolling works in the pokemon list. I get that some of these might be considered design choices to limit data transfer, etc, but given that you only allow 200 friends to be added, this list is smaller than many of the other lists which work way better than this.

And yes, we've been here once before: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/7lft01/niantichelp_were_aware_of_the_bug_which_causes/

[Edit] Clearly, this was posted in the middle of my daily gift opening spree :)

[Edit 2] Collecting some additional good suggestions from comments in-line. Some of these have been posted before.

  • Show friends who need to be sent a gift at the top (sorting)
  • Friend search feature
  • Open all gifts button/send all gifts to friends needing them
  • Checkbox in the friends list that shows whether you've opened a gift from someone already today.
  • Even better, a checkbox in the friends list that shows whether friend increase has happened or not from any reason (trade, battle, gift opened, etc).
  • Increase maximum number of gifts in inventory, the limit of 10 results in more tedious management of sending gifts

[Complaint] We need more Pokémon Storage Space NOW. Yes, even more than 2,000.

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 05:54 PM PDT

Between legendaries, unique event Pokemon, high IV Pokémon, legacy Pokémon, legions of trash collected from faraway lands/vacations for trading, Lucky Pokémon, and SHINIES...yeah, we need more. We needed more a few months ago.

It hurts nobody to increase maximum storage to 2,500 or 3,000. Arguably, it doesn't damage the game at all to cap it much higher. If your playstyle doesn't need it, then don't buy it. I, on the other hand, would welcome the opportunity to give Niantic my money. Would they refuse? If so...why??

I don't make Poke-gender a big deal. That said, there are trainers in my community who keep a 'gender Dex', meaning they store one of each Pokémon male and female for breeding, if and when it drops. You might laugh now, but these are the same players who crushed it when Luckies dropped, since they'd been hoarding stuff since 2016 "just in case".

The hardcore gym rats? They've hoarded scores of Snorlaxes, Blisseys, and other defending Pokémon.

Hardcore raiders? 20-30 legendaries on a day off work isn't unheard of, and who wants to stop the train just to sort through your junk legendaries, especially when they cannot be mass-transferred?

These may be some more 'dedicated' or 'hardcore' niche playstyles, but they exist and they bring in a ton of money for Niantic. I'm genuinely curious why Niantic hasn't added more storage space, despite claims that it would.

[Random Achievement] Level 40 with no Item/Pokemon Storage Upgrades

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 09:44 AM PDT

https://reddit.com/link/93qmre/video/46k1jadhfid11/player

Hi everyone!

I decided to post this here before I upgrade my bag space and never look back.

The reason I chose not to increase items/poke storage is because I wanted this to be a personal challenge while playing the game. I've had to let go of many Pokemon and tighten my 'absolutely necessary' Pokemon criteria. Keeping the items at the minimum bag space wasn't too bad, since I live in a city area with plenty of resources. The Pokemon storage management was by far the most difficult thing (loathed and loved seeing upcoming community days)

For reference, these are the Pokemon I chose to absolutely keep:

  • Mewtwo (~10)
  • High IV meta-relevant legendary (Raikou/Moltres/Entei/Zapdos/Ray, about 15 combined)
  • Boosted legendary (Mainly Groudon and Ho-Ohs, about 12 total)
  • Shiny (~40)
  • Perfects (~40)
  • Meta-relevant attackers (12x Ttar,6 Machamps, etc.)
  • Gen 4 evolution Pokemon with High IVs

Lastly, the biggest XP detriment was definitely being unable to horde Pidgey/Rats/etc. for mass evolutions. It would get to points where I would literally fast-catch and evolve anything I had during those precious 2x XP events...

This was definitely a fun and strategic challenge for me that I'm quite proud of :)

AR+ is my new favorite feature

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 11:13 AM PDT

I know AR+ been out for a while, but it's my new favorite part of the game. My local group has started a scavenger hunt with different tasks to do in order to get hints to find a hidden Pokemon plush, and one of the recent ones was taking AR pictures of Pokemon in a natural habitat of theirs. Here is an album of some of my favorites

Collectors need more Pokemon Storage before Eevee Community days

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 09:20 AM PDT

This post is dedicated only to the players that like collect pokemon. I think that without more Pokemon Storage (now the limit is 1500) the Eevee Community days will be a disaster. Do you think the same? I'll send a report to the Niantic about this.

Amazing catching day!!

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 10:04 AM PDT

Okay so I don't know who else to tell because I only have one friend who I play Pokemon GO with and he's still asleep, and I just needed to nerd out for a second!! Okay so my buddy and I have been trying to lose some weight so we started hiking a local mountain, now this mountain has a few PokeStops and a couple of Gyms (I always play going up since we started doing our hikes but most of the time it's just your generic Swablu and Aron nest, good place to hatch eggs though), but unlike any day today I kept getting Bulbasaurs and Clefairys! (They used to be very common in Gen 1 but disappeared as soon as the other gens started coming out) well so I was able to catch enough to evolve them completely and on top of that I was able to actually catch one of each with maxed out CP and Perfect IV's! I also found enough Snubbulls to level up and max out my Granbull, I was able to take down 3 gyms on the way up (the Pokemon in the gyms had almost no CP left so I was able to beat them and put my Pokemon in without having to stop our hike since my buddy refuses to play Pkmn GO) and on the way down the mountain I found a Phanpy (which was the final one I needed to get a Donphan!!) So after our hike was done I decided to go to a local park to see if there were any raid battles, found 2! A Registeel (which had like 10 people ready to take it down) caught that, then there was another raid nearby! (I'm trying to do the mythical quest so that knocked out two of the ten raid battles!) I decided to walk the Park for about a mile and I hatched two eggs that were incubating (One was a Togepi, the other was a Trapinch) and then on the ride back home I drove around my neighborhood and found the last Magikarp I needed for that quest! And I did it all before noon! Now I'm just waiting for that Raikou event in a couple of hours! Today was a good day!

Tdlr; Went on a morning workout, defeated three gyms, caught & evolved a perfect Clefairy and Bulbasaur, caught my last needed Phanpy, caught enough Snubbulls to max out my Granbull, beat two raids, evolved a Magikarp, almost got my Mythical Quest completed, and hatched a Togepi and a Trapinch before noon!

Are we supposed to be OK hatching 7KM Meowth now, for a chance of Shiny Houndour encounter?

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 07:36 PM PDT

So... houndour encounter is the reward for the new "evolve a meowth" quest, I should not have immediately (out of disappointment) transferred 45 alolan meowth hatchings to the professor!!!! SMH......

Still waiting for Niantic to bundle raid passes so we don't have to buy them one at a time

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 01:27 PM PDT

I know you can buy more than one raid pass but sometimes when you know you are going to have session doing raids it would just be nice to hit one button that will allow me to buy 5, 10 or 15 all at once.

Niantic the genie

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 06:43 AM PDT

So I was walking down the streets and I was thinking to myself of all people getting cool shinies but I never had one or caught one. I convinced myself to keep finding more Pokémon's so I can get a shiny myself.I was also exercising so I kept walking. One hour later,I was feeling hopeless and I knew the chance of finding a shiny in the wild is 1/450.After walking back,a wailmer pops up and I was like "I don't want you" I accidentally clicked on it and It was pink. Ok,this was my reaction - "hejJahHgsyzihstsushstysnbsyshwyzgwvjwisgdiwis AHHHHHHHG UESSSHSISYBAJSUSB HAHAHHAHA YES" sorry you had to see that.Tada I present you My first ever shiny!
