Just got back to Ancient spamming pos 4 Oracle

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 07:30 PM PDT

Not a huge achievement (I was Ancient last season, Legend this one). For a long time I was playing mainly pos 5 support but i struggled a lot in this patch.

A little while ago (on Cookies advice) I decided to review a game where I got absolutely dumpstered by a 6.5k smurf pos 4 Skyrath. He really just destroyed our safelane (I was Warlock with Spectre) got his items and snowballed even without farming. The rest of his team was garbage, he just basically won by himself.

Inspired I made the switch to offlane support and have climbed back up to Ancient I (sitting at 4105) first picking Oracle pos 4 every game. My approach has been to bring a ton of regen to lane (2 sets tangos, salve, mango and clarity) and just try to emulate that Sky by dumpstering the safelane. I've also been pretty focused on turning dives in other lanes, as well as ganking once the offlane is won. And I'll be honest that I'm probably "securing" more kills than I used to, but an early Spirit Vessel is incredibly strong. I've really tried to focus on getting my items as I'm able to focus less on warding.

I've found the pos 5 is in a bad spot this patch. He usually has little regen (pooling tangos to mid, Void/wards/sent) and is not in a position to trade. If you can force him to walk to base even once you've basically won the offlane because your offlaner and you should be able to deny a ton of CS from the enemy safelane (I've found pinging to coordinate denies is very good).

This was the match I hit Ancient I in and it's fairly representative of how it's been going since I made the switch. We just destroyed the enemy safelane and the game was a cakewalk.

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4037176940.

I also had a several doozy games in this stretch, 20-2, 19-5 etc as I often was snowballing off kills (not farm). There's certainly been some very fun ones. Had a few throws, a few griefers, and what I'm sure was an account buyer, but generally has been a super fun stretch of dota.

Just thought it might be an interesting discussion for the forum. Cheers!

Edit - did they change the way you do paragraphs???

I need help learning Lycan and understanding which neutral creeps are good in what situations.

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 07:26 PM PDT

Here are some of my questions:

-what is my goal in fights and in lane?

-best uses of ult? Is it worth using it purely for escaping after pushing tower?

-what items to get and when to get them.

-Since Lycan has no armor now is the lvl 10 armor talent worth it? Or should I just get a neutral with hotd that gives me armor and just go for the damage talent?

-Is controlling an enemy siege creep worth killing off your current hotd unit?

-I've seen some pros completely skip treads and some others delay brown boots until after necro necro or something. Why?

These are all the questions I can currently think of. Any extra help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I just lost against Ursa mid. [SF]

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 07:09 AM PDT

hey guys, I just played a game in which the enemy Ursa went mid and it surprised me quite abit as the enemy team had zeus. He had higher damage at lvl 1 and I skilled souls as I thought Zeus would be mid instead. Out of curiosity, who is more favoured in that lane?

As someone who recently picked up SF (~100games) on him, I feel like I was at an disadvantage against him due to lower damage and he made sure to bring loads of regen to deal against my minimal right clicks.

In hindsight, with my 3.5k logic, it seems that he is only able to kill me at lvl 3 the quickest, 1 lvl in q,w,e. So I should have been more aggressive trading with him before he reaches 3? I also realised I went for Aquila first, should I have went for wind lace+boots first to avoid getting caught by him?

I think I was rather surprised by the pick and was too hesitant to face up against him and he eventually snowballed and ended down mid. What could I have done to deal with him in lane? Was it just purely bad plays from me? Any generic SF tips as well? I went for an Euls first item to help kite him and force staff after but I think he had too much of an early power spike for me to deal with i.e blink enrage overpower Vs my razes and Euls.

Was it just a positioning thing? like playing against an Ursa? If he was playing as an safelane core and I was playing smth like a ranged hero like mirana, I would be able to deal with him but being at mid makes me more vulnerable and SF doesn't have any escapes.

TLDR: Lost to Ursa as SF mid. How could I have won? Thanks for helping out guys:)

Ranked medals, slightly confused.

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 12:40 PM PDT

I'm kind of confused at how the medal system works when you rank up much earlier than the MMR point. at first I thought it would just increase as normal but I won a couple games and it didn't increase but after my recent game (still much lower than the MMR the wiki talks tells). Can someone share some insight on how this works?

Meepo: when to take aghs, how many eblade?

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 06:22 PM PDT

I'm a more passive late game player transitioning from Arc Warden into a meepo mid. As a result, I take 4 wraith first then a treads into an eblade before getting my blink. I like being 10 levels ahead before hunting my opponent. After my first eblade / blink I get a hex then 2 more eblade totalling 3.

So to recap, after treads, eblade, hex and blink. How should I fill my remaining 2 slots?

In what situations to get skadi and heart? I was about to get these items then my PA with loads of damage said to get more eblade instead of Tanky items as I need more damage.

In my head I needed to survive more.

What advice do you have ?

Looking for advice on playing P3 (1.5k)

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 07:16 AM PDT

Hi all,

I used to think I'm a P1 (still play it when I queue with a group 3>) But I've been experimenting with playing more of a core position in P3 with pretty decent success. I have been playing a lot of core VS offlane with pretty good success. I've recently taken a liking to Weaver, and CK as well in this position. Been considering lifestealer as well. Just as an FYI i also play axe when the situation calls for it.

I love farming, and having the power to nuke down towers super super fast. Some of the heroes I've listed are good at this as well.

Now my question is, thinking a little outside the box, who are some other good Offlane carry heroes that would be good to put under my belt?

Why is playing Phantom Assassin so easy? [details in text]

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 08:50 AM PDT

I am new to Dota 2 and I started playing a couple of months ago. I have played a total of 80 games. I have yet to be eligible for ranked matches. However, for the past couple of games I picked up Phantom Assassin after being destroyed by her in mid when I played Sniper. I average around 15 kills in a game with her. In my last game, I carried my team to victory with 25 kills. The opposing team had Bristleback who was the only one I couldn't really hurt. My whole team had to take down BB together. Other than that I could easily take all the others like Lina, Queen of Pain, Razor and Viper.

Now, I also play Legion Commander. I struggle to average more than 4-5 kills in a game and even though she is a carry, I still struggle to take my team to victory.

My question, why is Phantom Assassin so easy to play in the first place? Unless the opposing team has heroes like Dragon Knight, Sven or Axe, she is not easily countered. And even if the opposing team has such heroes, they might be only 1-2 such heroes. You can easily rotate so that she won't be countered by them.

Am I missing something and if so, what am I missing?

EDIT: I realized I mentioned only 4 heroes in the opposing team. The 5th hero was Viper.

Spectre Battlefury on VGJ.Yang

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 05:27 PM PDT

So I noticed spectre has a very high winrate, and post people are going the standard Radience build. However occassionally I see battlefury being picked up. For example in this game with VGJ. Yang : https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4033229403?guide=d3e17a

While he did lose, any idea the thought process behind the Bfury pick up?

Replay analysis 3.8 k mid viper

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 01:38 PM PDT

Hello guys im a 3.8 k player im realy upset about losing this game even though i tried my best , in this game i tried to avoid unnecessary fights and focus on shoving waves as many pro players advised like cookies and blitz .

Ive won mid i have shoved the waves but all of a sudden we lost i dont want to blame the life stealer ( even though its running in my head ) But can someone tell me whats my weakness in this game that lead to lose

Should i have focused on shoving waves or team fighting with my advantage because we had the lead , i noticed that when i shove the wave and the enemy react my team didn't take advantage of that , they where juggling or doing some other stuff .

Should i shove waves even if i have a great advantage , or just team fight.

I would appreciate any help from higher mmr players :)

What is the most impactful support?

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 05:24 PM PDT

Hi I've been lately playing the game more seriously and in the new meta low bracket (2k shit MMR) I've been playing lots of warlock and got 87% win rate (like 25-4 something like that) Wanted to ask what other hero is that impactful so I can babysit my carry to the victory?

I played some cm but in the late game she doesn't bring much (or at least I can't) in compare to warlock where I get scepter/refresher+golem on death. As an example if we get half of the team and I refreshed and died I know I get to pull towers and baracks down and even win games by soloing 1v5 (fatal bonds+golem+refresher) and not only get kills but also get ancients down.

What other support/POS 4/5 can do such things?

Any tips on how not to suck at lone druid?

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 01:20 PM PDT

I was recently on a bit of a losing streak (2k) on my main account, so I decided to make an alt and learn to play one complicated hero for the hell of it. I decided on playing Lone Druid, but I was naturally awful for the first time. Any tips or anything on how to play him would be really appreciated. For my hotkeys I have space(select hero) 3 for both bear and druid and 2 for just bear A couple things I noticed from my first game:

  1. I didn't realize that the bear gets disarmed after he gets a certain distance from the bear. It took me like 30 minutes to realize this. However, I could still split push with the radiance and resummon instantly.

  2. I accidentally fed the bear a few times and resummoned stupidly, so I had several minutes in the match without the bear (and with it my midas :(.

  3. I was thinking way too much about the bear micro and mechanics of the abilities that I had shit game sense on that match.

  4. My radiance timing was AWFUL (27 minutes) because I missed cs and died several times, causing me to have a late midas and an even later radiance.

  5. I missed several fears due to not reacting quick enough, which caused myself and many others to die to chaos knight.

Going forward, I'm going to watch some replays and keep trying to learn this hero, even after I go back to ranked on my main. Here was the match where I failed miserably: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4037005749

Thank you!

Which heroes go in which lane?

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 05:04 PM PDT

Does it matter, actually? I've just started playing this game about two days ago and I still don't know if there is a desired role for each hero. A list showing heroes and their best lane would be cool, too

What are the rules to 'Safe to leave'? because so many times teammates leave (even in the first 5 minutes) and it's not.

Did I start joining fights too late as SF?

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 04:53 AM PDT

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4036205767

I think I joined a single fight or two before I had bkb + silver edge. I was doing really well in the laning stage but was still scared that if I joined fights because Zeus and Bristle are scary. However, after I had those items and started joining fights, it seemed like the game was already lost. Anything I could have done better?

How do you deal with AM's split-push?

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 09:48 AM PDT

Just played this game, I was the SF and felt like I did pretty well but every time we tried to push AM was split pushing and taking our towers. Everytime I would tp defend, but my team would keep trying to get the tower and lose the 4v4 or 5v4 if AM tped back. Eventually I got a Scythe, but he had Aghs and my team wasn't cooperative enough to cancel his Aghs so I could hex him.

Help me pick a hero that can disable whole enemy team?

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 09:19 AM PDT

So I'm new to Dota 2. I played League of Legends for 5 years previously, and have played a handful of other MOBAs (including Dota 1 and Heroes of the Storm).

I'm trying to get through my 100 games so I can play ranked and get matched against people my skill level.

Basically every game either 1 of 2 things wipe my team: It's either some carry that got super fed (like Sven or Huskar or Phantom Lancer), and just 1-shots everyone OR it's an enemy hero that AoE disables our whole team.

I want to play the latter. Heroes like Enigma or Magnus, that just stop the whole enemy team from playing the game when they cast their ultimate.

What are my options?

New player here, questions about battle pass

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 06:22 AM PDT

I didnt play dota for long and got the battle pass in order to try it a bit.

Could someone please help me with some questions? thanks in advance

Immortals - do they have any decent value? or is it better to convert them to levels? (obviously these arent highly rare ones)

Predictions - whats your source for picking fantasy teams or predicting battles or which hero will be played the most etc.?

I cannot use pro circuit thingy, it simply doesnt work, anyone has an idea why?

Should I unlock all players cards? any point in this?

What is most valueable for you from all rewards in BP? is there anything really really cool to unlock?

I dont see myself passing over lvl 50 but would love to know what you think

quick question regarding Attributes and Hero stats

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 08:31 AM PDT

For agility heroes, every point in agility Increases attack damage by 1. Increases armor by 0.2. Increases attack speed by 1.25. Increases movement speed by 0.063%.

Why would I want to buy agility items when I can buy Raw stats such as Damange, Armor, Attacks speeds from other items? Look at the ratios 1 point in agility = 1 point in damage, 0.2 in armor etc. Isn't it less cost efficient?
Edit: and what is meant by Damage in Items, Like what does it do? give me more damage on auto-attacks and abilities? thank you

Recently, this offer got more attention than I though. I'd like to extend it to all of you. It's free coaching for a couple people

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 12:17 AM PDT

RivinX 28 points· 17 hours ago

Pick 3 of your favorite heroes. I will do private coaching, all free, with you and write you 3 custom builds to help you. In exchange, i will record it for my twitch. We can discuss absolutely anything you want to, no restrictions.

Unfortunately, the person i extended that offer to hasn't taken me up on it. It's obviously quite a bit of work, so I can't do it for everyone here. That being said when so many upvotes after being buried inside someone elses post, it did seem to be a rather popular idea. As you all know coaching services usually have a price. That's because of the amount of time and effort the coach has to put in to help someone else.

I'd like to offer it to 2 people on here and you can apply in the comments. These would be my preferences for who to teach:

Behavior score: Normal or B. I tried to teach someone recently who started feeding the courier down mid. I refuse to waste my time with someone like this.

Mmr: PREFERABLY 3k or less. If you are anything below 2k, the guides i write you will be very general. I will add a bit of detail at your request. If you are above 3k, i assume you have a decent understanding of dota and I will write the guide with more detail.

Server: Doesn't matter. I don't care if you have a thick accent from SEA. I'm more concerned about a positive behavior score.

Experience: At least 500 games. Sorry, but i'm not interested in teaching someone from scratch. People from scratch will always improve faster than someone who has been stuck at 1.5k mmr for 2 years.

Age: 16+. I have no interested in trying to watch my language around a child, nor do i think a child would have the maturity level to commit.

If you'd like this offer, i will promise you this. I will write 3 hero guides for you of your choice, and i will work diligently with you to earn you 3 medals, or roughly 500 mmr. As long as we get along, i can promise you this is do-able. I'll remake this post when it's not 3am to get more publicity, but i wanted to give people a heads up.

This is one of my old posts. https://www.reddit.com/r/learndota2/comments/7ygra0/i_will_watch_any_replay_and_comment_for_you_post/

Hope to hear from you guys soon

Edit: Title should have said "thought"

Edit 2: I'm not making a new thread. This one got plenty of attention. At some point today or tonight i'll start messaging people.

Edit 3: I'm still giving people time to see this. It's about 2:30pm EST right now. I have no deadline. I'll probably go to bed and pick people later. Thanks everyone who helped make this popular so far.
