/r/leagueoflegends - Monthly Meta Talk Thread - August 2018

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 03:06 PM PDT

Welcome to the first edition of /r/leagueoflegends's Monthly Meta Discussion thread.

There has been some excellent feedback recently that /r/LeagueofMeta, the subreddit to discuss /r/lol Meta topics such as moderator actions, flairs, ways to improve the subreddit feels underexposed and could use some fresh discussion. It is a place where you can discuss rules, contact moderators, and offer suggestions/feedback to shape the subreddit.

This sticky topic will last for a week, and users can feel free to discuss anything to do with the subreddit, moderators, or anything that is disallowed in our usual Meta rules.

Unlike the Quarterly Moderation threads, this thread is meant for you, the community to discuss with one another ways to improve, adjust, or change things that go on with the subreddit. Feel free to offer ideas, feedback, or gripes that you might have. Please try to offer constructive criticism, i.e. instead of saying "I don't like flairs" say something "I don't like the flairs because it's hard to see against the background." By suggesting feedback in this manner, it gives us a path to help improve our subreddit.

At the end of the time period for the Sticky, the top comments will be looked at and posted in /r/leagueofmeta for community discussion, as well as pored through by the Moderation Team to see what ideas, feedback and gripes might be worth looking into, implementing, or addressing.

Please feel free to bring anything up - And if you are interested in getting involved with the discussion of the subreddit itself, feel free to head to /r/leagueofmeta - Subscribe, and lend your voice to the discussions there.

Please make sure comments are about the topic as anything off topic will be removed.

I feel like Braum's money bag should be flipped around

https://prnt.sc/kdgzcy The way it's flipped around now seems kinda odd to me and i'm surprised it was even pushed through. The way braums money bag is flipped doesn't really make sense, the weight should be more distributed towards the back of the bag. I poorly photoshopped what i think it should look like on the second image. (Edited image placements for clarity)

Are all of us even playing the same game?

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 08:21 AM PDT

Last season I peaked at Diamond 4, 73 LP. I'm Plat 1 currently but I was diamond 5 last month. I know this is nothing to brag about and I don't think I'm even good at this game. But it seems like every single day on this subreddit I see someone in high plat/low diamond "quitting" the game, or yelling at Riot that inting and trolling is out of control

This has been my elo for 3 seasons now, so I guess I can validly give my opinion.... I honestly don't deal with many trolls or inters. I have no idea wtf some of you are playing that you can honestly say you have trolls in almost every game. I get a troll MAYBE once every 10 games, and real inters are even more rare.

I'm not sure if some of you have a teammate that plays bad and you come on here just to flame them even if they weren't trolling? I agree real trolls and inters are toxic, but anyone that says they have them in almost every game is delusional or exaggerating

EDIT: for everyone saying "when my bot lane is 0-5 or my top laner is 0-3 at 10 minutes they're trolling" no they're not. You could say they're playing like dogshit sure. But inting and trolling are not synonymous with bad play. So stop being parrots to streamers and calling people inters everytime they die.

Inting/trolling is something another player does INTENTIONALLY

EDIT 2: I'm NA. I don't care if EUW is more toxic you don't have to keep telling me it doesn't progress the topic in any way. Congrats your region is more toxic than mine? I'm not sure if that's what you wanted to here but good to know, we can stop bringing that up

If you want to find Zoe's weakness, look at who beats her most

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 06:44 AM PDT

If you can't figure it out by experience, try analytics.

https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/platinum/plus/champion/Zoe/Middle/

Let's have a look at 4 lines. Zoe countered by, Zoe globally countered by, Zoe counters, Zoe globally counters.

Lolalytics provides an excellent tool which is the "delta", indicating how much more a champion wins a certain matchup compared to the average performance of the champ.

If draven hard countered zoe, draven would have a very negative delta on zoe's page.

So let's look at zoe's statistical counters and try to get them in classes of similar champs.

Notation: Champion (Zoe's winrate against Champion)

Assassins

Shaco (43.28%)

Wukong (43.86%)

Quinn (45.95%)

Talon (45.96%)

Evelynn (46.5%)

Kassadin (46.89%)

Diana (47.04%)

Ahri (47.40%)

Reliable hard CC champs (point and click or wide hitbox)

Heimerdinger (43.51%)

Malzahar (45.58%)

Sona (45.67%)

Pantheon (45.93%)

Aurelion Sol (46.70%)

Twisted Fate (47.06%)

Who is Zoe strong against?

Control mages and sustain mages:

Azir (58.12%)

Ryze (56.68%)

Syndra (55.01%)

Swain (52.99%)

Vladimir (52.56%)

Cassiopeia (52.44%)

Viktor (52.27%)

Lissandra (52.19%)

The gap between good matchups and bad matchups is a win chance of more than 10%, up to 15%. Nothing unheard of, but it's not something you can ignore. In this sense, Zoe has actually very clear weaknesses and strength, which perfectly fits Riot's goals.

In the counter page, if you rank matchups by increasing delta https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/platinum/plus/champion/Zoe/Middle/counters/

You will see other champions that fit the bill. Akali, Irelia, Jayce, Yasuo, Annie, Fizz, Zed for the most negative deltas.

Likewise for the most positive ones: Corki, Morgana, Orianna, Anivia, Xerath

What does it mean for you when you see Zoe in the opposing team? Don't expect to sit back and relax. All the champs that want a long and calm laning phase get destroyed by Zoe. On the other hand, champions that get in her face LOVE to play against Zoe. Champions that can basically guarantee a hard CC are excellent as well (notable exception: ryze, but he also wants to stay back and farm). So assassins are your best bet against Zoe.

Junglers that can close the gap on her are also very smart picks. Rammus and Nocture are notorious offenders. They can 1v1 you without any trouble if they manages to reach you, even under tower.

Good luck, and git gud

You don't need to quit League altogether, just take a break

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 06:11 AM PDT

There has been a lot of talk on the subreddit recently about players not having as much fun anymore and the concept of stepping away from the game. I want to provide my insight from recent experience to provide an additional point of view.

I've played LoL pretty consistently since S1. I've taken a few small, month or 2 month, breaks along the way. Up until late August 2017, I was playing virtually every day. At the time I remember being frustrated and irritable because of my exposure to LoL and the community. I decided at that point that the game wasn't providing my the enjoyment I wanted and was actually becoming a determinant in my life. I decided to take some time away. I played a handful of games over the course of 10 months (~40 total), which includes a bingefest day with my friends running custom 3v3s. If I take that day out, I played about 25 games from August 2017 until July of this year.

The time off was definitely needed and it allowed me to reset my headspace. Coming back to LoL now makes the game feel so much more fresh and I'm having fun again. The time away from LoL got me away from the trolls, the inters, the chat vitriol, and all the negativity that can come with the game. It was the best thing I did to step away for some time and let the game sit.

My suggestion to anybody who is feeling frustrated by League and the current state of the game, step away for a bit. Now is a good time because we are getting close to Worlds and not as many changes will be coming. It sounds like a hard task to put down a game you've invested so much time into, but just know that League isn't going anywhere and you can take it out of the game closet and brush it off whenever you start to get the itch again.

tl;dr Took almost a year off, started playing again, enjoying the game more than before

Edit: I see a lot of people saying to just quit the game altogether...definitely an option. My initial hope was to provide a point of view that you don't need to quit forever, but that doesn't mean you can't just do that. I wouldn't blame you if you did. I've also seen a lot of feedback saying that taking 10+ months off is virtually quitting and coming back. I can see that perspective. The reason why I did not consider it quitting, is because I had some feeling that I would be back to League at some point, I just didn't know when. If there's one thing that I think should be taken out of this: quit, take a break, keep playing, just do whatever you want, but make the best decision for your personal situation.

Nunu Joins the 1000 Day Club

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 08:47 AM PDT

Hello again everyone! It's that time again, the time to welcome a new member to the illustrious club of champions who have gone 1000 days without getting a new skin. Today's newest member is the next one up for a VGU: IT'S NUNU (specifically Zombie Nunu). He joins the growing group of forgotten champs like Shaco, Xerath, Udyr, and yes the God of the Skinless Urgot (who is slowly approaching 2400 days)

As always, here is a link to the chart I keep updated.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EGOClu2TYHwl6Ub53RkHxcnlw0P4mEFVwCmZq5V331c/edit?usp=sharing

Some other champs that are close to joining are Sona, who just passed the 900 mark and LeBlanc, sitting at 874 days. I would also like to mention that since Aurelion Sol has finally gotten a second skin, the oldest champ with 1 skin now is Kled, currently sitting at 720 days since release.

If you have any fun ideas for future skins, share them. I'd love to see more of what people hope to see in the weeks and months to come.

PSA: Now that lethality varus is seeing more play, here's a little tip to help stack Tear

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 10:02 AM PDT

Even though he doesn't rush tear like ezreal it's still pretty good item to pick up but takes a while to stack due to his high Mana costs however if you use his Q and charge it fully without releasing you will be refunded half the Mana and cooldown and get the tear stack.

Nexus Blitz is like a breath of fresh air for League

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 07:10 AM PDT

If you haven't tried it yet it's live on the PBE. I don't think summoners rift has necessarily stopped being fun, but Nexus Blitz is fun as fuck. It really is a blast to play and feels like you get perfect mix of laning and monkey team-fighting. My only complaint might be that it feels a bit too hectic, but even that seems to be fading as I get a better handle on the mode.

China's Client has LPL stream integration with live stats (Runes, etc) and chat, similar to the LoL Esports website, why isn't this implemented in all clients?

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 02:52 AM PDT

Rusty (LPL Caster) tweeted this picture of the Chinese Client, showing the live stream in the client and the runes below, this is something similar to what you can already see if you watch the LCS stream on the LoL Esports website, with a ton of live stats.

So why isn't this being implemented in the EU and NA client? Why don't we have an LCS live stream tab? The point of the new client was for Riot to be able to streamline more easily new features, but there's still a ton of missing features, and important ones, like Live stream integration with Live stats, which apparently Riot China already made.

Quick Notes: Introducing Strategic Coaches

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 02:07 PM PDT

If you aren't having fun anymore it might be time to stop playing.

Posted: 31 Jul 2018 08:49 PM PDT

I watched scarras video today on the topic and I'm not here for doom and gloom or to say the game is bad or failing. If you are having fun with the game then don't let people tell you otherwise.

But the game is not going to suddenly get fun again for those of you that don't even get enjoyment out of winning. Not to say it won't ever. But I know too many people (including me for awhile) that just keep playing, and after every match ask themselves why do I keep playing this game. I don't even have fun anymore.

But We just keep playing the game hoping that next patch just fixes why we hate playing it. Or maybe the next one. Next season will bring that league of legends I love back again. And instead of taking a break we just keep queuing into the frustration.

Maybe the game gets better in a few patches or next season but my point is the game isn't going to get better next match, or tomorrow.

Anyway thanks for reading my bullshit nobody cares about.

Tldr; if you aren't having fun stop playing for your sake and for everyone else that IS enjoying it.

Mecha Aurelion Sol feedback

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 07:06 AM PDT

In case you havn't seen the skin yet

While I appreciate Riot listening to the community and finally giving us an Aurelion Sol skin, I feel like this skin doesn't do the long wait any justice. Im not a huge fan of the Mecha-theme in general, but I like ASol's base model in this skin. What I do not like are his stars, a major aspect of ASol, they don't seem to represent anything, they're just floating pieces of metal. I also heavily dislike the special effects. In ASol's base skin his Q is a Galaxy with the yellowish star in the middle and the blue around it,there is so much detail in his Q! Here its really just a green circle, his effects on his Q, E and R all feel very 'empty'.
