Focused Feedback: The current state of Crucible Matchmaking. Post Patch 1.2.3

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 06:20 AM PDT

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Crucible Matchmaking' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the Sub as time goes on.

I've got the "I can't wait to play Destiny once I get home from work" syndrome again, which makes me so happy!!

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 09:31 AM PDT

I totally stopped playing the game after I finished the Warmind story and prior to that, I was playing the game regularly since its beta.

The solstice event got me to launch the game again and I'm surprised by how great the grind is! Not only that, but since I haven't done any of the end-game content of Warmind, I get to do that when I'm burned out from trying to progress through the solstice event.

I spent the whole weekend getting my masterwork Polaris Lance in addition to leveling up my solstice gear. I haven't played this much Destiny in a LONG time.

And snipers don't suck now? I'm so excited to see how else this game has improved!

Pet peeve with Sparrows. Why are some of them 150 speed?

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 05:20 AM PDT

Edit: Hi front page, first time I've gotten here. Bungie, bring back SRL!!! I don't care if it's the original D1 SRL maps just give us our races back and make it a full time game mode that has a weekly milestone (or whatever the new system is gonna be)

I mean I'm more than happy to dismantle everything from Eververse but why are they 150? It's just begging not to be used at all since the useful Sparrows are 160.

Since there's nothing useful about perks other than that quick spawn one there's only customisation that effects Sparrows. So even if there's a really good looking sparrow you won't use it if it's not 160

Then there's the Faction and Iron Banner Sparrows. They're 150 speed. Even if I wanted to represent my faction or show off my Iron Gallop I'd be slower than every other Guardian out there. It gives me no reason to want to earn them let alone use them

Also why doesn't Xur sell sparrow engines to bump up the speed to 160 or whatever Bungie want the top speed to be.

Edit: sparrow engines and emotes as tricks???? Hi Amanda, I see you've got dust on you because you're so uSeLeSs

Bungie: Please reduce cast time of Barricades and Rifts

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 02:16 AM PDT

The wind-up for both abilities are horrendously slow compared to the Hunters practically instant dodge. Being able to throw them up just as fast would be nice.

Solo Redux Missions on Blue Quality Armor Are Incredibly Difficult and Time Consuming.....

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 07:54 AM PDT

.....and I absolutely loved every second of it.

I had the day off yesterday so I figured it would be the perfect time to grind out my brand new blue quality SoH armor. My buddy was supposed to help me grind the missions yesterday but ended up getting called into work. I figured, "No big deal, I did fine before on the 'Homecoming' mission". So I hop into the 'Homecoming' mission. I run up the ramp and toss my usual grenade into the mob to the right. But something is different. It didn't even kill the red bars. My initial thought was maybe I misplaced the grenade. Halfway through that thought, my thought shifted to the death of my character. I was slightly taken aback. I mean I was up there for about 3 total seconds before getting absolutely shredded. "Ok, that was weird", I thought. So I ran back up the ramp, pulled out my Ikelos Shotgun, ran up to the shielded mini boss Centurion, got my punch off to activate the shotgun perk, and before I could get my fourth shot of fully auto shotty goodness off, I was dead again.

That's when I realized, this was going to be a lot harder than I originally thought.

All in all, the 5 missions solo took me around 4 hours. Learning moments came in the form of swift deaths from an enemy I didn't notice or an unexpected mob around a corner. Even the unannounced timer in the last room on '1AU' caused more than a couple of wipes. And the checkpoints were VERY unforgiving. I would play for 20 minutes at some points and get killed by "insert insane damage proponent here" and it would send me back what would seem like MILES, erasing the sense of accomplishment that was building with every killed enemy. By the time I finished the last mission (which inadvertently and fittingly was 'Payback') it was a sense of accomplishment that I've only had a few times in Destiny. Usually after beating a particularly tough raid boss or when I finished the Whisper mission on my Warlock first try with 53 seconds left. It's a feeling that Destiny as a whole (especially Destiny 2) has lacked.

In my off time between D1 and the slow period of D2, I tried a bunch of different games to fill the space. To try and find a sense of accomplishment and to fill a void. I ended up playing Dark Souls 3. I've never played a game where I've had to think so much in my life. It was very frustrating and incredibly difficult especially having never played those games before and not knowing the mechanics. The thing about Dark Souls though is that because it's so difficult, every inch of progress you make, every boss you kill, it all feels so deeply satisfying once you accomplish it because you really had to work and try to get there. This is how I felt in those solo Destiny 2 missions yesterday. I'll most likely be trying them solo on my other two characters as well. I would recommend you do the same at least once (even if it's just one mission). 'Chosen' and '1AU' were definitely the hardest and also my favorites so I would personally recommend those two.

I sincerely hope that there is more content like this in the months and years to come.

TLDR; The SoH missions (blue armor) were incredibly difficult playing on solo and the sense of accomplishment from beating them was something I haven't felt enough in Destiny.

We need a Vex themed expansion, with a mission that sends us back in time to the Destiny 1 tower to steal something from ourselves.

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 10:32 AM PDT

Since it would be in our best interest to not screw with the timeline like Barry Allen, our ghost wouldn't say anything to the NPCS, but we could explore the tower again and hear the old voice lines, get on top of the vaults, etc.

Never thought I'd finish an EP.

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 02:13 AM PDT

Was heading to Ana to turn in some tokens when I instanced in to a group of 5 guardians running EP. Figured I'd hop in and work on my Solstice armor grind, and then I realized that this group meant business when they were mowing down the first 3 waves. So I switched into my best gym clothes to get sweaty. Several waves layer I walked away the proud owner of an EP Bond and a handful of shaders. Never did I think I would run EP to completion, but now I can say I have experienced it. Thanks group of randos!

Edit: Oh hey, front page (of the sub anyways), thanks again rando guardians!

Edit 2: I ran through my winning instance around 4am EST, in case you are thinking I was with you.

Int/Disc/Str stats were far more exciting and rewarding than Res/Mob/Rec.

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 11:32 AM PDT

In my opinion, stats on armor in D1 were simply better than the current model in every way.

D1: "Hmm, do I want more grenades, more special melee, or more super.....?"

D2: "Do I want to die quicker, be easier to shoot, or take longer to regen shield....?"

It just doesn't feel like you're increasing a power in D2. You're simply deciding in which way you will be less competitive.
D1 truly felt like a power progression, culminating in the maxing out two of your abilities. Now it feels like you're simply choosing the lesser of 3 evils.

So anyway, bring back Int/Disc/Str.

/u/Inferential_Distance said it best in his post below:

The problem with Res/Rec/Mob is that they give pretty shit bonuses. Going from 0 to 10 Res is 8% more HP. Yeah, 50% reduced cooldown on two abilities is ***WAY*** better and exciting than 8% more HP.

A Solstice of Heroes style retooling be a great remedy for The Dawning

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 05:24 AM PDT

Everyone loves The Dawning armor, but hated that the only way to get it was either amazing RNG or spending real money on lootboxes. Everyone also hated that there was essentially no real content for The Dawning. Bungie tried to create some grind with the daily gifts, but the community didn't take very kindly to that attempt. I feel like SoH could be leveraged to make the winter event something that people actually look forward to.

We would start the event by opening a package containing a new armor set. I'm torn on whether it should start as some very pedestrian armor like the scorched Solstice set, or if it should be a take on bad holiday gifts. Think socks, long underwear, a hand-knit sweater, stocking cap, and mittens. I think that would be really fun, but then no one would want to upgrade them. Maybe they could be 10 power, unupgradeable items like the Festival of the Lost masks and we could reacquire them later?

Anyway, we would have specific tasks to do to progress the armor set through several stages of visual and power level upgrades, finishing with a design as stunning as The Dawning sets we've come to love. They could work snowballs into it somehow instead of the elemental orbs. And other winter related stuff that I'm not creative enough to think of on my own. Help me out here!

Bungie could still get their microtransaction fix by offering an intriguing additional loot pool, plus glows like we have with SoH or chroma from D1. Anyone who wants all the aesthetic extras can spend some money to get them. Anyone who doesn't like MTX is still guaranteed the awesome armor set, plus whatever items they get randomly through Dawning engrams earned by playing the game.

What do you guys think? Would this be a good way to spice up the winter event, and help stave off the content drought between DLC's? Any other ideas to change things up or build off this and make it even better?

Cool little detail I just came across when doing Adventures

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 09:57 AM PDT

I was doing some adventures on the EDZ when I ended up doing the one where you have to melee some Taken to help with an experiment for Asher Mir

In the second stage where you'd go to the Canyon to spread around the Taken Blights, normally you'd have to start with placing them first and then destroying them afterwards

However an other player happened to be in the instance and at the same stage as I was, so instead of having to place those Blights again, Ghost instead remarked "Looks like somebody else is doing the calculations that Asher Mir is conducting. Let's help!" and I could go on with destroying the Blights instead

Just a small but kinda neat thing I wanted to share

Destiny 2: Forsaken – Cayde’s Exotic Stash Pre-Order Trailer

"The tube" in 1AU mission is one of the most gorgeous moments in Destiny 2

Posted: 05 Aug 2018 06:34 PM PDT

I'm talking about the tube you need to take in order to reach the higher levels of Almighty. You know, the one where the EPIC music of DUDUDUDUDU DUNDUNDUDU DUDUDUDU DUDUDUDUM with the absolutely gorgeous vista of the fucking Sun on your right. I feel so pumped every time I'm doing that Redux mission.

One thing that Destiny gets so right is how breathtaking some of the vistas are, that is for sure.

I may or may not have realized that "Paragon" mods were for your secondary ability, and weren't a prestige mod that decreases cooldown time for both grenades and melee

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 05:29 AM PDT

I've been making builds focused around "Class ability cooldowns" because I thought that meant grenade + melee abilites as opposed to just one or the other.

About that....

I'll just go now

MAN it was a dang good Destiny 2 weekend for me.

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 10:55 AM PDT

I started D2 on PS4 on release never having played D1. Before the first DLC came out my fiance and I switched to PC. I haven't played much since Warmind and I haven't done any Destiny raiding before. Enter: Solstice of Heroes event. When the event started last Tuesday I wasn't even level 30 and was around power 300ish.

This weekend I: Got my purple solstice set done, got whisper of the worm, finished Leviathan for the first time, got a masterwork midnight coup, got that badass leviathan sword also masterworked, got the leviathan fully auto scout rifle, found my first catalyst(crimson), and finally got a uriels and a better devils. This weekend has me so damn hyped for Forsaken.

Sorry, I don't really have dudes to play with on Destiny aside from a couple IRL friends and they don't really play much so I just wanted to tell some peeps about all the cool shit I found. yay destiny

Raid.Report update (Speed Rank, Speedrun Leaderboards, Flawless Badge, and more)

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 07:13 AM PDT

raid.report

Last week Bungie added the ability to see if a given raid is a checkpoint or fresh (thanks u/EdgarVerona!). With that data, we can roll out some cool new features:

- Speed Rank returns!

- Speedrun Leaderboards only include fresh runs

- Added Flawless badge (works just like D1 "Flawless Raider" trophy)

- Fastest stat now only includes full runs

- Clears Rank and leaderboards are based on full runs

Your speed rank is based on the combined time of your fastest full completion in each raid. Those who have not completed all the raids will be ranked below those who have.

I am really excited to finally bring speedrun leaderboards to the community, as it has been my goal for the last year.

Edit: There has been a lot of feedback to bring back the old clears leaderboards (including checkpoints) in addition to the new full clears leaderboards, and that might be something we can look into based on additional feedback.

My entire clan came back to Destiny 2 today and I've never been happier

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 01:09 AM PDT

My clan of 8 people saw how much Destiny 2 I've been playing as of the past few weeks and with solstice of heroes and feeling drained of Fortnite, they all bought the expansion pass (plus it was on sale). The past few hours have been the most exciting time of my play through of Destiny 2: catching people up on the changes and new content. My friends were genuinely overwhelmed with the amount of content to finish now (especially with the solstice armour).

I know a lot of people have been playing alone because most of their clan left so I'm truly grateful that my friends are back. Hopefully you guys can get your friends back too, because I genuinely believe Destiny 2 is in a good spot and with Forsaken on the horizon, things are looking up.

I just wanted to share my day with someone so thanks for reading and happy solstice guardians :)

Max power/ light level level must matter again. (The power/light level beyond the activity recommendation, like it was in Destiny1)

Posted: 06 Aug 2018 03:08 AM PDT

Example: The last encounter of Spire of Stars is maxed at power/ light level 380. But it does not matter if you are 380 or if you are on the max at 405. There is no point in getting to max power/ light level. There is no difference as the power/ light level is capped at 380 for this encounter - but there should be a difference.

Max power did matter in Destiny1 and it was fine. You got rewarded for grinding out the very max power/ light level. In Destiny2 it doesn't matter if you grind out max power/ light level or not. And this needs to change again. There should be a noticeable difference if you are going into the last encounter of SoS with a 380 light level or 405.

Back in Destiny1 they got this scaling right. The punishment of being under the recommended power/ light level was even much higher than in Destiny2. Just a view levels below and received much more damage from the enemies. But you also got much more resilience when you were above and beyond the recommended power/ light level of said activity. You received much less damage but also did much more damage. You had a reason why to grind out the last view power/ light levels.

We are on a good track but this needs to change back to what it was in order to maintain the good feeling of space magic power fantasy.

EDIT: Rumors says that in D2 only your Abilities get a damage gain when beyond the recommended power level of said activity.
