How to stop constant string of pressure?

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 04:54 AM PDT

Hey sub.

So I've been playing SF for a few years on and off but never ever get past super bronze. I have learnt to stop pressing buttons when I'm on a block string but say Ryu will end it with a fireball then just jump and grab or do the block strings again. Blanka doing his ball but he is too far away to punish, Balrog dashing then sweeping. All of these are getting me really down as I'm just under constant pressure and if I try to dash away I get caught.

I have played lots of matches with Ryu, Akuma, Cammy, Bison, Nash, Guile & Menat, but same things I'm either defending too much or I just get hit non stop.

When I play balls to the wall and just throw things out randomly I win and climb so super but then I try and learn the game and be safe and punish things like everyone says to to get to silver but I just get beat and go back down to rookie or bronze again.

My AA game is OK and I have some jump in combos and some punishes with multiple characters but I can't seem to start offence and stay on offence very well.

TLDD: Any help on how to improve my offence so I can stop being pressured all the time?

Nearly 100 Hours Played: Still Bronze

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 07:32 AM PDT

SFV was the first Street Fighter I actually tried to learn. I played Super Turbo and Alpha 3 but it was mostly button mashing. Now I can actually do a few bread and butter combos with Akuma/Ryu. But I always get bodied online despite how much I play or practice. Am I just too far behind to enjoy the game beyond combo practice? Just a little disappointed that I'm not getting any better.

Street Fighter III voice acting

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 07:01 AM PDT

The consensus appears to be that the voice acting of the characters in 3rd Strike is great and the New Generation/2nd Impact voice acting sucks, but what about it that makes it suck?

For example, I think Wataru Takagi's Ryu is a much closer interpretation to what Ryu sounds like coming from Super Street Fighter II X than Toru Okawa's gruff terse utterance that's common with every character when the whole voice cast got overhauled for 3rd Strike.

Which character has the worst VTs?

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 09:02 AM PDT

Posting this to shit on Sakura's VTs lol, they're the most uninspired things ever, Ryu's VT1 Lite, and "like 2 new combos: The VT"

you can also shit on ones that have bad balancing i guess~

Over Thinking The Neutral Game?

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 08:15 AM PDT

Street Fighter 5 is my first real attempt at getting into a fighting game but I have known about Reads and the Mind Games behind the fights for a very long time and it's the main reason I wanted to get into them.

However When I started playing, I feel as if I'm getting too wrapped up in trying to predict my opponents in the Neutral game because I'm not paying enough attention to what is actually happening during the match (Like Spacing and Punishes)

So Basically what I want to know is...

  • Am I focusing to much on Reads?

  • Am I Trying to hard to predict for my skill level?

  • If so when is the best time to try and read the opponent?
