Posted: 06 Jul 2018 10:07 PM PDT

In this weekly thread you can discuss the Defense roles of Overwatch to your heart's delight. What are the characteristics of those heroes?

The main objective of the defense role is to guard locations, create choke points, and establish a front. They may have long range weapons or the ability to create turrets, and excel at area denial.

Overwatch Wikia

You can find a list of the current defensive heroes on the Overwatch Hero Overview.

Share guides and strategies that are valuable to a defensive Overwatch Hero or other tips and tricks that helped you to get better. You can also propose ideas why a certain hero is bad in your eyes and how to make it better. Please do so in a constructive way!

Overwatch World Cup 2018 Roster Introduction: South Korea

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 08:34 AM PDT

I will be making team roster introductions for all 24 Overwatch World Cup Country rosters, with a lot of help from /u/sorglos. Hopefully this can be useful to those who don't know all the players on all the teams - which I expect to be most everybody for one team or another!

Do you want to help with your country? I'd love you to! See below for more info.

South Korea - Twitter

Committee:

General Manager: YongBongTang - Twitch / Youtube

YongBongTang is a seasoned Korean commentator and analyst. YBT covered all 4 seasons of APEX and is now currently commentating for Korean Contenders and the Korean Overwatch League stream. He is a pillar of the Korean Overwatch esports scene, who has played a large role in the development and growth of this scene since its inception. He regularly analyses Overwatch League and Contenders matches which can be found on his youtube channel. Many of these videos are given english subtitles to provide individuals outside Korea accessibility to his outstanding abilities.

Coach: Pavane - Twitter

Now the coach of NYXL, Pavane coached both Luxury Watch Blue & Red at different points, two Korean teams that played in APEX. With most of NYXL's players coming from these two rosters, many of these players are still under his wing in OWL. Pavane has always been highly regarded as a coach, known for developing many new and innovative strategies back in the APEX days and has helped NYXL in their domination of the Overwatch League.

Community Representative: Flowervin - Twitch / Youtube

Flowervin is the current manager and alongside her husband Runner, co-owner of fan-favourite Korean team Runaway. Both provide a team house for Runaway and have very large online followings on their streams and social media, and so has experience making videos and other content.

Players

Tanks

Pan-Seung "Fate" Koo - Twitter / Twitch

Fate is one of a number of top tier Korean Main Tank players, however has not played on a Korean team since March 2017 on Mighty AOD - Instead he rose to notoriety when he joined Immortals, where in his first tournament, Contenders Season Zero, he helped lead his team to becoming the champions. With the Immortals roster joining Overwatch League under the LA Valiant, he has continued to perform at the top level, where Valiant finished the season in overall second place and won the Stage 4 title. He is one of the most consistent tanks, displaying great proficiency on all three main tanks heroes. He is also known for coining the nickname "Leak boy" for esports journalist Slasher. Here Fate juggles Muma off the edge of the map.

Tae-Hong "Meko" Kim - Twitter / Twitch

Meko is the flex tank player for NYXL, and widely regarded as the best DVa player in the world. While DVa is his specialty, he has also displayed a fearsome Roadhog, and his Zarya has shown to be strong in the instances he has played it.. His superb consistency is yet another part of NYXL that has made them the powerhouse that they are in OWL. Besides his great mechanics, he also excels at interrupting enemy ultimates and abilities, even without using any of his own.

DPS

Jong-Ryeol "Saebyeolbe" Park - Twitter / Twitch

Saebyeolbe (SBB) is a DPS player for NYXL, known for hitscan ability, in particular for his Tracer. Despite not having the absolute best Tracer mechanics, Saebyeolbe is known for his unequalled mastery of Tracer's different play styles and his tendency to switch between them depending on his opponent. As OWL Season 1 progressed, he displayed a strong Widowmaker, McCree and Brigitte. Back on his LW Blue days, he was a top-tier, fearsome Roadhog player. He carries a picture of his wife to each match and puts in his keyboard as his "good luck charm", as part of the "Married Man Meta". Finally, Saebyeolbe is one of the most clutch players, often going into a new level of play to carry in clutch situations, such as this incredible play on Gibraltar - pay attention to the timer when SBB resets it.

Hae-Seong "Libero" Kim - Twitter / Twitch

The OG Hanzo. Before his start with Meta Athena, Libero was famed as the best Korean Hanzo in the early days of Overwatch. During APEX S2, Libero became a break-out DPS player in regards to hero flexibility, demonstrating his ability to play most of the DPS heroes at the time as well as Dva. His deep hero pool enabled Meta Athena to run a multitude of different comps and strategies, including famous Mei wall boosts that helped Meta Athena in their run through APEX. Libero still remains one of the most flexible players in the league, albeit now mostly switching between several DPS heroes rather than roles, barring his short venture into support in the pre-season. One of the Mei Boost strategies.

Jae-Hyeok "Carpe" Lee - Twitter / Twitch

Carpe is the hitscan DPS for the Fusion, and started his pro career back on BK Stars in APEX alongside LA Valiant's Bunny. Known for being the carry of his team back in his APEX days, Carpe has affirmed his position as the backbone of the Fusion, with many of their results determined by Carpe's stellar performance. While he has mostly focused on hitscan heroes in OWL, he has also played Genji and Hanzo, and shown a very strong Zarya. Popular candidate for league MVP, Carpe is a living highlight reel, constantly churning out clutch performances such as this miraculous fight win.

Supports

Seong-Hyun "Jjonak" Bang - Twitter / Twitch

Starting the season as a rookie recruited off the ladder, Jjonak has single handedly redefined the role Zenyatta can play, going toe-to-toe with the best DPS players in the league and coming out on top more often than not. He has become the unparalleled best Zenyatta player in OWL, and his incredible damage output and aim has catapulted him to being one most convincing candidates for MVP of the Inaugural Overwatch League Season. The synergy between Jjonak and Ark is arguably the strongest aspect of New York Excelsior, such as Ark's constant peel for Jjonak and the unusual amount that he is the receiver of damage boosts. Here are two examples.

Yeon-Jun "Ark" Hong - Twitter / Twitch

Ark is a main support player for NYXL, widely regarded as the best Mercy player in the League. Before OWL he was known for his Lucio on his former team LW Red, but we have seen little of this due to Mercy's prominence in the meta over OWL Season 1. For players with over 10 minutes playtime in Stage 4, only he and his fellow NYXL Main Support Anamo had under 3 deaths per 10 minutes on average, setting them far above any other players, support or otherwise. He is also known for his incredible positivity and supportive nature as a teammate, such that his alternative career to becoming a pro Overwatch player was to be an IRL support player (he studied nursing at one of the best Universities in Korea).

By me, shomman. Lots of help with this one from u/Sorglos.

I'd love help from locals of each country - some of the less well known countries/players/committee members are quite difficult to get information on in English, and I am a monolingual pleb.

Either message me here or on Discord (shomman#0001) if you'd like to help out - I'd love some help from the community!

Also let me know if I made mistakes please and thank you.
