| PullsDay Thursday: Post Your Popped Packs Posted: 18 Jul 2018 05:10 PM PDT Greetings Travellers, This is a new weekly thread to showcase your crazy or unlucky pack openings, for F2P players and whales alike! The goal of this thread is to draw discussion around pack openings into a centralized post every week, so that players have a dedicated place to share their pulls. Whether you got a sweet Tavern Brawl reward or Arena chest, we want to see it! You can also post in /r/HSPulls. Pack Openings are still relegated to a megathread on the first day of a new expansion Note: I am a bot. Questions or feedback regarding this thread? Message the moderators. [link] [comments] | ||

| Buckets! Lightforge Arena Tier List Update Posted: 19 Jul 2018 05:08 AM PDT The Lightforge Arena Tier List now has Buckets! =D As you may know, Arena offering rates were changed back in March to the current system whereby Blizzard tries to offer you cards in the same tier in each pick, to create more interesting draft decisions. Blizzard determines these tiers, or, "buckets" as we call them, using a mix of winrates and pickrates from the average playerbase. It's had its ups and downs, and for better or worse, it looks like it's here to stay. Following Blizzard's big change to Arena drafting in the bucket system, we waited a couple months for things to settle down and the rules to be refined. Now, we've partnered up with Arena Drafts to do offering rate analysis with their gathered data to provide a better viewing format for the Tier List. Please check them out for the next expansion and help us gather some quick data once the new cards come out! As usual, Tier List numbers you see are 99%+ produced by our proprietary algorithm, and evaluates the raw technical value of the card in the meta without taking win rates into consideration. 100 is the average printed card, and the average card in deck is different class by class, but somewhere around 120 overall. You can find the "Buckets" view as the default view in the first pull down menu, which also has "Classic" (the way tier lists have traditionally been ordered), and "Mana" (my personal favorite for easily finding cards). In the "Buckets" view, you can find the "top" half of each bucket at the top, and the "bottom" half at the bottom of each column. Each offering bucket will be composed of adjacent "top" half and "bottom" half, although they do not need to be from the exact same bucket. For example, this means "top" half of bucket #3 may be offered with the "bottom" half of bucket #2, or the "bottom" half of bucket #3. Hope this helps navigation of the Lightforge Tier List! Some Stray Observations on Misbucketed Cards. I listed out some trends I saw in Blizzard misbucketing, where our Tier List values are more than 25% different (or, moving down from avg of 2nd bucket to top of 7th bucket). Too Low: Small Poisonous Stuff. (Emperor Cobra, Giant Wasp, Stubborn Gastropod, Webweave, Druid of the Swarm) Average players hold out for value and lose games with these cards, very very frequently. So, their win rates are always going to be poor compared to their actual value. Remember, if you can guarantee a trade into a 2 drop, Gastropod's fine, into a 3-drop? now you're at HUGE value. Please don't hold out for that Ultrasaur and get removed by a 2-damage removal in the late game. These are cards are amazing, all heavily underbucketed, we promise. Odd Card Draws and Cycles. (Tracking, Primordial Glyph, Potion of Heroism, Shadow Visions, Blessing of Wisdom, Book of Specters, Wild Growth, Fan of Knives, Pick Pocket, Mimic Pod, Sprint, Spirit Echo, Commanding Shout) Longer games and a need to know when to cycle the card for nothing and when to hold out for value, or how to best trigger these odd card draws to their biggest positive effect. Apparently not so easy. While all card draws, including basic ones like Arcane Intellect, are a bit underbucketed, the tricky/weird ones are where you'll get a ton of value if you can properly assess your situation. High Tempo Removals w/ Conditions/Cost. (Naturalize, Betrayal, Shadow Word: Death, Shadow Word: Pain, Gorehowl, Arcanite Reaper, Woodcutter's Axe, Upgrade, Savage Roar, Stormforged Axe) Tempo is only useful if you know what to do with it. But if you do, it's VERY valuable. These removals gain most of their better-than-normal-removals value from the tempo they generate, and it's no surprise that this extra value is not fully appreciated in win rates. There's usually a cost to this tempo, and that creates a lot of choices of when and whether to play these cards. My suspicion is that like the small poisonous stuff, players are holding out for the value, rather than just taking the tempo. I've won a number of games by Naturalizing 1-mana or 2-mana minions, and haven't yet lost one because of that move. Further lowering the avg win rates, all of these cards change usages depending on how the deck is built, so it takes a bit of arena sense to master their usage. Warlock Board Clears. (Defile, Hellfire, Twisting Nether, Shadowflame) It's an odd predicaments Warlocks are put in by the bucket system. They have too many board clears, so none of them stand out, but then they all get bucketed so low and stay there. However, if each of these board clears were moved UP 2 buckets, all of the sudden the scarcity of board clears would make all of them 2 more buckets higher, rather than lowering their win rates as would result in any other card being moved up a bucket. One of the nuances of the bucket system that goes underappreciated. In their current state, deck construction determines when you take these. Defile and Shadowflame are about equally misbucketed so go for those harder, but make sure you don't leave a draft without 3 copies of the above. After that, you enter the territory of having potentially too many. This is a key reason Warlocks have been generally high since the bucketing system started. Shaman Premium Cards. (Earthen Might, Volcano, Unstable Evolution, Lightning Storm, Crushing Hand) So, most of these are in the 2nd bucket, but they are so wildly powerful that they should all be in the top half of the top bucket, no excuses. If you're wondering why Shaman's been doing so well since the bucket system was introduced, it's no small part due the systemic underbucketing of these cards. Even recently, when Blizzard split the buckets up, ALL of these cards besides Earthen Might (which is in a ridiculously low 5th bucket), were adjusted DOWN. Apparently they're too complicated for average players to get right? Too High: Not a lot of cards here, just a small collection of wildly misbucketed cards, mostly from Witchwood. From Night Prowler (which Blizzard hilariously started in the top bucket at launch) to Walnut Sprite, it'd be nice to finally get to play with these cards once they get rebucketed. I'm sure Blizzard's internal stats don't justify some of these. The only theme that sticks out is that a lot of very high synergy cards that are low value otherwise are heavily overbucketed, since they should only be taken in high synergy decks, and presumably that's why their win rates stay up. Don't pick these unless you already have the deck. Examples include: Drygulch, Duskbreaker. Shoutout and huge thanks to Tarrot and Jarkinhwyk, for keeping their excellent spreadsheet of the buckets updated. The community really would have been at a loss without the superfast work they put in as soon as the new system was announced. We calculated things independently and there were some discrepencies (nearly all in the last 2 buckets) and they omitted some cards. Overall, their list was very accurate, and if you've been using it so far, you'll find very few changes. Finally, we've also taken this opportunity to dig a few layers deeper into our curve calculator, more precisely accounting for the coin, and scaling of matchups. And some bugs introduced in the mega-June update were fixed. You can see the results in the change log from the site. Generally, 1 drops went up slightly, 3, 6 and 7 drops took a hit in value. Attack heavy minions with low health minions including divine shield and deathrattle curve minions are also much better accounted for, which caused Basilisk to drop down to normal premium levels (half the score of Basilisk is in its curve). As usual, if you want deeper week by week content, you can check out our our Arena-centric Lightforge Podcast and edited-down-for-time 12-Win Run VoDs. Please let us know if you see something odd with the bucket presentation. ADWCTA (Grinning Goat) [link] [comments] | ||

| Scientific domains of classes in Boomsday Project and speculations Posted: 19 Jul 2018 05:42 AM PDT Each class will get a different flavor by specializing in a different area of science and we already know the themes of Paladin, Druid, Mage, Shaman and Rogue:
This leaves us with 4 more classes we don't know the theme of: Priest, Warlock, Hunter and Warrior. Currently we have almost no hints at what the flavor of these classes may be, but here are my speculations based on what branch of science fits well with the core idea of the class:
That's all I could think of, but if you think I've missed something or just have another idea feel free to share it in the comments. EDIT: I screwed up with Shaman, thanks to u/DeFerret82 for pointing out [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 19 Jul 2018 08:09 AM PDT Hi r/hearthstone! Being super hyped about the upcoming expansion, I got to browsing some hearthstone card art a couple of days ago. I quickly noticed how amazingly detailed and large some of the pieces are and how little we actually get to see of them in game. As a film and photography student (knowing my way around photoshop a little) and having way too much time on my hands, I decided to challenge myself to create some bigger than life versions of some iconic class cards. I thought I'd share them here to hear some of you guys' feedback. Thanks a lot for taking a look at my work! (PS: I don't claim to be a skilled at photoshop; this is the first time I do something like this :) [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 19 Jul 2018 07:16 AM PDT I'm working on an alpha version of a mech warlock deck in anticipation of the Boomsday Project. I've fallen into an even list, where only Genn and Glinda are non-mechs. I'm loving the consistency and draw power of the 1 mana hero power, and managing to zoo it up a bit with the even mechs. I don't feel that this works as aggro, so the games often go into the late game where I start to feel the burn of that cheap and plentiful draw, with it eventually becoming a liability to tap any further. Would effectively skipping a turn (albeit with 5 extra armour) be worth gaining that sweet 3 damage lifesteal hero power late game? Even though I have no demons to res? I'm going to try it out but want a gauge on just how crazy an idea it is. [link] [comments] | ||
