Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what do you think of it?

Posted: 29 Jul 2018 02:09 PM PDT

Please use this thread to discuss whatever you've been playing lately (old or new, any platform, AAA or indie). As usual, please don't just list the names of games as your entire post, make sure to elaborate with your thoughts on the games. Writing the names of the games in bold is nice, to make it easier for people skimming the thread to pick out the names.

Please also make sure to use spoiler tags if you're posting anything about a game's plot that might significantly hurt the experience of others that haven't played the game yet (no matter how old or new the game is).

Since this thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts.

For a subreddit devoted to this type of discussion during the rest of the week, please check out /r/WhatAreYouPlaying.

What superficial/minor aspects of a game have prevented you from playing it?

Posted: 29 Jul 2018 10:51 AM PDT

As I have gotten older (I'm 31), I have found myself increasingly put off by certain aesthetic/character design choices in games. For example, I want to play Nier: Automata, but superficially it just looks like Gothic Lolita Anime Waifu Upskirt Simulator: The Game. Similarly, I wanted to play Dragon's Crown, but the completely over the top female character designs were too ridiculous for me to even consider playing the game. I can't even go back and play certain FF games because the character designs are just laughable to me now.

Do any of you have any experiences where superficial/minor aspects of a game have prevented you from playing it?

Why is it that Battlefield clones were forgotten yet many had more features and better mechanics than battlefield?

Posted: 29 Jul 2018 05:13 PM PDT

Seriously it irks me a lot people constantly praise Battlefield 2 as the greatest combined arms FPS ever when other combined arms FPS have surpassed BF in many ways yet are ignored. Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising came out 1 year before Battlefield 2 and it had

128 player servers could go even higher

More Vehicle options transport dune buggies in helicopters could even WALK in helicopters

Vehicles had freaking gear shift options

larger maps

Better customization options for soldiers and weapons

Had usable Mortars before BF3 that played exactly the same

It makes me sad barely anyone I know remembers this game I could have sworn it sold extremely well.

Next Quake Wars Enemy Territory seriously this game was SUPER overlooked when it came out the maps were crafted to promote teamplay and had their own objectives made just for the map so it did not feel like it was tacked on. You could even call in artillery placements or radar arrays to help your team. Even both factions felt different/refreshing to play as and not a reskin with different guns I am kinda pissed the only way I can replay this one is on my Xbox 360.
