Birthday Llama Hotfix

Hey Fortnite Fam,

 

We've seen a large amount of feedback regarding the Birthday Llamas and wanted to inform you on some upcoming changes. We just released a hotfix to address a few issues with the Birthday Llama:

 

  • Dupe Protection not tracking evolved heroes / schematics: With the initial release of the Birthday Llamas the dupe protection feature wasn't tracking items that had been evolved above 1 star. This hotfix will address that and properly prevent duplicates of any items you may have evolved.

  • Error messaging when attempting to open Birthday Llamas: Newer players may have run into an error message when attempting to open a Birthday Llama. This was caused by not having the collection book unlocked when opening the Birthday Llama.

 

We're also making a change to how event survivors appear in these llamas. You may have noticed that the birthday llamas will sometimes roll an Event Survivor instead of a weapon. This will no longer be the case as we have changed the llama to grant a guaranteed Event Weapon and Event Hero in each, while still having the chance to roll an event survivor in one of the other reward slots.

 

We also wanted to give a better understanding on how dupe protection works:

You can still get a duplicate item if you already have all items in that category. An example of this would be: If you have every legendary assault rifle and the llama rolls a legendary assault rifle, you will get a duplicate of one you already have. The system will not pull from another rarity, or from another item category. However, if you are missing a legendary assault rifle in the same scenario, you will get the one that you are missing.

 

Note: Dupe protection only applies to Schematics and Heroes. It does NOT apply to Defenders, survivors, or lead survivors. It also only applies to Epic, Legendary, and Mythic items.

 

There were also some miscommunications on the Birthday Llama containing "double the loot". The Llamas do drop two event items - which is twice as many as a typical Event Llama - and it's guaranteed that at least one of those will be legendary, which is a significant bump up in rarity per normal event llama. However, none of the non-event items dropped by the llama are doubled.

 

Also, we know a lot of you have spent your tickets during the time that these bugs were occurring. For this reason; We will continue to rotate free llamas into the store to keep those Road Trip tickets flowing. So check the store often! We will also be doing a make good that will come with the release of 5.2. More details coming soon.

Birthday Llama Duplicates

Heya Folks,

 

We're aware that players are receiving duplicate items from the Birthday Llama and we understand that it's not a good experience for you to get duplicates of items you already have. There are some bugs associated with the llama that isn't checking against upgraded or favorited items.

 

Don't spend your tickets just yet as we are working out how to resolve this for llamas going forward. We're working hard to get this issue resolved and will provide more updates soon.

 

We are also discussing the best way to address this for anyone who has spent their tickets already.. stay tuned for more details.

The smart loot system was borne out of a positive effort to reduce RNG. Let's not let an error in the code distract us from the fact that it's the anniversary of an amazing game.

Epic will do right by its players, I'm sure.

I liked being able to control jump height

EPIC changed the jumping in Save the World today to match Battle Royale, which means we can no longer control our jump height. Instead you always jump Max height, which has proved to be pretty annoying in Battle Royale, especially when trying to jump through windows and other awkward gaps.

I can no longer jump through small gaps in cramped places, as I will just hit my head on the ceiling. Overall I feel this change takes away control from the player and it feels bad. Reading the change in the patch notes actually upset me, as I have long hated the jumping in Battle Royale.

This change might not bother other players. All I know is I greatly appreciated being able to control my jump height. Hopefully we get an option to specify our jumping preferences in the future.

Why has the 5.1 update turned many people into thankless babies?

Let me start with yes, it is annoying to have things not always work out in your favor all the time. We all have been there.

Whether you spent your tickets before the announcement, whether you opened all your llamas right away and now expect compensation. Just accept it. Look it's unfortunate they told us double loot and instead we get 6 cards, but all of you crying and complaining to epic doesn't help. So what you missed out on some rare or uncommon loot you would have gotten from the other 6 cards. Everyone still gets a promised epic or legendary hero and schematic, that hasn't changed.

Now the issue with the duplication blocker not working is something epic is currently fixing and I'm sure they will do something to right the mistake.

Besides that just stop with the comments and posts like "epic really screwed this up" "give me all my wasted 3k tickets" I can't believe they sneakily changed what our gifts are" "we all need free llamas after this" We literally just got a free Shmorgashboard llama yesterday with 1,5k tickets. Wasn't that lovely of epic to for us??

Please just enjoy Fortnite's 1 year birthday and look forward to amazing things they have planned.

Tl;dr Stop bitching and enjoy what epic has given us and they will bring us in the future

As a twine peaks player, I thought I'd amuse myself by watching kids wake up for their daily trades and scamming and such; well, to make a long story short, I came across alot of unhappy kids that claim their "game is bugged" due to them not being able to do missions higher than their level.

Can We Just Stop and Say How Cool Canny Valley Is?

I suppose I should have included some "God Shots" of the new Canny Valley biome, but I'm pretty sure everybody is playing it?

Instead, I'd rather this be a big Thank You / Kudos / Thumbs up to the Art Department and Environmental Artists who did what I consider a superb job on the new biome!

It's not as easy as one might think to use very stylized art assets to create something "believable", but Epic nailed it, IMO.

Canny Valley gives the feeling of being in the Mojave desert, or the Arizona badlands. It's wide open, but not too open. It's arid and desolate, but with enough civilization to keep it from getting boring game play-wise, or visually speaking.

Some of the randomly generated set pieces are down right stunning when you see them for the first time.

For instance, when you come to the top of a huge canyon below littered with mining camps you can actually descend to and explore. Another one comes to mind that's basically a mini Rio Grande (river) winding it's way through high canyon walls with a small settlement on an island in the center.

It's gets even better at night with the soft glow of lights (torches, flash lights) that give it another worldly feel... Just like deserts in real life.

As someone who appreciates the blending of art and science, Canny Valley continues Epic's long history of creating unique environments that will be talked about from years to come.
