/r/Civ Free Talk Friday - July 06, 2018

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 03:14 AM PDT

Greetings r/Civ.

Hello and welcome to Free Talk Friday, a megathread where everyone can rant, vent, or otherwise express themselves to their heart's content. This is also a place where you can organize your thoughts, or even a party for multiplayer games if you so wish to.

Despite the mostly free of expression, however, we would like to ask you to still follow the rules, mainly:

  • Be polite as much as possible. Don't be rude or vulgar to anyone.
  • Keep your comments civil and as respectful as you can. If you cannot say anything good, please hide and ignore the comment.
  • Memes are allowed in the thread, but Politics and other controversial topics are not permitted to prevent offending certain people.

For other Weekly/Monthly threads, you can now view them here.

After over 300 hours, I can safely say I do not regret a minute.

This game needs Opera Houses.

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 02:58 PM PDT

If you've ever played Russia, chose Divine Spark for your pantheon, or just spammed Theater Square Festivals then you probably know that there are very limited places to stash your mid-game great works of music. This is a problem the Opera House could remedy.

Available at Humanism or Opera and Ballet (whichever best fits) and mutually exclusive with Art and Archaeological Museums, an Opera House could provide a few great work of music slots. Gone would be the days of relying on wonders or waiting for Broadcast Centers just to clear the backlog Great Musicians loitering in your territory.

This is something I'd very much like to see added to the game if and when there is a second expansion (or even via patch).

Is the AI programmed to be as annoying as possible? If so, it's working.

Am I the only person who hates the focus shifting mechanics of civ 6?

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 01:59 PM PDT

Bouncing the screen back and forth, focusing on one task, being asked to command units on different continents... makes it hard to maintain focus on particular goals.

One moment I'm attempting to defend a city (with multiple units on multiple squares), attempting to position each unit appropriately. The next, I'm being asked to tell an Apostle in the middle of the desert on an irrelevant geographical area what to do. Then I'm shifted back to the original task of defending the city but with another unit. Back and forth. The screen is zipping around, annoyingly.

Civ VI: Should Corporations make a comeback?

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 06:44 PM PDT

Hello Yall its SeanNada posting again. While brainstorming more ideas for what should be in civ VI in later DLC I remembered Corporations from Civ IV. Personally I think they would make for a good addition and could really make the economy more dynamic. This comes with alot of questions though such as should they be premade like in Civ IV or should we able to be customize them a bit maybe kinda like religion( would also be kinda funny if you could name them as well). Might also be advantageous to have the option to open them up in other civs and possibly have the option to have them shut down to hurt other civs to essentially kinda have a trade war. Overall what do yall think?

If you don't have mining, you can't build on trees.

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 06:18 PM PDT

I've seen enough of these posts "why can't I build my campus/holy site/commercial hub here", it's usually always no mining. Please check. I'm not mad about it, but y'all need to learn that.

Does anyone have a link for a good tutorial of the original?

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 01:40 PM PDT

I've started playing this, but I can't seem to find any good source for learning the little things like how to hire a Tax Man or exactly what each city resource icon represents. If you have a link to an article or video it would be much appreciated.

Looking to buy a cheap laptop that can meet the Civ Vi requirements to run properly. I heavily prefer windows, and I would prefer the laptop to be around $350 or less.

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 07:58 PM PDT

I tried to do some research, but website I find have people suggesting $500 and $600 laptops. I use to be able to run Civ V on an extremely cheap $150 laptop, so hopefully i can get a cheap one for civ vi. Thanks so much guys.

New to game: Question about multiplayer

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 01:58 PM PDT

So I plan on purchasing civilization today, but wanted to know what multiplayer was. I know you can have a team, but can I play solo multiplayer and be able to face other teams (actual people and not AI). If someone could answer this question I'd appreciate it. Also do people still play Civ 5?

[rant] playing civ 5 with randoms is the worst

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 05:55 PM PDT

recently i've been joining random lobbies and playing civ. For the most part it's alright, but there are some major problems.

Firstly, nobody is willing to commit to a full game. The moment something goes wrong, they leave. There are literally no consequences because unless someone remembers your name and adds you to their friends list, nobody can contact you. This ties into a few other problems.

Another one is that if you disconnect, either on purpose or because of a crash, you can't rejoin the game. Ever. The only way you can is if you're on the friends list of someone in the game, which is unlikely at best.

The worst part of all is that the host gets to do whatever he wants. I was just "framed," so to speak while at war with the host. Basically I was about to wipe him out (hadn't taken any cities, but would have soon,) so he just kicks me. To the other people in the game, i'm pretty sure it looks like I quit like a little bitch, especially if the host made something up. This upsets me to no end.

Let this serve as a warning; play with friends exclusively if you want to get into multiplayer. I haven't explored it much but there are steam groups and discord servers you can meet people on. Otherwise you will probably not have fun.

Why can't I build my commercial hub at the pinned location? As you can see it's not even given as an option.

[CIV 6] I haven't played in a long time and can't get production queue/quick ui to work without breaking game.

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 04:28 PM PDT

Is there an updated production queue/quick ui? I can't select my units when trying to use these mods and it looks like the game has been updated and broke them.

Thanks,

Summer 2018 Developer Update?

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 03:50 PM PDT

It's been two months since the last update, which was released roughly two months after the March update. Was that not a reoccurring thing? Was it only to fix R&F bugs? TBH I haven't really played Civ for about a month now, so I shouldn't be complaining, but I'd still like to see something besides the little Twitter videos pop up.

Civ 6 - How does Papal Primacy interact with Amani?

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 03:45 PM PDT

Has anyone tested how Papal Primacy interacts with the City State Governer?

When you send an Envoy to a City-State it adds 200 Religious pressure to that City-State.

Does Amani apply it when she arrives? Does she maybe apply 400, because she is 2 envoys?

If so, does this work? Lets say I have 3 envoys at the city state already, and she has the Puppeteer upgrade, then she joins them. Now there are 5 envoys, doubled, so I get a total of 10 envoys. Did I just apply 1400 religious pressure in one turn?

If no one else has tested this, I will try it tonight.
