True Dota 2 - Why did Icefrog buff Tiny's Tree Throw Splash damage?

Why did Icefrog buff Tiny's Tree Throw Splash damage?

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 12:18 PM PDT

Right now, his tree throw splash damage is 130% of the base damage. That means if you throw a tree at an enemy, other enemies close to the one you targeted take more damage than the target itself. It was weird when I saw that note, cuz I couldn't figure it out at all. I thought maybe he wants us to use ground targetting instead of point and click, but the target still takes same damage while others take more in both cases. Anyone know why this buff might be significant?

Or is this some random buff Icefrog did to remind us that Tiny is, in fact, a playable hero?

Theorycrafting Mid Gyrocopter (7.17) (Magic Build)

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 04:06 AM PDT

I enjoy desperately trying to make dumpster heroes work. With the recent changes to his level 15 Talent, I genuinely think Gyro is bottom 10 worst heroes in Dota 2 right now.

Because the +0.5 stun duration talent is straight up garbage, Gyro is now forced to take the other level 15 Talent, +11 Q damage. With Veil, your Q now deals upwards of ~1000 damage on a 5 second cooldown.

SKILL BUILD

Nothing changes here. Max Q -> Max E, with value point in W and take Ult whenever we can. The playstyle we are aiming for is to go Mid (RIP Safelane Gyro) and do our usual shenanigans of using our Flak Cannon to push waves and farm camps. Our first 10 minutes should not differ from old mid Gyro playstyle.

Talents -> All the left ones. 200 HP, +Barrage Damage, 25 cd Call down, Global Call Down.

Talent Justification:

200 HP over 20 damage because a) You're going to rely less on your right clicks throughout the game. b) Your early engagements will involve in you getting in melee range A LOT to deal Barrage damage.

+Barrage damage is self explanatory.

25 cd Call Down because again, you will rely less on your right clicks to run at people. Also makes you push out waves without having to use Flak Cannon and your piss poor right clicks.

Global Call Down to synergise with previous talent and Octarine Core. (BASICALLY TINKER)

ITEM BUILD

The usual trifecta -> Aquila, Phase, Wand. We need these three items ASAP to actually function as a midlaner. Emphasis on Phase Boots instead of Treads because we're skipping Drums and we need the movement speed to maneuver in engagements and guarantee Barrage damage.

Here's the biggie -> we're swapping Drums for Veil of Discord. Get the Helm first, then the 2 Nulls. Full Barrage damage + Full Ult damage + autoattacks on a 10 armor target + Veil amp = 2000 DAMAGE.

What comes after Veil is where it gets tricky. If you're a high mmr player, I think BKB is 90% the way to go here, getting it around the 20-25 minute mark where its crucial to not get absolutely steamrolled. Even in low mmr games I think BKB is a comfortable enough item to pick up on Gyro pretty early on as it allows you to transition more safely into the fun stuff ....

Ethereal Blade. Cheaper than Butterfly and gives 40 agility, so it's actually not too bad on your right clicks.

Shiva's Guard. Armor and AOE slow that combos well with your Ultimate.

Octarine Core. Everything Magic Gyro wants, HP, Mana, Sustain, and makes your Barrage 4 second CD and your (Global) Call Down (after level 20 talent) 15 second CD.

Dagon. More burst. Get this only after you've bought E-Blade.

Maelstrom / Mjolnir -> if you can get the time to farm, I feel like it's justifiable to get these items before or after BKB, as it also does magic damage. However I'm not much of a fan of this item on Gyro anymore as it pigeonholes you into "I'M GOING TO STAND STILL RIGHT HERE AND RIGHT CLICK UNTIL EVERYONE (OR I) DIES" mode - which is no longer viable in the late game as a nerfed Gyrocopter.

Linkens or Hurricane Pike. Survivability items against LC/Doom and BKB melee carries, respectively.

OVERALL PLAYSTYLE

Try to play like NoOne during your first ~15 minutes as a mid Gyro.

Basically, if your teammate manages to land a disable on a lone hero, your follow-up magic damage should be able to burst them down. USE YOUR ULTIMATE FOR ALL ENGAGEMENTS.

In teamfights, RELY ON YOUR BKB. When BKB'd, go ham and try to pin down a crucial target with your E-Blade. Ask your position 4 to constantly Urn you.

An Arc Warden buff idea

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 02:05 PM PDT

Temptest Double applies a basic dispel when cast.

Now this hero has been constantly buffed for a while, but nothing that significant except some changes to Magnetic Field. His winrate is still unstable (It hoveres between 44% and 51% everyday), and his pickrate is as low as always. Not only that but his presence in the pro scene is very limited. He only recently saw some signs of life in the Supermajor, where he got picked 5 times with a 60% winrate.

Now I actually just don't understand why his ult doesn't dispel already. It's strange considering other heroes with a similar concept (Naga, CK, PL) already have this dispel. The icing on the cake is Alchemist who got one himself in the last patch.

In terms of mobility and escape Arc Warden is a limited hero. It's understandable, that's one of his weaknesses. Yet in my opinion his ult dispelling would mitigate that without alleviating his weaknesses. Especially considering how vunerable the hero is early on.

Share your thoughts and opinions about this, and if you think it's an imbalanced idea, please give examples of where this could proven to be so unbalanced.

BB Scepter build?

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 09:07 AM PDT

I keep thinking there has to be a way to take advantage of scepter and the +6 goo stacks on BB.

I just wonder if there's a way to build him that includes scepter that's actually useful. And there has to be some heroes it would work with, such as magnus or sven.

I'm thinking phase boots, solar crest into scepter? Maybe a blink or force staff after the scepter?

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 06:17 AM PDT

I'm new so didn't actually get what is exactly pure Damage. I know physical, magical but can't understand pure Damage. As with new update all fears the pure Spears of husker. Meanwhile I didn't even know. So Please tell.

Is it correct to go for low percentage plays when you're considerably behind?

Example: smoke into enemy jungle, smoke into roshan, taking an obvious bait, etc.

Which games in the Super Major are worth reviewing?

Posted: 10 Jun 2018 05:12 PM PDT

Kyle stated at the end of the first Newbee vs VP game that we should watch any of the respective VP players in that game if we want to learn that role. This game might fit the niche of learning how to execute when the game goes almost perfectly, but it's not a good game to learn how to farm when behind, for example. What other games in the supermajor are worth reviewing in order to learn?

Edit: What I think will be the most instructive are where things go terribly wrong for a player or team, but they still manage to do well and win. In one of BSJ's coaching videos with a 5.4k player, he stated that any 5k+ played will probably know what an ideal game for a hero looks like, and can play that ideal game as well as a 6-7k player. However, what those 5k players cannot do as well is identify what to do when the game is different than expected, or not going their way.

Support/utility kunkka build?

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 07:20 AM PDT

I like to go position 4 kunkka, my typical build is

Arc -> disassemble to aether -> phase -> blink/force/sblade, depending on the game -> armlet and transition into core with standard kunkka items

does anyone have a better build that they would recommend?

How to play the lane as Ember?

Posted: 10 Jun 2018 10:30 PM PDT

I've been trying to play more ember again recently and I feel like he is a pretty weak laner, at least before 6. What should I be trying to do? I have a tendency to go too aggressive early.

As a pos1 player, how do you handle dual lane?

Posted: 10 Jun 2018 09:43 PM PDT

I am currently struggling in surviving and farming in safe lane. I keep buying tangoes and salve just to survive and earn exp and drastically lose the game.

How does the matchmaking work after the seasonal rank reset?

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 01:59 AM PDT

Before the reset, I was playing with people around legend-ancient ranks since thats where I am (eventhough I mostly play unrank games). But since the reset, I can't tell what ranks I am playing with since non of them have the medals to show but all I know is the difference in skill set in the games I play now is super horrible. It's like Im playing with heralds and guardians, and I can't really enjoy the game this way.

Edit : My behavior score is Normal (which is surprising cause I do occasionally rage)
