My first colony perished over a break up

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 06:16 PM PDT

My faction- the Syndicate Amigos- were uncomfortably settled in a temperate forest, and was comprised of eight colonists living together in a wooden compound.

Long story short, many of them were incapable of violence, and of all people, my well-equipped hunter was the one to be cheated on, and the ensuing crime of passion left my most adulterous colonist dead and somehow started a fire that spread to the battery reserves. In a gory display, the entire structure went up in flames, killing all but one person, who was left incapacitated on the ground, completely burnt and alone. I stuck around out of curiosity, until she was eventually eaten by timber wolves.

It was a goof, a gaff, a riot, and I LOVE this game. My next colony -The Hemp- is already well underway. Hopefully I learn from my mistakes :)

SO. You want to create a Thunderdome?

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 05:53 PM PDT

I, like many others here want to have a Colosseum for prisoners. Well, while there aren't any mods for this yet I have found a way that has sated my sadistic appetite. It will only require a basic edit of Rimworld's Core folder. The goal of this slight modification is to make it so that you can administer Luci. By doing so you can create death matches between prisoners to which the winner receives more Luci to fuel their addiction and they live another day. If you have read this far I take it you may be curious in creating your own Luci fueled prison pits well, let me help you with these extremely simple instructions.

  1. Navigate to your Rimworld Core Folder and locate your drug defs: C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\Mods\Core\Defs\Drugs
  2. You will now need a program to edit the .xml files listed, I prefer Notepad++.
  3. Locate your Luciferium.xml and open it.
  4. You are going to want to look for <drugCategory>Medical</drugCategory>
  5. Just underneath it copy and paste <nurseable>true</nurseable>.
  6. That's it, whalla! You can now create bills to feed Luci to your Gladiators.
  7. BONUS: Make sure to have the beds of your chosen in your designated fighting pit. Place TVs in front of the Pits with chairs in front of them so that you have an audience. Have fun, I hope you guys enjoy this easy edit as much as I do!

The autist society

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 06:46 PM PDT

i started my new colony and the first 3 colonists had really good stats exept that only one of them could socialize.

no issue for some time, if people came to trade i used her, they didnt had realations between them and there was no hope for a romance whatsoever (she was the only woman).

as the colony started to grow i realized that still, the only one that could even socialize was her (literally everybody was unable to socialize) so one day i had to get some medicines and sent her to trade. the issue was that i had like 4 prisioners and nobody was feeding them (i realized i could have helped them but it was too late) all prisioners died.

after some time (i had like 7 autists and her) i got raided, the fact was that she died and i was like "o fuck this colony is fucked" and it was.

i coudnt recruit any prisioners since the autists didnt had any way to recruit them. i almost coundt buy them (even if i had the money there were only other autistic slaves up for sale and since i didnt had any traders the prices were space high)

i wanted to share this amazing autistic colony of zero social interactions (the socialization tab was almost neutral or negative for anyone)

Tutorial won't let me advance (peaceful colonist won't pick up weapon)

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 10:19 PM PDT

It won't let me advance until all of my colonists pick up a weapon but one of them is pacifist. Is this a glitch?

What is your favorite biome?

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 09:38 PM PDT

And why is it Sea Ice?

Memes aside, what is your favorite biome to play in? Mine so far is probably Boreal Forest. Plenty of wood, tons of easy to hunt meat, and a decent bit of geysers.

Is there a persistent world mod?

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 11:29 AM PDT

I'd really like to be able to play where the game has a persistent world where I can visit destroyed colonies or be at war with past ones.

I can't believe it all worked out!

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 10:00 AM PDT

I'm a new player, about 30 hours in. Playing on Phoebe, some challenge. Just kinda getting the swing of things.

I really enjoyed my last (failed, of course) colony in a mountain base, so I started a colony in a mountainous region, with caves. The place where I spawned was surrounded with caves, three of which had hives and megaspiders. Only one cave very close, but I really liked my colonists' traits, and said "Screw it," and tried to make the best of it.

Doing well. Made an area around the cave entrance and invereted it, so colonists would avoid it. Still, every so often, I'd see one of my guys cowering against a rock or something, after going too close. Once, I found the megaspider in my goddamn stockpile area. Almost crapped myself, but everyone was asleep, it was fine.

Still, this morning I said, "Man, that spider is ultimately going to be the death of me if I can't get to decent weaponry."

Then it happened. A very large caravan, about 10-12 people, came to trade. I traded a little, and noticed one of their guys taking long-distance potshots at one of the spelopedes near the cave entrance. I immediately paused, drafted everyone, and sent them inside the main bunker, and just waited.

Sure enough, within a couple of in-game hours, the spider and a bunch of spelopedes came out and engaged the caravan. Three caravaneers died, and one was injured, but all of the critters were killed. I ran in and killed the unattended hive, and got a glow pod, a ton of insect jelly, and all the crap that the dead caravaneers dropped, including some food and decent weapons.

A really cool mod idea.

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 07:12 AM PDT

So I got this idea for a mod. Imagine if you can force your prisoners to fight against each other gladiator style! Not only force them but make like an arena where your colonists can watch and get entertained. (ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?) and the mod should like allow you to equip your prisoners with certain melee weapons and armor so you can have cooler, bloodier fights to the death. Another idea is that colonists with bloodlust gets a good mood boost watching it and prisoners with that trait gets a mood boost for participating. Wouldn't that be a kick ass mod? I don't know if it exists or not, but let me know what you think!

Anyone remember the zombie mod?

I really miss that one. Swarms of zombies outside. Gotta kill them out before fps kills your game. Outbreaks in your colony.

How do you survive on an ice sheet?

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 09:15 AM PDT

I don't usually ask for help when it comes to things like this because I like to figure it out on my own, but how the hell do you survive on an ice sheet? You would have to research hydroponics and have the materials to build them, not enough food or resources. I figured out extreme deserts on my own and now this is my last challenge in the game.

EMP

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 04:30 PM PDT

The Red Dawn troop carrier vessel was approaching sector U-159. It was a small ship, roughly a hundred and fifty passengers. A hundred and fifty elite souped-up PMCs that were sent to this RimWorld as mercenary fighters.

Admiral Bogey looked out of the window panel in the ship's bridge. Bogey… not a very fitting name for a young and ambitious military commander and a literal killing machine, is it? Still, this was her call sign from the beginning of her career as a PMC spaceship pilot. Getting up the ranks was just a matter of time for her, as she was rumored to be the best pilot in the whole corps. This was considered to be a quiet task for her, practically a vacation trip. That's why she chose to wake up from cryptosleep a bit earlier and enjoy the trip in real time. The soldiers should be waking up in an hour to get in shape and ready for the drop.

The ice-cold star looked beautiful from space, she thought, sipping coffee from a cup. Suddenly, something visibly big left the atmosphere of the RimWorld. It was a rocket. One huge fucking rocket, she thought. Who uses those things anyways?! We have spaceships now, rockets became obsolete millennia ago! She watched the unidentified object move through space at extreme velocities, not so far from the ship, but not within her laser cannons' targeting distance. Then, it headed back to the planet... weird. The comms console began to explode with colorful warnings. Bogey ran to it and began reading the messages.

"The fuck is an 'ICBM' ?!"- She thought, hearing about this unknown termin for the first time in her life: "Well, shit, the rim's full of weird weapon technologies, nothing special, just a huge bomb."

The moment she returned to her stargazing spot, a huge explosion enveloped the ground under the ship. Bogey screamed and grabbed her eyes, melting because of the blast's luminescence. The control panels began to shut off one by one, as the Admiral reached into her pocket, took out a healer mech serum and jabbed it right into her right eye. She could partially see again, but she didn't like what she saw. Whatever that thing was, it EMP'd the whole fucking ship and it was now losing its orbit stability. To the sound of ripping metal and to the cries of the young Admiral, the uncontrollable ship gained speed and headed for the planet. Bogey ran for the airlock, but, unfortunately for her, the bridge lost its hermetic seal due to a breach in the hull, turning every organic matter in the room into pink mist.

The Red Dawn crashed into a mountainside, far from the nuclear blast. She had impaled itself by the belly on top of a small mountain and the debris began to roll down the hill. Then, the antimatter reactor exploded, creating a sizable crater in the mountain. No survivors... except for that teenage janitor! Her crappy cryptopod somehow landed in the trees during the crash, must have fallen out of the storage bay.

Pinkie, the janitor, was now the only survivor of the 627th company.

Haven't been raided in ages

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 08:55 PM PDT

Anyone know if a mod could break the story teller and/or stop me from being raided? I haven't got anything really drastic installed, just about 20 pretty trivial mods like allowtool and quality builder etc, the most game altering is probably RBSE, yet I haven't been raided in ages. (NB I still have a pirate faction who hates me)

Elk herd from hell

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 07:55 PM PDT

I'm 36 hours into my first colony. I have eleven colonists and six of them with decent weaponry. I got a notification for an elk heard passing through and thought "screw it, how hard can it be to kill some elk?". I line up my six shooters at a spot where they'd have the elk in their sights and begin the shooting. Almost immediately they all started to swarm and I knew I messed up. The elk took three of my best fighters down right off the bat. I was in damage control sending my settlers through doors into the base to wait for the herd to clear out and save the injured. I thought I was safe. The plan was working until the elk started destroying my doors and seeking their revenge. I was moving the colonists through every door until I had no choice but to call in reinforcements from other tribes. Three tribes later two of their people were dead and some unconscious but we were victorious. I love this game.

"Ancient Danger" Help

Posted: 15 Jun 2018 05:16 PM PDT

I bought Rimworld the other day and I'm currently on my third colony. With the world spawn, there seems to be a lot of unexplored ruins that state "Ancient Danger" inside of them. Should I wait until later game before opening these? Or are these something I can open early game/right at the start?

Also, any extra tips on surviving in general would be appreciated too! :)
