If you say “gg” before the core’s at 0%, you’re the worst player on the team
Posted: 11 Jun 2018 05:30 AM PDT
I can't count how many times someone's said "gg" while the game obviously had enough time left for a comeback.
You could have the most stats in everything, the least deaths, and have most time played. But the second you decide that a loss is inevitable, you're officially the worst player on the team. That's because your bad attitude negatively affects your teammates, who may have otherwise played harder had one of their players not decided to give up early.
Just don't do it. You look dumb if your team ends up winning anyway and you look dumb if you lose because you made that loss more possible. Just say nothing OR say "there's still time, let's turn it around." It isn't hard.

TLDR at the bottom of each section.
After always floating around high platinum/low diamond, I've finally managed to climb to Masters! It took 361 games, with a 53% winrate overall. My winrate with supports is sitting at 55% with 310 games, but I've recently decided to only play four supports that I've found success with. These four supports have winrates around 60%.
TLDR: Deciding to concentrate on select supports that I have 60%-ish winrates with is how I climbed.
General Ranked Thoughts:
For me, climbing high diamond was significantly easier than climbing low diamond. I bounced between diamond 3 promotion and diamond 5 demotion at least 3-4 times, yet never was I demoted from diamond 1 nor 2. It only took me a week to climb from diamond 2 to masters, yet to get from diamond 5 to diamond 2 it took months. I expected games to become harder as I reached my "skill cap," yet it was significantly easier.
In addition, people care about meta picks far too much. Comfortable picks > meta picks. Someone playing Murky with a 65% (ranked) winrate has far more value than someone playing Greymane with a 30% winrate. If you have a real concern (such as: no ranged damage) mention that rather than saying "no murky."
If you're looking to climb, I suggest focusing on 3-4 heroes that statistically show you are doing well with them. It doesn't matter if you feel great on Genji if you have a 33% winrate over 20+ games. Maybe he's super underpowered, maybe your teammates don't understand your playstyle. The reasoning doesn't matter if the results are all the same; just pick a different hero or practice more. You should still have some backup heroes for alternate roles (especially if you main assassin). Communicate roles you are not comfortable with.
TLDR: Climbing low diamond is harder than high diamond, comfort picks > meta picks, and focus on playing 3-4 heroes with some additional heroes to fill with.
Support Specific Thoughts:
Disclaimer: Please remember this based on my experience and opinion. I'd be happy to elaborate on any of the following details further, but for now, I don't want to make the post much longer.
Brightwing - (53/86 | 61.6%): I have 850+ games with Brightwing and love playing her. Despite the general consensus, Brightwing is in an excellent position right now. Her builds are semi-flexible, but she does need to be picked in favorable drafts. She's great vs spell damage, damage over time, in a dive comp, versus a dive comp, specific maps, or for macro needs. Ideally, you want to check 2+ of these conditions - which isn't too hard. She is a mid-game hero and kicks off around level 7/10. I can talk your ear off about her, but I'll stop here.
Alexstrasza - (36/59 | 61.0%): Alex is a niche pick. Pick her on the right map and the right draft and you become a terror. I've also noticed that she feels very "feast or famine" - either games go extremely well or horribly. She needs to be in an aggressive comp that can force fights, and ideally ask your teammates to arrive at the objectives early. Dragonqueen almost guarantees the objective unless you're forced to pop it early and/or if they can disengage to wait it out. Never use DQ in a situation that isn't game changing if that means you won't have it for the objective. Losing an early team fight - where death timers are short - is fine. The objective should provide more value than 1-2 deaths and a teammate's hurt ego.
Stukov - (25/42 | 59.5%): A solid generalist pick; however, you should take more consideration of the map. Maps with lots of chokeholds and predictable positioning are excellent for him. Try to pick him in an aggressive comp; he's not terrible dealing with dive but his real potential shines when you can use your abilities to isolate a pick. Also, lurking arm is not the only viable build - so don't be afraid to branch out!
Malfurion - (26/41 | 63.4%): Malf is a great generalist hero and quite meta right now. He's a safe first pick and fits in almost any comp. I mostly pick him when I'm first pick (which I hate) and if the map favors him (Ex: Tomb, Volskaya). He is my go-to "nothing else fits" support.
Deckard - (5/10 | 50%): To be honest, I'm still practicing Deckard. I don't feel terrible with him, but I also don't feel as fine-tuned as the above heroes. I do know Deckard can be quite the terror and that he has a terrific kit/talent choices. Should any of the above supports get the nerf-hammer, I plan to replace them with Deckard.
I've also played a handful of games with Auriel, Morales, Li Li, Uther, and Lucio. While I feel each of these heroes have great niches, I personally haven't found success with them this season. Each of these heroes either plays a little passive or they significantly depend on the rest of the team playing well. Most of them do have game-changing abilities, but I find the other heroes provide more influence.
TLDR: Many, if not all, of the current supports are viable for HL. Some just require picking in specific situations and others need to "click" with the player.
*Edit: * I talk about some of my builds in these comments:

If I say "glhf :)" at the start of the game, I am the best player on the team
Posted: 11 Jun 2018 02:44 PM PDT
I can't count how many times I said "glhf :)" while the game obviously had enough time left to make me want to kill myself. I may not have the most stats in everything, the least deaths, or most time played. But the second I decide that good sportsmanship in a MOBA is inevitable, I am officially the best player on the team. That is because my good attitude positevely affects my teammates, who may have otherwise fed had I not decided to cheer them up. Just do it. You look smart if your team ends up winning anyway and you look smart if you lose because you made that loss less frustrating. Never stop spreading positivity, say stuff like "there's still time, lets turn it around". It isn't hard.

As someone with a year long stim and a regular loot box purchaser we need to talk.
Posted: 11 Jun 2018 01:32 PM PDT
When 2.0 first came out I was very pleased with the change in the system.
I have no qualms about spending money on loot boxes to gamble away at the chance for new items.
I bought 52 boxes for every single event and only started to see a drop in value around the Lunar event.
It's mostly that I have a lot of items now so I mostly get shards.
But it is also the simple fact that there is now 2 years or more worth of items for each special loot box event.
The gamble was ok when I didn't have a lot of items as each 52 got me the in between event skins and those I never owned pre 2.0 to begin with.
But as you start to have more and more items it's not fun to open loot boxes you pay for tbh.
Nexomania was the first event that I bought the bundles instead of my usual 52 loot boxes and I was rewarded greatly.
Reading about most other users they didn't get too much when they spent money on loot boxes.
Having loot boxes that were purchased have a guaranteed rare was a great start.
I think we are at the point where loot crates purchased with real money need to have item protection on them as well.
This makes them a viable purchase vs the bundle for these types of events.
I preferred to gamble on loot boxes vs buying the bundles as it's fun to see what you get.
As it stands I'm considering not ever buying loot crates again due to the fact that they are less fun.

Ok, need some help here from warcraft fans. Why is Yrel so damn happy?. Like, she's absurdly happy. 95% of portraits in HotS have the heroes serious, angry or with a very faint smile, same as the models, even the likes of Lunara who seems playful is depicted serious.
The only ones who smile like maniacs are literal maniacs like Brightwing and Junkrat, and not even Junkrat smiles that much, brigthwing is also from a weird species so who knows what she's doing, if she has other expressions even.
Enter Yrel, this girl smiles so much, she's so damn happy all the time. She smiles in her resting model, she smiles in the trailer and she's got the biggest happiest smiles of all in the splash art. Just why!? what's the deal with her!?
Isn't she supposed to be one of those warcraft heroes, a paladin, and aren't those guys pompous and solemn knights? Uther seems every solemn at least and so does Arthas on his paladin skin. Yrel? nope, Yrel has to laugh and act like she's a big deal.
Speaking of being a paladin, WTF, WHY? aren't those like angelic holy warriors?, this girl has horns, hooves and a effin tail, she's pretty much a biblical demon. She also seems really into the Alliance, was she converted to the light by them? that's why she loves the Alliance so much?.
Also she has hooves, horns a tail and tentacles!? are those tentacles in her face WTF. All heroes are angry and unhappy because they have to spend eternity killing each other for the amusement of lord realms and this psychopath is just laughing at it all.
WTH is the deal with her?

Blizz balance team: Can someone shed some light on the current state of Artanis?
Posted: 11 Jun 2018 07:34 PM PDT
I think many, if not most, will agree with me that Artanis has been in a weird spot since release, due to his somewhat different/unique Warrior kit. December 2016 finally brought about the swap rework that many of us Artanis fanatics were praying for since he entered the Nexus - a change that at last, made him seem like the relevant (dominant even) Warrior fitting for his lore. Unfortunately, that period of glory was quite short-lived, as after being heavily prioritized by regions like NA with sub-par results, he dropped out of the meta, falling back into his BoE one-trick niche at the highest levels of play. And now, with all the newer changes to the game, we don't even see him played on BoE (he hasn't been seen even once this MSB). Even players like H82, who made legendary, jaw-dropping plays on Artanis stopped picking him in favour of more "meta" picks like Blaze and Sonya.
With Artanis being my best, and most played hero by a huge margin, I still think he's one of the best Bruisers in the game. From what I've gathered from the pros, he's actually mostly seen to have a strong kit - only to be gimped in a few areas, which makes him much less contested than other solo laners / off-tanks. Those two areas are waveclear and damage, and they do go hand-in-hand.
For waveclear, I think it's long been a consensus at the highest levels of play that Artanis simply does not offer enough waveclear to give his team a rotational advantage in the laning phase. It takes much longer for him to reliably clear a wave than, say, heroes with much higher aoe damage like Leo, Blaze, and Sonya. The only time where he can come close is if he takes Solarite Reaper, but that talent comes at lvl 7, quite late in the laning phase. Add that to the relatively long cd of his Q (10s), his only aoe ability, compared to Leoric's Q (7s if it hits a Hero) + aoe aas, and Sonya's Whirlwind (5s) and, well...you get the picture.
He's got some of the highest siege/merc/bossing/objective damage in the game with Amateur Opponent, but unfortunately that does not make up for his lack of waveclear.
In teamfights, his Q also has very little threat to enemies outside of the potential for a great swap unless you go for the Q build. Compared to the popular Bruisers in the meta, outside of the swap, he puts relatively little pressure on enemies due to his low burst damage. Here I do want to clarify something - I know Artanis isn't meant to be a burst hero. He's meant to stand his ground and outlast his opponents, but I feel his current level of damage simply doesn't threaten his enemies enough until the late game, and that's if you go for the Triple Strike -> Titan Killer build (which I feel is overrated - you get more value for the team as a whole out of his utility talents at those tiers). I feel like he just needs a bit more threat value in terms of damage.
Damage and waveclear, as I mentioned earlier, can go in tandem. Basically, Q needs to do more damage. Additionally, being so reliant on aas, some kind of questing talent that gives him extra attack speed (that is more reliable than Chrono Surge), or something that allows him to reduce the cd of his W with his aas within a certain time frame, would do wonders for him in my opinion.
During the last major QnA, the devs said they have "no current plans" for Artanis. In light of the current state of the game, however, I think many of us Artanis fans would be delighted to hear any kind of thoughts from the team regarding just what state Artanis is in, or just what kind of Bruiser he is "meant to be".

Too many times an ally is low on health nearby a minion. I try to heal them only to accidentally sacrifice 15% of my health to heal a fucking minion whos in front of them for a whopping 10 HP.
Can Gift of Life targeting please be disabled for minions? Why would I ever willingly give 15% of my HP for a minion?

Remove Tychus' minigun duration/healing antisynergy
Posted: 11 Jun 2018 03:07 AM PDT
Previously [[In The Rhythm]] and [[That's The Stuff!]] had a synergy that was arguably too good, since you were gaining health healing while doing damage with minigun. Then TTS was changed to give heal only after minigun expired, meaning that the longer it lasts, the more delayed heal will be.
Make it so that lifesteal is capped to 3 seconds (baseline duration) after activating minigun. This would allow for ITR to be picked alongside TTS without affecting other level 4 talents.

Blizzard can you let Murky spray when he is in his bubble please?
Posted: 11 Jun 2018 07:23 PM PDT
I would just love to be able to do circles around somebody and spray while I heal up and wait for slime to come off cool down so I can kill them.
Or spray them as I bubble away from their long cd ability.

How to be Toxic in Heroes of the Storm [Satire]
Posted: 11 Jun 2018 05:16 PM PDT
So a mistake happened. Maybe it was a bad play call. Maybe someone was caught out in the open and died needlessly. Doesn't matter. The important thing is, the enemy team now has a temporary advantage and you're not happy about it. So what do you do? Obviously you act like a toxic asshole (are there even any other options)? Let's break it down -
Were you the cause of the mistake and/or are you even partially to blame?
Yes - Doesn't matter. Deny all fault, make excuses, and get extremely defensive if anyone says anything, even if it's not directed towards you in particular. In those cases where it's exceptionally clear that it's your fault, misdirect the conversation and try to change the subject to point out the faults in your other teammates' play.
No - Immediately call out the person/people who are at fault. Terms like "noob," "feed," "throws," and "brainless" are exceptionally effective here.
So what next? Double down on whatever previous step you took.
Still making excuses and trying to project your own shortcomings onto your teammates? Great, keep going until the rest of your team has lost their patience with you and, at this point, threaten to AFK. Continuously spam "this team gg"
Was it someone else's fault? Continuously harass them for the rest of the game. Even if your team, by some miracle, manages to turn things around and win the game, continue the harassment well into the victory screen. Whisper the person and harass them one more time, then block them before they can respond
Some pro-tips to be a pro troll:
- Are you ranked higher than whoever you're arguing with? Call them a bad player and say "this is why you're stuck at X rating"
- Are you ranked lower than whoever you're arguing with? Go with Ad Hominem attacks on their character, even if your insults are irrelevant to the game. Call them a "basement dweller," loser, or something along the lines of a nerd or virgin (or get creative and combine the two... nergin)
- Change your "Social" settings to "Only Friends can send me messages" so no one can respond to your harassment via private chat
- Make completely illogical plays that further damage your team's chances of winning
- Racism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, and threats of violence are all highly encouraged
- Your mindset should be "if I'm not personally having fun, then no one else on my team can have fun and I'm going to make sure of that"
- Remember, it's all about you and if your teammates can't handle that then they can go fuck themselves because you're special and you're the only one that matters
- Is someone else threatening to report you for your abhorrent behavior? Spam that you're going to report them first and then actually report them for verbal abuse even if they haven't said anything truly verbally abusive (as an added bonus, the game will automatically block them)
I'm sure I've missed some pointers, but you all get the idea. Have fun being assholes in the Nexus :)

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 03:29 AM PDT
I see people now saying they will save shards and not spending in Nexusmania so they can do so for the new Warcraft event. This event is not seasonal, meaning the items will be available forever, unlike the ones in the Nexusmania (you'll have to wait a full year for those again).
So feel free to get Nexusmania stuff todaya since you can always get those new Warcarft items later.
