What is your opinion of the gaming community on Reddit? Posted: 27 Jun 2018 07:26 AM PDT We all know that Reddit != real life, but with the outrage over the customisation options in BFV, I'm curious as to how many people outside of that sub actually care? What is your view of the reaction to the backlash against EA/DICE? Do your gaming friends outside of Reddit usually, hold similar opinions to those that frequent gaming subs? Also, do you subscribe to the subreddits of specific games you're playing? And do you find yourself agreeing with Reddit's stance on any one game? [link] [comments] |

What makes a good puzzle game? Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:48 AM PDT So, lately I've been playing two puzzle games that are pretty much recommended all around: The Talos Principle and The Witness. In terms of design, they're pretty similar: An open world in which you can take the puzzles in any order you like (even though Talos is a bit more limited in this sense). Of course, the ideal would be for you to follow an "expected" order so you can feel the puzzles going from pretty easy to insanely hard, but it is up to you. So far, I've been loving both of them. The Witness seems VERY simple at the beginning, with it's presumable easier line puzzles, but I'm on a point that I have to think for a couple of minutes before even starting to draw a line. In Talos, things are way differently. Instead of a 2d board, you have to work with the environment. You have to understand how the drones and machine guns and other "enemies" work out and figure out a way to solve everything. For my tastes, at least for know, Talos is offering a better experience, and if keeps this level of challenge (and considering that the DLC Road To Gehenna is known for being extremely hard, I think it will). But something that I love in both of them and makes them both memorable for me is the sense of accomplishment that I get when I solve a puzzle. In Portal 2, which was my gold standard for puzzle games so far, I had a lot of moments when I was just searching for the white wall to shoot my portals and nothing else. So, after a couple of hours (mainly, after you get out of the test chambers), it seems that the game wants to limit you somehow. I hear a lot about the Myst series but haven't played any of them (tried the first one but was shamefully unable to get out of the first island). After I finish Talos and Witness, I'm pretty sure I'll give it a try and see if age made me better in the sense of solving puzzles. Fez is another one I'm very willing to try soon, even though I get a bit discouraged because for what I read, there are some optional puzzles that require knowledge out of the game and that it's pretty much impossible to get 100% on the game without guides. So, a tl;dr, is that for me, a good puzzle game must offer a good challenge, which will satisfy the player when he solves it. I'd love to hear some opinions on the subject! [link] [comments] |
