Hello everyone,

It's been over 24 hours since the release of Elite Dungeons, a lot has happened and there's a lot we'd like to discuss with you.

Launch & Issues

It goes without saying we're incredibly proud of Elite Dungeons, we've enjoyed seeing the creative content that's come out of the release plus the videos and streams that players have done. We ourselves have been diving in-game during our lunches to do some runs!

However, we were alert to issues that have come up (in chronological order), I'll go into detail on each of these issues below and what we've done, with this you can see how responsive we've been to fixing issues coming up.

Issues hotfixed

  • Correcting the duo-mode Elite Dungeon player checks (Hotfixed)
    • This was an absolute pain, in Elite Dungeons we use a system that transmits data back and forth between you and your group, sadly in Duo mode there was an incredibly odd state accounts could get themselves into corrupting the progress but giving the wrong messaging to you.
  • Items spawned when a dungeon is created are now visible to all players, rather than just the group leader (Hotfixed)
    • Luckily this only affected the already pre-generated loot in the Dungeon, sadly, the wrong command to drop an item was used.
  • Double KC sometimes happening (Hotfixed)
    • This happened on rare occasions where you'd be awarded two kills has been fixed!
  • Ironmen can now receive the unique drops from the elite dungeon bosses without dealing over 50% of the damage(Hotfixed)
    • The first of our Ironman issues, this affected Ironmen receiving the boss pet, Masuta's Warspear, etc. We've now returned items lost to this bug to affected Ironman.
  • Rare drops now drop to the loot chest (Hotfixed)
    • In retrospect this should have been in the update from the start, now anytime you receive a unique/rdt drop it'll go straight to the loot chest.
  • Mitigate damage from bosses when players are outside the boss area (Hotfixed... or so we thought)
    • We deployed a hotfix last night to stop players being hit outside the boss area... or so we thought we did! The hotfix didn't deploy to the game worlds so this was an issue that then persisted overnight :(
  • Stop all Gorajo cards being destroyed when one is used (Hotfixed)
    • This was a nasty bug, let's face it who likes their Gorajo cards being destroyed... this was hotfixed but sadly introduced another bug which I'll cover below
  • Redeployed the Mitigate damage fix, as it hadn't applied to the live game worlds (Hotfixed)
    • As mentioned above, we thought the mitigation fix was in... it wasn't, so was redeployed, at the time of writing this post I've seen some players still having this bug at the bosses so we'll have to take another crack at it.
  • Gorajo cards being used without being lost (Hotfixed)
    • Caused by the earlier Gorajo hotfix this was addressed ASAP.
  • Ensure all Ironmen can receive loot in an elite dungeon (Hotfixed)
    • The Ironmen fix to allow them to receive unique drops introduced a bug which meant that loot only went to one Ironman in your group, this was a pain in the backside to track down and fix, but this has now been hotfixed.
  • Make solo mode Seiryu more rewarding (Hotfixed)
    • This is addressed and talked about in the Ancients Scales & Solo Mode section

Issues we need to fix

  • "dummy" items appearing on the Grand Exchange
    • We can't hotfix this one, but we have seen posts on players seeing what we call "dummy" items on the Grand Exchange, these are just placeholder so we'll be removing them for the next game update.
  • Adding "extra" drops to the chest
    • This would include the following objects, Charms, Effigies, Mimic Tokens & Spirit Gems
  • Typo sweep
    • Any typos, bugged to us for example "I have obtained yet to obtain the Kuroryu pet" will be addressed
  • Boss attacks still hitting you outside the arena
    • This is still an issue as outlined above in the intial hotfix, we're investigating
  • Killcounts not incrementing in some occasions
    • This is a pain as you wouldn't want your kills to not increase of course, we're looking into fixing this when possible.

Ancient Scales & Solo Mode

Ancient Scales are the primary ingredient needed to upgrade your Sirenic Chaps and Mask from Tier 90 to Tier 92, we've seen feedback of the buy limit for Ancient Scales (2 per 4 hours) being way too low, and we agree, for the next game update we're going to increase the Ancient Scale buy limit to 20 per 4 hours, then a week after that raise it to 100 per 4 hours, the reason for the steady increase is to incentivize you to continue to gain scales in Elite Dungeons instead of buying your way to a T92.

Solo is the hardest challenge for Elite Dungeons, and we want to make sure you're rewarded appropriately, yet it was still possible to only receive a single ancient scale for your efforts. As a result we've just hotfixed the following change:

  • You'll be guaranteed six Ancient Scales if you defeat Seiryu in solo mode. The average number of scales for a solo kill is actually quite a bit higher and will remain the same, but upping the lower bound will remove the disappointment of only receiving a single scale drop.

I also want to take this time to mention we'll be tweaking the mechanics of solo mode Seiryu, as you may have seen kills can take from anywhere between 17 - 40 minutes just for Seiryu himself, due to your feedback we're going to be making the following change to reduce that time a little.

Note: This change hasn't been made/hotfixed yet, once it has been I'll update this post and we'll inform you all accordingly

  • Reduce the Crystals health in the Seiryu solo fight to 150k, the Crystals in duo mode will now have 200k health, previously these had 250k lifepoints across solo, duo and group

We are aware of a plethora of additional changes we could make to ease the solo experience but we don't wish to go overboard just yet.


So yeah, in a nutshell... that's where we're at 24 hours after the release, we'll continue to monitor and adjust the Temple of Aminishi where possible but most of all we hope you're all enjoying it!

Scheduled sticky changes

We're going to be making some changes to our scheduled stickies you see regularly on the subreddit based on recent activity and feedback. We think these posts provide good opportunities for discussion while simultaneously allowing people to make comments without devoting it to an entire new submission.

Some of these changes will be on a trial basis to see how they perform and can be tweaked later on. Definitely give us feedback on any of these changes.

Clan Saturday

We've decided to discontinue Clan Saturday posts based on recent activity and usage. You are still able to utilize the Clan list and other more used sources to find clans such as the official forums if you so wish.

Weekend Group Finder

This is a brand new scheduled post you will begin seeing starting every Friday and into Saturday. Use this post to find players looking for individuals for group activities such as raids, bossing, minigames, the new Elite Dungeons or anything else. Similarly, use this post to advertise youself to other groups.

We will be monitoring this specific post over the next few weekends to judge activity and whether it's worth keeping. So use it if you think you'll benefit!

Monday Update Feedback

This will be another new scheduled post to be made right after every Monday update, Use this to discuss, raise issues, and/or give feedback on the latest update. Perhaps you want to discuss something that isn't quite deserving of it's own submission, and this will be the perfect place to do so.

Rant Wednesday

This is a new monthly thread on the first Wednesday of the month that gives you all the reason to vent, rant, and express your complaints, concerns, or comments regarding anything you want with RuneScape. Constructive or not, this is your excuse to rant. This is your time to say what's on your mind, but don't forget the subreddit rules!

Silly Question Sunday & ProTip Tuesday

We will be changing Silly Question Sunday and Pro Tip Tuesday to be bi-weekly instead of weekly, with them alternating each week. This is to offset the volume of stickies to be introduced by the new schedule.

Take the rewards from BH and throw them into Elite dungeon 2.

Between Solak and Elite Dungeons the encounters alone are very well done. They're very engaging and mechanically are interesting. Figuring out how to kill Solak on release was the most fun I had on release for a boss ever.

Being a month out on that boss everybody has figured out how to kill it and all the fun from its initial experience has worn off. In a game like RuneScape where what incentivizes players to continue the grind is the rewards we are hitting a stale spot. Unfortunately it seems that the high end PvM community are unhappy with these updates overall and this stems from the fact that people don't have a reason to grind them apart from completing a log or re-obtaining IFB. Similarly this is what's happening with Elite Dungeons as well.

To put it simply the reward table is not thought through enough for the system Jagex has with very few BIG PvM updates. This system relies on the community coming together and grinding it out until the next big update. The problem with the updates so far for 2018 is the players don't want to grind these updates as the rewards aren't there. I really think the J-Mods should reevaluate the drop tables/item effects of current drops to make the uniques more useful.

Specifically I don't understand why Erethdors Grimoire, a 2018 end game boss reward, is the equivalent of a enhanced excalibur for prayer. This could literally be a slayer monster rare drop and nobody would think it is out of place. I assume this drop was going to be the range ultimate 4taa replacement ability and since that was scrapped this is what the result was. This drop had the potential to be the praesul codex of Solak but it missed the mark.

With Elite Dungeons, why is there no set effect for the t92 Sirenic? The marginal damage bonus you get from the upgrade really in my opinion is not enough of an upgrade to justify all the development work that went into the update. I don't see the Ancient Scales holding their value for very long with them in the current state. And the fact that all future PvM content for 2018 being more of the same just kills the hype months before release.

Some ideas for changes that could help with this (and I'd like your suggestions in the comment) include:

  1. Erethdors Grimoire: Increase the effectiveness of your prayers by 2% for 1 minute on top of its current prayer ee effect.

  2. Elite Sirenic: Has a 1% chance per piece to reset the cooldown on basic abilities.

I really think Jagex needs to rework these rewards if they want to keep the PvM community happy and willing to play their content for the months/years to come until we get new content that fills their spots.

[Ninja Request] Make the Elf Lands mushroom patch immune to disease at some level of the Elf Lands achievement diary

It makes no sense that the Canifis patch is made immune with its diary, the wilderness bloodweed patch is made immune with its diary, but the Elf Lands patch is still subject to disease even when you have finished the elite diary...

Any form of communication with your community, reddit is filled with advises and criticism, please use it. At least communicate things like "screw off, no time for this", "ok maybe some day", "lol no that`s retarded".

Any communication is better than none at this point. Just browsing through last reddit pages, some open topics.

  • Diversity of weapons = 0 atm
  • Combat triangle is dull and mage still overthrows everything
  • Melee disadvantage repeated
  • Sirenic needs colour adjustements and 0.08% damage increase for 400m (for 50 hours) is a joke.
  • Drops from the newest content are dull and long-term discouraging
  • MTX left without any progression communication
  • New weaponry from Elite Dungeons is flawed (spear is crap, darts cant be augmented, also please revert to my first point).

Please communicate for sake of your player base, it's the least you can do without addressing the issues directly anyway. The only posts where J-mod is replying, is something supposedly funny, or saying thank you to praising of the content. I do understand the complaining posts are hard to swallow, yet these are the ones where you can grow the most.

What's the point of the invention skill, an "ELITE" skill... when you never add new components? Seriously... "ELITE DUNGEONS" what a missed opportunity for new niche perks... I would love to see this content added!

At least one rare component from the Spears.

I haven't had this much fun with my friends in a long long while playing runescape. Coming from someone who loves bd and Diablo this was such a cool add to another game I love. The bosses are cool and simple once learned and the ability to clear levels without re spawning gives it the authentic du geon crawler feel. All in all I just really like it, no complaints other than the kc receive issue, absolutely love and hope the next release is a bit more challenging. Woooo!

After 11 years of playing, I finally got my 1st Corp Beast solo kill!

I realise most of you probably consider Corp a pushover, but to me he's always been a challenge I just never managed to beat... until today. I managed the kill with 74/70/80/87 attack/strength/defence/hp, using full Guthan's, blood amulet of fury and Vampyrism aura
