In Fallout 4, the quest "Blind Betrayal" could have been named "I'm Never Gonna Danse Again". But it wasn't.

Todd Howard is hosting a Q&A on June 12th, 7pm EST at The Coliseum

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 08:53 AM PDT

Just wanted to throw this out there. He will be answering questions from the fans and the audience. I hope this is an opportunity to clarify some of the things about Fallout 76 (modding, NPCs, story, etc.)

The questions will exclusive be from the fans and the audience, so it will be by us for us. I'm sure the questions will be good and get him to reveal a bit more about what is going on in this game.

This will be a streamed event. You can watch this on Mixer, Twitter, YouTube, and Twitch.

Private, moddable lobbies confirmed for Fallout 76.

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 12:14 PM PDT

Time stamped VOD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPWDwBrUNyY&t=26m40s

Todd Howard just confirmed during this interview that you they are 100% fully committed to bringing mods to their games, including Fallout 76. This will not be available at launch, but once it is added you'll be ale to set up private, modded lobbies.

It sounds like you will not be able to take mods into public lobbies (for obvious reasons).

"We love mods. So we are 100% committed to doing that in 76 as well. We will not be able to do that at launch, though. Our goal at launch -- this is really new for us -- is have a well-running, robust service. And then some period later (we're still currently designing what that service looks like), you'll be able to have your own private world, and be able to mod it, and do all of that. With our games, we think that's where the long-term life of them really is... that is trickier when you get into an online world, but we are definitely committed to it, it just won't be at launch."

EDIT: Typically there is a few month gap between the game's launch and official mod support with BGS. There is no talk about if that gap will be the same amount of time as usual or if it will be longer, but they said the immediate launch window will be about getting everything up and running correctly. This sounds fair enough to me.

EDIT 2: VATS was also confirmed. It is in real time and designed for players who aren't so good at twitch shooting to be able to have the game fire for them, but it doesn't slow down time. Makes sense and sounds good to me, especially if you still get the DR buff when using VATS to line up your shots.

I will update this post with time stamps and the full quote when the VOD is available.

My Notes from Todd Howard Interview (Fallout 76)

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 12:26 PM PDT

-Fallout 76 has more people working on it now than Bethesda has ever had on a project

-There is a quest line

-Still sounds like there are no human NPCs, and any NPCs will be robots

-Every character you see will be another real person

-They're still working on balancing PvP. It doesn't sound like it can be completely turned off, but he hinted there will be a way to keep it from being the forefront

-VATS will return, but be in real time

-Bethesda will continue to add content to 76 after release

-76 will have some kind of mod support, but not at release

-Private world will be a thing, but probably not until after launch

All in all, I feel a bit better about 76 after this interview, but I'm still skeptical, and while Todd did answer some questions, I don't feel like he answered enough of them.

Edit: Grammar and formatting

Fallout 76 should feature a Karma system.. (noticeable on players from a distance?)

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 05:28 AM PDT

It would be really cool if you could tell what sort of person they are and what better way than through a karma system like in previous fallouts. Losing Karma through killing good karma'd players and gaining it when killing bad ones? Also gaining karma by doing other good things around the world? Who knows...

"Solo" does NOT mean offline!

Posted: 10 Jun 2018 07:59 PM PDT

Todd said the game is an always online experience. You are not required to play with others, hence the notion that you can play alone. That does NOT mean the game is offline!

Fallout 76 : If there's no NPCs, then I'll become an NPC

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 01:12 PM PDT

I'll probably treat it as a Fallout style roleplay server. Set up a store. Send players on quests. Have friends act as raiders and ambush dudes. Finally be that Fallout merchant I always wanted to be, ever since New Vegas and the Gun Runners.

Private Servers + Serious Roleplaying could be incredible.

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 10:06 AM PDT

Hey guys, I know the sub (including me) is a little on-edge about Fallout 76 - but while I have my reservations on the fact that it's always online and the world will be inhabited by people like you and me, I've got to say - the prospect of serious RP is shovelling coal right into my hype train.

I brought this up in a couple comments today, but I feel as though it really brings up why this is so important.

'Grand Theft Auto: Online' is a dumpster fire of 12 year olds mindlessly shooting eachother, but the FIVE-M private servers are for serious RP. I absolutely hate GTAO, but the private servers with whitelists and strict RP rules are the most fun I've had in a video game since Halo 3.

What I'm saying is: there's huge potential for players to create and curate a world with serious depth. Squads of players RPing as Brotherhood, enclave, raiders, couriers.... the list goes on...(and hell, why not create your own gang of people and inject it into the lore?) all inhabiting a shared world where stories and conflicts can rage on for hours and hours.

This, obviously, is contingent on Bethesda giving server administators the tools to lay out the groundwork (and a playercount that can support RP scenarios like this... 32 players please), but I'm keeping my hopes up that they do.

Because even though I love wandering the wasteland solo, taking in the universe that Bethesda lays out in front of us, there's something special about building that universe with people who are talented storytellers experiencing it alongside them.

The sad irony of Fallout76 being in West Virginia

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 06:10 AM PDT

As soon as Todd said "entirely online" I sighed and dropped my head. Not because I hate the idea or think this is going to ruin the franchise or any of the reasons the other naysayers are crying about.

I hung my head out of frustration for my West Virginia breathren. To my knowledge there has never been a game in WV. That in itself is a crying shame. West Virginia is pure untapped potential for a video game. The history there is deep, the setting is idyllic, and there is unique regional mythos. I have faith that Bethesda will do it justice.

There is just one problem. If the game requires an online connection, most many West Virginians won't be able to enjoy it. This may seem surprising to most folks, but West Virginia infrastructure is a bit behind. Ironically, that is one of the reasons this setting is so intriguing. But if you need a high speed internet connection most of West Virginia will be left in the dark. There aren't many cities in wv and the ones that are there aren't up to date metro areas. This state is mostly forgotten by time and that's how most West Virginians want it. I can feel the immense frustration of finally seeing the State in the National/International spotlight only to be left in the dark. Without the ability to play offline a large percentage of West Virginian gamers won't be able to play.

My heart goes out to those kids in the backwoods of West Virginia opening their Christmas presents. Being so excited to finally play a game they can relate to. A fantasy world set in their own backyard! Only to have their hopes dashed by the error screen saying, "Fallout76 requires an active internet connection."

tldr: a lot of WV doesn't have high speed internet

Edit: I misspoke by saying "most". WV is underserved for internet, but it isn't affecting more than half the residents. Just about 28%. Courtesy of u/Snowshine49

This new Fallout wont ruin thr franchise, stop with the drama

Posted: 10 Jun 2018 08:14 PM PDT

Not much after the game was officially announced, there are people already claiming that Fallout franchise is ruined. The way i see it, Fallout 4 came out rather recently and Fallout 76 is not a sequel, so theres nothing wrong in Bethesda wanting to expand their horizons and make a few spinoffs.

Lets be reasonable and dont judge the entire company and franchise based on a newly released game.

(TODD INTERVIEW) “Fallout 76 will have private worlds and mods but not at launch”

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 12:18 PM PDT

Yes! I am sold! Take my money

another thing he said is that they are balancing the "griefy" part of FO76. The interviewer mention whether pvp is optimal and Todd said they will put an incentive for PVP however hinting at it being optional

Edit: in pretty sure he means non CC mods as he said they love the modding community and then he said that mods will be available as well as private worlds but only once they have a stable system

Edit 2. Grammar

Very Unpopular Opinion: It looks fun!

Posted: 10 Jun 2018 07:57 PM PDT

I'm willing to give it a try. We've been wanting an online experience fallout for years. All of the sudden when we get it y'all cry. Give it a chance. It hasn't even come out plus we get a beta

EDIT: Of course I get downvotes. I expect that. Just be civil. Please

EDIT 2: whoa, you guys rock! I guess my opinion isn't a very unpopular one.

The Evolution of Fallout dialogue (2018 Update)

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 01:40 PM PDT

Regardless of how this game turns out, I hope there are some high level players that role play as the mysterious stranger.

Posted: 11 Jun 2018 07:39 AM PDT

Sneaking around, trailing some noob without being seen. Then when the new player bites off more than he can chew or gets ambushed by other players... Bam! Fedora, trench coat, and pistol.
Before the noob can ask any questions, the mysterious stranger logs off. Just a cool idea.

"You can play solo, but you SHOULD play multiplayer!" will ruin the franchise.

Posted: 10 Jun 2018 07:45 PM PDT

This announcement is massively disappointing. We didn't love Fallout because it was just short of a battle royale multiplayer map. We didn't love the game because our homes could be bombed out in multiplayer, or because we wanted randoms from the internet to gank us or destroy our experience. This will be the death of the franchise, and for nothing more than a money grab. I know there's a megathread about Fallout 76, but this deserves it's own post. My favorite franchise has gone to the Battlegrounds Dogs.
