True Dota 2 - Warlock + Medusa

Warlock + Medusa

Posted: 26 May 2018 02:37 PM PDT

Does anyone have experience with this hero pair? I haven't tested it out myself yet but I think it has potential. There's good synergy with their ults + upheavel as well as fatal bonds + split shot. Any glaring pitfalls that I'm missing?

Unconventional Hero Builds

Posted: 25 May 2018 06:40 PM PDT

I'm starting this thread to promote some discussion about unconventional hero builds. Recently, I've started deciding to use my queue times more productively - looking at the heroes list, and really trying to think creatively - "How else can I use this hero that hasn't been discovered yet?"

So far I've come up with two builds over the last couple days. I'll post mine - feel free to either discuss mine, or post your own. I think, in true Jacky Mao and Aui fashion, theorycrafting is a meta-skill of Dota that can lead to some really great results.

My builds:

Right-click Puck - Basically, the point of this build is two-fold. One, utilize Puck's insane initiation and gank potential in the early- and mid-game. Two, scale late game to be a right-click core. You may think, as I initially did, that other's would simply do the job better. Queen of Pain, for example. However, this build matches or surpasses QoPs damage output.

The buildup is: 2x circlet 2x branch FF starting, bottle, treads, aquilla with one circlet, blink, wraith band with second circlet to be used for hurricane pike, Aghs, MKB, Deadalus.

Advantages:
* Good early presence with the damage from Aquila treads
* Standard initiation with blink, with is core
* High HP because of hurricane + aghs
* Ability to break coil with hurricane pike + aghs for a gaurenteed long stun
* Solid AoE damage with lvl 25 Dream Coil talent, and insane (1600-1700 dps, higher than a QoP with +1 damage item) single target damage within coil.
* Insane mobility with Blink + Force

Disadvantages:
* Slightly less damage for lane (2 or 3, I forget) due to starting items vs. null branch FF
* Hurricane pike + dream coil combo is hard to execute effectively - often, you use hurricane pike to break coil, only to have the enemies behind the safety of their allies.
* Dead zone of levels 20-25 where you have damage items but no damage steroid via level 25 talents

Right-click Dark Willow - Still experimenting with build on this one, but the advantages of this one are clear. Her BAT is the highest for any ranged hero (I believe, not 100% sure) and almost as high as any real carry in the game (1.3). She has multiple right-click enabling talents, including a MASSIVE one at 25 with +200 attack speed. Her laning is strong enough to mid, and she has a decent (not great) farming mechanic in her ult.

As I said, feel free to critique or discuss my builds, or post your own! Cheers!

What is up with BSJ, kyle, +1 casting all the recent Major/Minors?

Posted: 26 May 2018 12:03 PM PDT

Have all the other casters gone on vacation?

IMO I think a good caster balances professional casting with banter to create a good viewing experience. BSJ and Kyle, while providing really good analysis they are too banter-y.

I have nothing against it, but I do prefer the one shout caster and one analyst. More clean. Less talking over each other.

What's everyone else's thoughts?

Should I buy dotaplus now?

Posted: 25 May 2018 05:52 PM PDT

It's been a while since dotaplus been released, and I'd like to hear some advice of whether or now it is worth buying..

I am quite busy but I still miss dota so I play 2~3 games a week, very infrequently. I've heard many cristism about how incurract and uselss it is, and don't know whether or not it is true.

Are those item, hero pick recommendations, winrate analysis useful?

Do you build diffusal on PL when against SD and why?

How does rank badge work?

Posted: 25 May 2018 09:06 PM PDT

I saw on my feed 2 people leveled up twice in a space of 2 games in one day. How is that possible?

P.S. Both were party games.

Brook's Medusa Jungle strat

Posted: 25 May 2018 07:36 PM PDT

TL;DR; Watch this: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/265468912?t=11m37s

Preface:

Is level 1 jungling incredibly toxic?

Yes

Is level 1 jungling a terrible idea because neutrals don't spawn until 1 min?

Yes

Is level 1 jungling a great way to tilt your allies and weaken your lanes?

Yes

With all that being said I have put together a jungle Medusa build that I have found surprising amounts of success with. Please note that I am not a pro, and I don't claim to be good at Dota, and I won't guarantee you will find any success with this build.

I am merely a Divine 0 NA carry/offlane player and the games I attempted occured in the 4K MMR (ancient)/low 5K MMR (divine) bracket. I have done this in both radiant and dire and there are quirks to both.

Starting items: 1 X Wraith band + 1 X slippers of agility

Starting skill build: 1 point in split shot

Go help your team fight for runes. Then head to the medium camp closest to your team's jungle shrine. When the creeps spawn at 1 min, start punching them and in between attacks back up. This initial step is easier if you are on dire because you can hit the neutrals from high-ground.

After clearing the first camp, head to another medium camp and repeat the process. After this camp you will be level 2 (level and activate mana shield), and you should have enough gold to complete your second wraith band.

Now you can move between camps, stack when nearing a minute mark, and utilize splitshot to draw aggro from two camps by standing about halfway in between.

I like to follow this seemingly ridiculous build. Buy a basillius and continue buying wraith bands until you have 1 X aquila and 4 X wraith band.

You get this after earning a total of 2230 gold in the jungle (after spending 615 of starting gold). This is enough gold to buy an ultimate orb (+10 all stats) but instead when compounded with your starting items you get:

  • 15 strength

  • 37 agility

  • 15 int

  • 10 damage

  • 0.5 aura mana regen

  • 2 aura armor

This solves many of Medusa's problems and puts her in a great spot for the early-mid game. Her low hp is buffed a reasonable amount in addition to gaining a considerable amount of int for the mana shield. She gets almost 40 agility (and 10 dmg) which allows her to farm extremely fast. Note that THIS TAKES UP 5 ITEM SLOTS. This is a major downside. However after completing treads + aquilla + 4 wraith bands (or phase + aquilla + 4 wraith bands for you Europeans out there) you can move directly into a big item like Skadi (or perhaps even rapier). You will farm it fast, you will be and you will be tanky enough to your team to turn around ganks. I can't emphasize how much EHP dusa gets early on from these simple wraith band purchases.

As you move through the jungle and finish your wraith bands, I suggest you continue alternating skill points in split shot and mana shield. I usually take stone gaze at level 9.

In one of my more efficient games I hit level 7 with my aquilla and 4 wraith bands at the 9 minute mark. I have had many games where end up leading the net-worth chart even though I don't start farming until the one minute mark.

At this point in the game, if things went well, you are an additional core for your team in addition to your safelaner, midlaner, and offlaner and you have had uncontested freefarm that has brought you into a commanding position to scale well into the lategame. At this point you could easily pick up a blademail (because you have crazy high EHP) versus enemy cores like PA, Luna, or antimage. You could also move directly into skadi (which is a big item to farm up, but having the 5 wraith bands will help you get there). You could also go SNY + diffusal, the world is your oyster.

If things went wrong, for example you got chased all day by a bounty hunter, or your allies rage quit, or all 3 lanes are completely lost due to your lack of help, begin to contemplate the pain and suffering you have inflicted upon your allies.

I have have had great farm but mixed winrate with this build. My dusa winrate is currently at 57%. I think a lot of people who are in lower brackets could easily utilize this strategy to their benefit. Let me know if you have any questions.
