So I played 777 games as random on for glory and these are my winrates

Posted: 27 May 2018 06:03 AM PDT

A long while ago, I decided to try something interesting out: playing several games on for glory as random, then after so many games, looking at my winrates. No DLC characters were included in this.

After exactly 777 games, I checked my win rates in the stats, and compiled them into this tier list. My overall win rate was about 52%.

https://i.imgur.com/SvANhzo.png

Looking at this tier list, a lot of things seem really weird. The most obvious one is the fact I didn't drop a single game out of 22 as palu, though I did have one extremely close call. I just kept on winning with her without fail. I also only dropped one game as luigi. Yoshi is only at 5th, so I feel like I had a bad run with him. Kirby and samus being high makes sense as they are easy to use.

Wario is somewhat high, and Zelda is extremely high considering how good I normally am with her and how good she is as a character.

All the characters in the 50-59 region look pretty normal, with dk, ness, villager and pit coming in at exactly 50%.

Mario is one of my strongest characters, so why he only got 47% is really strange. Lucina had a really bad start, but she started to play a lot better after about the 500th game. Marth, though, is unreasonably low (23%), and should I play another ~700 games, he would rise significantly.

Sheik last at 16% makes perfect sense. I don't know how to use her at all, though I at least managed to get two wins with her.

Other stats:

Duck Hunt was my most common character, appearing 25 times. On the opposite end, meta knight only appeared eight times.

I achieved at least 50% with 27 out of 48 characters, though more characters fell below 40% than achieved at least 60%.

Sheik ties with falco for the least amount of wins, both at 2.

I wonder what this chart says about my playstyles. I might make an updated version at a later point, maybe at ~1500 games played (hopefully the 10% tier will be gone). But then again, it's pretty much over when smash switch drops.

  1. Battle Gateway takes place in Tokyo (East Japan). As such, West Japan regulars such as Kounotori, Zoma, Rudolph, and s-royal were absent from this tournament, though others such as Nanashi had a visit.
  2. If you are unaware of Japan's players, [their PR](https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/7vw9lq/new_japanese_ssbm_2017_rank/) is a good place to start.
  3. Shippu won Battle Gateway 20, only dropping one game to Sanne throughout the entire tournament. With this win, Shippu now has the most Battle Gateway wins since it's inception in 2013 with five titles under his belt, usurping the previous holder, Gucci.
  4. Both Shippu and Sanne have been wrestling for control over the East Japan region in aMSa's absence in the US. Their rivalry briefly went into Sanne's favor with his victory in Amaterasu with an 8-5 set lead. Since then however, the advantage has shifted back towards the Japanese Peach who now holds a 9-8 record against Sanne.
  5. Da-yoshi is enjoying a period of success that he may have never witnessed for this long. Though he was sent to losers early by Japanese ICs Watch, he made a losers run defeating muro, Tanzanyte the Awakener, Falpan, and Sheik before falling to West Japan's Nanashi. He is shaping up to be East Japan's premiere Falco in Yu's absence and may not be far aware from stealing away the title of Japan's best Falco away from West Japan's Kounotori.
  6. True to the nature of Ice Climbers, Japan's watch has always faced varying results in his singles bracket while also anchored down by the pressure of TOing. Despite those setbacks, he managed to perform very well at BGW 20 by defeating WTS, Da-yoshi, and Massun for a very impressive 5th place. In contrast to typical IC runs however, the character that ended his run in both brackets was Sheik (I am unaware if Nanashi used Sheik or Samus against watch), an interesting result to note.
  7. On the topic of Japanese smashers rising to the occasion, Falpan is a Japanese Fox who has struggled to break into the top echelon of Japan's top players for years. As of recently however, the tides are shifting in his favor with solid results in his weeklies to prove it. Though he did not have the most spectacular run, he still managed to defeat Plata in his road to 7th place, which may be his best result yet.
  8. Sheik has been quite the mystery in where he stands among Japan's best. He is quite the hidden boss himself in a region already full of them, always placing well but not phenomenally in his few appearances among the past few years. However, he has begun to appear in more and more tournaments as of late, and we may see the return of one of Japan's most dangerous Sheiks in consistent form.
  9. While Sanne holds a rivalry with Shippu in East Japan, he also holds another stubborn one with West Japan's Nanashi. It would not be outrageous to call Nanashi West Japan's best and Sanne is very much in argument for being East Japan's strongest. Before going into BGW, Nanashi held a 1-0 set lead thanks to his victory at Crazy Hand 2018. However, he was double eliminated by Sanne here, albeit in some very close sets, shifting the record to 1-2 in Sanne's favor. It would be fair to say however that Nanashi is the more consistent player of the two despite showing up to less tournaments, so it's difficult to say who would be ranked higher in Japan at the moment.
  10. Also no thanks to Sanne, Nanashi was unable to get his revenge on Shippu after losing a close 3-2 set at Crazy Hand 2018. That is another rivalry boiling under the surface for Japan's best, reinvigorating their feud when they both were residents of East Japan.
  11. With his win at Crazy Hand 2018 and Battle Gateway 20, it would be a comfortable claim to call Shippu as the second best in Japan behind aMSa. The only negative record he holds is against Rudolph, but he has only appeared in one Japanese tournament in 2018 and thus only holds a weak 1-0 lead over the former. In fact, thanks to Rudolph's inactivity, the race to 2nd has been fueled by many players besides Shippu, most notably Zoma who earned an impressive 2nd place at Crazy Hand by defeating Sanne, bitou, Plata, Nagaimo, and Nanashi before falling to Shippu in Grand Finals. He also won KSB 2018 by defeating Nagaimo, Sanne, and Plata while trading sets with Nanashi. He is mostly likely 3rd in Japan behind Shippu, while Sanne shares a seat at 4th with Nanashi.
  12. Despite arguments for 2nd and later, it still should be noted that many of Japan's best have had extremely minimal appearances at Japanese tournaments. Rudolph himself has been more absent than usual, Gucci has yet to make a singles appearance in 2018, and aMSa himself has attended few Japanese tournaments and has not met many of those just beneath him, which include Shippu and Gucci. His wins overseas have officially cemented him a number one spot in Japan regardless of what may happen in the rest of 2018, but historically his records in Japan, though sometimes exaggerated, have been a blemish in his annual resumes compared to his national results. Though this year he has mostly proven himself to be free even from the clutches of Japan's Yoshi slayers, he would most likely need another tournament win to really seal his dominance within his lethal region.
