DEAR NIANTIC - ideas and suggestions for the devs

Posted: 28 May 2018 08:36 AM PDT

Hey Niantic! You guys made a game we all have a lot of feelings about...and this is our spot to express those feelings and make some statements about ways we think the game could be even better for us - and by extension, you!

If you want to complain about the game in a less constructive way please do so in the Salty Sunday - Rage Rants and complaints thread.

Here you will find ideas and suggestions - a mix of the positive posts and constructive criticism that reddit's Pokemon Go community have compiled and discussed and up/downvoted by importance and validity for us all. If there's one post on /r/pokemongo you guys should be paying attention to, it's this one, so please do.

Hey /r/PokemonGo Trainers! This recurring monthly post is for you guys. Sort posts by "top" to see what has been voted most important so far, but consider sorting by "new" as well to weigh in on the most recent ideas!

Please pay attention to the /r/PokemonGo rules for commenting behavior and civility, and use the report button when necessary to alert the mods to any post or thread that needs a review!

[Story]Caught perfect Mew after an Ex-raid

Posted: 28 May 2018 02:49 PM PDT

My local raid group recommended me to post this on Reddit because some haven't heard of anyone with both.

We had a great turnout at an Ex-raid today and I don't think anyone caught anything great. I've held off on catching Mew for weeks so decided to try today. I now have a perfect Mew and perfect Mewtwo.. too that I caught a month ago.

Totally worth waiting.

Went from level 38 to 40 in two days.

Posted: 28 May 2018 06:34 AM PDT

I spent the weekend running all over Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA looking at real estate with lucky eggs and Go+ running constantly. After getting 2 million XP Friday night and Saturday morning without actually trying, I decided to apply myself Saturday night and all day Sunday. Took a couple of detours through smaller towns in the way home last night to get the last couple hundred stops I needed to cross the threshold making my four hour drive take six, but I did it. ~1200 new stops and 26 lucky eggs to get it done. I guess I can finally put this game away...

Anyone notice anything with Porygon-Z's max CP?

Posted: 28 May 2018 08:41 AM PDT

Apparently, Porygon-Z has 3GB RAM. Hehe.

His max CP is 3072.... I see it as 3072MB aka 3GB.

Coincidence? I think not.

[RESULTS] 2018 Pokémon Go Community Survey.

Posted: 28 May 2018 01:20 PM PDT

In my yesterday's post ( https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/comments/8mkfvb/2018_pok%C3%A9mon_go_community_survey_it_wont_take/ ) I asked you to full out a survey, and we got over 10,000 people to take their time and full the survey out! Here are the results and some interesting facts. (Keep in mind that these answers are based on the reddit users, whom are generally active players):

> When did you first play pokemon GO?

Over 86% of the surveyed people has played Pokémon since its initial release, almost 9% a bit after its release, and and few after that.

> What is your trainer level?

The graph speaks for itself. I should've noted every level. Sorry for that

Which team are you on?

Mystic: 43.4%

Valor: 30.8%

Instinct: 25.8%

Have you spent real money on Pokémon Go?

As seen in the graph, only 23.3% of the surveyed have NOT spent a dime on Pokémon Go so far (including people who have been gifted coins). Also, a pretty big 7.7% of players have spent more than 250 dollars.

If you've spent real money on coins, what do you mainly use it for?

Ranking goes as follows (highest to lowest):

  • 1 - Upgraded Item Storage

  • 2 - Upgraded Pokémon Storage

  • 3 - Incubators

  • 4 - (event) Boxes

  • 5 - Raid Passes

  • 6 - Poké Balls

  • 7 - Incenses

  • 8 - Lure Modules

  • 9 - Star Pieces

  • 10 - Max Revives

  • 11 - Max Potions

What is/are your main goal(s) in Pokémon Go at the moment? (Multiple answers may have been selected)

Ranking goes as follows (highest to lowest):

  • 1 - (79.6%) Filling my PokéDex

  • 2 - (45.8%) Getting the highest CP on Pokémon

  • 3 - (42.6%) Getting high IV's on Pokémon

  • 4 - (41%) Getting to level 40

  • 5 - (36.6%) Finding all possible Shiny Pokémon

  • 6 - (27.9%) Catching Raid Bosses

  • 7 - (24.6%) Hatching Eggs

  • 8 - (18.8%) Getting 50 coins each day / Battling in Gyms

  • 9 - (16.3%) Getting all medals

  • 10 - (11.8%) Grinding Stardust

  • 11 - (10.8%) Solo-ing Raid Bosses

  • 11 - (7.0%) Farming Rare Candies

How much do you play Pokémon go -at the moment-?

The graph speaks for itself. Not noted on the legend: 7% (dark red) = I only play occasionally

How many community days have you attended?

23.3% of surveyed have attended all community days so far, while 13.9% does not know what community days are, or have not attended any.

If you've attended any community days. Which ones did you participate in?

It is interesting to see that more and more people are attending community days each month. At least, according to these statistics.

12% of surveyed have not participated in any community days.

Which of these Legendaries do you at least own 1 of?

As expected, many people own either Zapdos or Moltres, mostly through the new Research system in Pokémon go. Over 95% own a Zapdos, and over 88% own a Moltres. 54.5% of surveyed own a Mew, which suggests that many people are still progressing through their Mew Research.

Are you part of an active physical community (i.e. social media groups, Silph Road communities) that you for example Raid with? - /r/Pokemongo not included

Interesting result. The community is split in half when considering whether they are part of a physical community. 49.1% says 'YES' while 50.9% says 'NO'.

How many raids do you complete each week on average?

Unclear in graph:

4.4% clears 10~25 raids per week

0.6% clears 25~50 raids per week

0.1% clears 50~100 raids per week

0% clears 100+ raids per week

What is the highest tier raid that you've completed solo?

Unclear from graph: 3.4% (323 out of 9,541 people) has completed a tier 4 solo raid.

What grade would you give Pokémon Go?

Average grade: 7.32/10

Thanks for everyone who took the survey. Got any other ideas for Surveys, or have I missed some questions? Let me know in the comments!.

New Player...Took My First Gym!

Posted: 28 May 2018 07:18 AM PDT

Hey fellow trainers!

I know I'm late to the party, but I downloaded Pokemon Go recently (to motivate myself to get off the couch) and completely fell in love. I've been going for daily walks, catching Pokemon and most recently discovered a gym nearby my house. So this morning, I woke up at 6:00 a.m., walked my ass to the gym and annihilated three other Pokemon to claim it as my own. Feeling pretty great right now.

Anyway, I don't really have anyone to share this with, so I thought you all might appreciate my first victory.

We'll be having a crew going to one of the best spots in the city for the community day. I figured I'd make some Larvitars and hand them out to anyone we see playing while we're there.

It's the first time I've printed something in 2 halves and glue them together, think it turned out pretty well!

My Mew Saga

Posted: 28 May 2018 03:32 PM PDT

I'm a level 37 filthy casual.

I'm the one who asks what mons to use at each raid. I'm the one who gets frustrated with curveballs because my nail length and recent manicure 💅 make them tough. I capture tons of mons just because they are cute. I.am.that.girl.who.dresses.like.her.pogoavatar...

I caught a ditto. Five minutes later field research told me to catch a ditto to progress.

I finally had enough candies to evolve my shiny Magikarp and did so. Approximately a hour later I was told to evolve a Magikarp.

Please note: I live by the Pacific Ocean. I would go days at a time without seeing a Magikarp so I could unleash my pinapberries. I'd walk along the water just about daily & lure the stops... no Magikarp. I tried using thesilphroad atlas and couldn't find one. We took a vacation... to a different beach no Magikarp for me.

Fortunately, I love to do marathons. Ultimately, I had to complete one to get enough candies based off the meager Magikarp I did have. I finished up on Saturday by just doing ten miles on foot. Finally!!! Step 6 of 8 complete!

My next special research assignment?

Catch 50 mons using a berry and

Something easy and forgettable and

Catch a pokémon with an excellent curveball

I had tons of berries. And, we live near a ton of stops. I sat in the livingroom and did the first two. Each shot I made was a curveball. My nails clicked on my phone. I tried all the suggestions of all YouTubing trainers. IhasCupcake did a video on how to play with long nails. I couldn't find it or a follow up video on curveballs. I finished that quest and went to sleep.

Yesterday I was four miles and two raids in. My pal wanted to sit. By that I point I was getting consistently "Nice" curveballs with an occasional "Great". A wild Nosepass appeared. These are not cute. But every mon is a chance at Mew. I decided to shoot my shot and made my excellent curveball!!!!

I was so happy. I decided to find our what was in store next. It felt just like a ton of XP but then Mew deemed me worthy! Remember, I'm a filthy casual. I didn't have the option to give it a red or golden raspberry, no nanaberry, no super no ultraball. It was me, Mew and a regular pokéball.

I now have Mew!!! He's 93% but all mine!!!

Quest completed!

[Idea] If I flee from a Pokemon, make it's Z-Index the lowest possible amongst the Pokemon on the map

Posted: 28 May 2018 04:35 AM PDT

I'm sick and tired of tapping on the wrong Pokemon because two have spawned together in adjacent Level 20 S2 cells. And repeatedly tapping that wrong Pokemon. And a shiny check ultimately failing because I have moved out of the area in a vehicle.

God forbid a clump of lures and regular spawns are all overlapping each other. The best strategy to handle that is try to catch the unwanted Pokemon, or pray it flees when it breaks out of your terrible throw. Either will remove it from the overworld so you can finally tap the mon you want.

I don't want to hit the extreme that a trainer fleeing should make a pokemon despawn, so I'd rather this middle ground.

Edit: Hey there; I noticed the typo in the title. Yes, it should be "its".

[PSA] Check your items for an Ex-pass, even if you didnt receive the notification or in-game pop-up. (Cross-post from /r/thesilphroad)

Posted: 28 May 2018 10:19 AM PDT

Seems like many (all?) trainers who received a pass have not received a notification or pop-up this wave. (Applies to the ex pass wave that just went out yesterday for June 5/6.)

Cross-posting from /r/thesilphroad for visibility. Sorry for those who didn't get a pass!

  • not showing in journal either
  • shows as icon in the list of gym badges
  • both android and iOS
  • both V103.5 and v105.0

Tip for getting Fullscreen on your Android phone for Pokemon GO (remove notification bar and navigation bar if you have it)

Posted: 28 May 2018 05:41 PM PDT

I have the oneplus 5T without ROOT (stock) and hated always having the notification bar and nav bar always on screen with certain apps. if you know how to use adb on your pc, just type this into Command prompt or Powershell to get full screen on any app, just replace package name for what app you want at the end. like {reddit.news}or{com.android.chrome}

.\adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo

sorry if this is old news / common knowledge, but this was driving me crazy with my phone, hope this helps others!

[Idea] Lock Pokémon

Posted: 28 May 2018 03:01 AM PDT

This is an idea I had earlier today. Enabling the lock on a Pokémon will disallow you to transfer, evolve, or power up your Pokémon.

This prevents you from accidentally evolving or powering up a Pokémon that you want to keep as is.

Take a look: https://imgur.com/FFPRaig

EDIT: u/PastelDeUva had the good idea of also locking TMs.

[Idea] How to introduce the master ball

Posted: 28 May 2018 11:56 AM PDT

Seeing as though Mew had a 100% catch rate, albeit and also an awesome catch sequence. Wouldn't it be awesome if our mythical catches from Celebi moving forward were caught in a master ball? In the main Series games, even the Master Ball is used as a "research tool" and given to you sometimes by a Pokemon professor. I was just thinking this due to the 100% catch rate anyway, it would just add a nice little aesthetic to did entry in your Pokemon list. Thoughts on this?

My home area doesn't have any spawns in a 500m+ radius. Can I do something?

Posted: 28 May 2018 09:20 AM PDT

In my Home area, there are way too less Pokémon spawns. To get any Pokémon spawning I need to cross the highway bridge and get into a huge commercial area which is a 15+ minute walk. Is there any way to submit this to Niantic? There are multiple gyms and Pokéstops - just the spawns are bugged.

[Idea] Audio indicator and persistent icon upon Shiny Encounter

Posted: 27 May 2018 11:04 PM PDT

With some shinies being really hard to notice (even more so when trying to view your phone in direct sunlight) combined with this newest glitch that makes shinies appear as normies, I would thusly like to propose two minor QoL adaptations.

When the sparkles pop out of a shiny Pokemon on the encounter screen, it would be a welcome addition to have an audio indicator (thinking something like chimes or bells) to clue you in, just in case you aren't looking directly at the screen when the sparkles fly past.

Second, a persistent icon on the catch screen to show it's shiny. I'm thinking something like three sparkles wrapped around the upper right corner of the Pokemon's name on the catch screen - opposite of the Pokeball icon telling you when you've already caught a particular 'mon.

Minor changes. Not life changing. Just niceties to have.

Thanks for reading.

[Suggestion] - Make Mythical Quests repeatable every 3 months.

Posted: 28 May 2018 04:12 AM PDT

Title, allow players to repeat the Mythical Discovery quest (and future mythic quests) every 3 months from the date of completion.

This allows players to have an additional shot at a good IV mythic mon, only allows up to 4 repeats per year, and would be a good way to introduce shiny variants into the game.

Gendered Pokémon.

Posted: 28 May 2018 08:04 PM PDT

It would be nice for the team to update the catching feature so we can see what gender of Pokémon we are about to catch. It would save on wasting pokéballs in the long run.

Have any of you guys successfully reported a botter/spoofer and it actually worked? (kinda rant)

Posted: 28 May 2018 09:47 PM PDT

Let me begin this by saying I live in a small town. Well, near a small town. To get to all of the gyms, it's about a 25 ish minute drive. BUT I have one gym at the post office right down the street. Why can't I use this gym? Bots.

Around the time spoofing/botting grew, some kids in my town started using it to take all the gyms in town and the one near me. They live on the opposote side of town mind you. Whenever I take the one gym near me, within minutes they take it back and have it filled with super strong pokemon. Here I am in the parking lot alone while like 5-6 people take the gym from across town.

I've reported them multiple times but nothings happened. It's the same people. Idk if Niantic is on this sub or not, but it'd sure be great if you guys could pm me or something. I barely have any gyms around here, please stop botting. It ruins the fun for everyone else.

The End

TL;DR- Barely any gyms in my town, botters take them back instantly, Niantic hasn't banned them

[Idea] small QOL idea: displaying what task you completed at which pokéstop.

Posted: 28 May 2018 07:44 AM PDT

Edited image of my idea

Quite simple, right now you can press on a pokéstop and there will be a small notification button if you've done its task. My idea basically is just showing which task you completed which could be useful when sharing with others.
