Posted: 27 May 2018 11:00 AM PDT So I started dabbling in WvW when working on a gift of battle and started to enjoy it a fair bit, for the most part I've just kinda run around on whatever character I happen to be on at the time, but I've considered getting more into it and trying to actually build up some skill. The level 80's I have are Mesmer, Necro, Ranger, Guardian and Revenant. This would be a longer term goal in terms of getting good gear for all of these seeing as atm I only have one full set of ascended on my Mirage and I'll admit my ascended crafting has been slow alongside my legendary Crafting. I'm open to recommendations as to what class/specialization you think I should pursue. And because I know I'm going to get asked: for the most part I just roam capping camps and the like, but if there is a good Zerg going I'll join up. Ideally I'd love something that can be fairly versatile without me having to constantly have to switch full sets of gear. I'm not necessarily looking for "the best possible numbers" but just more a bit more of a sense of direction while playing. Thanks in advance for pushing through my rambling thoughts. Idea for single-use Black Lion items Posted: 27 May 2018 12:42 PM PDT If you open tons of Black Lion Chests, you probably have tons of single use bank access, trading post, self-style hair kits etc. Currently if you a Black Lion Contract those items lose all value and you have to delete them or let them clutter up your bank space. With the addition of Black Lion Statuettes as a way of slowly working towards Black Lion drops, would anyone else like to be able to trade in single use items for statuettes? The exchange rate wouldn't be anything spectacular but it would make it so you wouldn't feel as bad when you get a chest that has transmutation charges and a bank access in it. Thoughts? Is there a profession you love mechanically but can't get into thematically? Posted: 27 May 2018 05:38 PM PDT For me, it really is the engineer. I love the engineer mechanics. I love the kits, the diversity, it feels almost the closest to old GW1 for me. However, in a cool magic world, I just can't get behind a steam punk character. Posted: 27 May 2018 06:32 AM PDT While I was playing with some new Rangers I realized another trick that everyone may not know about. Although the HUD changes, you are still able to control your pets while in the downstate. This means you can switch pets, send them to attack, pull them back and even use their F2. This is very useful in WvW/PvP where you can use a pets F2 to knockdown an opponent who is trying to stomp you or my favorite use the Wolfs F2 for an AoE fear this will even stop a stealth character from stomping you (without Stability of course). I would have quit GW2 without a level 80 boost. Posted: 26 May 2018 09:01 PM PDT Hey guys, 2 week old player here. I kind of feel like I come to this sub to lose upvotes, but whatever I'm going to speak my mind because I feel like I've seen a lot of hate towards the level 80 boosts. So I've seen people say that I'd miss out on the story, that I wouldn't know how to play my character, how boosted level 80 players ruin the game for others, and that I would lose the reason to keep playing the game. So I said alright, let's not do it. So there I was. Fighting the centaurs and playing a jogging simulator in between since I didn't have the money to use the waypoints. I REALLY tried to find some kind of a reason to care about Quinn, but deep down I couldn't care less if Two-Blade sheathed one of his blades in Quinn and the other in Logan Thackeray- who apparently is my boss? I'm sorry, I just did not care at all. I got as far as joining the order of whispers and was drinking with the Charr? Like I get it was supposed to be comedic, but jesus this is an organization that's trying to protect this countries establishment? You guys have a level 5 and a Cat with an apple fetish running the show, you realize that right? Honestly, I was going to quit right then and there. If this was the story I was going to miss, then you know what, I'd miss it. But I didn't. I said to myself, you know what let's just try out the boosts, let's see what the DLC is like and we'll give it a fair shot. I did the unspeakable- I used a level 80 boost. And you know what? I had a blast. The Heart of Thorns missions throw me in as some kind of commander- idk how but I'm sure they chucked that numpty Thackery out finally. We're in these jungles fighting off raids and saving squadmates. Everyone hates each other, apparently the plants are getting posessed, idk man shit's going down. I've got a glider! Let's go! If get tired of it, no worries. I jump over to Path of Fire! Screw it, they said don't, but I'm going to. I'm fighting a God now. I don't know who these people are, and I don't care it might as well be an action movie. We've got an Angry cat, some mage person and a plant dude. He's talking about the forrest episode, bro I was just there. I'm fighting these demon dudes, I've got a raptor now, this Greek god son of a bitch is killing a dragon! This is sick! And I don't even have to worry about anything. If I don't want to spend 20 mintues stabbing centaurs to fill out a heart I don't have to. And if I do, I'm going to get a new bunny mount or something. I didn't get anything for helping Quinn man, just more work. And as far as not knowing what I'm doing- mechanically I learned by just queing for unranked religiously. Like I'm level 25 or something and am silver 3 I think. Close to gold. I just found a guide on metabattles, watched a couple youtube videos, and bumble bee tuna look at that people are dying. It's fine, sometimes IDK what the enemies are doing but I've got enough of an idea from playing WoW for years to know when to evade. And the guild I joined, I just immediately told them I boosted my character, that I'm basically brand new and there's no surprises. If they're going to bring me into dungeons or raids they know what they're dealing with. I'm not "wrecking the game" for other players. People who LIE are wrecking the game for others. So yeah, basically.. The level 80 boost was an amazing choice. Please don't bash it so hard, it's likely retained and gotten a lot of players invested. tl;dr Fuck Quinn. edit: I'm really trying to respond to as many of you as I can, but there's about 500 comments now so.. I'm sorry if I ignored your post. I'm sure a lot of you spent a lot of time crafting your opinion be it negative or positive, and it deserves a proper response but at this point it's just kind of a flood. Here's to hoping you guys aren't getting ignored and are joining in the conversation! I feel like this is an important topic. Statistics on the Soulless Horror Wall spawns Posted: 27 May 2018 09:08 AM PDT In response to the recent diskussions, I wanted to gather data to maybe reach some insight on the wall spawns in the Soulless Horror encounter. At first I just watched a couple of kill videos on youtube but quickly realised they are heavily skewed. Having a triple-mid-wall spawn seems to reduce the chance of a (good) kill and in the first handful videos I watched there where around 70 walls and not a single one of that type.To get less biased data, I went through some progression raid recordings from directly after release where every try was presented, no matter how good or bad. I also had a look at some training runs from early 2018 and went through recordings of our guild's static's tries/kills from throughout 2018. In the guild runs we tried to follow the rumor that staying inside the inner circle reduces big wall spawns. The training group tried that as well from what i could gather and managed to stay inside the majority of the time. Of course, this doesn't work perfectly all the time but if there is a correlation in any way, the amount of those walls in these runs should be negligibly low. This is all done under the assumption that no changes to the wall spawns have been done by ANet since they were implemented. Only three-segment walls (spawning between 90% and 33% Boss HP) have been taken into account. There are 6 different patterns of walls, some with their respective mirrored version:
where you would expect the first four variants account for 20% and the last two for 10% each of all walls (since the last two don't have a mirrored version). You can find my findings in the following tables: Progression runs (amount of walls: 374):
Training runs + guild runs (amount of walls: 281):
Overall (655 walls):
What can we take away from this? Well, while the numbers deviate a little from the expected values, one can still see that they tend to swing around them. It also doesn't look like the "stay mid" tactic heavily reduces the amount of center-triple-wall spawns. One could argue the number of samples is too low to be significant (after all, the triple-mid-wall is significantly lower than every other type and the other patterns aren't matching their expected values too well) but it's difficult to get a vast number without having the preselection of "good rng" runs. One other thing to keep in mind is that there may be other behaviors influencing the wall spawns that we aren't aware of at the moment. In some runs it felt like the patterns were heavily skewed towards one type or the other but overall it seems to me that in the end it's just simply random. It should still be beneficial to stay closer to the middle to reduce the amount of movement necessary but there should be no need to go rampage when a person sticks their toe over the mid section perimeter. Any further insights, criticism, questions are appreciated. [link] [comments]

Can someone explain fishing to me? Posted: 27 May 2018 03:10 AM PDT In many discussion about what can be "the next big thing" or what they can add to do game, fishing is one of most prevelent (alongside housing and other stuff, which I can imagine). Can anyone explain it to me? Like how ti works, what is that good for, why it should be entertaining - simply what is so great about it? Or link/write name of games you think have good fishing, the one you like to have in GW. Thx for all answers. What is the extent of Sylvari free will? Posted: 27 May 2018 06:30 PM PDT I'm somewhat of a new player and I'm just getting into the HoT story with my Sylvari Firebrand. Sylvari who wake up from the dream are in some way tied to their Wyld Hunt which is essentially just a premonition of their future. They follow the pale tree. Sometimes, Sylvari wake from the dream and enter nightmare. This seems like a realm with even less free will. Caithe explains how those gone to nightmare are irredeemable and ultimately corrupted. In the same way, the Mordrem are controlled by Mordremoth and Sylvari of weak will can also fall to Mordremoths corruption. So it seems like Sylvari have no free will as they are controlled by either the Dream/Pale Tree, the Nightmare, or by Mordremoth. It's as if the race itself is controlled by whatever hivemind is in closest magical proximity to it, but the individuals of the hive maintain unique and moldable personalities. So then how are there Sylvari pirates? Sylvari pirates don't seem to fall into the agendas of any of these hiveminds. [Bug] Can't throw pustule bombs in Dragons Vigil Posted: 27 May 2018 03:09 AM PDT When I tried to complete the ember bay achievements I went back to dragons vigil to kill some destroyers with the pustule bombs. After picking them up there is no skill to throw them in your skill bar so that you can only drop them, wich makes them disappear. Am I the only one that has this bug? I hope that's the right way to post and discuss a bug here :) [link] [comments]
