| Minecraft Bi-Weekly Build Challenge #44: Rural Town Posted: 29 Apr 2018 07:17 AM PDT LAST WEEK'S THEME: LIGHTHOUSEGoldA really cool and well designed build. I especially loved it for actually beaming out the light from the lighthouse itself. I also really loved how it was built, with the shape resembling the common lighthouse but with the colours and patterns being different enough to make it still feel unique. I personally liked the combination of grass, leaves and flowers towards the bottom but that's me who's a sucker for nature in the build. Overall, it was just well built and nothing stood out to us like sore thumbs. Great job! SilverAnother really awesome build. The problem I think we had with this build was the amount of detail. Now, I'm usually not too picky about detail (not as much as some seem to be at least), however, I felt here the detail took away from the fact it was a lighthouse. Hear me out: the most important part of the lighthouse is (arguably) the tope where the light is. Even though the tower still needs to look good enough, overall, it's the top that really distinguishes and lighthouse from a plain tower. Here, the tower part seems overwhelming and it takes away from the top of it, making it less a lighthouse and more a really fancy tower with a light at the top. Now, even though build is awesome, something felt off about it to me. What I just said up there was me attempting to explain why it felt a bit off. Don't get me wrong, way more positives than negatives but I'd rather point out the negatives than the positives and also the other judges may have their own reasons. Still an awesome build! BronzeI really liked this build as a whole. Everything, individually, I don't think is mind blowing or anything (definitely not bad either, don't get me wrong) but together, all these aspects make a very pleasant looking build. There's the nicely built lighthouse, the interesting terrain (along with some cool simple bridges that add to the build). There's the rocks in the water which I really liked as they made sense being there--a lighthouse protects against a rough coast. Also, the ship lying on the ground was a nice touch. So overall, just a very nice build that was pleasant to look at and (seemingly) simple to make. Good job! Honourable mentions IntroductionSo, we've been doing some simpler challenges the past two weeks so now let's try a slightly bigger one.... A rural village! Don't worry, it won't be too big, but will combine many aspects of building: Architecture, landscaping, a bit of interior design and more. Let's make a village! New Textures People have been asking about the new textures. As of now, the textures are only in the testing phase and will possibly change in the future. We have decided that we'll wait from allowing them in the build challenge as of now until there's a more official release of them. This may change next challenge as we, the judges, haven't had a full discussion on the matter but as of now, this is the ruling. Happy building! Inspiration ChallengeRural village Build AT LEAST 15 structures in your village. No maximum amount. A structure could be a house, a store, a station, a monument, etc (just make it something big enough to be considered a structure. A park bench is not a structure for instance.) You don't need to interiors to all of them, only one is required. It must be a rural village. Rules
