Heroes of the Storm Balance Patch Notes. April 1st, 2018

I am totally not a bot. Here's a transcript of the bnet blog post:

Heroes of the Storm Balance Patch Notes – April 1, 2018

Blizzard Entertainment / Blog post

{Image}

Our most recent Heroes of the Storm patch is now live containing a number of balance changes and bug fixes.

Quick Navigation:

  • Battlegrounds

  • Heroes

  • Bug Fixes

Battlegrounds

Blackheart's Bay

  • Fixed an issue where Blackheart's Bay wasn't the chosen map for 50% of the time.

Developer Comment: Blackheart's Bay was supposed to be the main map that Heroes of the Storm should be played on. We have fixed this issue, so you should see yourself playing this map every other game.

Braxis Holdout

  • Dr. Cook has been fired from his position due to inadequate handling of zerg specimens.

  • He has been replaced with Dr. Deckard Cain, to give you more excitement and enthusiasm in the announcing voicelines.

Garden of Terror

  • The Garden Terror's attack damage has been reduced by 75%.

  • The Garden Terror's potted plant will now deal 20% of a structure's maximum health per second.

  • The Garden Terror's speed boost is now always on.

Developer Comment: We have always loved the old gameplay of the Garden Terror, and we have decided to bring it back, in full nostalgia. We want to encourage more playmaking with the Garden Terror, so we have given it speed and much more mobility to prevent enemy teams from destroying it too quickly... or at all.

Hanamura

  • Hanamura has been re-added to the game with no changes. Internal feedback suggests that players were simply just not "gitting good" enough.

Infernal Shrines

  • When the Punisher leaps onto a hero, the sound effect "AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA" will play.

Towers of Doom

  • The Kill-Zone circle has been extended to the middle of the map. The Kill-Zone boundaries are now shared and splits the map down the middle.

Developer Comment: We believe that making this change to Towers of Doom will stop the strategy of constantly pushing the bottom lane, and that this will make laning more vibrant and exciting.

Heroes

Assassin

Talandar

  • Fenix has now been renamed to Talandar.

Genji

  • Genji's Swift Strike has it's range changed to become global. However, this will mean that whenever he uses it, he will end up on the opposite side of the map.

Developer Comment: Genji's Swift Strike has been a core part of his identity but a sore spot for people trying to play against him. By making Swift Strike a global range, Genji players will now have to think creatively to not get stuck in the enemy base.

Greymane

  • Greymane's Worgen form has been removed. His E will now build a wall. Any enemies near him will lose 10% maximum HP.

Developer Comment: We've been running into issues trying to balance Greymane around his versatility between Worgen form and Human form so we have decided to change Greymane to strictly human form. To compensate for this, he has now the ability to build walls, and make his enemies pay for it. Hopefully this change will allow Greymane to make Gilneas great again.

Nova

  • Nova's talents have been reworked. All of her talents will now affect Decoy in some way.

    • Swift Decoy, Slowing Decoy, Stunning Decoy, EMP Decoy, Healing Decoy, Taunting Decoy, Explosive Decoy, Revival Decoy, Global Decoy, Rocket Decoy, Dash Decoy, Sword Decoy, Nuke Decoy have now replaced her talents.

Developer Comment: We're happy with the stealth rework, and want to make a few minor tweaks to Nova by removing all her talents and replacing them with Decoy talents that will give her more flexibility.

Zul'jin

  • Zul'jin's Guillotine Ultimate is now global ranged and now has a 2 second cooldown.

Developer Comment: We feel that Zul'jin's mage build has been nerfed too much, so we are now compensating by buffing Guillotine to have a 2 second cooldown, allowing Mage-Build Zul'jins to be much more active in teamfights.

Warriors

E.T.C.

  • E.T.C's Mosh Pit now slows enemies by 20% instead of stunning enemies.

Developer Comment: Mosh pit has been dominant in usage for E.T.C and so we decided to tone down the power level of the ability slightly to give him a variety of options at level 10.

Garrosh

  • Garrosh's Wrecking Ball's throw range has been increased by 400%, approximately the width of the screen.

Developer Comment: The loss of the pull on Groundbreaker has been devastating to Garrosh's winrates, and as a result, we have decided to compensate by increasing the throw range on Wrecking Ball.

Misha

  • We have swapped Misha and Rexxar's roles. You will control Misha, and Rexxar will be a pet. When Rexxar dies, he will respawn in 10 seconds next to Misha.

Developer Comment: The gameplay around Misha was more compelling for Rexxar players, and as a result, we decided to swap which character the player controls directly. Misha will finally show Rexxar what it's like to hold a Braxis Holdout Beacon on his own.

Specialist

Gazlowe

  • Gazlowe turrets now last forever.

The Lost Vikings

  • We have decided to add 3 female vikings to control to balance out gender diversity, as vikings were known for their gender equality.

  • Their names are Astrid, Freya, and Brynhild. They each are based off the original vikings, and deal 25% more damage.

Developer Comment: Yeah! Girl power!

Probius

  • Probius has Disruption Pulse and Warp Rift removed, and replaced with "Build Gateway" and "Build Robotics Facility". Clicking these structures gives Probius the ability to construct new units, such as Zealots, Dragoons, Reavers, and Colossi.

  • Probius must build a Forge before it can construct Photon Cannons. This ability has been added to the 1 key.

Developer Comment: We decided to change Probius' kit to make it align more with the fantasy of playing a Probe. By giving it a larger diversity of buildings to construct, we believe that Probius will be alot more fun to play, with the ability to max out an army and send it out in classic Protoss Death Ball style.

Support

Ana

Stats

  • The width of Healing Dart has been increased by 2000%.

  • Penetrating Darts has been removed.

Developer Comment: People have complained about how hard it is to hit targets with Ana sometimes, and as a result, we have decided to increase the width of Healing Dart, allowing Ana to hit the first thing her massive darts should encounter. Penetrating Darts should no longer be necessary as a result.

Lt. Morales

  • Lt. Morales now gains a new ability on the D key called "Focus Morales". This taunts every nearby hero to attack only her.

Developer Comment: While this will change Morales' playstyle only slightly, we thought this would be a flavorful change to make to Lt. Morales.

Stukov

  • Massive Shove can now push a hero off the map and into the game of anyone on your friends list.

Bug Fixes

  • Heroes can now cast Area-of-Effect abilities globally before the gates open. This will add a little excitement to the gameplay before the match starts, and keep people on their toes.

  • Raynor: Fixed an issue causing his model to look unique. He should now look like a normal lane minion.

  • Blaze: Fixed an issue causing him to take damage from Hellbat mercenaries. He now heals HP from them.

  • Cho: Fixed an issue where you couldn't pick Cho without a Gall on your team..

  • Chen: Fixed an issue where Chen could be picked.

  • Ragnaros: Fixed an issue causing Lava Wave to deal no damage to structures.

  • Abathur: Fixed an issue causing Abathur to deal only 2% of the damage he would normally do with his melee auto-attacks.

  • Anub'Arak: Removed a bug by deleting Anubarak.

Happy April Fools you goofs.

[Heccu] We need to get connected with the pro scene!

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 01:33 PM PDT

Greetings, fellow humans. My name is Anastasia, and in the heroes community I go by the nickname Heccu. I am a freelance interviewer, partnered Twitch streamer, spotlight streamer for BlizzHeroes and I participate in the TGN Squadron´s weekly show "RANK WIN: EU".

Through the years, I visited multiple gaming events, 7* of which were HotS tournaments. Since 2017, I decided to start traveling to events not as a spectator, but as an interviewer. Why? Because as a huge fan of the game, which I started playing in Beta 3 years ago, I was not satisfied with the amount of attention that the HGC pro players were getting from content creators. Right away, I would like to make it clear: my thoughts are mostly directed to all HotS content creators (myself included) and not Blizzard.

Why do I think it is important for the viewers to connect with players? I'll give you my own example: no teams become my favourites based on the name of the org they play for. I have favourite players, and I support the teams that they play for. In order to favour someone, I must get to know them. It might be through meeting them on tournaments, watching them stream, reading their tweets and listening to their interviews. This is the exact reason, why sometimes you might see me rooting for an underdog and why I always had problems choosing a favourite Eastern team. There are players that I admire, because their micro skills are often the best in the world, but it does not make me want to support them. Eastern players often stream in their native language on platforms that I have almost never heard about. There are interviews with them, but I can't understand a thing, because they are not translated to any of the languages I understand. This is actually one of the main reasons why I decided to start learning Korean.

What are the best ways to get to know the HGC players? Besides following them on twitter and watching them stream, you have 2 other options: traveling to tournaments and watching interviews. The first option gives a chance to talk to pro players in person and get to see HOW cool and funny many of them are in real life. Unfortunately, the tournaments happen only 4 times a year (2x clashes, 1x brawl and 1x Blizzcon). and not everyone is capable of traveling there (financial, time or health reasons) + not all players get to travel to tournaments. Interviews are another great way to get to know the people "behind the heroes".

Blizzard´s pregame/postgame interviews during the regular league and tournaments are great at showcasing the relationships between rivaling teams. To me, it seems that them being "official" actually creates some problems. The importance of the outcome can stress out someone who is a newcomer at talking in front of the camera. This prevents players from being themselves, but can be fought by practicing. A great example is Zaelia from Team Dignitas. The first time I offered him to make an interview was a year ago, when he just joined Team Dignitas and won his first major title at the Western Clash. He was grateful for the offer, but he confessed that he was not yet comfortable at giving interviews. He would most likely agree, if I kept on insisting, but no one would enjoy the outcome. Not me for forcing. Not him for doing something that he does not feel comfortable doing yet. Not even the viewers, who would see our struggles. A year later, he accepted my second offer with no hesitations, so we made the Western Clash Katowice 2018 interview. How comfortable did he feel while doing it? Right before we started filming he asked if I don't mind him being shoeless during the interview. During Blizzard´s official interviews we got to hear the "old lady" and "DigJet" stories. Traveling to tournaments and participating in official content helped him to not worry to show his real self on camera. Unfortunately, not many players get this type of "training" very often.

Also, the "official" pre/post game interviews have a certain format. They are always very serious and they concentrate on the the game or teams, but almost never on individuals. I am a HUGE fan of Blizzard's HGC Oracle series, because it lets us (viewers) have a glance at the "human side" of players. Don't get me wrong, even though some of their mechanical skills are out of this world, I don't consider them inhumans. I feel that this is the type of footage we would like to see more. No, let me make it clear. WE MUST SEE MORE! I am not saying that Blizzard needs to make Oracles more often (even though I would LOVE it). The online league format makes it almost impossible for it to become a weekly/monthly show. There are many other ways of engaging them in a more non-formal interview format.

Last month I went to Katowice for HGC Western Clash. There, besides 1 on 1 interviews, I also filmed all post match press conferences (I recommend checking those out for anyone who missed them https://www.youtube.com/user/HencyHeccu/videos). Many viewers had no idea those even existed. Because of this, one question was often repeated in the reddit posts: why doesn't Blizzard post them officially? Most likely they have a good reason for that. My best guess: if they post officially everything that happens in the press room during a tournament, there will be almost no unique content that creators can use. I would end up posting only 3 videos (instead of 9), so I personally can only say "Thank you" for the opportunity. In these videos, you can notice that players act less serious than they usually do during Blizzard´s HGC interviews (reason: they are doing something less official and are not alone, but with bros). This often results in interesting conversations, because they get to be themselves.

I am not trying to encourage other content creators to drop their current projects and concentrate on making only HGC content. If you're into making highlights/plays/fails videos or guides related to HotS, you should keep on doing them. I just hope to encourage everyone to think a little bit about this: is there a way to involve pro-players in your projects? If yes, do it! It would be a win-win situation for both parties. :)

P.S. I am looking for an organisation, which would be interested in publishing interviews with HGC pro players. ;)

Hey Please Be Nice to Newer People

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 04:10 PM PDT

So I know I am only level 140 something. But I have played the game off and on since alpha. I'm not a pro, I'm not a newbie. I have played significant amounts of dota.

Just don't tell me I am griefing, or that I should cancer and die all while I am doing my placement matches.

I play HoTS because it has less toxicity than LoL or Dota2, please don't reverse that by discouraging learning players from even doing their placement matches. I know there's the concern that I am bringing you down, but it just means I am lower rank than you and I am trying to get placed so I can learn with people on my tier.

the best way to nerf fenix

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 04:32 AM PDT

we all know Fenix is busted. his hotslogs winrate is sitting at a healthy 63%. he's sturdy, he has burst, he has sustained damage, he has mobility, he has self sustain, he has no mana costs, and he has a good talent tree.

how do you balance him?

we just need one easy fix. any time you click somewhere while playing fenix, there should be about a 50% chance that he starts walking forward, then pauses, then walks backward, then moves back and forth for a little while, and then stops and does nothing. this lore accurate change would force fenix players to think twice before committing to killing their woefully inadequate opposition.

For the love of hots, Stukov does not need a nerf

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 07:07 PM PDT

recently, I have begun to see a few people ask for stukov nerfs. This is a balanced hero we are talking about here.

Some Have said that he must get nerfed to bring him in line with other supports, but this simply won't work. Heroes like Ana and Auriel are struggling, and need buffs. They do NOT need balanced heroes to be nerfed to their lvls, because then there will be a 0 support meta.

TL;DR- if you bring heroes like stukov down to Ana's or Auriel's lvl, then no support will be worth playing anymore. It has already happened in HGC ( a few comps with no supports)

Is Abathur seeing play as a solo support a sign that healers have gotten too weak?

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 05:23 PM PDT

Watching HGC lately, I can't help but feel dismayed listening to the casters say a team has been choked out of supports after a team picks Malfurion and bans Stukov. There are 12 healers in the game, plus Tyrande and Tassadar, and you're telling me TEN of them aren't even an option?? Plus, now, twice we've seen Abathur played as a solo Support, once by Method and once by Heroes Hearth. Method even won that game, against the runners up at the Western Clash no less.

Have healers gotten too weak? Only a few of them (if you count Uther and Rehgar) are considered competitively viable at the moment, and we're actually starting to see no-Support comps see success at the highest level of play. Did the Supportpocalypse go too far? If so, which parts of it were too much?

What if HotS had a large roster like LoL? (130+ heroes)

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 10:19 AM PDT

https://i.imgur.com/kETST2o.jpg

Inspired by: https://www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/33ripr/heroes_of_the_storm_in_2018/

A friend and I were discussing on how much the game has progressed since we first started playing in beta. The roster has truly evolved over time with major nostalgic heroes entering the game one by one. This got me to thinking, "what will the roster look like once we reach LoL's size?". I remembered this old thread back from 2015 that fantasized on what our roster would look like in three years and surprisingly we've seen quite a few of the heroes added. I decided I wanted to make my own version of my friend's groups guesses (as well as a few personal requests) determining which heroes would add interesting kits/abilities or was highly desired by the community.

Note: I do know that there is still a lot of major heroes missing, especially from WoW and HS, but I wanted to try and keep the number reasonable and near LoL without adding all the essentials and hitting near 200 heroes lol so heroes like Tirion, Ysera, and Purtricide (all frequently requested WC heroes) had to take the bench to make room for more interesting kits, missing archetypes, or requests. If there is enough demand for them, I can fit another 14 heroes on here comfortably but I can guarantee that not everyone will be happy with what gets chosen.

I ask you to be respectful and not spam things like, "Tirion (or X hero) is a way more important character that Y or Z!" as there is no way to please everyone. I'd also like to remind people that Blizzard puts out characters in whatever order they want, didn't matter if Fenix was 100x more desired than Probius or if people were begging for KT just to get 10 other WC assassins first. :P I made this for fun and thought it would be cool to use in a few years to see how many heroes actually made it in. Also, I know this isn't the best design job so I apologize for the names being out of order (wanted to do it in order but too much work for the little time I have) and the poor spacing in-between the slots.

Anyways, to the interesting part!
The breakdown:

  • First Row: Adria, Aidan, Anduin, Archimonde, Aysa, Baal
  • Second Row: Belial, Blackthorne, Brigitte, Cairne, Cydaea, Deathwing
  • Third Row: Deckard Cain, Devouring Ones (zergling swarm), Random-Brightwing, Doomfist, D2 Druid
  • Fourth Row: Duriel, Edwin Vancleef, Butcher-Fenix, Gargy the Gargoyle (WC3 unit), General Duke
  • Fifth Row: WC3 Goblin Alchemist, Garrosh-Kel'thuzad, Harth Stonebrew
  • Sixth Row: Hogger, Kerrigan-Lost Vikings, Imperius, Isendra (D2 Sorceress), Lt Morales-Malthael, Khadgar
  • Seventh Row: Lazarus, Medivh-Sgt Hammer, Lady Vashj
  • Eighth Row: Mal'Ganis, Mannaroth, Sonya-Valeera, Mira Han/Matt Horner, McCree
  • Ninth Row: Mei, Mekkatorque, Valla-Zul'jin, Mengsk, Mercy, Mephisto, Millhouse Manastorm, Overmind, Pharah, Queen Lana'thel
  • Tenth Row: Reaper, Reinhardt, Snake Sanders (Rock n Roll Racer), Soldier 76, Sombra, Talandar, Terokk, Tosh, Ulrezaj (Dark Archon villian), Velen, Vorazun, Vol'jin, Widowmaker, Winston, Yrel, Zenyatta
  • Eleventh Row: Garona, Broll Bearmantle, Grommash, Rohanna, Ithereal, Zoltun Kulle, Cow King, Consol the Peasant

Universe counts:
* Diablo: 30
* Overwatch: 21
* StarCraft: 27
* WarCraft: 62
* Classic: 3
Total: 143

Do you play QM with the intent to win, or do you play QM just to play the game?

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 04:47 PM PDT

I'm really curious the mindset of the playerbase. Because as soon as I open this game, I play to win. Whether it's AI, HL, TL, UR and yes, even QM. I play to win.

Maybe I am on a new hero that I don't know how to use.

Maybe I am on a hero I know, but with a new spec to try.

Either way, I am there to win.

Every time we are losing because people are making terrible mistakes, I say please, stop doing that. There is a better way.

Their answer "It's QM...who cares?"

Well, I care! It's 15-30 minutes of my time, and regardless of how trash our comp is, or how bad someone ult pick was, I still want to try to win.

It's like, as soon as someone queues for QM, they throw their entire toolbox of mechanics out the window and just #yolo all game for no reason.

What are your thoughts? Even in a "non-competitive" mode, do you play this game to win? I assume you don't throw AI games too, amirite?

Fenix vs Jimmy

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 04:23 PM PDT

AA

Fenix: 177dps (5 Range) or 89dps w/ splash (6.5 Range)

Jimmy: 180dps avg w/ Inspire (6.5 Range)

EHP

Fenix: 2000HP

Jimmy: 1302/1742HP

Q

Fenix: 290-435 dmg w/ 25% slow for 4 seconds. 12 sec cooldown

Jimmy: 240 dmg w/ knockback. 12 sec cooldown

Escape

Fenix: Long Range Teleport

Jimmy: None

Ults

Fenix:

  1. Planet Cracker- 420dps aoe w/ unlimited range
  2. Purification Salvo- 430-645 damage up to 5 heroes. Can be interrupted

Jimmy:

  1. Hyperion- 66dps up to 4 enemies. Easily avoided but damages structures
  2. Raynor's Raiders- 100dps to one target. Can be destroyed

Defensive Ability

Fenix: Shield Capacitor - 800HP with a 5 second cooldown and a 10 second recharge (off the top)

Jimmy: Adrenaline Rush - 440HP with a 30 second cooldown (only triggers at >30% HP, can be bursted through)

Author's Thoughts

While having very similar kits, Fenix gets a clear edge over Raynor in almost every category. Plasma Cutter out damages Penetrating Round in addition to having an always useful 25% slow where as PR has a knockback which is good for peeling but detrimental on the offensive. Raynor's low EHP, inferior defensive ability, and lack of an escape make him a much easier target for enemy teams. Fenix's Ults eclipse Raynor's in terms of burst in addition to being more difficult to counter/avoid. Finally, Fenix benefits from a much stronger talent tree that generally grants higher bonuses, more flexible play styles, and greater talent/ability synergy. Raynor on the other hand has a plethora of talents that lack impact including an Adrenaline Rush build, underwhelming or late Penetrating Round talents, as well as talents/abilities that shoehorn Raynor into playing like a specialist though he serves the role of assassin (The lack of viable alternative talents is the real problem, especially on maps that consistently require Raynor out of lane.)

Recommendations for Raynor

  • Make revolution overdrive baseline for inspire
  • Make advanced optics baseline
  • Make Relentless leader his trait and bring back the relentless part (self cleanse)
  • Increase HP
  • Decrease Penetrating Round cooldown to 10 seconds
  • Put Adrenaline Rush talents in same tier
  • Introduce lvl1 quest talent that works outside of lanes (optional)
  • Rework/replace adrenaline rush (optional)
  • Complete talent rework (optional)

Recommendations for Fenix

  • Remove slow from plasma cutter. Give it to Phase Bomb after a warp
  • Increase Phase out time of warp to 1 second
  • Nerf Damage

Tyrande Whisperwind – Abilities, Quotes, and Skins Lore

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 10:00 AM PDT

It's that time of the week again; Friday I went through the lore of everyone's favorite Elune-worshipping, owl-throwing support-turned-semi-assassin, so today I'm going to go through all of Tyrande's in-game quotes, abilities, talents, and skins to cover all of the lore details and cultural references I could find. Fair warning, there's quite a lot of material to go through, but the point of these threads is to cover things as comprehensively as possible.

Tyrande's character lore thread

All previous "Lore of" episodes

Abilities

Tyrande in Heroes of the Storm is mainly based around the Priestess of the Moon, a hero unit for the night elf faction in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.

  • D: Hunter's Mark - Hunter's Mark is a World of Warcraft hunter ability which originally placed a mark on the target, revealing them and increasing all ranged damage taken for up to 5 minutes; this version of the spell is what inspired Tyrande's Hunter's Mark in Heroes. Hunter's Mark was removed from WoW in the Warlords of Draenor expansion, but was redesigned and re-added in Legion as a passive effect exclusive to hunters of the Marksmanship specialization. This current version of the spell bears little resemblance to its original incarnation or to Tyrande's trait in Heroes, so I won't go into detail on it.

  • Q: Light of Elune - Elune is a powerful moon goddess worshipped by the night elves, with the Sisterhood of Elune and its leader, the High Priestess of Elune, serving as the goddess' most devout followers. Originally believed by the night elves' dark troll ancestors to be a nocturnal deity that slept in the waters of the original Well of Eternity during daytime, Elune is associated with the larger of Azeroth's two moons — the White Lady — and is commonly depicted by night elf artisans as a beautiful night elf woman with silver hair and alabaster skin. According to legend, the nature demigod Cenarius who taught druidism to the night elves is the son of Elune and the great White Stag, Malorne. Elune's power can be called upon in many ways, such as healing wounds, redeeming corrupted beings such as satyrs, and calling down bolts of destructive magical energy from the heavens. Besides the night elves, Elune also plays a role in the culture of the tauren, who refer to her as Mu'sha, the left eye of the Earth Mother (the right eye being An'she, the sun).

  • W: Sentinel - This ability is based on two different spells from WC3: Sentinel and Scout. Sentinel is a researchable ability for the night elf Huntress unit that allows the Huntress to summon an owl spirit to perch at a target tree, providing vision of the surrounding area. The owl lasts permanently (unless the tree is destroyed), and each Huntress unit can only use Sentinel once. In World of Warcraft: Legion, Sentinel also appears as a talent for Marksmanship hunters which summons a spectral owl to fly around a target area for 18 seconds, applying Hunter's Mark to all enemies every 6 seconds. Scout, on the other hand, is a Priestess of the Moon ability that summons a controllable Owl Scout that can be used to survey the map. The owl cannot attack and only lasts a limited amount of time, but can also fly over terrain, see invisible units, and is invulnerable and unattackable, making it an extremely useful tool for spying on enemies. The idea of throwing owls in a straight line across the battlefield and damaging enemies along the way is unique to the Heroes of the Storm version of Sentinel, however.

  • R1: Starfall - Starfall is the Ultimate ability for WC3 Priestesses of the Moon. The spell calls down a shower of falling stars that automatically hits all nearby enemy units for heavy damage. The spell can be devastating, but the priestess must remain stationary and continue channeling the spell until it ends to achieve the full effect. In World of Warcraft, Starfall is a non-channeled Balance druid ability that calls down waves of falling stars at a target area for 8 seconds, dealing moderate damage to enemies in the area.

  • R2: Shadowstalk - This ability appears to be based on Shadowmeld, a magical ability granted to the night elves by Elune that allows them to become invisible and hide from enemies. In WC3, Shadowmeld is only possessed by female night elf units and automatically activates whenever the unit stops moving and is not in combat during nighttime, though it can also be activated when in combat to immediately enter stealth. In World of Warcraft, Shadowmeld can be used by night elves of both genders to enter a form of Stealth until the ability is cancelled or the player moves.

Talents
  • Level 1: Ranger - Like in many fantasy universes, rangers are an iconic part of elven civilization in Warcraft. However, they are mainly found among high/blood elves, with only a handful of night elf rangers being known to exist, as night elves generally use other titles than "ranger". However, interestingly enough, during the development of Warcraft III Blizzard planned to add a human hero unit in the form of a female half-elf Ranger. This unit was eventually scrapped; the character model was reused for a couple of named NPCs in the final game (namely Shandris Feathermoon, Jennalla Deemspring, and the living version of Sylvanas Windrunner), while several of its abilities were repurposed for the Priestess of the Moon — the same type of hero unit which Tyrande was classified as in WC3 and which serves as the inspiration for Tyrande's abilities in Heroes of the Storm. I personally kind of doubt that this Heroes of the Storm talent name was meant to be a reference to an obscure scrapped unit from WC3's early development, but I thought it was too interesting to not mention.

  • Level 4: Kaldorei Resistance - The Kaldorei Resistance is the name given to the united army that fought against and ultimately defeated the invading Burning Legion and their Highborne allies during the War of the Ancients, 10,000 years ago. It mainly consisted of night elves but was later joined by other races in the form of earthen, furbolgs, tauren, and even dragons and Wild Gods. Tyrande, Illidan, and Malfurion all played major roles in the resistance during the course of the war.

  • Level 7: Darnassian Archery - Darnassus is the capital city of the night elves, nestled among the western boughs of the World Tree Teldrassil. Tyrande leads the Sisterhood of Elune from the Temple of the Moon in southern Darnassus.

  • Level 7: Trueshot Aura - The commanding presence of priestesses of the moon causes them to boost the morale of their warriors, allowing them to strike with increased power and accuracy. In WC3, Trueshot Aura is a passive Priestess of the Moon ability that gives nearby friendly units a bonus to their ranged attack damage. In World of Warcraft, Trueshot Aura was a passive hunter ability that granted 10% increased melee and ranged attack power to all nearby allies, but it was removed in the Legion expansion.

  • Level 13: Harsh Moonlight - In World of Warcraft, Harsh Moonlight is an NPC ability that calls on the power of Elune to deal Arcane damage over time to an enemy. The ability is currently only used by two NPCs in the entire game: Ban'thalos, a rare spirit owl occasionally found flying around Mount Hyjal, and Dori'thur, Tyrande's own spirit owl companion in the Temple of the Moon in Darnassus.

  • Level 20: Iceblade Arrows - Iceblade Arrow was a type of high-level ammunition that could be crafted by players with the Engineering profession in World of Warcraft, back during the days when each attack with a ranged weapon cost physical ammunition that the player had to store in their inventory. Iceblade Arrow was removed along with the rest of the ammunition mechanic in the Cataclysm expansion.

Removed talents
  • Level 4: Searing Arrows (removed in 2.25.4) - Priestess of the moon can call upon the powers of Elune to imbue their arrows with searing magical energy. In WC3, Searing Arrows is a Priestess of the Moon ability that can be toggled to add bonus damage to the priestess' ranged basic attacks but drains mana with every shot. In WoW, if Tyrande is attacked by Horde players in Darnassus, she uses an ability called Searing Arrow, which shoots a flaming arrow at an enemy and inflicts Fire damage.
Poke quotes

Tyrande's unit quotes in Warcraft III

"The goddess calls." - One of Tyrande's select quotes in WC3.

"Anu therador mali." - One of Tyrande's poke quotes in WC3. While this is clearly a phrase from Darnassian, the night elf language, it is one that has yet to receive an official translation (or even an official transcription) from Blizzard.

"Do not presume that because I am a priestess my fury has been checked." - Tyrande and other priestesses of the moon serve not only as peaceful priests and healers, but also — when the situation demands it — ride into battle dressed in armor and armed with bows and Elune's power to safeguard night elf lands (though World of Warcraft has to some extent toned down a lot of the more martial aspects of the night elves' culture seen in Warcraft III, so it's not particularly common to see the more warlike version of priestess of the moon in WoW).

"Here, hold this apple for a moment. Alright, now put it on your head. Perfect. [nocks arrow] It's been a quite a while since I've used this bow. [fires bow]" - References the trope of a marksman shooting an apple off someone's head, a common motif in Germanic legends, particularly that of the Swiss folk hero Wiliam Tell.

"This is my owl. There are many like it, but this one reveals foes." - Reference to the Rifleman's Creed, which is learned by all Marines of the United States Marine Corps and whose very first line reads: "This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine". The creed is also referenced by one of the poke quotes of the night elf Huntress unit in WC3: "This is my owl. There are many like it, but this one is mine."

"I am celebrating my 29th birthday next week! ...For the ten thousandth time." - Like Illidan and Malfurion, Tyrande is over 10,000 years old. The WC3 manual specifically states that she was 13,836 years old by the time of the Third War, but some of the character ages presented in the manual don't make much sense given later lore developments, so they may or may not be canon anymore. The night elves were originally granted immortality by the magical lake known as the Well of Eternity. The Well was destroyed at the end of the War of the Ancients, but Nozdormu, Dragon Aspect of Time, restored the elves' immortality by adding his blessing to the World Tree Nordrassil, allowing the elves to live forever and be immune to aging and disease, only dying due to violence or accidents. Nordrassil was heavily damaged at the end of the Third War and the night elves' immortality was lost, but since it's only been around 12 years in-universe since that happened, it's unclear how long the night elves can naturally live when not immortal.

"Has anyone seen my cat? It feels like it's been years since I've seen her! Here, kitty, kitty, kitty!" - Refers to Ash'alah, a female frostsaber cat who has served as Tyrande's faithful mount and companion since before the War of the Ancients. In WC3, just as generic Priestess of the Moon hero units were permanently mounted on frostsaber tigers, Tyrande was always seen riding on Ash'alah. As is pointed out by this quote, Ash'alah is absent from Heroes (the closest we can get to replicating her is the Eclipse Lunar Tiger mount), but the frostsaber has appeared a handful of times in World of Warcraft, starting with the Mists of Pandaria expansion.

"You know, when women ran things here in Kalimdor, we experienced an era of peace. Then the men woke up, and now we face a new war every other year." - After the War of the Ancients, many male night elves became druids, and as part of a pact with the green Dragon Aspect Ysera they would periodically hibernate for centuries at a time in barrow dens so that their spirits could roam the verdant spirit realm known as the Emerald Dream. While the druids slept, the task of defending Kalimdor mainly fell on Tyrande and the all-female Sentinel Army, who successfully kept the peace in the forests during what became known as the Long Vigil. During the Third War, Tyrande and the Sentinels realized they couldn't face the Legion alone and so awakened many of the druids. As members of the Alliance, the night elves have since been involved in numerous wars and conflicts, particularly against the Alliance's rival faction, the Horde.

"[door bell and sound of a door opening] Greetings! My name is Tyrande, and this is Sister Shandris. Do you have some spare time to talk about Elune? Here, take this pamphlet-- [door slams shut] Oh! Hello?" - A reference to the door-to-door preaching of various real-world religious groups like Jehovah's Witnesses. Shandris Feathermoon is Tyrande's adopted daughter and lieutenant. A skilled archer, Shandris was trained in the ways of Elune's divine magic by Tyrande, and currently serves as the General of the Sentinels, the main military force of the night elf nation.

"What the--? How long have these leaves been in my hair? Why does no one tell me these things?!" - While they can't be seen on her Heroes of the Storm model, Tyrande has a number of leaves nestled in her hair. They are most prominently seen on the night elf version of the Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos cover artwork, and while they couldn't be seen on Tyrande's original World of Warcraft model (which was just a generic female night elf model anyway), they are indeed present on her updated World of Warcraft model, added in patch 4.3.

"I am High Priestess Tyrande, champion of justice. In the name of Elune, I will punish you!" - Reference to the titular character of the Japanese manga series Sailor Moon and her taunt phrase "I am Sailor Moon! I stand for love and I also stand for justice. And in the name of the Moon, I will punish you!" Somewhat similarly to Sailor Moon's association with the moon, Tyrande is the high priestess of the moon goddess Elune.

"Goddess, make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true, and if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die with an empty quiver." - I'm not actually sure whether or not this is specifically referencing something.

"I miss having a millennia or two of girl time." - Another reference to how the female night elf Sentinels protected Kalimdor on their own while the male druids spent long periods of time hibernating during the Long Vigil.

"Malfurion and I have one rule that defines our relationship: no shapeshifting. I am not into that." - Though Malfurion does not have any shapeshift abilities in Heroes of the Storm, druids are known for their ability to magically shapeshift into a variety of animal forms for various purposes. For example, they can transform into bears to absorb damage, cats to devastate enemies with fang and claw, and storm crows and sea lions to quickly travel through air and water.

"Good night, forest. Good night, tortoise. Good night, caves, and good night, glaives. Good night, Feathermoon, and good night, Elune." - Reference to the 1947 American children's book Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. The mention of glaives is a reference to the three-bladed glaive weapons favored by night elf Sentinels, including Tyrande. Particularly large glaives are also used as projectiles by a type of elven siege weapon called glaive throwers. "Feathermoon" is a reference to the aforementioned Shandris Feathermoon.

Interaction quotes

(Generic) Tyrande: "Death to all who threaten the wilds!" - Possibly a callback to one of Tyrande's select quotes in WC3: "Someone threatens the wilds?"

(Generic - agreement) Tyrande: "None stand against the kaldorei." - Kaldorei (meaning "children of the stars") is the night elves' own name for themselves.

(To Azshara - NYI) Tyrande: "You will never be forgiven, Azshara." / "I have no words for you, traitor." - Queen Azshara was once the adored ruler of the night elf empire, but she and her Highborne betrayed their people by allying with and opening the way for the Burning Legion to invade Azeroth, causing the War of the Ancients. After the war and the Great Sundering that followed, Azshara and her followers were transformed into aquatic, snake-like naga by the Old Gods, and to this day they still fight against their hated night elf cousins.

Garrosh: "All of Kalimdor will belong to the orcs! Remember that." Tyrande: "We remain allied through convenience. Do not make it... inconvenient." / Tyrande: "[sigh] The goddess seems to be testing my resolve." Garrosh: "And you are testing mine!" - After being named warchief of the Horde at the start of Cataclysm, Garrosh began trying to conquer all of Kalimdor's resources for the Horde (and particularly the orcs), especially the night elves' ancestral homeland of Ashenvale Forest with its vast lumber reserves.

Tyrande: "Freeing you is my greatest mistake." Illidan: "And loving you is mine." / Illidan: I have only ever fought for you, Tyrande!" Tyrande: "I have no time for your deceit, Illidan." - Illidan, Malfurion, and Tyrande have had a complex relationship. They grew up as children together, but though both Malfurion and Illidan loved Tyrande, she ultimately chose Malfurion as her mate. Illidan betrayed the night elves during and after the War of the Ancients by first temporarily siding with the Burning Legion and then, after the war's end, creating a second Well of Eternity, the latter of which led the night elves to call him "Betrayer" and imprison him below Mount Hyjal. 10,000 years later, Tyrande freed Illidan, believing he could prove a useful ally against the Burning Legion, but when Illidan transformed into a demon to use the Legion's own power against them, Malfurion banished him. Illidan's subsequent actions caused him to come into conflict with the night elves, but he did later save Tyrande's life by helping Malfurion rescue her from the undead Scourge. Illidan ultimately traveled to the realm of Outland, which he eventually came to rule until various events and actions led to him being killed years later, his last words being "Tyrande". In the WoW short story Seeds of Faith, Tyrande tells Malfurion that "Illidan's fate was unfortunate, Mal. We were all helpless against it. His madness overwhelmed him until there was nothing left."

Tyrande: "Are you ready, my love?" Malfurion: "After you." / Malfurion: "Shall we, my love?" Tyrande: "Still convinced you can keep up with me?" - Tyrande and Malfurion grew close during the War of the Ancients, and after the war they helped lead the night elves together as mates, though Malfurion inevitably had to enter a slumber to enter the Emerald Dream. During the Third War, Tyrande awakened Malfurion, and together they rallied the other druids and ultimately worked with the other races of Azeroth to defeat the Legion. Malfurion vanished again shortly after when his spirit became lost in the Emerald Dream, but Tyrande ultimately led efforts to rescue him from the menace of the Emerald Nightmare, after which the two finally married and began jointly ruling the night elves as husband and wife.

(To Shandris - NYI) Tyrande: "Steel yourself, Shandris. Our enemy is cunning and will not relent." / "May our arrows fly true." - As previously mentioned, Shandris Feathermoon is the General of the Sentinels as well as Tyrande's adoptive daughter, student, and lieutenant.

Tyrande: "It gladdens my heart to see you once more, friend." Varian: "Likewise, high priestess." - Tyrande and Varian are both leaders of the Alliance and have worked with each other on numerous occasions.

Varian: "Let our enemy make the first mistake, Tyrande." Tyrande: "Of course." - This is likely a reference to "A Little Patience", a 3-player scenario in World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria in which Tyrande and Varian face the dilemma of a group of Horde soldiers that have barricaded themselves inside the sacred Temple of the Red Crane. Tyrande advocates rushing in and striking as quickly as possible before the orcs can get reinforcements, but Varian decides on a more cautious, patient, and ultimately successful approach, at one point telling the players in the scenario "Don't charge in. Let them make the first mistake."

Kill quotes

Azshara (NYI): "Hah, your skill is as faded as your beauty." - As ruler of the night elves, Azshara was beloved by her people for her magical prowess and almost otherworldly charisma and beauty. After the War of the Ancients, Azshara accepted a pact with the Old Gods and was transformed into the first of the monstrous, serpentine naga that haunt Azeroth's oceans.

Brightwing: "A shame to kill a child of Ysera." - Ysera the Awakened was the Dragon Aspect of Dreams and ruler of the green dragonflight, the dragons responsible for safeguarding the Emerald Dream, a realm that faerie dragons like Brightwing also inhabit and protect. However, it's unlikely that faerie dragons are literally biologically related to Ysera, as faerie dragons aren't actually dragons.

Demon: "These lands are under my protection, demon!" - During the Third War, when the Burning Legion returned to invade Azeroth once more, Tyrande and her Sentinels fought to protect the forests of Kalimdor, though eventually found themselves forced to awaken the druids and later ally with the Alliance and Horde to achieve victory.

Grommash (NYI): "Your punishment has been long overdue, outlander!" - During the Third War, Grommash Hellscream and his Warsong orcs traveled to Ashenvale to establish a settlement and began ravaging and deforesting the woods, enraging the Sentinels and Cenarius. Grom and his forces were eventually driven to drink the blood of the demon Mannoroth to defeat Cenarius, becoming slaves to the Legion in the process until Grom sacrificed himself to kill Mannoroth. "Outlander" is the term that Tyrande and the other night elves used to refer to the Alliance and Horde forces that landed on Kalimdor during the war.

Illidan: "Oh, Illidan. May peace find you now."

Malfurion: "My love, forgive me."

Sgt. Hammer: "Not even gnomes would create such an abomination." - The gnomes are a diminutive, highly intelligent humanoid race who famously serve as the tinkers and inventors of the Alliance, constantly creating various inventions and machines for various purposes. Apparently the advanced technology of a terran siege tank reminds Tyrande of gnomish inventions. There isn't much (canon) information on how the night elves view gnomes, but generally they seem to avoid using modern technology in favor of the more natural forms of weaponry and magic they've been using for millennia.

Killing Tyrande quotes

Garrosh: "Ashenvale belongs to the Warsong!" - The Warsong clan is the orc clan Garrosh belongs to. A faction of Warsong orcs called the Warsong Outriders serve one of the main elements of the Horde's push into Ashenvale.

Illidan: "Tyrande, no! What have I done?!"

Lunara: "Are you sure Elune favors you? Hah." - Lunara is the daughter of Cenarius, who is himself allegedly the son of Elune and Malorne, the White Stag, thus making Lunara Elune's granddaughter. This may or may not give her a closer connection to the moon goddess than Tyrande, the leader of Elune's priesthood.

Malfurion: "My love, I am sorry."

Valla: "Don't blame your weapon, blame your aim."

Other quotes

"As the goddess wills." / "By Elune." / "Immediately." / "So be it." (move) - Move quotes from Tyrande's WC3 unit.

"Burn with the goddess' light!" / "Feel the wrath of the heavens!" (Starfall) - Probably references to a line said by Tyrande in the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne mission "Balancing the Scales": "Then these foul [naga] beasts shall feel the wrath of the goddess' light!"

"Elune hide you!" / "We meld with the shadow!" (Shadowstalk) - References to the aforementioned Shadowmeld, the Elune-granted night elven stealth ability that Shadowstalk appears to be based on. "Meld with the shadow" of course sounds similar to "Shadowmeld", while "Elune hide you" is a reference to how the elves' ability to Shadowmeld is derived from Elune.

"Farewell." / "Goddess watch over you." (social - goodbye) / "What brings you here?" (social - hello) - References to quotes spoken by generic night elf NPCs in World of Warcraft.

"Anu'dora." (move) / "Hinduli rethal!" / "For Kalimdor!" / "In the name of Elune." (attack) - References to attack quotes from Tyrande's WC3 unit. In WC3, one of her attack lines was "In the name of Cenarius", but here, that particular line seems to have been replaced by "In the name of Elune".

"I am not a quest giver anymore. I have better things to do than just stand here." (shop) - In WoW, Tyrande can primarily be found as a quest giver in the Temple of the Moon in Darnassus. Like most quest giver NPCs from the earlier days of WoW, this version of Tyrande mostly remains stationary and always stands in the same location. She does have more of an active quest giver role in Legion, though, moving to different areas as the storylines in Val'sharah and Suramar progress.

"I heed the voice of Elune!" (queue/lockin) - One of Tyrande's WC3 select quotes and WoW click quotes.

"Ishnu-alah." / "May Elune light your path." (shop) - "Ishnu-alah" is a Darnassian greeting which translates to "Good fortune to you". One of Tyrande's WoW click quotes is "Ishnu-alah. May Elune light your path."

"Tor ilisar'thera'nal!" (attack) - An ancient Darnassian battle cry which translates to "Let our enemies beware!".

Skins

As discussed in the IGN article "How Blizzard's Heroes Went From Concepts to Icons" and this DeviantArt post by Luke Mancini, Tyrande's base appearance in Heroes of the Storm is a unique compromise between her armored, battle-ready Warcraft III design and the priestly robes she wears in World of Warcraft.

  • Banshee - Banshees are tortured undead spirits of female elves (the male equivalents are known as spectres), notable for their unholy screams and ability to possess living creatures. Most banshees are either the remnants of Highborne and other night elves killed in ancient times (in which case they are usually found haunting night elf ruins) or from high elves that were slaughtered during the Scourge's invasion of the high elf kingdom of Quel'Thalas. In the modern day, most banshees either remain part of the Scourge or are members of the Forsaken under the Banshee Queen Sylvanas Windrunner.

  • Blood Elf - This skin depicts Tyrande as a sin'dorei or blood elf, the high elves (descendants of the Highborne night elves exiled from Kalimdor after the War of the Ancients for continuing to use arcane magic) who were renamed by Kael'thas Sunstrider and embraced a new cultural identity after the undead Scourge invaded their kingdom of Quel'Thalas. Aside from simply making Tyrande look like a blood elf with pink skin, green eyes, and red/gold/green armor, this skin features a lot of neat details. The description refers to Blood Elf Tyrande as Tyrande Windrunner, a descendant of the first Sun Queen and the blood elven Ranger General. "Windrunner" and the title of Ranger General are references to Sylvanas Windrunner, who served as the Ranger-General of Silvermoon (the leader of the Farstrider rangers and commander of Quel'Thalas' defenses) before she was killed and raised into undeath during the Scourge invasion of her homeland. "Sun Queen" is a reference to "Sun King", the title that Kael'thas Sunstrider eventually took for himself. In terms of visuals, the crescent moon behind Blood Elf Tyrande's head is replaced by a symbol resembling the stylized phoenix that represents the high elves "rising from the ashes" as blood elves and serves as the emblem of the blood elf capital of Silvermoon City. All of Blood Elf Tyrande's abilities have a more fiery, golden appearance typical of the blood elves and their association with fire and the sun, as opposed to the pale blue glow associated with Elune and the night elves. Blood Elf Tyrande's Sentinel owl is altered to resemble a phoenix.

    • High Elf - The quel'dorei or high elves was the original name of the race before Kael'thas renamed them to blood elves. Biologically speaking, high elves and blood elves are the same race, the differences between them mainly being cultural and political ones (blood elves tend to have green eyes as a result of slight demonic corruption, but any high elf spending time around demonic energy would get green eyes as well). Those high elves who chose not to rename themselves blood elves are few in number and tend to remain loyal to the Alliance. As reflected in this skin, high elves tend to favor blue clothing and architecture to distinguish themselves from blood elves.
  • Eagle Eye - Part of a shared series of superhero-themed skins, this skin depicts Tyrande as a hero named Tyrande Solarwind, who has arrived in New York City after her home planet was destroyed by the evil Eternal Empire (Star Lord Leoric and Star Lich Kel'Thuzad's faction).

  • High Priestess (former Master skin) - High Priestess of Elune is Tyrande's title as the leader of the Sisterhood of Elune. The skin itself isn't based on anything from canon, but the description references how the night elves were granted immortality and immunity to disease and aging by the World Tree Nordrassil until Nordrassil was badly damaged at the end of the Third War, causing the night elves to once again become mortal.

  • Warden - The wardens are the highest-ranking elite members of the Watchers, an organization that serve as the jailors and marshals of night elf society and was originally formed out of volunteers from the Sisterhood of Elune to safeguard the prison of the Betrayer, Illidan Stormrage. Wardens serve as the night elves' special police force in Kalimdor, and are often employed as assassins, jailors, and bounty hunters, with the most (in)famous warden of them all being the former leader of the Watchers, Maiev Shadowsong. Warden Tyrande is part of a shared series of skins that depict an alternate history in which the roles of several major night elf characters have been swapped, with Malfurion becoming the Betrayer and Illidan becoming a druid, while Maiev became the High Priestess of Elune and Tyrande became a warden to stand guard over the imprisoned Malfurion. Warden Tyrande is modeled after the classic warden appearance, with features such as an owl-like helmet, a ponytail of white hair, and a heavy fur-trimmed cloak lined with metal blades. Warden Tyrande's bow and the crescent moon behind her head are altered to resemble umbra crescents, the iconic circular glaive weapons favored by many Watchers.

    • Stormwind Warden - Based on the typical color scheme seen on guards and footmen from the human kingdom of Stormwind, arguably the leading nation of the Alliance.
    • Sun Warden - Red, green, and gold is the typical color scheme associated with the blood elves and high elves, who rejected the worship of Elune to instead revere the sun (which is what this skin's name is referring to).
Miscellaneous

Tyrande's dance animation is a reference to the music video for the 2008 Beyoncé song "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)". This is also used as the dance animation for female goblins in World of Warcraft.

I'm not really sure who to cover for the next thread, but in any case doubt I'll post a lore thread next week due to the upcoming PAX announcement (unless the new hero reveal is of a Warcraft character, of course). Either way, though, I'll probably be back with another lore thread Soon™-ish. Maybe.

Here are a few changes that I think could help Hero League quality.

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 09:47 AM PDT

Here are a few proposed ideas to help improve the competitive experience and quality of HL.

  • 1) Remove seeding from other modes except previous seasons of HL. There is no reason HL should seed from QM, which could be seen as a random or an exploitable way to gain quick mmr. Plus, some heroes thrive in QM (and others don't) allowing easy mmr for initial HL placements.

  • 2) Have less seasons, perhaps only 1 or 2 max seasons per year. Grinding, season ending, placing lower than previous rank, then re-grinding just to get into the same rank you were previously, is exhausting; especially if you have some bad placement matches. Lengthening the seasons will allow players to climb ranks steadily, or at the very least, be playing at their correct rank, allowing them to learn from their mistakes and grow as a player, making the grind more rewarding.

  • 3) Add placements for players NEW to Hero League ONLY. Placements should only be used when someone is beginning their Hero League adventure to access where they belong. Max placement should be Plat 3, Plat 5 or Gold 1 and should be a grind from there. Any Diamond/Master/GM worth their salt can climb out of Plat.

  • 4a) Remove season placements for players who have played previous HL seasons. If 3) was successful, there should be no reason to continue to need placements.

  • or

  • 4b) Significantly reduce placements for players who have previously played seasons, and only use it as a tool for movement (ie: those that feel they are stuck in mmr hell). But can not move more than 1 or two ranks up or down. I personally still find placements for players who have already played Hero League somewhat oppressive. Seeing as you can drop ranks from it for having bad matches. I like the idea of 4a) the best.

  • 5) For the new players entering Hero League, have 20 placements instead of 10 to decide correct placement.

  • 6) Add rank points decay for GM/Master. Nothing crazy, but something to keep players from sitting on the top without having to do anything all season. This would also go hand in hand with 2) and having longer seasons.

  • 7) Ban new heroes entering the nexus from HL for at least 1 week on release to correct bugs/scaling/broken talents. Have the option to practice them in Unranked, but not in competitive modes.

  • 8) Possibly add another round of draft bans. Some people argue this will only effect pro games, but either way, with the amount of heroes in the game and the need for reason 7) alone, I think it would improve the QoL for draft.

  • 9) Add Hero swaps in HL Draft

Edit to Add Team League Suggestions:

  • TL1a) To clear up smurfing and improve team quality is by not allowing teammates to be any more than 1 league away. Ie: If you are Master, the lowest player you can play with is Diamond 5; while the highest is GM. If you are Gold 3, the lowest is Silver 3 and highest is Plat 3.

  • or

  • TL1b) Remove individual rank and make it a team based rank. Similar to the old WoW Arena teams where mmr was based off of the team and not one person. When someone leaves the team, the MMR is lost and the team starts over. However, this could maybe cause it's own problems as people could disband to smurf up another team; but could also work in favor, as the title would be lost if not carried throughout the season. Meaning, if you make it to GM, and you disband the group before the season is over, you lose GM status. To make things more balanced, we could add in maybe a sub spot or two per season, where if someone gets kicked from the team, they could sub in a new player.

Any thoughts or suggestions to improve the ideas I presented? Please post below.

Master League, Hanzo solo boss

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 06:09 AM PDT

I played some HL games today on my Master 1k account. And there was a Hanzo in my game, who tried to solo boss. I made a gayzo clip and still can`t believe that this really happened:

Since it's April Fools, I rewatched a video that Punishment Sin made last year, and I realised that Talandar had Planet Cracker as one of his ultimates in that video.

Here it is. I just thought it was a funny coincidence that Fenix has an ultimate that shares a name.
