We've had the Vault Dweller, the Chosen One, the Lone Wanderer, the Courier and the Sole Survivor. What would be a good title for the next Fallout protagonist?

Personally, I would like "The Drifter".

Fury Island, Mad Max themed spectacle island

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 09:26 AM PDT

Heavily inspired by Mad Max, Fury Island holds the "Fury Games" once a year to entertain the masses and who love watching people killing each other in giant death machines or dying to the islands creatures.

FURY ISLAND

-The Island's backstory-

Fury Island was built not long after the Great War. The island belonged to a raider slaver by the name of Lead Head, he was a merciless slaver and had little regard to human life and as a result many died in the construction of the island. Lead Head ran Fury Island like a business, the Sky Piercer has alittle bit of everything the common wastelander would want included but not limited to: meat, guns, junk, exotic chems, hookers, beer, music and more.

At the time of Lead Head's rule over Fury Island only raiders were allowed entry and the people fighting in the Fury Games were kidnapped wastelanders. One day Lead Head's slavers made the mistake of capturing the road warrior, killing his dog in the process. The road warrior swore he'd kill the ones responsible for his dog's death. With a team of other kidnapped wastelanders the road warrior freed all the slaves on Fury Island and they went after their former master. For years the slaves had to watch their family and friends forced to fight in the Fury Games and meet a gruesome death, for years they dreamed of ways to kill their master, for years they plotted in secret what they'd do with him. When the day finally came the liberated slaves fed Lead Head to his pet deathclaw "Gojira". In honor of the Road Warrior the freed slaves built a home for him on the island where he's always welcome.

To this day Fury Island is still up and running under new management, the freed slaves realized how great business was for Lead Head and they decided to keep the Fury Games going under new set of rules. Everyone is allowed entry into Fury Island, To fight in the Fury Games wastelanders need to sign up and with humungus cash prizes there was never a shortage of fighters. Once word spread of the islands liberation people from all over the the commonwealth came in droves to watch the carnage every year.

Everything was built in settlement mode. I'll post a modlist once I get back from work.

Would you prefer for the next protagonist to be a Vault Dweller or an outsider?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 06:47 AM PDT

For me, I'd want the next one to be an outsider, like in New Vegas. I mean, having a Vault Dweller is cool, but, after 4, I'd like to see someone who's already used to the Wasteland next.

FNV: Is Arcade Gannon kind of a douche?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 07:58 AM PDT

He starts spouting Latin at you the first time you meet him. I mean - anyone who does that in our world today is basically just saying "Look at how clever I am".

Surely to do it after a nuclear war, where most of the population is literally fighting for survival every day, is just doubly so?

Do people say Johnny guitar is their favorite song ironically?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 07:25 AM PDT

I have seen many people saying it is their favorite radio song, I just can't believe it. Maybe my taste in music is awful but I just hate that goddam song

(TIL) James was originally planned to become a Super Mutant

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 12:03 PM PDT

According to Fallout 3 official game manual and concept art, James, the father from Fallout 3 was supposed to be found in Vault 87 as a Super Mutant.

So instead of finding him in Vault 112 Tranquility Pods you would find him inside one of the Vault 87' FEV chambers, captured by other Super Mutants.

Upon encountering him he would recognize you and you would pretty much start the whole dad conversation. He would tell you about what happened to him and what he was doing in Vault 87 (searching for GECK). He would beg the player to end his life.

Another fun fact, Fawkes' model is directly derived from James' Super Mutant model. Basically Fawkes is what James could have been.

The reason why this was scrapped was because the writers (Specifically Emil, the guy who ruined Fallout 3's ending pretty much) felt it too "cliche" and emotionally detached. They wanted you to actually interact and attach to James' character before finally killing him.

Am I the only one who wants a Dallas/Ft worth fallout?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 12:11 PM PDT

You have essiently 3 major cities in an area the size of New Vegas. How awesome would it be to have a cowboy settlement in the cowboy stadium warring with the settlement across the street, in Texas Ranger(like Walker Texas ranger) Garb. You could even have a chuck Norris ghoul. Then you have Six flags a block a way from that. (That's just in Arlington) then you could have a rustic settlement in Ft. Worth and another settlement in Dallas that was like tin penny towers. Plus you have a joint airforce, army, navy and marines base in the mid cities.

There would be so much to do in that Fall out! The character could even be called the lone ranger, Or longmire.

Why is Fallout 3 & Fallout 4 so downvoted here?

Posted: 25 Apr 2018 09:23 PM PDT

Literally every person that just states his positive opinion about these games is downvoted to death, while God knows mention New Vegas or Classic games and you're at the top.

This fan base is becoming more and more toxic with each new Fallout game.

Each game is unique in it's own way, whether it's Fallout 3 or Fallout 4 or New Vegas - they are all good.

Creation Club - The Gun, Backpack and a Dog Bundle for 700 credits!

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 11:13 AM PDT

This bundle actually looks worth it! The yellow Labrador, Gauss rifle and the military backpack for 700 seems alright. The backpack is really customizable and the gauss rifle seems nice!

Just thought I'd let you all know.

Don't want to buy it? The institute pipboy is free for a week.

What Bethesda could use in Fallout from TES.

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 09:22 AM PDT

One thing that I extremely like about Skyrim is the fact that after the prologue you're a normal guy.

When you escape the Castle "thanks to" Alduin you're not speciale in any way. You don't even know that you're the dragonborn or anything.

You can do hundreds of hours of everything and discover your powers way after. The main quest after all is just a very long series of quest nothing more.

In Fallout, on the other hand, we have too much background and motivation: - your father is missing, find him. - someone shoot at you, find him. - your child is missing, find him.

It would be nice just to go out from the Vault without objectives of any kinds .

Another thing that would be nice is that faction should be separated by the main quest.

In Skyrim you can choose a faction (StormCloacks or Empire) and that doesn't affect the ending, you can choose guilds and that is not related to the ending either.

At the end when i play a run on Skyrim I feel more free than when I play any of the Fallouts.

What do you think about it?

A video I meant to post is gone, so here’s the story.

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 12:53 PM PDT

I had meant to post a video of one of my favorite Fallout moments, but I got a PS4 pro and lost the videos I had on my PS4, so I'll just share it.

I'm walking along, doing my adventuring thing, and I hear an explosion. A big one. Mini nuke loud. I immediately go into stealth, and sneak over to where it came from.

I get there and and see a dead super mutant facing a dead mole rat. Apparently they spawned in the same location and decided to duke it out. The super mutant was armed with a fat man, and mole rats like to get up close and personal, so it really didn't work out for either of them.

I think to myself "Score! Free mini nuke" and find it's a legendary weapon that deals 50% more limb damage.

So, by sheer luck (and the bravery of a plucky mole rat) I found a legendary Fat Man without having to fight a single thing or explore any building.

Who else has a "Wow that was way too easy" Fallout moment?

Something I found out in Automatron

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 10:39 AM PDT

So, I've been playing through automatron for about the fifth time, and I only just noticed that you can shoot the robots off the overhead conveyors in the mechanist's lair. (Specifically the large room with the Tankbot in the hangar at the far end)

My question is, is this a purely aesthetic thing, or does it actually reduce the number of bots you fight later on?

Miniature Fallout Diorama

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 04:34 PM PDT

Hey everyone, I just finished making a little diorama inspired by fallout. It's a Raider hideout.

https://i.imgur.com/6WT4d7V.jpg

This was a lot of fun to make. I made most of the building from foam board and popsicle sticks, and the figures are some modified wargaming miniatures (turned ww2 soldiers into raiders) and even made a miniature laser rifle for one of them :p

There's more photos in this gallery here: https://imgur.com/gallery/ZRG6KFR

Let me know what you think! I'm planning on making some more Fallout stuff soon. If you like this sort of thing I've done a bunch of Dark Souls dioramas on www.soulsinminiature.wordpress.com

Thanks for checking this out, hope you enjoyed it

Your ideal Fallout game?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 12:45 PM PDT

For me:

  • In Hawaii, New York, Florida, Canada, New Orleans, or Chicago.

  • The Enclave comes back AND you can finally join them.

  • A faction consisting of crazy Russian Ghouls with TONS of weaponry and explosives they stole from the Brotherhood and Enclave. Great allies to have - very dangerous enemies.

  • A Deathclaw pet/companion.

  • An outsider protagonist who isn't from a Vault (a la the Courier).

  • Enemy faction of Communist Ghouls, trying to take over the Wasteland to finish what they started. Either in main story or DLC.

  • Brotherhood is present, but as a minor faction (like in New Vegas).

  • You actually have controlling power over the factions you lead.

  • Make the voiced protagonist an option - or just get rid of it.

  • Multiple radio stations, not just a music one - like a talk or news radio.

  • More songs, including most of the ones used in the past.

  • Keep settlement building, but only to build houses/bases for you and your companions - not settlers.

  • A main story Raider faction.

That's all I've got for now. I will add later.

I have a new appreciation for the big leagues perk [spoiler]

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 02:16 AM PDT

So I'm playing my first survival run and my build is a stealth Melee character with 1 endurance, I'm a glass cannon. So I get to Kellogg, he has a skull next to his name and the room lights up so I know getting a sneak attack is gonna be a challenge but idk how else I'm gonna kill him. First attempt I talk to him and immediately run out of the room to hide. A synth comes looking for me and I kill it and go back to hiding. Next comes invisible Kellogg. I can't target him in vats so he eventually gets close enough to spot me and one shots me with his pistol. I'm thinking I'm screwed how am I supposed to kill him?! Next attempt I just go balls out. I talk to him and before he goes invisible I queue upas many attacks with pickmans blade as I can. I manage a lot of hits because I have 9 agility but I still only manage to get him to half health before I get out of vats. I panic and run for cover! He's on me though and while invisible is hitting me with his gun I presume but it's not doing a lot of damage. So I slash at him and eventually the bleed damage starts racking up and I take him out. YAY! I loot his corpse and make my way out of the fort pyrdwen flys over and I start on my way back to DC. About halfway to town I decide to check out my new loot. Kellogg armor is awesome, took his cyborg parts ect, but his gun is missing? It wasn't on his corpse! Suddenly I realize I must have disarmed him during my initial attack! That's why he didn't shoot me. The big leagues perk random disarm proc saved me. I can't imagine how many times I'd have fight him or creative strategies I'd have to employ to kill him otherwise. I had to run back and search the room for the gun which was under the desk he walks out from when you enter the room.

What perks/skills affect Jack, the unique Ripper?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 03:59 PM PDT

I'm in a playthrough where once I get this weapon, it'll mostly be the only weapon I use. I've seen videos where it can take down a super mutant overlord in just seconds. What should I do to make sure Jack does as much damage as it can do?

Fallout game set during War with China

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 03:44 PM PDT

How would you feel about a game being set during the War with China? So basically it's the Operation Anchorage DLC from fallout 3 but on a much larger scale, but set in Alaska. I loved Operation Anchorage so much, and I would love a full game played from this perspective
