[PC] Molag Bal Dialogue Playing Throughout The World

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 08:44 PM PDT

I teleported to a friend who was in Coldharbour today on one of my alts, and Molag Bal yelled at me because I haven't completed the main quest on that character yet. But now, I hear his voice everywhere in the world, on every character, calling me a worm every 5 minutes.

What I have tried to fix the problem:

  1. Relaunched the game.

  2. Ran a client repair.

I wanted to send a ticket to Zenimax but I don't think that's possible. What can I do?

Daily Login Rewards: Calm Your Tots?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 01:19 PM PDT

I am genuinely surprised at the polarized view of daily logins. As a long time player of Guild Wars 2, I was concerned at first at the implementation of daily login rewards. I thought since I was a regular but casual player, I'd fall behind.

Honestly, missing days really didn't have a strong impact of my play. They became a really nice welcome back each time I logged in but never felt mandatory. It allowed me to get a steady supply of bonus materials that actuslly saved me time from farming so I could use that extra time to experience the game.

I am very confused on where the idea that such a system would devalue the MMO experience. Again, these are treats you'd otherwise not be receiving via other means. So they aren't taking away alternate methods and forcing daily login. So honestly, where is any loss?

I am excited to get sample goods on login. Let me have a taste of what the crown store has to offer!

Edit: I'd like to mention that it is true that GW2 has a 28 day cycle of login rewards that doesn't reset until you log in the 28th time. So you never risk missing the end rewards. In this system it appears there is a set amount of logins per month you get rewards. So you can miss some time and still get everything in the month. I'd prefer the GW2 style, but I'll take what I can get.

Also, I was going to say there doesn't seem like anything locked behind the system but they did mention a new pet the first month. There is nothing saying that any limited/unique/exclusive items are going to be strictly at the end of the cycle. I haven't run the PTS, so I can't verify anything specifically. Any clarification is welcome.

I have a lot of free time, about 12 hours a day. Can I do all DLCs that come with ESO Plus in a month?

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 02:12 AM PDT

I can even add some hours during nighttime if necessary. I have ESO Plus free trial for a month and I was wondering if I could do the main quests for the 6 DLCs in that time considering how much free time I have, virtually almost all day. If not, which DLCs do you suggest I do during this month?

NOTE: I'm not interested in legendary gear and Pvp, I'm a solo player that explores and does quests for immersion and I like to go at my own pace. Not interested in ESO plus benefits except DLCS, and if I can play those for free then even better.

Fire's 1-year of ESO

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 09:09 AM PDT

This is to help new and emerging players know what they can do in ESO given their time constraints. I really appreciate that ESO is not a game where you have to kill yourself to get to the top 1%.

I've been playing for ESO for 1 year now. 1-3hrs per day, 6-7 days a week (with breaks for holidays). What have I done with that time?

-cleared all trials on vet in a progression group (including MoL and HoF, guild is probably in PC US top 50)

-cleared most vet trials on multiple roles (healer, tank, ranged dps, melee dps).

-earned or bought all Motifs in the game (except crown store exclusive)

-earned and spent around 13-15 million gold (mostly on motifs)

-earned and spent 6-7k master writ vouchers (spend vouchers on items, sell items for gold)

-built up 4 characters to take on the 4 PVE roles (healer, tank, ranged dps, melee dps). Earned most best-in-slot gear (still need gold Mending jewels, TFS gear, Sunderflame dagger, Dragonguard pieces).

-joined a trading guild (where half my money came from)

-beat vMA 7 times now (magsorc , stamDK – still no lightning staff)

-beat vDSA at least 30x, in multiple roles (have a leaderboard score thanks to nightblade heal-tank + three 35k dps)

-switched from petsorc to magsorc because petsorc is useless in some endgame trials.

-became a master crafter (2 characters 9 traits, 2 characters 6-8 traits)

-completed all PvE content in the game, including DLC (over 2 characters, minus some world bosses)

-cleared most vet dungeons hard mode, no death, speed run

-made CP cap at around 10-11 months. No grinding involved except to level alt characters to 50.

-part of 4 guilds: trials, social, trading, and "help-a-noob" guild.

-got sick of PvP, so only do enough to get monthly rewards (transmute crystals) and level characters to get purge/barrier/caltrops.

-almost have 100% crafting achievements

-have 90% of questing achievements

-just bought my first house with gold (mainly for the storage trunks). Saving for a large house now.

-over 50hrs dps parsing mainly on 2 characters.

-yes, I pay for ESO+, and I bought $75 of crowns to get the banker and merchant. A few cosmetic items too.

-no, I don't "farm" materials or motifs. But I do harvest every material node I find, and I do get motifs from vet HM dungeons/trials. If someone farms seriously, they can make 1 million gold per week.

-I "help-a-noob" at least once a month – taking them under my wing, giving them 100k gold (for horse, bag space, and bank space), teaching them the basics of the game, crafting them training gear, and encouraging them to keep playing. I don't power level them until they reach level 50. I pick them from zone chat so they have no connection to me. A few of them stuck around, most haven't logged on in months.

The previous MMO I played was in WOW vanilla (up to Naxxrammis). I was also in US top 50 guild. But to get there required 4hrs of raiding 6 days a week, and 4hrs of farming per day to pay for repair/consumable costs. I eventually had to quit the game because it was taking up more than 40hrs a week. That's a full time job. That I was paying for. I swore off MMOs for awhile after that.

In contrast ESO has allowed me to get to the same place I was in WOW, but with significantly less time investment. And I have a lot more fun in ESO. The community is much nicer, both on forums and in the game. I can actually play the game and do quests instead of just raids + farming. I get to experience the full breadth of the game. And thanks to crafting surveys, I end up visiting every zone fairly regularly and seeing the unique art. Every zone reminds me of the super-memorable quests that I did there. "Here is where I saved the Queen." "Here is where this person betrayed me." "Here is where that guard killed me for stealing." Etc. etc. It's really incredible how many memories I've formed around this game from just a few hours played per day.

To head off a few questions:

How did I earn gold? Half from selling master writ items, quarter from questing and undaunted plunder, last quarter from doing daily crafting writs.

How to get into a good PvE guild? Make yourself attractive. Run normal trials (pug groups in crag) until you are comfortable and geared. Make sure to show up – if you can pull 40k dps, but don't log in at raid time, you won't last long in a trials guild. Practice, theorycraft, and research your role. Watch videos of boss fights. Most guilds would rather take someone who does less dps but knows the fight over a godlike dps who dies constantly. Once in a guild, get comfortable on normal trials. After that move on to some vet trials. It's just a matter of doing them and putting in the time. And not all guilds can do the vet trials.

How to get good dps? Gold your weapons. Look up builds – most of alcast's can do at least 30k. Parse, practice, research. Parsing and rotation are most important. You should aim for 20k to do normal trials, 30k for vet trials, and 35k for vMoL, vHoF.

When should I do trials? Normal trials – CP160. Vet trials – CP300 for craglorn tials, CP450 for MoL, HoF, and AS. That said, your skill level is a better determinant than CP for which trials you can do. I've seen a CP400 tank do a better job than a CP720. Build yourself, your skills, and your fight knowledge up. Don't be afraid to jump into harder content – but do give your group a warning "I've never done this before, let me know if I'm doing something wrong."

What should I do first in game? Clear auridon. Or another zone. Just pick a zone and do all the quests, get all the skyshards and lorebooks, dungeons etc. Then move onto another zone. Can be combined with doing the main quest.

What daily things do I do? Train horses on 3 characters. Crafting writs on 2-4 characters. vMA once a week (30-60mins). Collect a few crafting surveys. If time permits, do a master writ or two.

Easiest role to play? Healer < tank < dps < good dps < good healer << good tank. A good dps can prioritize targets, not stand in stupid, and have good positioning. A good healer is 75% buff management (SPC, combat prayer, warhorn, IA, mending, off-balance). A good tank is… well, I'm not a "good tank" so I'll let others explain that.

I'd like to thank all of you who have been part of this first good year of ESO.

What if Mend wounds based its cost and effectiveness off your weapon's regen bar?

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:56 AM PDT

I tried the other day to have my roleplay warden stam bow healer use mend wounds but it only scaled from magicka. I feel as if stam healers weren't thought about this chapter. my simple change would be to set the cost and effectiveness scale from stamina or magicka depending on what weapon you're using. to me this would be a really nice buff to stam healers. because we want to be effective too!! and it also doesn't drop the effectiveness of a mag healer's potential.

Had ESO since launch and never got into it...Until now!

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 11:39 AM PDT

I've never been able go really get into ESO over the years. Played most classes both on PC and PS4 and it never clicked.

This week I reinstalled and made my first nightblade, going magblade and dual wielding daggers for RP. I'm a khajit that steals everything possible, wearing a thief outfit and personality from the shop. I have some immersion mods and am taking my time exploring and listening to all quest dialog instead of zooming through everything like I always did in WoW.

All these changes have made me fall in love with the game! What a difference it's made slowing down and doing whatever I want rather than focusing on meta, leveling, or anything else and instead just being in the moment and going where the game/my RP takes me.

Basically, treating ESO like I do other ES games and not like an MMO has made me appreciate what a solid game this is.

Veteran Scalecaller Peak experience

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 02:38 AM PDT

Holy moly! what a dungeon.

One of the most difficult dungeon content in my opinion. In our group we had a cp 720 tank with vet scalecaller experience and rest of us were cp ~450. Several times I was told its only doable if Im cp capped with a certain amount of dps. I can only do 20k dps on a dummy but I wanted to give it a go since Ive been preparing for very long for this.

First Boss - Ogres

I wanted to give up straight away. We wiped like 3 times without any progress. We all knew the tactics, It was just difficult. Okey after 20min we managed to kill them. We were really really happy and we realized this dungeon cant be done without voice com so we all started paying attention to voice chat.

Second Boss - Pokeballs

We knew, we need to kill the balls as soon as they spawn, Its just not as easy as it sounds. There was always someone who got caught and turned into stone. After like 30min suffering and wiping, I tested what happens if I kite the ball. So I was checking when the ball targets me and I pulled the ball from the group while doing a little damage. Ofc we wiped again but this time we actually done some progress so we did this again and we done it.

Third Boss - Ice Golem

It was quite easy we managed on the 1st try. We pulled the boss to the corner of the arena and that way the spawning adds could not damage us. It some cheesy strategy but hey...

Fourth Boss - Plague and alchemist guy

On normal version, out of all bosses, I hated this one the most. This time on Vet, actually this was one the best experience. Each of us in the group had something to do and we had to coordinate, Listen to the npc and listen which add hes calling out. We noticed its good to have good dps here, killing adds fast helps the whole group. The boss has tonns of HP and it took long to beat it. We had to port back to town to grab more repair kits, one of us even run out of soul gems. We did it and we were really excited to move on.

Last Boss – Zaan

Well... I thought okey, its like normal, just actually need to do more damage. Actually the fight is nothing like on normal. 1 slight mistake and we wipe. There are so many mechanics thats going on at the same time, its ridiculous. We could not even reach the 1st ice statue phase for 30 min. Realizing we did wrong the flame waves. We tried to block it, however after a while we found out its better to take the flame waves from the group and dodge it further away. Those ice statues. Brutal!. You will take buttloads of aoe dmg while you have couple of seconds to kill 2 statues. Very difficult to coordinate because dd-s need to focus either statues. Many times we ended up killing the same and did not have enough time to finish off the 2nd. We had the damage we just had to focus! ..... That freakin Poison... I dont think there was anything more annoying than that poison aoe. You literally have to stand in between 2 of the aoe line and dodge roll. There is no way to run out of it as it kills you in 1.5sec when the aoe appears. It ruined so many of our runs. Took us 2 hours to kill the boss. and we only managed to reach the last ice statue phase once, apart from the last try when we beat it.

TL/DR Just knowing the tactics wont work, you will still learn a lot from trial/error You can do it with lower cp, if you have voice com and you willing to sacrifice 4h for your first win.

Are 2x monster set bonuses that good?

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:16 AM PDT

I never used a 2x monster set item, yet I see them on almost every build.

Lets make an example. Alcast sorcerer pet build.

He suggests: 5x necropotence 2x ilambris 4x moondancer

He said he tried Mecahnical Acuity and it's very good, but not good enough to replace necropotence.

And I think, and why not do: 5x necropotence 5x mechanical acuity 1x ilambris

Is the proc damage so good that it's better than many cool 5x set bonuses we could have that in my (unexperienced) eyes, look so much better?

5x set 5x set 1x monster set look so much better in my eyes.

Or replace the 1x monster set for maelstorm or master weapon.

Are the mosnter set procs really so good?

Introducing a new player to ESO advice

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:31 AM PDT

I've recently persuaded my Dad to buy ESO for after he's finished his modules for his MA course as a reward to himself. He's decided to get the game package with pre-order Somerset with Morrowind in it as well, as he decided it was a good deal. He's primarily interested in it for the quests and story and exploration, he never has huge amounts of time and I said it was fairly feasible to play it as a single player game with MMO options and the ability for us to team up together sometimes (which I'm actually really excited about, he's not played computer games in a mega long time and we used to do stuff together a lot, and of course he was the one who introduced me to gaming at a ripe old age of four).

Anyway, untill recently I only had the base ESO, mostly for financial reasons I never got Morrowind when it came out, I've now got enough to pre-order Somerset (thus obviously getting me Morrowind which I'm gonna start on soon and I'm very excited). Consequently whenever I have made a new character I've only ever had the prologue and start from the base game, and it wasn't even untill recently I learned that the major expansion like Morrowind and Somerset I think, change how that happens.

So my question, and I'm sorry for the long post, but for someone who's interested in the stories but is also completely new to the game, how much will this effect how it all fits together and flows? Will I have to give my Dad some basic background on what happens to preface the Main Quest and how the rest fits on for him, or will the game be able to make sense of it for him?

I hope my questions make sense and aren't completely useless, I'm just really excited about sharing a game with him again, especially something like ESO, that I want him to get the most from it as he can. Sorry again for the long post.

Two Questions about DLC?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 10:22 PM PDT

I'm fairly new to the game and only got the game through humble monthly, but I have two questions about the DLC. I'm going to buy

  1. Should I wait for the Crown sale?

  2. When the crown sale comes, should I buy the "Guilds and Glory DLC And others or wait till each DLC goes on sale separately?

P.S I'm fine with being patient, when do things normally go on sale?
