Do you ever wonder what Trion's CMs actually do?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 02:02 PM PDT

I'm asking because, while we like to bash Trion for its rightfully terrible reputation, often joking "ofc. they've fucked up, it's trino, duh", I never until now really paused to think: what is it that they actually do?

I mean, let's take Muzzy (we could have taken Celestrata or Scapes back then, it's not unique to Muzzy). He's the official Community Manager of ArcheAge. This is his job - and I suppose it's his mainstay. I will stress that this applies to all of Trion/AA's CMs I've seen so far.

Yet, when does he engage the community? He replies to virtually no one on the forums. He does a livestream every week for an hour... except he cancels most of them, generally with little warning or thought. He doesn't engage the community on twitter and barely does so on reddit (look up his posts and those of celestrata/scapes before him to have a good idea). He doesn't give interviews or really promote the game out there.

He does not address major issues, not even to say "yeah, we know, we're working on it". Nothing, for example, on missing features and vehicles that were supposed to be in the most recent Fresh Start. He started a Q&A thread about 4.5/FS and failed to provide answers past the first day.

No one's asking him to be perfect, but I've always sort of wondered: if, as CMs, they're not busy engaging the community at any level, what is it that they actually do? Are they paid 5 hours per week? Paid in credits?

Because seriously, I have no idea what the hell they are doing and it's visibly the company's policy to be as muted and unengaged as possible so I'm just left a bit puzzled. Anyone has any idea?

What does Muzzy do to spend his days at Trion HQ?

Any accurate class info on this game? Can you guys help me pick a class?

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 02:42 AM PDT

I am trying this game after playing it a couple years ago (for a insignificant amount of time, I couldn't have gotten past level 25) and am looking to try it again.

However, imagine my frustration when every source I find describing ANYTHING about any of the classes is all outdated, and I'm trying to learn the game and build my first character with not just bad info, but it seems like many skills got shuffled between skillsets, making the information I can find even more confusing. It's not fun to get hyped about a fun sounding build only to get into the game and quickly find out all the skills are different, key passives don't exist, or the really fun skill you remember using now unlocks at level 35...

So, I've come to this subreddit with a humble request to try and figure out how this game works. I'm sure you guys can help.

1) Is Magic/Healing Hybrid still impossible without trying to awkwardly switch weapons in combat? Are those classes still basically dead options?

2) If I wanted to make a tank, what defines a tank? What's the minimum requirements for you to count as a real tank? Is it the Defense tree? Is it "having taunts and staying alive"?

3) I love anti-mage classes in MMOs... Do you guys have any suggestion as to what class would be the best as killing magic-damage-focused enemies (in PVP or PVE)?

Minor final question... Why did so many buffs and stuff get reduced to lasting 5-15 seconds instead of several minutes at a time?

Gildas in fresh start?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 08:36 PM PDT

Best way to be gildas? I do my dailies, all my race quests and only have 350 good as, and some people already have 800 and 500. How do you get good as that fast?

Why does west have so many privileges? (FS specific maybe)

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 09:45 PM PDT

With sea-trading being absolutely silly right now, why does the west get so many advantages?

Solzreed is western safezone for an extremely large portion, meaning its ridiculously hard to go there as east (especially with the prevalence of one combo builds (anything with battlerage and archery as their TTK is sub 2 seconds))

Two Crowns has a similar issue and even has a pincer in the form of the light house some distance out from the trading post

West even has superior cargo runs with merchant ships being able to dock IN hellswamp

Hell even in Diamond shores the west gets OC right next to them and a ton of the good non-turtle mobs are on the west side of the map.

Where does east have the upper hand? Hasla gear is gone, east charcoal runs are objectively longer, eastern safe zone sea ports are no where near as defensible as west, and eastern packs are just all around shit since so much is land locked which is further compounded by a lack of farm wagon.

Where are the benefits? Does this continue on through further phases?

Downtime talk - Should we be investing charcoal?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 08:39 AM PDT

Lets talk charcoal, currently it sits very low at 1.50 to 2 gold throughout the day. The question is, will this rise when Epherium is released (ETA 1 week).

I did some quick maffs and it takes around 100 charcoal to make the big pieces of a gear set and around 50 for the smaller pieces averaging out at around 600 charcoal for a 7 piece set. This is rough and I CBA to go through and add each piece up. This is of course without breaking any pieces while regrading.

There is currently around 15k charcoal traded daily, lets assume that at least 9k is newly created. So at least 15 characters will be able to craft a full epherium leather set every day moving forward.

Serpentis will also be available- HOWEVER the leather set from serpentis is shit, the leather set is strength/agility which means if you're an executioner or ebonsong you lose half your stats to a field that doesn't do alot for you.

The other sets are primary/stamina which leaves them in a competitive spot vs epherium albeit with worse set bonus's. That being said I feel non-leather players will prioritize serpentis sets for cost-savings in general. I feel most players won't justify the costs for the edge gained.

Luckily for charcoal the most common armor set is leather, but will it be enough? This begs the question, will there be enough demand from the leather population to bump charcoal up to 3gold each or maybe even 4gold each?

What are your predictions?

Log and Sapling Prices Question: Farming Worth It?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 02:43 PM PDT

First off, I naturally searched for a discussion about this and couldn't find one. If there is one I missed please link it.

Questions: -Is farming for logs worth it despite sapling prices? -If so, which saplings are best? -If not, are there ways other than chopping down trees in the wild that is valid for logs?

Situation: Currently I've run into this issue when planting a sapling I purchased from a "Seed and Sapling Merchant" then chopping it for logs. The logs I got, 3 were worth less than the sapling even after being processed to lumber.

Thank you in advance for your assistance on this.

(edit): Recently realized that current log prices are 3 silver per unit on my server bringing it to a negative gross. Seems there are no tree's that work in this scenario. Thanks for your responses everyone.

Dawncaller question

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 11:18 AM PDT

As someone who plays around the front line in group and raid pvp I sometimes find myself without those songscraft buffs. I am thinking of playing dawncaller. My question is would dawncaller be a decent class to play frontline in group and raid pvp to buff the frontline to make sure they are buffed and also bring a little dps?

Is obsidian gear worth it anymore?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 08:19 AM PDT

I've been trying to work out a gear path to take on FS and I can't help but feel i'm missing something with obs gear. Sure it has piece bonuses instead of set bonuses but crafted gives you full control over your stats, has better regrading percentages and is the "true" end game gear with full erenor.
