New stress test in 20 minutes!!

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:13 AM PDT

We are finally able to experience all the hard work the devs have put into this game. I want to share my appreciation!

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 04:10 AM PDT

A couple of snapshots of my journey to NWAF

There's alot of minor and major improvements to be seen in 0.63 that totally changes the experience. Obviously there are a lot of quality of life improvements, tweaks and polish that needs to be done up until the 1.0 release. I won't go too far into it as I think most of the things the devs are aware of and/or are actively working on.

The new player character (movement) feels really great and smooth and it's something you can't really appreciate enough until you actually play the game for yourself. While it's WIP and could need both polish and tweaks it's generally up to par with any other game now. It's such a welcome change in DayZ that it truly feels like a new game, and finally ladders! They work great.

A scenario I had while playing: While running in the forest I heard distant deers sound, I decided to follow them and just at the hill after the beautiful vista I came across (One of the screenshots) I saw 3 of them. I decided to sneak up on them and the male deer noticed me and rose his head towards me. I shot him and the others ran away. It all felt really seamless and made the world seem alive. That was my first hunting experience in DayZ yet, and I've played since the mod. I'm really interested to see how the devs progress into making this dead world seem alive. Would also be great to sometimes see birds be scared off when shooting in the forest.

The ambience is great and seems to actually depend on where you are. Trees in the wind, insects and so on. The tree trunk actually creak in the wind. That's something that made me stop automatically just to perceive my surroundings, thinking at first it might have been a little woodpecker. Some ambience seems to be missing though at the moment in Offline mode, it was quite silent at times. E.g. No birds etc.

I like the new stamina system, that it actually depends on your gear. The amount of time you can run depends on the weight of your gear. Although when heavily equipped you can't run at all. That's one thing I would like to tweak. In really intense situations you should always be able to run, if you're heavily equipped, even if it's just for a second. There should be a possibility to at least take cover.

All in all. Everything from how you interact with the world, to improvements of the environment, to the sounds. It truly feels like the foundation of the Survival/MMO/Openworld game I've always wanted to play. The performance seems better than live, despite it being a little heavier due to playing offline. I had a blast in Offline mode and felt really immersed and that says something about the improvements made. Imagine how it will feel live once this rough diamond is polished and players, more features and items are in.

Great work! Among the Battle Royal and Survival game hypes in recent years, DayZ is still a unique experience that no other game has offered yet.

DayZ The last game i ever played with my best friend.

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 03:13 PM PDT

I had a friend in 2017. We met in 2014 on DayZ we became best friends during the 3 years I knew him. He died in 2017 due to cancer. The day everything went down he was going in for a 3rd round of kemo and he told me not to get on until he comes back next week "Recovered" And that was the last time we played together. I have opened DayZ a few times since he's been gone but never could bare to play the game i come to tears and sometimes I just leave the game open and sit in the empty TS3 server from 3 years ago. I miss you Jared. I'm still waiting...

Edit: Thank You all so much you don't understand how much all the comments mean to me. This is one of the reasons we loved the community.

(.63) Strafing while sprinting should be slower than just running forward

The mouse inertia while sprinting and turning is great, but IMO you can still dance around too much using A and D

The game felt so much better this time. I was very lucky I was able to play almost the full length of the stress test.

Still unsure of Aiming, It works well in most instances. Just in feels slow in CQB combat. Absolutely Loving the Injured intimation. Especially when you hit someone at a distance. They can no longer just run away there going to have to hide or fight you.

My stress test experience went something like this. I was playing on Northeast server, sniping people from the fire tower. Eventually I got killed so I decided to go all the way up to the top of the fire station via ladder. I had a good 6 or 7 kill streak going till someone climbed up and killed me. Spent the rest of the time fighting the two friends at the top of the fire station. Got lucky and they both shot at the same time climbed the ladder and shot em both. Then got sniped.

Ahhh dayz what a great game.

0.63 Persistent Singleplayer Mod - Automatically saves your character and gear between restarts and crashes.

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 08:58 PM PDT

EDIT: It seems Bohemia broke this a bit with the new update to the stress_test branch. You will get a script error when starting the game. HOW TO FIX if you ALREADY DOWNLOADED the mod:

Remove the "3_Game" folder from the downloaded "scripts" folder. That's it, no need to change anything else.

EDIT 2: A NEW, cleaned up, .zip file has been added to the download directory. Follow the steps above if you already downloaded. If you haven't downloaded the mod yet just follow the instructions below as usual.

Hello everyone!

I've seen a lot of questions about keeping your characters on the offline/singleplayer mode. I've got something for you! It is a bit of a hacky solution right now but it saves your position and the gear you're wearing. It replaces the main mission file of the offline mission (init.c) and the MissionGameplay.c Enfusion Script file. It writes to a local file to keep track of gear you are wearing and where on the map you are. It is based on Arkensor's DayZCommunityOfflineMode mod. Without him we would probably not be playing around with any of this right now anyways ;)

Attention: This is for the 0.63 STRESS_TEST build from steam. This will not work on the experimental or stable branch. For info on how to download: https://dayz.com/blog/0-63-stress-tests. Make sure you have the "Play DayZ Offline" checkbox popup when launching the game.

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?47hclyfqdf71b (Download the latest one in that folder, in case I update this in the future).

(Only mission and script files, no .exes etc. obviously).

How to install the modded mission:

  1. Download the latest .zip file from above link.

  2. Chose a version you want to use. There are two folders in the zip file, "Legit" and "Hacks". If you want to play just normal DayZ pick "Legit" or if you want to play around with spawning items and teleporting around the map, pick "Hacks". Enter your desired folder.

  3. Extract the "scripts" and "Missions" folders from your chosen version to your DayZ folder. (This will overwrite the "init.c" file in "DayZ/Missions/dayzOffline.ChernarusPlus", so just to be sure, back that up beforehand. However, it could always be deleted and re-downloaded from Steam in the worst-care scenario you lost the original).

  4. Start DayZ and choose "Play DayZ Offline" when prompted by Steam.

Your saved gear is saved at: "C:\Users\[your name]\AppData\Local\DayZ\player.txt". If you run into any problems or your save gets corrupted / you want to respawn, just delete it and click Restart in the ESC menu or restart DayZ through Steam.

Keybinds for hack options can be found here: https://github.com/Arkensor/DayZCommunityOfflineMode

Enjoy!

Known Issues:

  1. Character appearance does not save (model)

  2. Weapons aren't working 100%. Count with some disappearing magazines, attachments etc.

  3. Spawned guns can sometimes crash the game when taken to hands. This happens with weapons spawned from the dev. menu too.

  4. Guns sometimes get duplicated on your back.

  5. If you have clothes inside clothes in your inventory, you might be wearing the wrong jacket/pants when you spawn but your original pair should be inside your inventory.

  6. Can't exit the game via the menu, you will have to use ESC to open the menu and then click ALT+F4 to close the process.

  7. Stacks of items may not spawn correctly, most likely you will only receive 1 quantity of the item.

Credits: Arkensor for the awesome DayZCommunityOfflineMode project and the hack functionality.

If you have any questions or run into problems just leave a comment and I will try to help out!

0.63 has great changes. However, one suggestion when it comes to Console vs. PC version

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:12 AM PDT

Just played the stress test, the new character controls are much smoother and a great addition. Dealing with looting items is also better.

However, managing items and their attributes seems to have gotten more needlessly tedious in some cases. Of course we all praise the removal of the 'mouse scroll' menu, but what we now have is a glaring example of 'console controls' on a PC version. Which in some cases (like eating food) works well, but in others do not.

Please Developers, do not make the versions exactly the same in terms of these controls. When I open the inventory menu I want to be able to use right click on an item, and have options in that menu as it used to be. I know on a console game controller you will not be able to do this but it does not mean the PC version should suffer in this added depth.

This is a slippery slope that has occurred with some games when a game made for PC decides to lose ease of controls for mouse and keyboard for the sake of console controls.

The new player controller and animations and everything is ok at best. This is what really matters this update.
