/r/Civ Free Talk Friday - April 27, 2018

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:15 AM PDT

Greetings r/Civ.

Hello and welcome to Free Talk Friday, a megathread where everyone can rant, vent, or otherwise express themselves to their heart's content. This is also a place where you can organize your thoughts, or even a party for multiplayer games if you so wish to.

Despite the mostly free of expression, however, we would like to ask you to still follow the rules, mainly:

  • Be polite as much as possible. Don't be rude or vulgar to anyone.
  • Keep your comments civil and as respectful as you can. If you cannot say anything good, please hide and ignore the comment.
  • Memes are allowed in the thread, but Politics and other controversial topics are not permitted to prevent offending certain people.

For other Weekly/Monthly threads, you can now view them here.

There is currently a bug with running the Rise & Fall Expansion with the existing DLC which in some cases makes it impossible to start a game. A more detailed explanation of this bug can be found in this post.

As a temporary fix until we can get an official patch, you can download either this unofficial patch by Deliverator23, or with this patch by Gedemon.

The Most Useless Graph In The Game.

Perhaps it's time to play on King instead of Prince...

Thoroughly unexciting for everyone else

Tried installing Civ6 on our old 2009 iMac. Seem to have entered the nether realm along with Gilgamesh

Your seas are unprotected, friend. All too easy to raid.

Mildly Frustrating: sheep would not stay in the fence

I didn't know that lux resources could spawn with this kind of density. It is an inland sea map, though.

This has to be a very rare occurance

I'm such Warmonger

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 06:00 PM PDT

I (Poland) declared five wars all game, three of them liberation/protectorate, none of them surprise.

I was the target of a declaration forty times, where I mainly fended off shitty navies, liberated city-states conquered by my aggressor, and (when feeling petty) razed a city to teach them a lesson.

There was no rhyme or reason to the declarations, and Harald slowly warmed up to me in the late game because I actually needed to defend my shores from all the other assholes.

But yes, I'm a warmonger. With a culture victory.

That is all.

I guess I'll move up to Immortal, where things will make less sense.

Some natural wonders grant upgrades (i.e. Giant's Causeway, Lysefjord, Matterhorn, Mt. Everest). Is there any way to see which units have received the upgrade?

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:47 PM PDT

I have a game where many of my troops are marching past Giant's Causeway and gaining the +5 bonus to combat strength, but I'm sure I've missed a few. Is there any way to tell which units received the upgrade?

Where in the Civ VI does it explicitly state that Settlers, Builders and Districts have a higher cost the more you build?

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:59 PM PDT

Just started playing Civ 6. It's pretty cool, but it's too picky about the district bonuses and rules. I like the Civics tree though.

Scenario mods for Civ V

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 08:01 AM PDT

I've been playing the days of Sadat, October war mod a lot recently but I've been looking for other full scenario mods like it, I've played the German and Italian unification mods and various elder scrolls and GoT mods, so what I'm asking is are there any other 'good' scenario mods?

Does loyalty seem borked at times to anyone else?

Does the game need more Great People? Wonders? What would you say Civ 6 needs right now?

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:08 AM PDT

I would say Borge Great People and wonders, as that was 2 of my favorite aspects of Civ 5.

Beat Deity OCC finally! (filthy diplo victory but still)

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 04:24 PM PDT

So yeah... I can't activate my game

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:45 PM PDT

My brother bought civ 5 for my birthday, and I went ahead and tried to install it, and it asked for a product key. Okay, no problem, I just got to look for it on the case, right? I couldn't find it on the case, so I went ahead and looked it up. Oh, it's in the manual? So I went ahead to open the case, and, surprise, no manual. I swear, there's no way my brother would steal the manual, the case was sealed. Well, it's alright anyways, I could always pirate the game...

Early game Indonesian Naval rushes

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 11:14 AM PDT

I went Earth Goddess last game with Indonesia because of her ability to buy ships with faith. It was only Prince level, but I got bored of that game so fast because of how OP'd it felt. Is this a viable strategy for higher levels? Having north of 100 faith per turn before turn 50 felt like it was just begging me to use her as a warring civ.

[Question] How to change the production screen to add gold/faith in the primary window?

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:33 PM PDT

Hopefully this doesn't break the rules! I didn't see anything saying I can't ask questions, but have been blind before!
