The cost of abusive and vile "feedback" towards game developers in 2018

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 07:31 AM PST

As a professional in the broadcasting industry who teaches animation, game development and video production to high school students, I felt it was important to share this link as a topic of discussion centered around the way people are communicating issues about Destiny 2 with developers. I have a number of students who want to develop games when they grow up and it is sad that I have to have full class discussions with them on the current trend towards abusive and hateful "dialogue" between gamers and developers. A small vocal minority of every game in today's world truly feels as if the best way to communicate displeasure about the game is to be as inflammatory and vile as they possibly can. I am happy that sub-reddits such as this one consistently choose to go about things in a much more professional and adult way. Thank you for the lack of sodium towards changes you want to see in your favorite game and industry. Yours is the way everyone should emulate when discussing the game or games they love.

Am I good?

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 06:56 AM PST

I wish PvE had stats. I know when if your whole fireteam dies you get kills stats, but if you don't how do you know if you are playing well!? Sometimes on strikes or public events everyone is super'ing around me and I feel like I am holding the team back.

Also, I play as a Titan (not into the game far enough to have multiple characters) and I'm not really sure if I'm utilizing the strengths of the class enough. I haven't really played with anyone who talks to get feedback, are there other ways to know? I don't have all the legendaries/exotics yet, so I can't max the subclasses out and what not, so sometimes I feel like getting out my scout rifle and pounding the boss in the face from a far is the best thing I can do?

Also, full disclosure, I have no idea how to activate heroic events and I know people on this sub get so pissed when people mess that up. There are so many events though, do I have to remember how to activate them for each different event? or at least not how to mess them up. If you want to downvote me because I'm a noob, consider maybe an upvote would do more good getting visibility to other noobs in my same spot?

Destiny 2 a fixable game

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 06:53 AM PST

Others may have discussed those subjects but i feel that i need to put those on a post maybe Bungie will read.

The likable aspects of the game can be different for anyone, such as game mechanics, graphics, sound, pvp gameplay, pve gameplay, collecting stuff, and so on. But there are a few things that this type of game (that also costs almost 100$), definitely cannot launch without, and it really did.

1. Probably the most important feature this game is missing: LFG (looking for group) in-game.

Its understandable that some modes wont have matchmaking since you need good coordination, but launching a game, in 2017, that requires you to find your own people using a website and 3rd party apps its outrageous.

Why do I need to spend hours on a forum and add dozens of people in my friend list? When you could just make a lobby in-game.

2. Trials of the nine rank matchmaking

This one is another game mode "blocked" for some people. If you don't have friends that are decent at shooting games, you will have a hard time trying to play this mode.

Most of the people on the forum are only searching for players with good stats, which you do not have at first, so you rely on casual players. You are happy you finally managed to find a team, and get into a match, after searching through those beautiful forum posts. And then you get matched with some guys that have hundreds of wins, you get destroyed, you get your elo and kd destroyed, and then becomes even harder for you to find people, rinse and repeat.

How in the world would some bronze elo, with a kd below 0.5 could have chances of wining against a platinum, diamond or whatever with a 1.5 or above 2 kd ? Really absurd and this becomes frustrating for some people that may eventually drop the game.

3. Not enough content

This is not such a game breaker for me, but it really is for most people, especially those that are not into PvP. After getting close to max level besides those 2 raids and a few milestones you don't have much to do. It gets repeatable very fast. Even having multiple characters doesn't help, because you still do the same story, would have been nice if each of those characters had a different story.

Of course there are other things that need attention but i think those above are key to keeping players involved.

Please feel free to say your own opinion, and vote if you resonate with the post, so Bungie will see that people care about those things. It would be a shame to have to pay another 100$ for a possible Destiny 3 in 3 years just to have features from 10 years ago.

Thank you!

Arc grenade mods

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:08 AM PST

I've noticed I haven't gotten any arc grenade mods in a LONG time. Is there a limit on what types of armor mods you can get? Tired of solar and void mods that I'll never use.

Clan raiding?

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:43 AM PST

This is a question about how your clan does raid nights, and how this changes over time... are your experiences similar to ours? how have you navigated the issues?

When I joined my current clan, just after HoW came out so VoG and Crota... raids were done on a sign-up basis...

Admin put a post on b.net or wherever that there would be a raid at 9pm tuesday (for example) then 1st 6 to put their names down were team 1, next 6 were team 2 etc... with some jiggling about so that there was a 'leader' in each team...

It was found that some teams were always the same folks, say the wednesday 10pm team were ALWAYs the same 6, so while it was in theory open to all, it would get filled up superquick with the regulars...

This continued somewhat into D1Y2 with Kings Fall, buts also now the regular teams were organising without the admins, so there were less open-to-noobs raids available... this led to a bit of tension but the end result was the new guys ran a few raids led by an admin but eventually ended up as consistent groups who could finish a raid on their own... so now there was no demand for admin-led raids at all (more or less)... For each of these new-regular teams there was someone that stood forward and took on the coordination and organisation so there teams are still going...

This continued into D1y3 with wrath of the machine... so now the vast majority of the clan are comfy in their raid groups and do not want to put themselves through the extra challenge and frustration of working with a team that is not used to each other (being a dad's clan with limited playing time this is somewhat harsh but definitely understandable... you have 2-3hrs on games night, you can either finish the raid or I can struggle through 1 or 2 bosses and feel unfulfilled at the end)

Now in D2 we are in a situation where we have say 4 or 5 of new guys that want to raid but no-one appears to be making a consistent effort to step up and lead/organise a raid team so they appear to be a bit fed up... the admins don't have the time to help lead these potential new teams; it isn't like they are paid to do anything and they don't want to let down their own regular raid teams etc...

on the other hand the old regular teams are showing a bit of player drop-off so cannot always find a team but don't want to go through the hassle of getting new people in because they get fed up in the past with people not turning up on time and all the other things (banter, communication, shared skill level from playing a game for 3+ years etc) that make you love only raiding with a regular teams... I think these old teams need to take the risk and invite the new people but this needs to be encouraged behaviour not imposed.
