Hero Survey March 2018 (Census)

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 10:14 AM PST

Ahoi Heroes Community,
it's been a while, i was very busy in real life but im still alive and loving this game. Last survey has been at the end of October, just shortly before BlizzCon. So we have a lot of new content and changes to discuss here; 3 events (dragons, winter, lunar) 4 new heroes (Alex, Hanzo, Blaze, Maiev), 10 hero reworks, voice chat, of course the big laning changes and a lot of new other stuff, too much to list here. This is why the rating part of the survey is longer than usually this time. - So have fun with this next hero survey!

As always, I'm trying to catch the current feelings of the dedicated community about the Heroes. Who's the strongest, who's the weakest, whom do you like the most personally? Additionaly I'm asking for the most anticipated Hero to enter the Nexus soon and there are also some bonus questions inspired by current topics and you can additionaly all the recent changes that came to the Nexus within the last months.

--> Heroes Survey March 2018

Just 14 questions. The survey will run for about one week at least until next wednesday, 7th of March. I will post a reminder here - and when its over i will of course post the results and an info graphic here too!

Please feel free to give feedback here, I will definetly try to use it in the next surveys! Sorry again for having this longer break, RL keeps me busy, but I will go on with this project! Thank you very much for your support!

If you want to help, please spread the participation link to your friends and communities so we get the best possible results!
You can also contact/follow me via Twitter: @GwelsHeroes

Looking forward to the results & Thank you a lot! :)

The grass on the other side isn't always greener

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 12:04 PM PST

My team just completely miscommunicates during the draft. Last second swaps and we end up with a full melee team. The other team comp is far superior. We say our GGs but we don't tilt. We go into the game to try our best.

We just body the other team and the game is a quick victory. The next rank game the enemy, Valla, is now on my team. I ask him about the previous game. He said his team FULL TILTED in draft. They got so mad at each other and they couldn't pull it together. It was crazy cause our team thought they had the better comp and we were going to lose. The other team was too busy arguing to see straight.

It was just a reminder for me how much this game is about attitude and working together. The other side might appear greener but you don't know what is really going on on the other side.

Blizzard, we really need to be able to choose to clamp cast abilities just like we can with quick cast! PLS!

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 02:32 AM PST

Title really says it all but again, I really wish I could set clamp cast or no clamp cast per ability (those that can be clamp cast) just like I can set quick cast, on release or off for any specific ability.

Maybe even a clamp cast hotkey.

For those that don't know what that is, clamp cast will cast an ability at the fartest point in its range as opposed to making your character walk until the selected point is in cast range. Examples where this is already in place is Tyraels Q (which was changed to clamp cast at one point) or Li-Mings Teleport.

Why can't I buy gem-only skin tints individually?

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 08:11 AM PST

TL:DR - By selling gem-only skin tints individually for gems, Blizzard would barely undercut their 'whale bundle' market and tap into a currently non-existant market of microtransactions in which players could spend small amounts ($1.00 - $5.00) on specific skins.

I'm okay with Blizzard's approach to create a F2P lootbox system in which you pay money for gems, and then either get the items you want or save up shards to craft it. While it isn't ideal, it seems to be industry standard.

I'm also okay with Blizzard's recent approach to create gem-only skins that players can only get through spending money on gems (or earning gems through levelling up your account). I think this offers a great middleground between pre 2.0 players who liked the system, and the player who like the current system.

What I don't understand is the idea to package them as 'bundle-only' with no option to purchase individual tints with gems. Isn't the whole point of a F2P microtransaction system to encourage users to spend "small" amounts of money continously?

What happened to building products for users, and putting the customer first? Imagine this scenario: you walk into a store to buy a pair of shoes, or a shirt, or a chocolate bar, or whatever, only to find out that the only way to buy the item you want is by purchasing an additional 4 items you DONT want. There is nothing great about that customer experience, and it actually borderlines on being "offensive" to the point where the customer is turned off from purchasing anything.

Do the whales, the ones that come in and say fuck it, I'll purchase all 5 shirts just to get the shirt I want outweigh the general population? Why is this system okay?

Is there really that many players caving and purchasing the entire bundle just for one specific tint (or multiple?) versus the number of players that simply don't purchase the bundle at all BECAUSE they only want a specific tint?

I think there is a much larger portion of the player population that would be willing to spend $2.50 (through gems) on a specific tint, and I don't see the point in forcing bundles on the playbase when they could offer both options.

Players that want more than 1 tint will purchase a bundle because it's the same as buy 3 tints individually and they get a deal, and players who want a specific tint will purchase that tint, instead of not purchasing anything at all. IMO, they would barely undercut their 'whale bundle' market, and tap into a non-existant market of players who want individual tints.

Now that we finally have voice chat. Blizzard please can we implement a Commend system.

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 07:07 AM PST

Dota 2 has a system for players to commend allies if they were enjoyable to play with, or just good players. Your profile can show how many times you have been commended.

If you're playing Ranked, please get in voice chat, at least just to listen.

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 03:59 PM PST

Seriously, it's such a great tool. If you're trying to play this game competitively, there is no reason for you not to be in voice chat - even just to listen. It helps coordination and cooperation so much. Unless you're literally deaf (like that one guy who posted here), there's literally no reason not to.

Where does Ana fit and does her rework fix any of her problems?

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 12:42 PM PST

Hey Guys, I am a Masters support main who plays every support. Ana has been one of my favorites because her playstyle encourages strong micro play as well as she is a great niche pick while drafting.

Ana is getting a mini rework in the patch with sonya and medivhs rework. You can check it out here: https://us.battle.net/heroes/en/blog/21509414/heroes-of-the-storm-ptr-patch-notes-february-26-2018-2-26-2018

tldr; they are nerfing the healing of her q by about 7%. They are nerfing piercing darts range from 50% per unlock to 25%. Her W no longer increases all healing only her own unless you get the w talent at 1. Her spell damage reduction talent at 7 was nerfed from 15 to 10% per stack and her ult "Nano Boost" was nerfed to have a longer cooldown and higher mana cost.

That's a lot of nerfs for a healer that fell out of the competitive scene in HGC as well as a healer whose winrate dropped when double support got nerfed. But in most reworks they buff abilities too in order to transition the playstyle to be more what they want.

The gave her trait a self heal if she has it stacked on enemies. It's negligible but gives her self sustain against pokes. It won't save you from someone diving on you. They also buffed Debilitating poison which was her best counter to dive heroes by dropping the cooldown from 45 seconds down to 25 seconds. Essentially protecting a good Ana from any dives. They also buffed her eye of horus ult. by dropping the cooldown the mana cost and giving you the ability to cancel without firing to not incur a cooldown.

So with all these changes in mind let me talk a bit about what this will do with her playstyle.

She will do less healing and be able to be picked in more scenarios by being able to survive dive assassins and poke comps better.

I think her rework was needed. I think overall it will help her being picked more, but I disagree with what they did. The reason her builds have no variety is not because the e build was op, it was because the e build was the only one that solved the problem of her kit. People getting in the way of the people you need to heal. Piercing (healing) dart should have been a baseline quest as playing Ana in team fights without it is horrible.

Her other builds are just weird honestly. Let's look at Alexstraza and Stukov for a moment. Two of my favorite healers because of their build variety.

Alexstraza has 3 viable build paths. Q healing, W hybrid, and trait focused. Each heal in a different way. Q healing is great for a lot of ranged people, w hybrid is great for frontline healing and trait focused is great for objective play.

Stukov. In one good spread build he is one of the highest healers in the game assuming 2 people near him at all times. But it dies to burst and spreading. So his trait build heals in a different way that is still just as viable for those situations.

Ana doesn't have that. Her w build isn't viable healing, her trait build doesn't even try. She has one path to being able to heal who she needs to heal. They can nerf that path to encourage us to pick other builds, but you are not moving into a different healing path you are moving into an offhealer path (exactly what blizzard doesn't want.)

So what can be done? Well personally I think all that needs to change is 2 things. Make her q piercing baseline (her e talent still increases range) and make her w quest be more healing oriented, increasing the heal and radius making it a viable talent to pick as a main healer. This would allow you to go a stronger healing (at the cost of being closer) path or a safer healing path giving people a risk vs reward. Many of her talents synergize with both of these changes and they are both relatively simple changes as they are either numbers or already things she does.

tldr: Ana is getting a rework but he doesn't solve the main problem she had in her build variety so while she may be picked more she will still have no build variety. I think her rework was needed but I recommend a different rework.

edit: what I mean by a baseline q quest. Look at Muradin Q, Tyrande W. Those are both baseline quests that the more you land the more they pierce.

Math of the Storm: Patch 30.3 (Clash Patch)

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 06:31 AM PST

Raynor's AA hits as a single shot but sounds like a burst.

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 06:04 AM PST

I don't know why this bothers me so much, I'm sure I am not the only one. But Raynor's basic attack has the sound of a 3 round burst yet only hits once per burst sound.

I know its probably not even considered in the list of QOI updates or even if it is its at the bottom of the list. But still I'd love to see it changed to either have the hits match the sound or visa vera.

INTRODUCING: The One Hero Only Account!

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 07:07 AM PST

Click here for a little teaser to begin with!

Greetings, frands! A few months ago, I decided to give the other regions a shot. From NA, I ended up on EU. As a Gall main, I needed some legs. However, I appeared to be a giant nublet as my account stats on EU were non-existant. So armed with a level 0 account and my dashing good looks, I set out to find as many decent Chos as I could. No A.I. games. No leveling of other heroes. Just all-out, 100% pure Gall, all the way. Unsurprisingly, not being able to whisper anyone prior to hitting level 5 made things extra complicated, but I persevered. Found one Cho, then another, then another. And suddenly, a dumb idea popped into my head...

THE CHALLENGE

Play 300 quick matches in a different region than your own. Play with new friends of that region only. Use only one hero from the available pool. Try to climb that region's quick match ladder. Try to stay sane. See where you end up after completing 300 games!

Got flamed by only two gentlemen who actually thought I was a noob. Only one friend figured I was bronze. Overall, a pleasant experience that I'd highly recommend if you can manage the ping. There are map range markers for those that didn't know. Problem is, they're about 1px thick and pretty much the same color as the minimap, so basically non existent as you can see here: https://imgur.com/a/dTVx3

Could be something like yellow? Just something that sticks out. No idea why this color was chosen.

Punisher > Bunker

Posted: 28 Feb 2018 07:35 PM PST

So today I tried to use Bunker to dodge the Punisher, similar to how Tass will phase shift or Anub will burrow away. The animation started, but the bunker was never (I believe) visible, went on full cool down, and was smashed to pieces? It was really weird. Anyone else see this happen?
