I have been replaying Bravely Default on 3DS and I love how it's a JRPG that really respects my time.

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 02:34 PM PST

JRPG's can be a doozy to get into. They famously try to go on as long as possible often by sheer brute force obtuseness and generally just being slow about everything.

I also love the genre but often have a hard time finishing them because of this.

Bravely Default is great in this regard. It takes multiple steps to insure that I feel like I'm making good progress without wasting my time.

First, You can adjust the random encounters level at your leisure, when you enter a dungeon you can turn of Encounters completely. just run around and collect chests, pull levers and find secrets and later when you arte good and ready you can, if you want, boost the encounter rate and grind out some matches really quick for gold and XP.

In a match there is also a few cool things. The brave systems is meant for a myriad of tactical reason but for small encounters it simply lets you take a lot actions on the first turn, thus usually ending a fight at the very start, quick and easy! Also you can even with a small d-pad press speed up the attack animations to a comically fast degree.

I love this because it shows that the devs werent to precious about their game to not let you play it however suits you best. I wish more games of all sorts did this (depending on type of game of course..)

So basically, where they weren't able to make things fast and elegant by design they simply opted for a setting to makes things faster and easier.

This lets you focus on the games strengths, and it is a good game. It's fun to fiddle with the deep job system and combat. It's one of the better 3D games simply because the handpainted looking enviroments are gorgeous, and the story is simple but enjoyable enough.

Edit: It seems the game has some surprises for me in the second half, as far as grinding is concerned. Thats a shame if true but I want to mention that the features I mention do still help alot with time wasting even if you still need to do a lot of fights towards the end. I could think of many other games that would waste my time with grind AND ALSO a lot of incidental slow stuff that would really frustrate me.

We'll see, I'm hoping I finish it.

After the most recent trailers for the dancing games, what are the chances of Atlus making a Persona 3 Remake?

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 04:35 PM PST

What do you guys think? Dancing Moon Night has the characters looking very nice in HD and the recreated scenery looks incredible. Atlus seems to have the models and most of the environments ready to go, so if they just recreate the anime cutscenes, tweak the gameplay, menus, etc, they could have a beautiful remake of the game created. Not to mention Atlus has the idea at least due to the surveys of recent years.

I'm sure hoping this dancing game is just a treat to hold us over if they are making a remake using the assets they've created, and if you ask me, it's looking like it's the case, but what does everyone else think? Think we could be seeing an HD Persona 3 Remake in the next couple of years?

Thoughts on games with "daily/weekly quests" system? Yay or Nay?

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:18 PM PST

I find that most games with a daily/weekly quest system are mobile games and mmorpg. I have played a lot of games with such system and had no issue with it. In fact, I welcomed such systems that give incentives to comitted players.

But recently reality kicks in and life got a lot busier. I could no longer find time to commit myself to daily/weekly quests. I had to leave guilds/clans, say goodbye in discord groups for those games where there is a set weekly requirement you have to meet.

All of a sudden I find myself hating on these systems. There are games that I would love to keep playing albeit on and off. But the daily/weekly quest grind and requirement imposed by guild is bullocks and I can't progress much without a guild/clan if I am just playing on and off on my own.

Feels like the only games I can play these days are ones that are easy to jump in and out. If only there is a way to remove these daily systems but still find a way to encourage players to log in daily without penalising the players who can't.
