Bungie, however big your Mars map for the new DLC is, double it.

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 04:00 AM PST

Title.

My fear is that we end up with a location as small as Mercury. It feels disjointed and odd to have so many different events occurring in such a small location. We are talking about a location smaller than the Mothyards here, that's just not really acceptable.

Mars has to be significantly bigger than that, with a lot more mystery and Lost Sectors.

EDIT: People love to take things literally... Bungie, before you release DLC2, have a serious critical look at the size of the map. Remember that Mars is a vast, desert wasteland, the size of the map should reflect that.

Grinding for D1 god rolled weapons was a better, more fun artificial grind than the current Masterwork core grind in D2.

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 07:38 AM PST

One of the biggest arguments I hear in favor of static rolls is that chasing god rolled weapons was a shitty, artificial grind. How is chasing mods and MW cores any better? It's just as random and tedious but the rewards are far less fun and useful. Like most people still playing, we've been 335 for awhile. I don't know about you guys but MWs are the only reason I'm grinding anything these days and it's just so shallow. I know we don't know anything about Mods 2.0 yet but here's hoping they provide an artificial grind that's at least worthwhile.

So Bungie. Can you let me know now if I can delete my ships, ghosts, and sparrows now when you eventually add a kiosk for them?

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 09:58 AM PST

I have so many ships, ghosts, and sparrows from season 1, the dawning, crimson days, and season 2 that are taking up so much space. I don't want to delete them because I was a collection of them. But if Bungie is going to add kiosks and retroactively add all these items can they let us know now so we can make room in our vault?

All Scannable Locations Maps

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 05:54 AM PST

These maps were assembled by a user over on Bnet, figured I would repost them here since they haven't yet.

Really stellar work by them, all credit and adoration should be pointed in their direction.

Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/243576162?sort=0&page=0

I've only been into destiny for two months now, but I'm really loving the story and all the little scannables with extra dialogue. I just think they're neat.

So, here's some maps I compiled of all the scannables on every single planet because well... I was a little bored and little curious as to how many there were. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

European Dead Zone

37 patrol + 3 farm = 40, missing one?

Titan

21 + 1 glitched

Nessus

37 + 1 "strike exclusive"

Io

33 + 3 "strike exlusive"

The Tower

17 + 3 not on the map (see below)

If there's any I missed, I'd appreciate some feedback! Thanks for stopping by!

And if anyone would like the blank maps for reference, since I had trouble finding some, here they all are!

---> MAPS! <---

Users have reported missing scannables on the map, I will post any sufficiently detailed locations here:

Actually that Tower map is missing three scannables in the Bazaar. 1 outside ledge near NM. 1 on a balcony near NM. 1 on the high ducting below the awning. -INetRunner (Bnet)

also,

There's 4 on the farm. (per u/ninstaRrune)

One when you spawn in by the water, near a npc

Two up on the ledges on the immediate left

A sniper rifle on the back left of the barn

further,

There are actually 3 scannables during the Pyramidion strike. One is a beam of light before the first teleport gate (in the right corner far across from the gate), one is a beam of light before the second teleport gate (in the corner left of the teleport gate as you face it up where a hobgoblin usually spawns) and one after the last gate before you drop down for the boss fight (as you go down the ramp you will see an opening on the right side you can drop down into and keep going to the right and you will see another beam of light to scan).

There are also 3 scannables during the Arecibo adventure on Io. They are all located in the warmind vault. One is in the large room where you fight a boss during a story mission and the other two are near the end of the adventure where you scan the musical object. per /u/perditimor

Edit: Added numbers for each location, thanks to /u/Try_to_guess_my_psn for biting the bullet and hand counting those for us!

My biggest fear is Bungie will fix all the issues, but the player base will have dwindled so much it doesn't matter.

Posted: 05 Mar 2018 06:54 PM PST

I feels like Bungie is slowly pushing things in the right direction, but more and more, I run into issues that are indicative of a dwindling player base. Laggy world instances, player teleporting around in PvP, and slow queue times for events. At the end, I quit playing D1 because the player population was just too small to support it, especially in the PvP space. I feel like we are already entering the same territory with D2, and it makes me sad because there isn't another game on the market that scratches the same itch at all.

Maybe the March update will breath some life, and fun, into the game again. Maybe the next DLC will knock some things out of the park. Maybe the Taken Queen will do for D2 what TTK did for D1. Maybe we will all be laughing about our doom and gloom attitudes a year from now. I sure hope so, but right now it feel pretty hopeless.

I can't stop thinking, What if Bungie finally builds, or more accurately repairs, it and no one comes?

It's time for Bungie, more specifically Chris Barrett and Luke Smith to do a video interview with fans. They select questions voted on by players. The community team is great but, "I'll go ask my manager," doesn't work anymore.

Posted: 05 Mar 2018 11:33 PM PST

There is so much doubt, speculation, vague hints and secrecy behind their upcoming plans.. it's damaging the community more than any one game issue.

A mission statement, in plain English, could really calm a lot of the angsty unrest that permeates all things Destiny right now. As diehard fans of your troubled product, we deserve to know.

I'd like some help getting this started, post tips and your own ideas, Guardians. Thanks

Hey Bungie I know this might be a little odd, but if someone on our side in the game dies in the DLC (lore-wise or gameplay wise) can we please see them dying?

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 05:18 AM PST

Not already dead, but actually dying.

I've noticed throughout the entirety of Destiny except for Rise of Iron we don't really see the good guys actually die in front of us, let alone be shown in some way outside of grimoire.

They're always already dead, and that kinda stinks to me.

If someone is gonna die, I wanna see them die so I can have a connection to them, you know?

I mean from what was in the sound files, someone WAS going to die but then it never implemented.

I kinda would've like to seen that.

Bungie, please stop killing off major antagonists in the story campaigns.

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 11:11 AM PST

What happens to both Ghaul and Panoptes? Both of them die at the end of the story campaigns.

What happened in House of Wolves and TTK? Guardians defeated Skolas and Oryx, but then they had to go fight them AGAIN in a raid/end-game encounter.

Why is this more compelling for players? Because enemies aren't just a one-off fight that you can beat by yourself. Campaigns should introduce characters that then reappear in end-game content, because it adds a layer of mystery to the antagonist: As a solo player, I defeat a boss character, but then I learn the boss character doesn't actually die, and now I have to face them a second time as a more powerful boss in a harder encounter that requires a full fireteam to complete? That's way more epic story-telling.

Ghaul dies in the Destiny 2 base campaign, and then we go to the Leviathan to fight Emperor Callus, who we know virtually nothing about? Panoptes is introduced in a DLC campaign as some Vex god that could bring about the destruction of human life, but then we defeat him in a solo mission? It makes for very weak narrative and uninvested gameplay for PvE content. I'm not saying the raid encounters are bad encounters, but the story progression is all jacked up. Calus should've been a character that we encountered in D2Y2 after a year of fighting Ghaul in the D2 original raid.

Edit: Let me be clear, I'm not suggesting that Bungie create some convoluted means for antagonists to keep returning to life in this game. I'm just trying to suggest that the characters they invest their storytelling into as main antagonists should provide more compelling fights/gameplay. When a character like Ghaul (who was billed pre-launch as the main antagonist of D2) is defeated before players have even reached max level, it makes for disjointed, copy-pasted story-telling.

I used Skolas and Oryx as examples of strong antagonists because the game generally set them up as main antagonists, and in-game encounters with them were appropriately difficult. When we defeated both of those antagonists, it felt like an accomplishment in the Destiny universe.

Bungie, DO NOT be afraid of downtime (story-wise)

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 01:18 AM PST

Downtime isn't a bad thing. The main reason why most of Destiny's campaign are meh at best is because you aren't taking the time to explain to us what actually happened.

I noticed this one of the Destiny 2's and Curse of Osiris' problems, campaign-wise. But it was only after playing Destiny 1's campaign and starting Dark Below that I noticed there's a trend here.

Yesterday, I started replaying Destiny 1's campaign (even deleted my Warlock in order to replay the non-replayable missions).

I literally just finished the very first mission of Dark Below (called "The Sword of Crota") and the dialogue that explains what we're doing is ridiculously vague because it takes downtime to explain and Bungie doesn't want to "waste" time (but they inflate D2's play time by forcing us to level up outside the campaign and walk through the whole campaign without ever giving us a sparrow, ironically enough).

The dialogue from "The Sword of Crota" that prompted me to make this post:

  • {Loading screen}

GHOST: I've been combing the Cryptarch's records for anything on the Temple of Crota. Listen:

MASTER RAHOOL: Long ago, the Moon fell to Crota. He wielded a sword so dark, it drained whatever Light it touched. Now, Crota sleeps, but the Sword does not. The Warlocks believe the Sword is in a chamber guarded by the Swarm Princes. If you face them and steal the sword, we can see that it is never wielded again.

If you know what Rahool is talking about, this piece of dialogue is a little distressing, to say the least. So what actually happened "Long ago"?

You guys ever heard of a little thing called "The Great Disaster", where hundreds of Guardians died? Ye... THAT "little" piece of lore... Here's what actually happened, courtesy of Destinypedia:

  • Prelude

Shortly after discovering the Hive during the battle of Burning Lake, the Vanguard ordered a full-scale assault on the Moon to establish a beachhead. Lord Shaxx, however, warned the Consensus that the Ascendant Swords carried by the Hive Knights were unlike any weapon he'd seen before, and that they should delay the attack.[1]

  • The Battle

Lord Shaxx's pleas were ignored, and the Guardians who arrived fell by the hundreds, as leading the Hive army was the God-Prince Crota, an invincible Knight who devoured the Light of the Guardians.[2] Mare Imbrium was one of the battlefields, as Crota led one thousand Knights against over five hundred Guardians, easily cutting through them. It was claimed the sky above the region "turned into green fire."[3]

During this campaign, an unknown Titan created the first Thunderlord, along with two other machine guns that came to renown. Though the Thunderlord survived, its counterparts were lost.[4]

  • Aftermath

In the aftermath, the Vanguard classified the Moon as forbidden, and not to be visited unless absolutely necessary.[5] One of the survivors of the battle, Eriana-3, swore revenge against Crota and assembled a team of Guardians to enter the Hellmouth alone. Only Eris Morn survived that venture.[6]

It's literally called "The Great Disaster" but Bungie's explanation to the player was "Long ago, Crota conquered the Moon with a sword that drained Light. Crota ain't woke, but the sword still is. Go steal it."

This is the problem as to why the campaigns aren't good. We don't spend enough time with the actual lore. There's no downtime where we interact with characters, in a human way.

The best story focused games in a market have downtime. Without that downtime, those games wouldn't be nearly as great. Uncharted series (but mostly Uncharted 4), The Last of Us, Mass Effect series, Batman: Arkham series, and my favorite— The Witcher series (The Witcher 3, especially). All these games, especially The Witcher 3, have downtime. The Witcher 3 has downtime for every mission (even side-missions), and it's the reason its side missions are regarded as objectively better than any side content the industry has ever come up with. Their side missions feel like main missions instead of a tack-on marker on the map to inflate play-time.

This might be controversial to say in this subreddit, but I honestly don't care about a single character in the whole franchise. I cared about Saint-14 and Osiris (which were lore characters and not actual game characters), but I don't care about them anymore. Especially Osiris, which was so poorly handled in 'Curse of Osiris' I actually dislike him now. If in God of Mars literally every character we know died, I honestly wouldn't care. I don't have ANY emotional attachment to any of the characters.

In contrast, The Witcher 3's ending made me cry (I got the bad ending :/), and TW3 was, effectively, my first The Witcher game (I played TW2 in preparation for TW3, but didn't finish it).

Same thing with The Last of Us. I didn't cry, but I definitely had some tears in my eyes in certain parts of the game. For example, when Joel wants to leave Ellie with his brother, David, and she runs away. When we find her, she says that everyone she cared about has either left her or died, expect Joel. And that saying she would be better off with David is bullshit because the truth is, she would be more scared.

TL;DR: Don't be afraid of downtime. If we're gonna deal with something Crota related for the first time, actually explain to the player what happened and why we lost control of the moon. Explain The Great Disaster. Don't sugar-coat it like you've been doing since vanilla D1.

EDIT I: Didn't expect this to get so many upvotes. It's good to see a portion of the community agrees. I honestly just want to like everything Destiny has to offer. And although there are far more pressing issues with the franchise right now, I think this is still important to the franchise.

Bungie: Exotic Quests for ENERGY fusion rifle, shotgun, sniper

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 10:07 AM PST

Went back to D1 for the first time. Great time in Archon's Forge – Bad Juju no reload or one-shot Dregs with Imago Loop, switched to Fusion Rifle for shielded Captains, then Rocket Launcher for the Servitors. So much fun switching to different levels of firepower for different enemies.

Keep the two primary weapon fights you wanted, but give players the option to emulate the old Primary, Secondary, Heavy load-out. Not asking for tons of secondaries again, just one of each. Would people grind quest lines for an Exotic Fusion Rifle, Shotgun, or Sniper that could equip in the Energy/Secondary slot? How does that change balance in PVP? (Hated shot gunners and snipers too, but loved fusion rifling them.) Not possible programming or design wise? (Looking at you Fighting Lion in energy slot.) Love to hear your thoughts or how I'm wrong. Miss listening to much better players than me debate/make guides for the game.

Not a hardcore player. I'm a Destiny Dad and my daughter and two sons (all college aged) used to play D1 together weekly. Even on different coasts it was a great way to stay in touch with each other. I would have to drop out of our Crucible fireteam to let them do 3-man patrols, but I could still hang-out. Like a lot of people, it got us through some tough times and crappy days.

Maybe I'm the one that needs to move on or they've grown up since they don't play D2 anymore? But wait, I hear them calling me to join their Monster Hunter quest. (Secret wishes - Bungie kept D1 and just added the new planets to the old map and gave us new things like – let me fly my ship in a Crucible space dogfight. Or do the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs with my Grey Pigeon. Sparrow racing made sparrows relevant, just want my ship to be more than a screen saver.)

Bring back the magic Bungie. Tank up the community. I miss my fireteam.

All I ever wanted is to farm for gear with my friends, endlessly.

Posted: 05 Mar 2018 11:29 PM PST

Been a while since I quit D2. Although it has been 2 months (DLC release), I still have a little bit of resentment towards this game, maybe more of an emotional disappointment more than anything. After all, I did not just buy the game for myself, I bought it for two of my best friends.

Taking a quick look at what being promised by the Dev team for the future of D2 makes me think, the game absolutely learned nothing. It is still going to be a cosmetic looter, the power being added is out right pathetic and there is 0 changes to how one class is being played no matter what gear you collect and no matter what you do.

What I wanted is Set items that changes how an entire class functions, yet D2 getting cosmetic stats swap, which were quite pointless in the first place.

I wanted weapons to aim for and build my character around, but alas, they are all still the same weak sauce that adds nothing to the game play.

I wanted endless difficulty that can be over come with better gear and different play style, but nay the endless forest is just a waste of time.

All I wanted is to be a space wizard with endless tools and weapons demolishing hordes and hordes of aliens with friends, hoping for that perfect drop but nay.

I really just wanted to overcome challenging fights and spend my free time with my friends farming and looking for that illusive drop.

But nah, you get cosmetic stats, cosmetic weapons and cosmetic sets cause PvP is da shit.

Do we have a response from the Sandbox team in regards to Cozmo asking them about TTK changes?

I'm letting the Sandbox team know everyone's feedback on lowering the "TTK." I know everyone is eager to hear what else is changing with the sandbox. I'll see if they have anything else to share.

Do they have anything to share? Or do we have to wait for the once a week discussion still? Does trials need to hit 40k players before there is any urgency?

Played D1 over the weekend, it was like a victory tour. I can't wait to play again. I never thought I'd miss the Trespasser. What's the thing you missed after going back?

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 05:17 AM PST

POE, Heroic Strikes, Crucible were all still right there as I remember. Even POE was a pleasure to play. I started screwing around with exotics and started shredding with the Trespasser. Mobs and several arc shielded yellow bar enemies lie in my wake.

I used to run POE solo for a slight challenge, but I ran a level 41 with matchmaking. I zoned in alone, but I quickly had 2 other guardians. This happened frequently when D1 moved on from POE before.

I guess I'm still shocked by how much I missed the Trespasser. I mean, I still missed all the actual exotic Exotics, but the Trespasser?! Anyone have something similar?

The Thundergasm PvE build

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 06:18 AM PST

Here's a build I've been playing with recently in PvE:

Mandatory:

  • Striker titan with top tree for double grenades (I prefer pulse grenades for this)
  • RiskRunner
  • An Insurmountable Skullfort

Optional:

  • MW kinetic & heavy
  • 10 recovery armour
  • arc grenade mods x 3

With this build you see a group of enemies, throw a grenade at your feet to proc RiskRunner and just zap all of the enemies with chain lightning and without reloading for 5 seconds. I find enemies don't tend to survive longer than those 5 seconds anyway but if they do then either throw another grenade (if there's lots), shoulder charge them (see below) or swap to a MW weapon and generate some orbs!

When your grenades are on cooldown, get a few shoulder charge kills! Insurmountable Skullforts perk fully regens your shoulder charge if you get a kill with it AND restores some grenade energy to help you get it back faster. Just make sure to aim for weak enemies (dregs, thrall, etc) or weaken them first to guarantee the kill.

If your enemies happen to use arc weapons - take advantage of it and wreck with RiskRunner without wasting your grenades!

I haven't done the damage numbers but on bosses you can use your grenades for DPS, or if it's a boss that moves around a lot (so won't take the full pulse grenade damage) then throw it at your feet and use risk runner to DPS for 5 seconds of continuous shooting. Pro tip: run up to a boss and throw the grenade so you both get hit to DPS with the grenade and Risk runner! (Be careful of the stomp attack that will likely kill you if you try this!)

Got a team of 3? Try using 3 Stormcaller warlocks wearing aeon souls instead. When each of you throw a grenade at your feet you'll regen grenade energy so you'll be able to have it back in time for the next fight! (disclaimer - I don't have friends to try this with so this is pure theory crafting)

If you're feeling bored in PvE then give the build a go! It has a really aggressive playstyle and I guarantee you'll have the most kills by the end of a strike!

Solo 60k High Score Prestige Nightfall (The Pyramidion + General Tips)

Posted: 06 Mar 2018 02:12 PM PST

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nu-2_fg-ICM

Just a video of solo'ing the Prestige Nightfall this week while also hitting the 60,000 point threshold!

First and foremost, if you wanted to know the intricate details of every single section for this strike I'd highly suggest that you use the following guide by /u/thefadden who did a great write-up for all the Nightfalls: https://bigflake.com/destiny2/pyramidion.html - basically everything in there is something you can use to control the enemies and how to approach them. It's a little different without Torrent, but mostly the same approaches.

Now for this week in particular, there's a couple of things to note. Without Torrent the shielded enemies in this strike are a lot more annoying. Most of the areas take longer to clear and the boss fight needs to be played a bit safer. As an overall, I'd mostly suggest using either Arc Singe or Void Singe this week. Both have their drawbacks and I'll explain them below.

What Singe to use?

Arc Singe works amazing for the boss, there's no Arc damage at all on the boss fight and all the Harpy shields are Arc, allowing for quite a few shield break explosions and easier clears. The downside is that nearly all the Taken enemies do Arc damage, making the rest of the strike more dangerous.

Void Singe is great for clearing out the Taken in the strike as all the Acolytes have Void Shields which you can break and chain to easily clear the packs. The downside to this is both the entrance (all the orange bar Vex have Void Cannons) and the boss fight (the boss fire is Void, the Harpies also fire Void). So it makes the overall clear quite a bit faster, but the boss fight does become more dangerous.

Solar Singe.. well the boss does Solar damage on his sniper (I'm pretty sure), along with most of the Vex doing Solar damage on their default shots. Wouldn't personally recommend this, but it could work.

Personally I'd suggest going with Arc Singe for the solo (which is what I did in this run), and perhaps Void Singe for groups.

Boss Fight
The only overly major difference to the old Nightfall is how you handle the boss now. This is more of a slower work it down approach, rather than just burning the boss as fast as you can. Where all the wall spawns is the same, so you can use knowing these to your advantage.

The 4 plates you activate should be handled normally, clear all the adds and use cover to activate each plate. Once the boss is out of his two jails is when you want to handle it a little different.

To start you want to use the cover near the last plate you activate during the fight (in between the two jails). This wall will still up until you deal a certain amount of damage to him, and the boss will remain near his initial spawn. Use this block to clear the enemies that spawn and hide from the boss. Harpies will spawn in this wave, so use an Arc energy weapon to make use of exploding their shields. Once you've cleared the adds you can then deal some more damage to the boss. This will push him to the center of the room and remove the cover from where you are. The next set of blocks to spawn will be to your right (facing the boss spawn), so move to those and use those as cover.

Once again more adds will spawn and you will deal with them from the right of the room. This time there will be Fanatics rushing at you, so keep an eye out for those and kill them as soon as possible. Clear this set of adds and you'll be left with the boss alone once again. Can continue to push damage into him, and the next walls that spawn will be where the boss initially spawns in (the very first plate to start the fight), along with the left side of the room (if you're facing the boss spawn from the middle).

Start by using the cover near the boss spawn and clearing the enemies as they spawn in. When you get the chance, make a move to the left side of the room as you have more cover to use there. Clear all the enemies that spawn in until you're left with only the boss remaining and prepare for the final burn.

For this part, you want to move up to where the boss spawns in so you're nice and close to the boss. He'll be on the right side of the room, making it a nice and close shot for your rockets. Work him down a little and then fire some rockets into him to break his head off and force the final phase. At this point you want to pop your Arc Super + Grenades onto him, and with this burn it should finish the boss off. This approach will work on Striker Titan, Arcstrider (w/ Raiden Flux ideally) and even Stormcaller (probably the worst of the 3). May just need to get a feel for when his health with push and how many rockets to fire before / after super. But I personally think that's the easiest approach!

Otherwise the rest of the strike is just mostly taking it a little slower from afar and killing everything in the strike. It isn't too bad at all once you learn the spawns, but it may take a little getting used to without Torrent.

I think that should cover mostly everything between /u/thefadden 's guide and the boss fight approach here :)

Any other questions feel free to ask!

So... It just occured to me that in the MIDA Mini-Tool's thumbnail, there's the MIDA Multi-Tool in the background

I always thought Mini-Tool's thumbnail felt a bit busy but I never knew why it felt that way. Just zoomed it and I feel absolutely bamboozled right now.

EDIT: And it also the same for Drang with Sturm in its thumbnail's background! Bamboozled².

Destiny finally looks like a proper MMO with local Tower chat.

All that's missing is a RP clan.

I opened the roster and didn't find that user. I don't think there was even a character loaded in the Tower since it kept being spammed after I checked.

edit: Happened again. Yep, the text is coming in from somewhere else, the sender doesn't have to load into the tower to spam the ad and push current conversations into the stratosphere. This is gonna be fun.
