Has anyone done a magic-phobia playthrough?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 04:19 AM PST

So I'm playing a nord barbarian who is phobic of magic. She won't even TOUCH a magic item. Which means no selling magic items, casting healing spells, or using potions/scrolls/enchantments.

I thought it might get boring quickly but it's actually turning out to be my most engaging and challenging playthrough yet. Gold doesn't just fall into my lap, I actually have to hustle for it. Enemies womp my ass and I can't cheese my way out of it with potions...(but i can with actual cheese.)

Cooking actually feels useful for once!

The Dragonborns true calling is to be a chef

Think about it. The DB knows every recipe from the start of the game, can create a meal in 2 seconds flat, and is presumably an avid cheese thi- I mean enthusiast.

I am obviously backed by a ton of evidence here.

It's a common misconception that Skyrim Horses run away when threatened, they actually do this instead:

A deeper look at frostbite spiders.

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 11:26 AM PST

Before I get into this, just take note that I am a entomology student and all around arthropod enthusiast, so just because this is exciting to me might not mean anyone else agrees. I have no idea where else to post this discovery, but during a skyrim relapse in which I played a modded spider themed character, I was examining the frostbite spiders and noticed that they're incredibly un-spiderlike. SO I looked up some info and found aa few good art pieces like this which really show off their anatomy more. I quickly realized that they seem more closely related to solifugids than true spiders, and I just want to get everyone else's opinions on this in case they also were interested. What's interesting is the shape/striping of the abdomen (butt of the spider), the chelicerae (mouth) having two large "fangs" on top and two smaller ones on bottom, the way the chelicerae hang off the front of the head in both cases, and the fact that they seemingly have 10 legs total, when in fact the final set of legs is really just a pair of pedipalps (specialized bug feeling organs) that are usually quite small in almost all true spiders. The fact that the frostbite spiders use venom and webbing (which solifugids lack) counters this, but from a general view of their actual body plan it seems to me that the frostbite spider is not actually a spider, but in fact just a distant relative that is closer related to scorpions and ticks than true spiders.

Edit: Tonight I'm going to do an analysis of the Falmer's Chaurus livestock, as I recall that they seem quite detailed in design even though I rarely ever encounter them. Their Life Cycle from egg, to Chaurus, to hunter seems closely related to insect metamorphosis, so it might make an interesting topic.
