[Story] My Son And I Did Our First Proper Legendary Raid

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 06:07 PM PST

After Karate practice, I took my son around the park near the dojo to hit som pokestops. On the way, we saw a gym with a legendary egg about to hatch. There were several cars parked in the parking lot near by. We had a few minutes before the egg hatched so went to get the pokestops and then came back. There were several people there getting ready for the Raquaza raid and we joined in. All together there were 8 of us.

The battle was pretty tough. Both my son and I were knocked out and had to rejoin the fight with fresh pokemon, but we managed to beat him. Then came the catching.

We only had about 8 balls each to try. I tossed out a golden rasberry on each through. I manage to get him on the second to last ball. My son was trying his hardest and the best he got was two shakes before the Raquaza busted out of the last one. My son was devastated. He is doing better now, and I promised him I would help him find another raid and try again.

More bag space please ?

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 07:33 AM PST

Anyone else really wishing for another bag upgrade? 1500 was great before but I wish I could save up a higher count of rare candies and whatnot without having to sacrifice space for pokeballs/healing items. I spent like 300+ between beldum/mewtwo/trapinch just to make space again for everything else. I wish they would just bump it up too like 3,000 or higher. I'd buy strait up too it instantly

(Edit) So after reading all this interesting chit chat... would like to point out that everyone plays differently. I get it that for some 450 (or whatever number ) works for you, but there are those of us who play pretty hard and honestly can blow through an entire bag full in a day. Between all day raiding or all an all day catch grind you go through items pretty fast. Also throw a gotcha/go+ in there and youll have no pokeballs left even while spinning stops at the same time. It would just be nice if we could have the option to upgrade to a much much larger bag size. For some of us 1500 just isn't enough.

It's great having to use fire types again and for the 1st time ever poison type attackers.

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 09:05 AM PST

I know many of us who love soloing level 3s are disappointed in Niantic's decision to choose jynx and azumarill as raid bosses but looking at the glass half full I'm actually happy to battle them even though they could've chosen "better" pokémon.

Arcanine was one of the 1st pokémon in gyms that I saw back when the game 1st started and I was in love with it. Took time to get my 1st (which had poor stats before I understood how important they were but it was mine) but I got it and kept it to this day. They eventually got nerfed, became irrelevant with the meta constantly changing but now I can finally use them again. Sure entei, flareon and moltres all hit harder but arcanine was and still is my day one and thanks to the year of the dog event we had last week I was able to catch 4 high IV weather boosted growlithes to add to the 2 arcanines I had before. The best part is that I don't even have to power them up. Did my 1st jynx solo yesterday and they along with one entei defeated the ice queen with ease. Piloswine I'm sure will be a challenge since it has ground and rock moves but I'm looking forward to it.

Azumarill is another that I'm glad to see as a tier 3 boss because for the 1st time ever I'll be able to use my high CP/IV victrebells with poison moves in a real one on one battle. Azumarill also learns ice beam so I expect that not everyone of them I face will be easily defeated by my 3 victrebells followed by 3 exeggutors.

So again looking at this as a glass half full situation, I think this was a good move despite there being better options. Cheers.

[Idea] Show time defended upon return in journal

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 10:24 AM PST

I had a Pokemon in a secluded gym for just over a month - I know many of you have that beat twice over, but I was happy with it.

It'd be nice if the Journal showed how long you held the gym for. "Pikachu has returned after 6 hours" type thing. Let us know how long they were in there total and give us a chance to screenshot it.

On the positive side, I have that Pokemon back and can take another gym elsewhere now. ;)

You know what makes you feel like a baller?

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 02:56 PM PST

Droppin' six golden razzberries on a gym where you don't even know the other trainers.

I mean, don't get me wrong, you should still make sure the gym has a strong spread in it. I did this with a Vaporeon, and the other ones in the gym were a Walrein, a Slaking, a Lapras, a Snorlax, and a Venusaur.

But yeah... feels nice.

My sister who used to spoof finally got banned but I still see her into a gym

My sister who used to spoof finally got banned! As a matter of fact when she tries to login she get the message "Failed to get game data from server". But I still see her into a gym, how is that even possible?

Are you more likely to get a shiny from raids?

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 06:35 PM PST

I know that Mawile and absol have pretty good shiny chances but they are raid exclusive. I haven't had anyone in my Pokémon go group find a shiny magickarp, sableye, swablu, snorunt from raids. Is it still the same chance as a wild encounter? If not what are the chances for them?

Pokémon Day

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 03:33 PM PST

Did we have any kind of event on Pokémon Day last year? Pokémon Day is on February 27th. Just saw Pokémon Day post on official Pokémon page on Twitter, so I was wondering if we had any event last year.

What Pokémon do you want to see for March Community Day?

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 04:44 PM PST

Not even sure what our options are, but what are your guys' best guess/hopes the next featured Pokémon will be? Personally I would love it to be Magikarp so I can finally get a shiny, or Larvitar (with the hopes of a shiny release as-well) however knowing Niantic it will probably be something lame like Eevee (which wouldn't be too bad if there was a chance of shiny)

We don't even know if Dratini will be shiny this coming Saturday, which everyone expects, I think Niantic HAS to now with all the hype from last time

THOUGHTS?

Evolve a shiny or strong Karp?

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 12:48 PM PST

So, I have an issue quickly approaching. I am nearly at 400 Magikarp candies, but I'm not sure which to evolve: my shiny Karp with shit IVs or my regular one with nearly perfect IVs (95.6%). Do I go for the awesome looking red Gyarados or a strong in battle blue Gyarados? Has anyone else run into a similar issue? One of my friends had to make the same choice with Altaria recently but that wasn't as bad because Swablu are everywhere right now.

What the real difference with the IV

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 01:21 PM PST

hello trainers, after so much reading into it I still haven't full understand what the real difference with the IV is. I just wanna give you an example and maybe you can help me out.

example:

1) kyogre, level 20, 93Iv,

15 attack, 13 Def, 14 stamina

2)kyogre level 20, 82iv,

13atack, 13 Def, 12 stamina

so yeah ppl sum up everything and say 93 is better. I get it. it have better stats ofc. but what does this actually mean what is the actual difference on those 2..

is it like 20% more dmg and 20% life? or more like 5% or like 0,5%? and what is the effect on gym atacks? is it like 1sec faster or more like 10 or whatever?

is there any site where I can compare 2 pokemon with each other to see exactly what I was asking for?

I hope you guys got my question here, greetings from a non native english speaking player!

I never played the main series games so I thought I'd ask you more advanced pokémon game players.

Gym repeatedly returning to grey.

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 05:16 AM PST

Be kind. I normally just lurk. I'm level 35 and an older player. I'm not technically minded and my kids laugh as I'm not up to speed with the intricacies and stats for detailed playing. I just love the game and have played since it was launched.

My question is about a constantly grey gym. I'm in a city so lots of gyms and pokestops in the immediate area. The gym is a gold level for me (I'm team Instinct). It's a statue in the exact centre of a grass only park and I can clearly see it from my apartment. There are absolutely no other structures in the park to obscure my view.

For the last three days the gym is constantly grey. All other gyms in the area are normal. If I put a Pokemon on the gym within 10 mins it goes grey again. And no one has been near enough to battle it (as I said, I can clearly see it from my apartment). I've put a Pokemon on this morning and before I'd left the park it was back to grey (no one else there).

It's not just for happening for me though. Twenty mins ago I watched the gym become Mystic and the trainer started to walk out of the park. The gym changed instantly back to grey. I could clearly see the guy looking about him as there was no one else in park besides him.

Could it be related to the fact that this gym was the location for an ex-raid last month?

I can't find anything on here that seems similar to this to explain what is happening.

I wish there was a test case which made sure the Pokémon did not cover the CP. same with Groudon. They fixed Kyogre but not the others. Other than than that I got a shiny :)

Leaving Pokémon in gyms

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:31 PM PST

Having trouble figuring out how to leave a Pokémon in my color gym. I know it has to be a gym of my color with less than 6 to leave one, but I can't find the button on the screen to leave one. Hoping to defend and earn coins! Thanks in advance.

Sick as a dog with the flu...what can I do for community day?[question]

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:22 PM PST

It's been a while since I got the flu and it's kicking my butt right now. I was looking forward to all you can eat dratini candy.

I am not a fan of lending out my phone for someone else to farm. Options?

[Humor] sunny weather=depressed, cloudy=excited

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:09 PM PST

https://imgur.com/a/cn0Vj Some of you might relate. In Los Angles is sunny most of the time, so you get tired of geodudes, rhyhorn and digglets, and some people are hopping for clouldy for raltz or partly cloudy to find the high iv slakoth. anyways it reminded me of an old Garfield comic, with pokemon go we feel the oppoisite
