[OC] Giant League of Legends Photomosaics using all 960 skins exactly once Posted: 15 Feb 2018 05:52 AM PST League of Legends Photomosaics Hi everyone! I noticed that patch 8.3 had a nice round number of skins (960 including the "base" skin of each champion) so I wrote a program to make photomosaics out of the loading screens! Each photomosaic uses each loading screen tile exactly once, so each photomosaic is simply a rearrangement of the same 960 images. My program simply measures the "Euclidean distance" of each pixel from the target image and attempts to find an arrangement that minimizes this value. It starts with a greedy approach, placing the one tile adds the smallest value to the total until it has placed all tiles, but this approach isn't very effective. So it then starts picking random pairs of tiles and swapping them if doing so would improve the score. It repeats this until it is 99.9% sure that no additional improving swap exists. This still isn't guaranteed to make the best photomosaic possible, since a 3 or more cycle permutation may be required to achieve the optimal arrangement, but it is now at least very close to optimal and creates some beautiful images that I wanted to share :) To add to the effect, the mosaics have a 15% opacity overlay of the target image. This improves the readability of the macro image and makes the photomosaic really pop, but I empathize with anyone who feels that this somewhat "ruins" the effect. So I have included a copy of each mosaic without this "cheating" overlay. These copies are made up of purely unaltered loading screen tiles :D Each of these images is ONLY a specific arrangement of the same 960 tiles with no added effects. For anyone counting, as of patch 8.3 there are exactly 821 skins in the game. This number does not include the "border" versions of otherwise identical skins such as Dawnbringer - Order Riven vs the standard Dawnbringer Riven or Champsionship Ashe - Special Edition vs the standard Championship Ashe, but it does include both PAX Sivir and Neo PAX Sivir since there are two distinct splash arts (different colors). Add this number to the 139 "base" skins of each champion to get the total 960 loading screen tiles used in each of these photomosaics. To be even more clear, Sweetheart Rakan and Sweetheart Xayah are the newest skins included in these mosaics. For people from the future, the earliest skins NOT included in these mosaics are Dark Star Jarvan and Dragon Master Swain, because they aren't released yet! :) Feel free to download any of the mosaics and try to find your favorite skin in each! They are all included exactly once ;) [link] [comments]

The 5 inevitable phases of League Posted: 15 Feb 2018 05:33 AM PST Phase 1: You hear about this game from some friends, and decide to give it a try. At first, it is overwhelming, but that just makes it more fun to explore. And for a while, everything really is fun. You browse the store for the coolest looking champion. You discover that smite doesn't work on champions, only the neutral things. Ignite is actually good. You find out that a guy from your middle school you were never really friends with, also plays League! You slowly grind your way to 30, learning new things every day. You use your refunds just to buy the same champion again, you laugh at everyone that mains support (because it is too easy for a mechanical g0d like you). You pop your flameginity on an innocent child because he stole your kill, but you laugh about in chat and on voip, it wasn't really your kill, and you know it. Soon enough (even though it feels like an eternity, it is going to be just a fraction of the time you end up spending on the game) you hit 30, and you play your first ranked games. I call this phase "innocent". Phase 2: Before your first ranked games, you warm up with some normals. Go to the bathroom, get a drink. You're ready. You're going to perform. You do your placements with your friend from middle school, even though he fucking suck. Game 1, afker. Game 2, flamer. Game 3, your botlane decides to hit this years charity goal by feeding the 5 players on the opposite team. You play like horseshit in the next 7 games, but nevermind. You get placed in Bronze II. What!? Only Bronze? I am way better than the people in Bronze! You console yourself with the fact that even though you were unlucky in your placements, you will definitely climb out in the season's remaining 5 months. 5 months later, you receive your Bronze III border. Great. Up until this point, you may have been playing other games at the same time as League. You've invested time and money (maybe you even have some fake internet friends to play with) and you are used to juggling your time between several games. That era is now over. You realize that playing League is a monogamous relationship, and mistresses are not allowed. "Still innocent" Phase 3: You're no longer a newbie. You start to understand how Riot treats the game, how patches work, and you have an understanding of game's history and timeline. If you're lucky, you realize that you suck ass at this like everyone else does, but most likely your level of introspection can fit on a teaspoon. This is also where you start to browse /r/leagueoflegends and follow e-sports. League becomes something more - it is a community, something you can be a part of. And you like it! You were never on the football team or had any friends or anything like that, so you enjoy this newfound feeling of belonging, that everyone else has had since they started school (go, you!). League slowly starts to permeate your daily life. You check the subreddit multiple times a day, your Youtube-feed is filled by proplayer-montages even though you never subscribed to any of them, and you start measuring time in how many League games you can fit into them. You perceive yourself as a casual gamer, but in reality you play at least a couple of games every day you are able to - it has become a permanent in your routine. Come home from school, dinner, half-ass you homework, hide your mess under your room, jerk off in the shower, play League for as long as you can. Sound sad when you put it like that, doesn't it? But because it happened gradually, you never took notice. It is still fun though, kind of. "Happily oblivious, but the beginning of the end" Phase 4: By now you have invested so much time (and your parents money) in League that playing anything else feels like a waste (the irony, amirite). Besides, why try to learn cs:go when you can stay in the comfortable embrace of something you already know? Because League has become part of your every day, it starts to mean more to you than what a game should. For the majority of us, a game should be something to unwind with, to escape inside, to have fun with. However, when 3 hours of your 7-8 hours of free time is spent on League every day (conservative estimate in case my parents read this), it quickly becomes more. You feel like you have wasted your time if you didn't win tonights matches, because you have spent 3400 hours learning it and sacrificied 4.0 gpa for it. What was the point of playing if you were just going to lose? (because it isn't fun to win if you never lose, but nevermind). Suddenly the evenings matches determine your outlook of the day. Did you win both your matches and carried? Fuck yes I am way better than my friends at school, you think to yourself laying in bed besides your waifu body pillow (Saber<3). But if you lost, you become angry and regret playing, even though you were the one who got caught warding their fucking fountain. It has stopped being fun, it is just something you repeatedly do without thinking - a bad habit. It doesn't have to be bad, but you have made it bad, and it is certainly a habit. Despite being aware of this deep inside, you keep going because it is harder to change than to remain a slave. Also, you have become addicted to the mini-rewards that the games constantly provides your brain with, which is why you always hop right into game without thinking. Cool beans. "The reason why Plato, Kirkegaard and Beauvoir ranked humans into categories (fucking subhumans)" Phase 5: Finally, something happens. Maybe you get hit with that juicy banhammer, maybe you graduate and move, maybe your computer breaks down from all the sperm blocking the fan. It doesn't matter, but something makes you stop playing for a while. You're free. And if you're lucky, a moment of revelation is bestowed upon you. You look at the frontpage of /leagueoflegends and think, "do I really care about what x pro said about making playoffs? Aren't they all saying the same every time? And why the fuck is someone posting about Alistar/Tristana/Garen skins? What do I care? What am I expecting to appear after I refresh the page for the 4th time? Why do I watch some pro make plays that I see in plat every day?" It is much like the moment right after you bust a nut, and that wave of disguist washes over you. You realize you've been playing this game for 5 years, a time longer than you've been friends with your best friend that you met in high school. You realize you could have learned 2 languages, been a bodybuilder, read 100 books or been social instead of mindlessly spamming League games just to get out of gold. Like coming off a drug, you still check the subreddit and watch videos of League when you're bored - this can go on for a long time. It is the entire ecosystem of it, the forums, LCS etc., that Riot has created to ensure that we never leave them. And what do you know? It seems to work pretty well. The chains of habits are light until they are too heavy to be broken. "Personally attacked by the accuracy" Happy Chinese New Years (the celebration starts tonight, you uncultured imperialist swines) you fucking 农民s :----) edit: some formatting [link] [comments]

I drew Xayah from Rakan's perspective for Valentine's Posted: 15 Feb 2018 02:43 AM PST Here. I didn't have enough time to draw Rakan too but felt sad drawing her alone so incorporated him this way. My bf had the great idea to add a second version for showing her after she notices him. As always I recorded myself drawing for anyone interested :D [link] [comments]

Why would anyone vote 'No' on a remake? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 08:21 AM PST I mean. One afk even if he comes back is such a disadvantage in a competitive mode. I am speaking about ranked games. Why is there a vote on this? Couldn't it be just an automatic remake if someone does '/remake' if the dude is not gonna be back after 3 minutes? I remember someone accidentally going for 'No', not because he was toxic and wanted to imprison us (which could happen as well). No, he was just never surrendering his games and was pressing 'No' on reflex. Edit: [link] [comments]
Why is smurfing so accepted in LoL? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 02:32 AM PST I mainly mean most youtubers who are plat-/diamond-ish and then play in silver/gold elo for their videos. I do not mean challenger players who have smurf accounts to not have a 30 minute queue. EDIT: Seems like it is not as accepted by reddit. I came to the conclusion since youtubers/streamers who do this are doing rather well and for example have 1k likes vs 10 dislikes. EDIT 2: In case someone wonders this post was inspired by professor akalis newer videos with 40 ranked wins in a row and all those "THIS IS THE NEW OP SHIT" videos where some plat player destroys silver players EDIT 3: I do not want to acuse RIOT of anything. It is difficult to battle smurfs and besides there are a few good reasons to smurf. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Feb 2018 05:05 AM PST When Riot announced the new LvLing system they also talked about potential double EXP weekends (in the comments)(similar to the IP Weekends we had). Did we receive any further information on those? Did they get scrapped? Are they working on it? [link] [comments]

Tracker's Knife should not be removed since Sightstone is no longer available Posted: 15 Feb 2018 02:50 AM PST 1) Nasty nerf to Lee Sin and other junglers that use wards with certain skills 2) Have to buy duskblade or somehow complete a support quest if you want to both ward and clear vision more than once. You're completely reliant on your one pink ward. 3) Pro play is slower with less vision, not faster. Less information makes plays more risky without increasing the reward 4) Sucks for players that prefer a more supportive jungle style [link] [comments]
How many skins I've got for free from riot. Posted: 15 Feb 2018 06:54 AM PST Since so many players seems to have so much negative things to say about hextech crafing and and event loot. I just want to tell you how much i've enjoyed it. Here are all the skins I got without spending anything. annie in wonderland arcade ahri unchained alistair dreadknight garen Rumble in the jungle Skt t1 zac mafia graves arcade ezreal Riot blitzcrank Spirit fire brand ice toboggan corki victorious janna Victorious elise victorious sivir victorious morgana explorer ezreal tpa ezreal king of clubs mordekaiser soaring sword fiora santa gragas conqueror karma riot kayle victorius maokai victorius graves marauder olaf headhunter rengar pirate ryze triumphant ryze riot girl tristana worldbreaker trundle kingping twitch grey warwick I would also like to add that I upgraded alot of epic skins meaning I could of had even more skins if i'd wanted. This is also only 1 account, I have another account with just a few less skins than this one. And on a final note hextech crafting wasn't around for a majority of the games existence. Had this system been out in season 2 when I started playing league I would for sure have over a hundred free skins. [link] [comments]

Throwback Thursday: A how-to for every Champion...from 6 years ago. How far we've come. Posted: 15 Feb 2018 03:36 AM PST Posted this here before when I cleaned out my hard drive. Galio's R is for sure the coolest ability in LoL Posted: 15 Feb 2018 03:30 AM PST I thought of this while watching the lcs. I mean, how cool is to watch this giant colossus going down ape shit, smashing all the things on his path? How can be something be cooler than that? [link] [comments]
Nocturne is so unpopular that people dont even laugh at him being unpopular Posted: 15 Feb 2018 12:39 PM PST His splashart is one of the coolest in the game and he has a cool style. I would really like to see him getting a minor rework like Rengar (except dont fuck him) so I would start playing him. Is there any recent information about him? About a rework or something?
