[SC] Updated Benchmarks (06/02 Patch)

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 07:43 AM PST

Hello everyone,

After the Feb 6 patch, our players dedicated a lot of time into figuring out the optimal team compositions and best classes for raids. Once again, we are happy to provide our results to the community.

First off, benchmarks that are very RNG heavy are now done on the largest hitbox golem to reduce the RNG necessary to get good DPS. That should make it easier to achieve numbers close to optimal.

Alacrity

While some people might think that this is a huge nerf since Alacrity got lowered from 33% to 25%, it isn't for every situation. Alacrity being a boon means having an uptime on your party close to 100% on every raid scenario. It also increases DPS for classes like elementalist since Bountiful Power gives you an extra 2% damage increase now.

Confusion

Confusion got completely butchered in PvE and it is never worth using any skill that only applies Confusion now. The Confusion change is a nerf for PvE and ends up making classes like condi engineer not even use their confusion skills anymore.

Regeneration

Regeneration was changed, so that, rather than the regeneration-stack with the longest duration, the regeneration stack with the strongest healing power will get prioritised by the game. This means, that if you run a healing spec, you no longer need any boon duration for your regeneration to tick. This doesn't change any of the healing builds, as boon duration is still desirable on most heal specs (Druid, which currently is the best healer spec, still needs boon duration for might as an example).

Class Specific Changes

Elementalist ( /u/DerpyMoa , /u/hintkei )

Despite the Alacrity nerf Weaver only got buffed in this patch thanks to Chronos being able to supply more boons now than before by running Chaos. Since 8+ boons is standard now, the Air build got pushed out of meta outside of KC. Glyph of Storms received a nice cooldown change too which makes casting it in Fire a viable choice in a few scenarios now. The Sword buffs were irrelevant since those skills don't get used, but the high amount of boons made the Sword build run Arcane now too and it's a viable alternative for really small hitboxes like Sabetha.

Necromancer ( /u/Farbstoff )

Necromancer remains in a mediocre position. While it received a few buffs (such as the buff to Vampiric Presence), it's still only optimal on a few bosses, especially if there is the possibility to properly epi bounce.

Mesmer ( /u/VanGherwen , /u/Yujisa )

This balance patch focused especially on the Mesmer and how this Profession interacted with the world. In one sentence, these changes can be summed up as: "Phantasms become clones after their initial attack." A lot has changed for Mesmer, it now requires you to play a lot more actively than before.

Chronomancer Support

Alacrity is now a boon and therefore benefits from the concentration stat. In general you want to aim for 80%+ duration on Quickness and Alacrity making Firebrand Rune useless again and Runes that cover all boons mandatory. The rotations didn't change much and even got a little bit easier since you don't have to pay attention to the quickness cap and can just cast your Signet of Inspiration, lesser Signet of Inspiration and Well of Action at the same time. The only thing that changed is that you now always have more Quickness and Alacrity than the rest of your subgroup, players have to know the boonuptime of their party instead its own.

Chronomancer DPS

There are some interesting changes of the Damage capabilities of the Chronomancer. Due to the change of how Phantasms work with the Chronomancers trait, Chronophantasma is now a massive upgrade to the Mesmer's damage. The new iDefender and iDisenchanter are some of the best damage options mesmer received. Overall Chronomancer can use those new tools to achieve competitive DPS with a pretty good burst.

Mirage Condition

Due to the Confusion nerf, Anet had to change the Axe skill of Mirage from Confusion into Torment. The clone and phantasm build now coexist in one build due to the change as to how phantasms work. You now use the classic condition weapons Torch and Pistol again for DPS and don't have to worry about getting rid of the phantasm since it will change into a clone. The change from Confusion into Torment did hurt the Mirage's DPS capabilities in a real scenario since the enemy attack rate doesn't influence the DPS anymore, but rather how often the boss moves.

Guardian ( /u/LN_Nightmare , /u/DerpyMoa )

Firebrand Condition

For Firebrand nothing really changed for PvE. The changes were mainly PvP or WvW relevant. The DPS Numbers are slightly higher than pre-patch, but this is because of the new Golem sizes.

Dragonhunter Power

Alacrity change hurt Dragonhunter the most out of all classes because now the whole rotation is way slower which resulted in a ~1.5k DPS loss. This also opened up more space in the rotation for Sword of Justice instead of Test of Faith. While the dps loss isn't that bad it makes other classes outperform it now by a lot, like Weaver which got buffed only. Dragonhunter will still stay viable, not for its DPS, but for its buffs (Bane Signet sharing for Eles and Stability at Sloth) and cc.

Revenant ( /u/LN_Nightmare )

Renegade Condition

Not much changed for Devastation Renegade, only that you have to auto attack more often due to Alacrity nerf. This also changed the Invocation Renegade rotation, now you have to use Axe 4 at some points in your rotation to stay below 10 Energy for Legend Swap.

Warrior ( /u/LN_Nightmare , /u/GokuKr , /u/Sangi_rT , /u/Target_Sc )

Berserker Condition: DPS

The trait Inspiring Battle Standard in the Discipline Traitline got buffed (50% stronger banner effects for Warrior), because of that reason DPS Berserker now uses the Discipline Traitline over Tactics. With this Traitline your whole rotation has changed, so watch the Benchmark video for the new rotation. We decided to do the Big Hitbox Benchmark on a "Huge" Golem to minimize the RNG grind. Blaze Breaker can hit up to 5 times on Large Hitbox, but you have to stand in a really specific position. On Huge Hitbox Blaze Breaker will always hit 5 times. On Small Hitbox Blaze Breaker can hit up to 3 Times. We don't know if this is intended, but Scorched Earth hits twice on Big Hitboxes. Overall you can see that Berserker Condition DPS is pretty strong and at the moment it is one of the best Condition DPS Classes.

Spellbreaker Power: Greatsword Axe Axe

Disclaimer: We have chosen the Greatsword variant for Power Spellbreaker as we feel that it is more realistic since proccing wastrel's ruin on dagger is too RNG dependent. We will do more testing in order to see where the dagger variant could be viable.

Due to the recent buffs on multiple traits and skills, the power warrior has finally been revived from the dead. It has become a pretty decent DPS option in raids with a high skill cap, but rewarding rotation. The buffs to the Discipline Traitline are really welcome since Fast Hands is a core mechanic of warrior and make its gameplay unique, interesting and fun. 2013-2014 Dungeon warriors and everyone else can rejoice and feel like real fighters instead of fire spitting archers. Concerning the Banner Power variant, we still need to test it in a real raid scenario. The Condi Banner build is in a strong spot, but power might be viable on bosses like KC and Samarog. Maybe even as a core vanilla Warrior.

Ranger ( /u/Aerieel , /u/eaSyRoca )

Druid Condition

Not a lot changed for Condi-Druid, other than the cooldowns being slightly longer due to Alacrity changes. Overall, this slightly delays your rotation, but it's barely noticeable. We decided to change the Light on your Feet rotation slightly to make it a bit more realistic for actual raids by making you dodge less and adding more passive memes. If you struggle with filling your Celestial Avatar, you can replace one armor piece with Seraph stats and run Water Spirit. This only works if nobody else in your squad is running a heal build due to recent regen changes. This usually shouldn't be necessary.

Druid Power

Power Druid remains a strong choice for bursty short-phased bosses like Samarog and Sloth. Due to Moment of Clarity it's very valuable for CC if combined with skills like Storm Spirit and Glyph of Equality. However, Pet CC appears to be unaffected by the trait. Keep in mind, that at least one druid should bring Nature Magic for the additional boons for your Weavers. With the focus of the team composition shifting more and more towards trying to keep a maximum amount of boons up for Weavers running Arcane, Nature Magic also becomes less of a dps-loss for the Power Druid due to the Bountiful Hunter trait. Longbow results in less DPS, but can be used in combination with the Farsighted Trait to make for a reliable knock-backer on Soulless Horror without losing too much DPS. If you struggle filling your CA, you can replace one armor piece with Zealots stats and run water spirit. This only works if nobody else in your squad is running a heal build due to recent regen changes. This usually shouldn't be necessary.

Soulbeast Condition

Nothing relevant changed for Soulbeast Condition in PvE. Your Rotation just doesn't feel smooth anymore. You also have to auto attack more than before.

Engineer ( /u/hintkei )

Core Condition

Thanks to the Alacrity and Confusion nerf, Condition Engineer got hit very hard and is now a lot worse than it's power counterpart (RIP 2015 - 2018).

Holosmith Power

Rifle Holosmith received a Bomb Auto Attack nerf and with the Chronomancer changes we have less unique conditions on bosses which also decreased Holosmith's DPS. This made the Pinpoint variant much worse and is only worth taking if you have more than 2 Condition classes in your subgroup. Fortunately Holosmith got a new trait Thermal Vision which provides a 5% modifier (when a foe is bleeding) to balance out the loss of Pinpoint for a more selfish variant. The Sword build got buffed and is now close to Rifle's DPS, but Rifle still has the edge over Sword because of safer range, CC and burst capabilities.

Thief ( /u/DerpyMoa )

Deadeye Power

Thanks to the buffs that Deadeye received in the last patch, this spec is now somewhat viable, even if it's still not outstandingly good.

Daredevil Condi

The change to Alacrity changed almost nothing dps wise due to Initiative not being affected by Alacrity. Changes to stolen abilities made Condi Daredevil a bit more supportive by being able to give almost all boons to 10 allies at Matthias and Mursaat Overseer.

We are always working on updating our class guides and at the moment especially the mesmer one. You can find all benchmarks here: here.

While "grinded" benchmarks do not represent the real state of the "raiding meta", they still reflect the maximum potential of a particular build. For this very reason we will continue to have some of our best players work on the DPS Golem to showcase the peak performance of each of the nine professions. However, we have also made an effort to find the most realistic numbers for each build present on our website, without intensive grinding. That way, the average raider will have a relatable number to aim for when practicing their rotation.

We also have a Discord server which can be found here. There you will be able to discuss and ask questions about our website, our builds and the guides. The server also has over 2000 members by now, therefore it is a great way to discuss ideas about PvE and on top of that to contact members from SC!

We choose to be ad free so you guys can enjoy the site without the annoying pop-ups, but this means we have to cover the server costs ourselves. With the amount of daily viewers we have, this gets expensive! We are thankful for every donation we get.

Have fun !

[Guide-ish] How to max MF for Divine Envelopes

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 09:22 AM PST

TL;DR: For the 1g envelope opening you want high Magic Find. The table below is guide to high Magic Find. Items in the same row don't stack in MF strength.

Heya!

As you all know the lunar new year event is like bit over half done. One of the biggest attractions through the years has been the Divine Lucky Envelopes you can buy for 1g each, 16 per day per account from Phadera at Crown Pavilion in Divinity's Reach (plus up to 16 (1+5+10) more with Tokens of the Dragon Ball Champion, each requiring 10 wins at Dragon Ball) and 3 per day for 1 Guild Commendation each from Sigurlina Jonsdottir (credit for reminding to u/regilol ). Opening them of course is a little gamble with a guaranteed vendor trash return of 88s 88c with a chance for 8g 88s 88c plus other drops and luck.
As the container is affected by Magic Find it would be wise to get it as high as possible to get better drops. Of course it's wise to open a lot at once to not waste precious or non-precious boosters. Gotta be efficient, yo. Speaking of efficiency, why not also open other containers affected by MF while you're at it, such as PoF unidentified gear and various HoT containers. (credit for the tip to u/KevinInSeattle )

The table below lists Magic Find boosters with links to their Wiki pages (Tho yes, you could just roam the wiki yourself, but this is kinda condensed). Also, MF = Magic Find. See 1,2,3... etc meanings below the table. They're extra notes.

Booster effect Effect source Effect strength Duration per source
Luck Essences of Luck 0-300% 1
Achievement rewards MF Achievement Points (AP) 0-22% (35500 AP) 1
Magic Find Boost MF Booster (can't be aquired),Enchanted Reward Boost (ERB)2,12 and others3 50% 1h
Item Booster Item4 Booster4, Heroic Booster, ERB2,12 , Candy Corn Gobbler5 50% 30/120/120/20/random min
Celebration Bonus Celebration Booster, Birthday Booster 100% 1h/24h
Black Lion Boost Black Lion Booster (can buy for 1 Black Lion Statuette) 100% 30 min
Guild Item Research Guild Magic Find6 3-10% 24h
Guild Item Research, Guild MF Banner Boost Guild MF Banner(10%) or Guild Gold and MF Banner,Guild Heroes Banner(15%) 10-15% 30 min
- Magical Enrichment7 20%
Perseverance8,9 (x5) Complete events in Silverwastes 30%-150%(-300%)10 1h (10,13: 1s)
Hero of the Wastes8 Participate in Vinewrath event in Silverwastes 50% Until relog or map change
Memories of Home Change map during Lunar New Year 15% 2h
Dog's Gift <--Lucky fireworks, Lucky Draketail is cheapest 10% 5 min, stacks duration
30% MF Bonus Laureate MF Booster (Can't be aquired any more) 30% 1h
~ Chocolate Omnomberry Cream11 40% 30 min
~ Flask of Pumpkin Oil,Sharpening Skull,Lump of Crystallized Nougat 30% 30 min

Excluding 10, AP MF, 50% MF booster and 30% Laurel booster we get a total of 890%. Now notes:
1 : to view current bonuses go to Hero Panel (H), Achievements tab (Second from bottom) and in Summary scroll down and hover over Magic Find in Account Bonuses (https://i.imgur.com/hS8G58v.jpg)
2 : when using it you got to choose Magic Find Booster for the standalone 50% or Item Booster for the bundled 50% effect from the menu. After clicking "Accept" the effect is applied.
3 : see notes of Magic Find Boost effect wiki page (Communal Boost Bonfire, Kite Fortune, Hallows Fortune Fireworks), none of them can be aquired now.
4 : as can be seen from links one is bought with laurels, other gotten elsewhere.
5 : gem store item, currently not available, uses pieces of candy corn for a chance of Item (and other) Booster effect.
6 : requires you to be in a guild which has it researched.
7 : requires an ascended amulet to be able to use it. Put infusion in enrichment slot and equip the amulet.
8 : they are map bonuses, they disappear if you relog or go to a different map so you got to endure the opening lag or do it multiple times.
9 : it stacks up to 5 times.
10 : there is a 1 second window after Lost Bandit Chest opening loading bar where the MF boost of the effect is doubled, pain in the arse to take advantage of though.
11 : requires you to have a boon like Aegis or Might for it to work. Might want to look into using Warrior (For Great Justice) or Guardian (Shield of Courage)
12 : See this comment by u/Something_Memorable on how to aquire this.
13 : there is some doubt if the 1s boost actually affects MF how it seems to affect (credit for doubt to u/rude_asura )

2000 days of GW2

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 12:13 AM PST

So, today marks exactly 2000 days since GW2 entered early access back in 2012. I remember that day, I made a human Ranger and started playing, then later went to DR so I can meet some people. I remember seeing three asura RPing in the Busted Flagon, which made me chuckle as they were all about "established protocol while traveling to other cities". Everyone was still in their starting gear mostly, and the world seemed fresh and new. Now, 2000 days later, the game went through so many changes. We defeated Zhaitan, the face of Tyria changed as Scarlet rained terror on it, we lost Lion's Arch and then rebuilt it again and again, and now we're in our second expansion. I will always remember fondly completing world exploration, stepping into WvWvW for the first time, helping quaggans, wondering what lies behind the gate to the Dominion of Wind, the Bazaar of Four Winds, the destruction of the LA fountain that first Halloween... but mostly I will always cherish meeting new friends, leading a guild, and finding a home in Tyria.

So, let's celebrate the past 2000 days of GW2! What were your fondest memories so far?

This PvP season and the overall state of PvP is turning me off from this game

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 08:33 AM PST

Imagine losing most of your placement matches, getting placed in silver, subsequently climbing to high gold 3, only to fall right back down in the space of 3-4 days.

Yeah, that's my journey this pvp season. Was it because I got lucky all the way to G3? Absolutely not. I had my fair share of wins and losses all the way there. Was it because I suddenly became a worse player? I highly doubt this, as I played my most consistent classes/specs at a high level each game. The top stats I earned each game would stand proof of that.

Anyway to get to my points

  • Ranked is becoming increasingly more toxic. People are so brazen with their afking, that they will stand at base, walking around, jumping and even flaming the team constantly as the game goes on.

  • Matchmaking really needs fine-tuning. Player skill level isn't even consistent in the mid-upper ranks. Some people don't know that you can cleave a person to death, or know how to avoid getting interrupted while stomping. They take certain risks which are just obviously stupid.

  • Point gains/losses really need attention. How is it fair for the system to always want to throw you back down when you lose a match? At least in lower ranks it shouldn't be that painfully hard to climb, though I can definitely agree to it in higher ranks.

  • Toxic players should be suspended/banned more frequently than they are now. It is FAR too prevalent right now, and needs desperate attention.

If PvP reward tracks were in some other content, I'd never touch PvP again to be honest. It feels completely horrible this season, over all the previous seasons combined.

Is GW2 non-addictive friendly?

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 11:52 AM PST

I like MMOs as they give me a fantasy fix.

I really loved WOW. But their strong focus on dungeon/ raid content just proves to be way too addicting and I just had to quit because Im in uni now.

Im looking at GW2 as I heard the content is more focused around exploration. So im not missing out if i play alone. I just want a game that is fun, easy and breezy and very jump in and jump out. I dont want games that suck me i and demand to be played.

If anyone could advise me on these 3 qns ill be very grateful:

  1. Does GW2 implement addictive, non story mechanics

  2. As a solo player playing just for the story, is the story better than single player games like witcher 3?

  3. Will i have fun if i dont go for fractals and raiding. Open to joining a guild just for a bit of social fun though.

Edit: thanks for the replies everyone! Really cool people so far :D

Bounding key settings to PC instead of account ?

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 08:07 PM PST

My friend gave me her account so I can max stuff on it, but the key controls are bounded to what she setted, making it impossible for me to play it on my PC (since we don't have the same controls at all). Is there any way to bound the key settings to my PC instead of it being bound to her account ?
