Not sure if anyone noticed or if there was patch notes but he still has the legendary background and is now 7k gold instead of 10k!

AzmoLaser + Lucio Speed Boost = Walking the Dog

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 02:42 PM PST

So I'm not sure if AzmoLaser and Lucio Speed Boost combo/cheese/whatever you want to call it have a nickname yet. I'm sure they do by now and I'm super late to the party.

But if not, "Walking the Dog" would be my suggestion.

Thoughts?

Edit: when I say "walking the dog" I am referring to when azmo casts his laser on an enemy hero, lucio uses speed to keep up, and the enemy hero is trying to escape but can't get out of laser range. Looks like azmo has a leash on his target. Sorry for confusion.

Soaking 101 Crash Course: How to Become a Team Player Sponge Bob

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 10:32 AM PST

Hey people,

So I'll speak about a touching subject for me, for this subreddit and most importantly, for all Heroes players.

I'll write as short as possible because I want every single newcomer to read this guide. Amount of new players I'm forced to play in QM are too damn high. It's alright that you don't know the hero you're playing. But soaking is one other thing. You cannot not know about soaking and its importance. Every single match I try to give new players these advices below, as friendly as I could. But it's time to hit big amount of players in one shot. So here we go.

First of all if you've never ever played a MOBA before jump to the Section 1. Otherwise continue with Section 2.

Section 1: Intensive Introduction to Soaking Basics

There are lanes in every map. Basically corridors that you can go to. Sometimes there are two, sometimes there are three. Depends on what map you're playing.
And there is team experience. Which you can get by killing enemy heroes, destroying enemy forts, killing camp monsters, spending time in game and most importantly soaking minions for experience. Soaking thingy is the main and only objective of this course.
That's it, it's not robo-goblin science.

Section 2: Soaking, the Real Stuff

What even is Soaking?

Glad you asked that question. Soaking is an activity during which Players seek to remain in a lane, near Minions, in order to acquire Experience (XP) from their deaths. According to wiki. Basically if you stay near a minion in the lane close enough, you get their death experience thus your team experience goes up.

Uhm like, how close enough?

Let's just say, it's roughly your sight range. You'll see that white experience acquired text popping above of minions. If you don't, try to get a bit closer.

That's dumb. I just want to leave my lane and fight with other lane's heroes. They're having a party!

For the love of god, no. Have at least one man in one lane. This is the golden rule. There are of course exceptions and high-level lane rotation stuff but generally, this rule applies.

Chill dude. I mean these are just minions. They're not that important?

1 minion wave = 1 kill. It's THAT important. If you leave an empty lane with enemy being there soaking, you're simply giving them free levels. It's like saying hey, here take this experience and beat all of us up, will ya?

What is team experience?

Every member in the team has the same amount of experience and thus, level. So, it's quite different from other MOBA's. Never forget this. You're not on your own. You're in a team. Your actions affects them directly.

So what if I don't stay in my lane. Give me one bad example!

Alright. Imagine this. You're playing in Sky Temple. Three lane map. You're a cool and proud hero. Let's say Genji. Everbody loves him. And you're up against Alarak. Your team went to lanes as 1-2-2, top, middle and bottom. You are the one man at top. Team experiences are equal, 3 - 3. All of a sudden you, for some reason, got bored and decided go to middle lane for ganking. Leaving your lane, your honor, your everything to Alarak. Stayed in the middle for like a minute. And even worse you didn't manage to get a kill. Now the experience you have is 4. Do you know theirs? It's freaking 5. Congrats, you did it. And this was just a start. If things go well, they'll hit 10 before you do and get their heroics. That's an amazing advantage. If you don't have great synergy or luck, the game is presumably lost.*
It's all because of you, leaving your lane, dancing and prancing in the middle lane while Alarak is still getting his sweet soaking experience.
* See u/mkaz117's fair and useful comment by clicking this.

But my lane enemy is/enemies are beating the crap out of me. What other choice do I have but leaving the lane?

There is always a better choice. In this case, you have two.

  • Ask one of your teammates to switch with you or come help you.
  • Stay in soaking range. Don't try to damage minions. Don't push the lane. Just hang around in the range, safely. That way you won't get killed or lose your soaking. Hope they leave or someone comes to your aid.

But never ever leave your lane or hate-die. Control yourself. Play safe. If you get killed and your team don't come to your lane to soak while you're dead, you end up giving them one kill and possibly two minion waves until you recover and come back to the lane. And yet worse, maybe a tower. And that's horrible.

We're staying as three men in the lane. We get triple experience right? Like when we kill a minion, we get triple amount of experience?

What? No. Of course not. Doesn't matter if there is one or four of you there. You get the same amount of experience. Otherwise it would've been mayhem.

Am I gonna stay in my lane and soak forever?

Nope. There is no general rule about this. You have to watch the game and act according to it.

  • If there's an objective and your team needs your help, you can go after you cleaning up your wave.
  • If laning phase is over (usually after reaching level 10), you can go crazy.
  • If other team is has hardcore pushers and you need to hold your keep, you can do it.
As I said, this is an open subject. And these are not definite rules. Feel the game and do what's best.

So, that's all I can think of now guys. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken or if I wrote something wrong. I'll add your suggestions to the guide as well.

Edit #1: Added u/mkaz117's comment permalink.

Until then, have a good time and see you in the Nexus!

Undocumented change: Metamorphosis, Stage Dive and X-Strike no longer remove some uncleansable debuffs.

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 12:19 PM PST

Some of the last few patches has made some of the abilities that involve momentarily removing the hero from the battleground to no longer remove damage over time effects, attack slows and hero-specific debuffs (Jaina's Chill). Armor debuffs and Cleansable debuffs can still be removed with said abilities and you are still untargetable and immune to damage during this time.

Silenced players should not be the ones who ban in UD

Basically what the title says.
Too often it happens. Those people already showed that they are easily tilted or not able to respect their fellow players. they should not be the ones put in a important position.
that is all.

Blizzard, please fix Hanzo.

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 06:30 AM PST

Since Hanzo was released he has been broken. If you right click and hold on any other hero the hero will move to the cursor, if you move the cursor while still holding the right mouse it follows. This does not work on Hanzo, it may not seem like much, but when you are used to moving with EVERY other hero like this it causes a lot of issues.

People are still genuinely terrible at Cursed Hollow

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 02:30 AM PST

Consider this: It's the oldest map in the game, it's the first map that beginners are introduced to, it's most played map in the game thanks to never once being out of the battleground rotation, and it's one of the more popular maps in any kind of competitive mode. And yet, most people are genuinely clueless about it. I want to try and help out with this.

So here's what I want people to learn today: The curse is not a nuclear bomb to your core. It's basically no different to defending Webweavers on Tomb of the Spider Queen - all three lanes will be pushed but raw man-power severely limits the damage they can do. The only difference is that rotations are quicker on Tomb.

I've posted about this in the past (probably a month ago?) and since then the same thing has happened repeatedly. Nobody will ever give up the third tribute. People seem to think that allowing the enemy to have their third tribute is just an instant, irrecoverable loss and will fight it to the death despite the 5% chance of success that they often have. Here's a bunch of situations in which you give up a tribute: and if this means you let them have the curse, then let them

  • The enemy has a talent tier advantage

  • Multiple allied (or one single game-changing) heroic cooldowns are not ready to be used

  • You would fight outnumbered

When your team have any of these three points hindering them and they decide to contest the third tribute anyway, the outcome is identical 90% of the time:

1) Your team loses the fight

2) You lose the tribute

3) You lose a fuck-ton of structures

You did not "need to try" to capture this tribute at all; why is this a common response? Your chance of success is absolutely minimal. The correct play, as it is now, and as it has always been, is to let them have it and defend your structures as 5 rather than let them have it and be unable to defend your structures on account of you all being dead (which, BTW, has given them even more xp)

Here's what you lose when you let them have the curse:

  • Probably lose a fort and fall behind by 1000 xp

  • Maybe come close to losing two forts

Now here's what you lose when you fight for the curse and lose it:

  • 3 to 5 bodies who can no longer defend the curse

  • A shit ton of xp for losing said 3 to 5 bodies

  • A guaranteed loss of all three forts

  • A potential loss of a keep wall or two

  • A shit ton more xp for losing all these structures

  • Your own boss and probably their boss too

  • Suddenly your 12 vs 13 fight has snowballed to become a 13 vs 16 fight

So, what is the enemy team going to do during the curse? Often, one of three things happen:

  • The ememy splits into all three lanes so as not to bleed xp from 1hp minions being destroyed

  • The enemy groups up in 1 or 2 lanes for a hard or semi-hard push

  • The enemy decides to take a boss

In all three of these situations, your team earns something:

  • If they split lanes then they are unlikely to take multiple forts, leaving you structurally not far away from them

  • If they group up at all then one or more lanes are being ignored, causing them to bleed xp from that lane that your team will not lose

  • If they take a boss then they're losing xp in most lanes and wasting their curse and leaving you with a simple boss defence to mount

To defend the curse, you almost always want to be defending all three lanes and hopefully earning xp while your opponent loses it. Do not mindlessly run to another lane to try and defend it - all the time you're running through the jungle you are A) susceptible to ganks, and B) wasting time on long rotations. The fort you want to defend will probably already be gone by the time you get there. So, see what the enemy is doing and where they're going, quickly organise your lanes, and stay there unless absolutely necessary.

TLDR: Letting the enemy have their third tribute, ergo a curse, is perfectly fine if your team has a disadvantage, since you're all alive to defend it. Contesting it and losing is the worst thing you can possibly do and will cause infinitely more problems than simply letting them have it and remaining alive to defend.

Given that HotS usually does a great job of catering its content to wildly different tastes of its players, not having a Valentines Day skin this year feels odd?

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 11:18 AM PST

I know a lot of people probably don't care, and frankly the Love is in the Air (Valentines Day) skins are only sort of middle of the pack for my personal tastes (Halloween are my fave), but just wanted to share the perspective of my lady friend who was looking forward to a new Vday skin all year and severely disappointed there wasn't one this year.

It's easy to mock that kind of feeling/opinion, "its just a cosmetic, who cares?", etc. But it's quite genuinely how she feels. For context I got her playing HotS just around the time 2.0 came out (so months after last years Vday skin/mount). She's enjoyed playing HotS with me more than I ever imagined she would, but she also is a massive Blizzard fangirl and something of a collector so she's spent a ton of time collecting skins/mounts and everything else. She did more grinding for lootboxes during each event than I did (shes a beast /flex). The previous years valentines day content (Love Bug Anub in 2015, Love Doctor Morales in 2016, and Love Goddess Tyrande and the Heart Mounts in 2017) became her favorites.

She hoped that Valentines would be blown out into a full event (skins, mounts, sprays, portraits) in 2.0 but I did caution her that no one knew Blizzards full schedule of events. I also told her that Vday had been a "smaller" event in past years, but I think people overstate this a tad as events in 1.0 meant 2 skins and a mount in a bundle, last years Vday was 1 skin and a mount in a bundle, not exactly a massive difference. At the very least she figured there would be a new Vday skin, which I think is reasonable given that there had been one every previous year of the games existence. It's not like she's quitting HotS, but logging on and finding only 2 retints this year genuinely bummed her out and sapped her enthusiasm to play.

The only reasons I can think of for not having one this year are business/resources related. Maybe to get out enough Lunar skins they had to skip a Vday skin this year? Or, if it's not a full event with limited time lootboxes, does it make sense to make one new Vday skin? Or, in 2.0 so far only "launch skins" have been sold as bundles directly for "gems only", so even if they did make a 2018 Vday bundle, how would they sell it? Honestly even if it created some confusion, I think any solution (selling it as gem only, or simply adding one more Vday skin to the "normal" lootbox system) would have been preferable. I'd have loved to hear why they didn't make a skin this year, but I don't expect to.

Anyways, sorry this post is way too long, I just wanted to share this perspective as I've basically seen no discussion of this. HotS generally does a GREAT job of giving people of hugely varied tastes what they want. I love "lore" skins (alternate armor sets from old games, cross game skins, memey skins like Dreadlord Jaina) and Halloween skins. I don't care at all about the Lunar skins but I'm really glad they exist for people who love them and hope you keep getting more and more awesome Lunar stuff each year!

The point being, as much as you enjoy your favorite type of skins/content, someone else probably enjoys the Valentines skins/content as much as you love your favorites. Even if you don't care at all about the Vday skins, wouldn't it be nice if others continued to get the types of content they enjoy as well? Anyone else disappointed by this years omission?

Tyrande trait bugged, sets to 25% instead of lowering to 25%

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 09:20 AM PST

Basically title. Played a few games to test this out yesterday, Garrosh against Tyrande it's the easiest to replicate with. Tyrande's mark does not lower your armor by 25%, it sets it to -25%, regardless of how much armor you currently have. This allows her to essentially have a -100 armor debuff, taking +75 armor down to -25 on a point and click ability.
