/r/Civ Free Talk Friday - February 16, 2018

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 02:07 AM PST

Greetings r/Civ.

Hello and welcome to Free Talk Friday, a megathread where everyone can rant, vent, or otherwise express themselves to their heart's content. This is also a place where you can organize your thoughts, or even a party for multiplayer games if you so wish to.

Despite the mostly free of expression, however, we would like to ask you to still follow the rules, mainly:

  • Be polite as much as possible. Don't be rude or vulgar to anyone.
  • Keep your comments civil and as respectful as you can. If you cannot say anything good, please hide and ignore the comment.
  • Memes are allowed in the thread, but Politics and other controversial topics are not permitted to prevent offending certain people.

For other Weekly/Monthly threads, you can now view them here.

Vote for the next Civ of the Week. Civ of the Week will resume in March.

Thanks to Tamar's leader ability, Georgia's faith-per-turn graph makes them look both incredibly pious and like they're occasionally suffering a severe crisis of doubt.

Civ 6 Spies are so much fun.

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 02:35 PM PST

So I was playing a multiplayer match with friends at a lan party and we had an actual cold war scenario which was so much FUN! We had no actual cobflict between the 2 coalitions but there was constant skirmishing and loyalty breaking as everyone was scared to get hit by atomic bombs. The spy warfare with 8 people gets clutch and I manipulated friend and foe with my french tricks. I justed wanted to share my enthusiasm as it is an clear improvement over civ5's lackluster spies.

Do you guys have any experiences to share?

Not enough late game wonders?

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 08:22 AM PST

Am I the only one who thinks there are way too few late game wonders? We've certainly got some real ones worth adding. Burj Khalifa, Tokyo Tower, Berlin Wall for the Autocrats.

PSA: If you get Stonehenge after getting a great prophet, you get a free apostle.

Yeah, I know, you don't really go for it if you already have a religion, but still. This is pretty much only worthwhile on lower difficulties when you have nothing to spend production on, but hey, at least, the devs thought about it.

Why can't we propose emergencies? And what determines its occurance?

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 12:12 PM PST

I had a game where Poundmaker had a massive science lead over me and other AI and was working on space projects, so I started a war with him and tried to get his spaceport cities (sabotaging them beforehand). Unfortunetaly I had bad relations with every civ and couldn't propose a Joint war so I was fighting alone to keep us all ingame. And I was ONE turn to late, my spy was 1 turn away from sabotaging the final spaceport and we lost.

So I think this could be avoided with emergency called by me. Obviously it can be abused so some restrictions like 1 emergency per X turn is allowed or something of the kind. But I think this random nature of emergencies takes some magic from it.

Your favourite City Naming schemes?

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 10:57 AM PST

I love making my city names just insults to other players during multiplayer matches, it eventually dissolved into a childish war of; accept embassy ... "hey fuck you, Spain IS NOT gay"
