Back in my day, this was the entire map of Azeroth!

I just recently made a healer for the first time and it seems like 90% of healing is meter cheesing and I get told I'm bad if I don't do it too, what is going on?

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 10:19 AM PST

I decided to try Mistweaver on my monk and I really liked it so I started pouring AP into my weapon and set my loot over and got two decent legendaries. I then started doing mythics and had no problems keeping people alive.

LFR is a joke of course so by linking the achievements I've earned in other specs I got myself invited to some PUG normals and Heroics. I got kicked after the first boss because "your healing sucked". I found another one and got told my healing sucked there too (but they didn't kick me right away) so I started just cheesing meters and suddenly everyone loves me.

Using cooldowns when they weren't needed just to jump up the meter, using expensive spells to get more healing out when I could have been mana conserving without risk, etc.

Here is an easy and true example: Garothi Worldbreaker. He does Eradication which hits the entire raid but does reduced damage the further you are. Everyone drops to ~75% HP. There is no real follow up damage coming here. The tanks have HoTs and are already full up. I watch other healers pop cooldowns for this, to me this seems wrong. Why the fuck is that other Monk using revival here? There is no call for it. HoTs are rolling, a few Vivifys and some effuse is all that is needed here. Using Revival is mana efficient sure, but it takes away a really good emergency cooldown on a situation that is very definitely not an emergency.

So I don't use it. I just top people up, Chi Burst, thunder focus tea for the cone heal plus two free vivifys, throw out an enveloping mist off the vivify proc, everything is fine and I used very little mana and no cooldowns. Fight ends I get bitched at for not doing enough healing but when you check out the other healers they're using fucking tranquility and revival among their top abilities and its like "At no point in that fight did we need to use a cooldown, that's dumb." but when I say this everyone tells me I'm wrong.

"Why would you save it? Use it and it will be back up before the next boss" well yeah it will but why would I use it? What if something DOES go wrong and you NEED a cooldown and instead you used it to cheese the parse? What if the fight goes long and you need the mana you've been wasting spamming essence font every time it's up? It's not about saving the cooldown it's about having the cooldown if something actually goes wrong.

Revival and similar cooldowns can save one person reliably or in some cases many people. You can absolutely save a wipe with something like Revival or Tranquility, yeah ok we probably aren't going to need it for Heroic Garothi but just throwing it out because you can doesn't make you a good healer, right?

So... Who is right? Should I just be burning abilities to be on the top? Is that what matters? "I did more healing therefore I contributed more to our success." that sort of makes sense. If I'm doing 500k HPS and he's doing 700k then he did do more healing than I did maybe I'm looking at this wrong then.

I do notice that the people at the top of the meters are often also at the top of the overhealing meter by huge margins too but no one seems to think thats a problem.

Possible hint at 7.3.5 release date that was almost unnoticed

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 04:57 AM PST

On the Broken Shore there are Xorothian Cultists (http://www.wowhead.com/npc=119053/xorothian-cultist) who are Fel Channeling (http://www.wowhead.com/spell=215282/fel-channeling). This cast will be finished exactly when US servers usually finish maintenance on January 16th.

Those NPC did that once already and finished exactly on the release of Antorus.

So it is reasonable to think that 7.3.5 will be relased on January 16th/17th depending on region.

What's your class not commonly known pro-life tips?

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 05:43 AM PST

As a DH havoc main, I noticed that the best way to get back from a knockback effect (like Vari's) is not to use fel rush mid air, but instead a simple glide then cancel will immediately stop the momentum and brings you back up where you were from cleanly where fel rush is not as precise which can launch you a little bit further than intended.

Another tip for old raid farming, since everything dies quickly anyways, equip every piece of gear on you that have mastery on it. With that and sephuz, I get a neat 50% always on movement speed boost which makes clearing old content more faster and convenient.

So what's your class/spec pro life tips and other niche tricks that not everybody knows about?
