Just got to level 100 on the PTR's new levelling system.

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 02:24 AM PST

This is to you Blizz, you can fully shape 7.3.5's levelling. It is still very flawed.

I was very excited for a levelling revamp but... here are my thoughts.

  • i did not use heirlooms, just gear from quests
  • i did not do dungeons

Pros:

  • You get to experience a zone and its quests in it's entirety. (I loved darkshire, howling fjord, jade forest and more. Its like reading a short story novel in video game form!)

  • You have much more options based on your personal preference (Hate Cata? Go to panda, hate westfall? Go to Dun Morough)

Cons:

  • Unnecessary time investment. (the levelling in 7.3.5 is NOT hard. It is NOT challenging. It is TIME INVESTING It is more so boring if you're not in it for the story in the zones. One way Blizz could fix this is by making mobs deal more damage Increase damage dealt by all mobs by at least 30-50%. Why 30% or 50%? I levelled a rogue, I used to pull a bunch of mobs (5-10 and even more.) I would be able to survive without using defensives or healing potions nor cooldowns, just spamming backstab and evis. The mobs barely do damage, even to a leather wearing class. THERE IS NO CHALLENGE, be prepared for a time sink. (If blizz doesnt increase mob damage, there is no challenge.)

  • It is not a gameplay improvement whatsoever. Again, you barely take any damage. You don't need to worry about how many mobs you pull. It is a constant button mashing journey.

And thats it.

Its a good change, its a BETTER change. But it can be even better if it was a challenge rather than a slow brain-dead grind. All blizz needs to do is increase the damage all mobs deal. Even a 30% damage boost to mobs would feel a bit more challenging.

Thank you for reading it, I wish i could make a simple TL; DR but here

TL;DR - good story idea, poorly made, drawn-out, no challenge

Also feel free to ask me anything before you folks head into levelling!

Edit: i really didnt except this to reach front page.

The top comment here brings up a good point. But in a developer's PoV, it will take too much time and resource to pinpoint every mob and give them special abilities. It will cost us content no doubt. Also, if these abilities don't threaten a player or deal damage, why add them if you can just soak it up and move forward? Sure it challenges ability utility but if its not threatening, why avoid it or interrupt it?

I don't think my late father enjoyed MoP Dailies all too much.

Heart of Azeroth Highest level should be account wide to be Alt friendly

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 02:46 PM PST

Heart of Azeroth Highest level should be account wide to be Alt friendly.

I'm not saying gathering should be account wide, Just that the highest level of it applies. Its not a perfect system but hear the idea out.

If you were to switch mains you would need to gather up enough power to Exceed what your previous main has in order to increase its power, but in the meantime you still gain the benefit of your mains higher power level. This means you can't "Double Dip" to farm, but allows you to play alts without feeling the need to farm on your alts.

An alternative would be that its only a % of your mains power level. An example would be 90% of its power.

Keep in mind from what we've heard that part of the Heart of Azeroth is linked to gear, and you would still need to get that gear to make it truly useful.

My lvl 10 Pandaren Warrior somehow ended up with Lava Eruption, an npc skill from lvl 87 Flame Wardens...

The real problem with the current levelling system is how much classes have been pruned.

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 04:05 AM PST

Evey single class is balanced almost completely around their artifact and the passives you gain from it. While levelling you gain spells very slowly, most of them basic rotation spells. Even when you reach WoD content your class still plays like shit. This was not the case back when classes still had more spells and utility, like in MoP.

I do not think that making levelling harder or longer will make the experience any better. You will have no tools or utility to deal with situations, as these are all in legendaries and artifact weapons. Players will just end up having to use their three spells more often to kill something, which will only lead to frustration, especially on classes without any healing.

Now let's guess what the most important feature of BfA will be....the login screen

I personally think it will be the wasteland of dead bodies outside of the Ruins of Lorderon, or hippie land burning

Demon Hunters can use Spectral Sight to see the Creeping Doom wall during the Cordana fight in Vault of the Wardens

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 01:36 PM PST

So I just learned this yesterday... apparently Demon Hunter's Spectral Sight allows them to see the creeping doom wall. I recently returned from a 9 month hiatus and I'm thinking back to all the times I was in a 10+ VotW with my guild on the struggle bus during the final fight and how much this would've helped had I known.

Sorry if a lot of people already know about this, but I figured I'd make a post in case I could help out any poor souls like me.
