Do you think that a gaming cryptocurrency such as this one (Tap Project) has a place to thrive in the cryptocurrency and gaming world?

I just came across this today: The Tap Project

What is the Tap Project?

The Tap Project's primary initiative consists of developing a digital currency, along with partnering with a network of developers to allow a smooth, elegant and robust system that will allow the Tap Coin the ability to traverse multiple games and platforms. Allowing Tap Coins to be transferred between games.

...and from their white paper

The Tap Project's primary initiative consists of creating a utility token, along with partnering with a network of developers to allow a smooth, elegant and robust system that will allow the Tap Coin the ability to traverse multiple games and platforms. This would allow in-game digital currency to be exchanged into Tap Coins and other cryptocurrency or fait currency if the gamer so chose.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, it's like bitcoin, but specifically marketed and designed for the gaming world. Its use case would be something like if I had a certain about of gold in Hearthstone for example, and coins in Path of Exile, and platinum in Warframe... I could transfer all of those currencies out of the respective games, convert them into Tap Coin, and then use the resulting total amount of Tap Coin to purchase in-game stuff from another totally different game, or maybe even buy new games from Steam or something.

I could definitely see gamers wanting that. That would certainly be super useful for a lot of reasons... but I have no idea why on earth game developers and publishers would want to support it. It sounds as though that kind of implementation would prevent them from earning more... or would it? It sounds like the same thing as being able to cash out your in-game currency into dollars and buying other stuff from other games using those dollars.

Now, I'm big on cryptocurrency. I'm fascinated by the tech and have investments in some coins. But I can't quite see how this can work if I'm being totally honest.

Thoughts?

Twitch Communities & Gender Study

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 12:07 PM PST

Aloha,

I am a student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and I am conducting research on gender relations and harassment in Twitch communities, with the aim of understanding the experience of streamers and viewers of varying gender identities.

Research questions that prompted this study: Do Twitch communities face harassment based on gender identity or sexual orientation? Do Twitch communities create a more safe and accepting space than other gaming communities?

If you would like to participate, here is the link to the survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSefj2G_D6R0Z9P1S-Qk45w0roDyHa5XEMIP8f5HeNQG3NRw3g/viewform?usp=sf_link Thank you!
