  • Class: Guardian

  • Passive:

    • "Spirit of Death"
    • Any time an Enemy God within 40 of Cerberus is healed, that healing is Cerberus receives 40% of the heal, and the Enemy's heal is reduced by 20%.
  • First Ability:

    • "Paralyzing Spit"
    • Cerberus's snake tail spits venom that passes through and damages Enemies. If Cerberus's dog heads are Alert, they then also spit venom when the ability is fired. Each head is alerted upon hitting an Enemy with a Basic Attack, and all are alerted after Ghastly Breath. Each projectile that hits the same target deals 20% less damage, but hitting an Enemy with all 4 Stuns them.

Enemies in the center of his breath are also Slowed up to three times. This attack immediately puts all three of Cerberus's heads on Alert for Paralyzing Spit.
  • Third Ability:

    • "Soul Expulsion"

Learning all the gods in Smite, the easy way: A short guide

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 12:54 PM PST

Hi there, /r/Smite, today, I'm posting another guide.

A quick note: Most of this is based off of personal experience, but should be relevant to most people. It also covers playing gods in their usual standard (or meta) positions, and won't help you with stuff like Ymir jungle, or Serqet support. All of this information, and info from other guides, is available in my Discord channel, called Conquering Conquest, a channel for experienced and new players alike, to come together and teach each other how to play Conquest, as well as tutorial inhouses to teach comms/coordination once there are enough active players. We have close to 70 members currently, if you want in, send me a message here on reddit. If you have any constructive criticism, post it in the comments.

If you'd like to read my guide on playing warriors in the jungle, you can find it here

Without further ado, the guide:

THE GENERAL IDEA

Learning a particular god in Smite does not require mastery 1-10, nor does it require any significant amount of time watching tutorials and guides, heck, it barely requires a pop into jungle practice. It only requires that you know what archetype that God comes from. When Erlang Shen came out, I immediately knew how to play him, because I play a lot of Bellona, Osiris and Ravana, and I associated him with them. I didn't need to learn him, and from match 1 with him I was pretty much okay with playing him. Granted the gods I mentioned have kits which vary quite a bit, the idea behind them all is the same: Get into your opponents face, mitigate everything they throw at you, beat them up if you're in lane, or keep their attention on you if you're in a fight, and clean up.

I don't believe you need to have even played a god to know the basics on how to play them, if you know their archetype. For example, with *Cerberus** being released today, I realized that he plays a lot like Xing Tian. They both have a single CC ability in their standard 3 (Knockup/Root vs Stun), both have some ticking ability with a debuff (Att Speed slow vs normal slow), both have a leap, and both have a huge teamfight ult.*

With this in mind, I can recommend 2-3 gods in each class which will teach you the basics of an archetype, which I'll list here. Keep in mind that I said basics. You'll be able to pick the gods in those archetypes and do okay with them, but you'll need at least a few games in order to do well

THE LIST

Warriors:

  • Bellona - learn her, and you'll learn to stick to someone with basic attacks, dive backlines, and apply constant pressure. Knowing this will let you play Osiris, Ravana and Erlang more effectively.

  • Chaac - learn him, and you'll learn to slowly chip away at an opponent's health, and finish them off with big bursts of cooldowns. He'll also teach you mana preservation. This will help you play Odin, Cu Chullain, Sun Wukong, Vamana and most of the other ability-based warriors.

  • Tyr/Nike - learn them to know how to play for lategame teamfights, and play lane without good clear. These aren't as burst orientated as others, and focus on mainly setting up for their team. Guan Yu and Amaterasu become a lot easier when you know this.

Hunters:

  • Neith - Learn the pressure that you have early games, as the "caster" type hunters who make great use of abilities. Knowing Neith's playstyle lets you play other ability based hunters like Hou Yi, Anhur, Ullr, AMC and so on.

  • Rama/Artemis - Learn how to play for lategame on hunters that mostly rely on their basic attacks for damage. Also teaches you to manage your steroids. Lets you play Xbalanque, Jing Wei, and the rest of the mostly-aa focused hunters

Assassins:

  • Kali - teaches you how to play for lategame on a melee god, how to pick targets (possible tanks, for shredding), and how to stick to them with basics while being squishy. Also teaches you how to play with low pressure early, where you can only set up for your team. Bakasura, Mercury and Nemesis become much easier to get into if you know this playstyle

  • Ratatoskr - teaches you the quick bursty style of ability based assassins, with huge-impact ultimates. Teaches you how to get in quickly and out. Also provides you with the opportunity to learn to play a bruisery initiator. Knowing this will let you play Thor, Thanatos, Camazotz, Hun Batz, Bastet and the other ability-focused assassins better

  • Daji mainly blows up a single target before they realise they're dead, and then hopes to get out. Loki and Serqet fall under this playstyle.

Mages:

  • Hades - teaches you how to play as a slightly tanky mage, that needs to be in the middle of the fight to have an impact. Also teaches the importance of combo-ing your kit, and using ability orders wisely. Zhong Kui becomes easier when you know this style.

  • Agni - teaches you how to impact a fight from medium to long distance, with good self setup and combos, while also being mobile. Thoth, Scylla, Raijin and other mages with dashes/leaps fall under here

  • Zeus - teaches you positioning, and how to stay just close enough to a fight to have an impact, but far enough to be safe. Also shows the advantage that immobile mages have, in the form of tons of damage. Poseidon, Anubis, Ra, and most other immobile mages fall under this.

  • Sol, Chronos, Freya, Morrigan and Ao Kuang don't fit these types, but instead fit other classes' archetypes. Sol falls under Neith's playstyle. Chronos and Freya under Rama, and Ao Kuang is a mix between Da Ji and Kali. Morrigan can be played like other burst mages, AND like Ao Kuang's assassin-style, but you also need to know all the other archetypes in order to maximise your options in the ult.

Guardians:

  • Geb - teaches you to be a backline support, peeling enemies off of your teammates and providing buffs or other assists. In other words: being a sacrificial team player. Also teaches counter-initiation. Similar playstyle to Khepri, Sylvanus, Terra and all other backline supports

  • Bacchus - teaches aggression in the support role, how to properly initiate, and target focus to have the most impact in teamfights. Helps play Ares, Sobek, Cabrakan, Artio, and any other aggressive guardian.

  • Guardians in solo lane will follow the warrior archetypes. Ymir, Artio and Cabrakan play similarly to Chaac, because it's possible to win lane with them and bully, while Sobek, Xing, and Terra play more like Tyr/Nike, because they aren't particularly good in lane, but have huge impact in lategame fights. Cerberus is in-between the two, depending on the matchup.

EXTRA INFORMATION

Before I end the guide, something I'd like to add is that, if you want to learn every god in the game, learning core gameplay mechanics is more important than learning the individual gods. For mages, positioning and timing is crucial. For hunters, it's positioning and boxing. For warriors, it's harassing backlines, boxing in lane, and sometimes peeling. For Guardians, it's peeling and initiating. For assassins, it's bursting, auto cancelling, escaping, initiating and sometimes peeling too. Other skills that aren't for any particular role/class include knowing when you're hitting your powerspike and taking advantage of it, managing the timers of enemy ults/relics so you know when to force a fight, and knowing when you yourself, as well as others are at their weakest stage of the game. These individual skills are more useful to learning all the gods at once, instead of one specific god at a time

Edit: A whole bunch of formatting

Now that the T5 skin for Ullr is no longer obtainable, shall we nerf him back to a balanced state?

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 07:19 AM PST

Its obvious that they left Ullr in such an absurd state because of his T5 skin, so people would get hyped for it and would buy it and use it a lot. Well, now people can no longer get it, so Ullr can stop being so OP, amirite?

Dimi should permanently be an analyst/caster

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 07:27 AM PST

Just finished watching SWC and I have to say that Dimi was amazing every time he was on the analyst desk. He offered exceptional game knowledge and insight, spoke well, looked sharp, if I were Hi-Rez I would highly consider offering him a job as either an analyst, or potentially a caster, due to how much promise he showed from only his first appearance.

Smite as a F2P

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 02:43 PM PST

I've never bought gems in Smite, mainly because i can't afford to buy any game currency or games ( i'd rather buy other things, you know, irl ), but Hi-Rez is one of the most generous companies i've ever seen, and after 4 years of playing Smite, i've decided to see how generous a company can be.

After some quick maths: - 26 400 gems skins - 10 600 gems skins - 16 T2 skins - 34 Voice Packs - 44 Exclusive skins and 17 Limited Skins - And too many recolours / mastery skins to count

Just in T2 VP 400 and 600 skins, that's 272 euros or 325 dollars + 44 Exclusives/Limited skins.

That's just insane. Seeing these numbers actually makes me love Hi-Rez and Smite even more.

As a F2P player, thanks Hi-Rez :D

Add me to the list of idiots, I missed T5 Ullr by one day and one quest

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 06:25 AM PST

I thought I had one more day. One last quest. Bought a bunch of stuff, only needed 500 more points. Down the drain. Someone whisper sweet nothings in my ear.

Also, if I am dumb and didn't miss it, please inform me asap, because I am the dumb

Edit: at your suggestions, I threw an email their way

Edit Jr.: I'll keep you all in the know if anything does go down. If anyone wants to send me stick figures/ms paint drawings of what I would look like to use it, I'll take those too.

To be clear, I didn't come here to get the skin, just share the story, so let's not flame Hi-Rez if they don't give away skin codes, they owe me nothing here

Friendly advice about bubble-licious chest for my whale bros

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 09:29 AM PST

Especially if you are a whale and have the chest maxed out as it was added, the chest is 58/60 and one of the items that was added is Cerberus Voice pack, which is 200 gems when the chest is 300. You are better off buying VP alone if you want the Sol Skin or open an extra Oddyssey Chest like I did, if you have any.

SMITE Patch 4.25 Recap

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 03:40 AM PST

The buff Terra needs

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 02:34 AM PST

The increase in the slow seems a step in a decent direction. But we all know what made her so powerful. It was her root! I've suggested this before and have seen others make the same point:

Her monolith shatter should have an inner ring that roots while the outer part of the aoe just slows.

If Artio can have an aoe slow, an aoe stun, an aoe root, and an aoe cripple, I think our girl Terra should have a small aoe root.

They made Ragnarok cheaper!`

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 12:03 PM PST

It was 900, now it is 750! To a total of 2250 gems. For 750 you get 2 skins, a loading frame, recall, and an awesome chest. I think that is SUPER worth. EDIT: The 3 quests you get also reward you! This is actually an AMAZING event!

Idea: Changing The Morrigan loading card during loading screen

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 07:35 PM PST

She should appear as an enemies card or someone on your teams card during the loading screen, then when it's done loading, it will change into The Morrigan.

30 Min Deserter Penalty

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 07:07 PM PST

So I log on to play tonight with a friend in a party (Xbox). I receive the found match screen, keep clicking accept which does nothing. My buddy sees me in the god selection screen; however, I'm still back at the found match screen. I restart because nothing is changing to get a 30 min penalty due to a glitch...

Beyond this being fixed, can the frieken training work during this? When I click select, the pop up obnoxiously reminds me of my penalty but then removes me ability to accept a training! Guess my limited time to actually play this game tonight will be spent in an item builder and posting this...

Rant over.

I just met a dev on arena!

http://smite.guru/match/pc/383190383

Just met a dev on arena who was testing something...Idk how did I managed to log in while servers were closed for login. He was wondering about this as well.

I was searching for it for almost 30 mins, then I got a match ready, accepted it but there were only 2 players in lobby: me and HiRezRev.

For some reason imgur compressed all screenshots but here they are Lobby screenshot Loading screenshot

Then, after match started, he maxed himself up to lvl 20, spawned some Odins and was spamming his ults with no CD's and skipping the animations Screenshot

After my questions he told me that the servers were closed for players and he was testing something before patch gets released

shoutouts to HiRezRev :D

A thing i noticed on Cerberus's recolor card is that it apparently shows Charon ferrying a soul through Styx in front of Cerberus.

Please let the next Hindu God have an Indian accent!

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 06:21 AM PST

all Celtic Gods have Celtic accents and most Japanese gods have Japanese accents, there is at least one god of each Pantheon with an interesting accent Sol, Athena, chaac, hun batz, AMC, Zhong, Skadi..etc (no Egyptians with Egyptian accents though...unless Mummy Izanami counts) Surprised there is no Indian accents in the game though O___O I can imagine Ravana or Ganesha with an Indian accent honestly. (they're fine without it but it's fun to imagine it) Also.....give Erlang a cool skin VP at least....can't handle his voice.
