Posted: 10 Jan 2018 09:59 AM PST Stealing the concept from Splatfests from Splatoon. But imagine queueing up with fans of the same team, you all will automatically wear the skins from that team. You face enemies all wearing the skins from a rival team. Make it really feel like it's team vs team. Winning in this mode earns your team points. The points per team are all added up and that cumulative amount is used to rank the teams. Now imagine if it was integrated in a way like, if a pro from that team picks a hero (let's say Sombra) that if you also pick Sombra within 24 hrs of that pro match, you earn bonus points for your team. So playing the exact comp the pro team played earns you the most points. And having two identical comps as the pros played would be hype, being able to recreate the fight you just watched. Or maybe a victory bonus, for 24 hrs after the pro team wins, that team earns bonus points for every match won in the arcade. So fans who just got off the hype of the pro match can continue the hype in-game. Maybe at the end of the season, you could have a top 100 leaderboard for individual point contributors for each team. So DallasFuelFan89 could showoff their 2,000,000 points earned for Dallas Fuel or something. I think it'd be cool if players could do more than just cheering on their team. They could put on the uniform and actually help their team by earning them points. [link] [comments]
I had no idea what these skins would add to the game. Posted: 10 Jan 2018 03:59 AM PST Or what they would bring out in me. I'm a Boston Uprising fan. After much deliberation I pick up the Orisa skin and head into quick play to check it out. Directly to skirmish. Ok. Usually I just sit there but hey this is the perfect time to show off my BU Orisa skin plus my brand new puppy emote from Christmas. So I'm sitting out in the open looking fly in Boston colors, playing with my puppy. That's when I see her. The other Orisa. She rounds the corner. She looks at me, and immediately opens fire. Now this is common in skirmish to just immediately start fighting someone when you see them, but I always take the passive approach and they see I'm passive and we become friends and do emotes and spray sprays at each other and squat up and down and giggle till the match starts. Not this time. While I played with my puppy I watched as the enemy Orisa threw her shield down and continued to pummel my blue and yellow body. As my health went lower and lower my hope for a nonviolent friendship dwindled just the same. I knew I wasn't about to make a friend. I didn't know I was about to make an enemy. I was at the last bit of health. It was ok, I would die and just wait in spawn till the match started. No big deal. Then it happened. Just moments before my death... Before the enemy Orisa in a navy blue looking skin would end my life... She stopped. And opened fire on my puppy. My body was numb. By the time I grabbed my controller (I'm on console... ok) it was too late. I hit a button, any button to jump out of the emote, but the moment I began to jump out of the emote, Enemy Orisa fired upon me and killed me. It was like a candle was lit inside me. Except the flame was a flamethrower and the Wick was John. You killed my dog you Efing son of a... The death replay came up. It wasn't just some navy blue looking skin she was wearing. It was the New York Excelsior skin. Game Found. Route 66. Attack. My hands conformed to the controller like they were made for it. There was only one purpose for my life now and it was to absolutely destroy that pure evil NYXL Orisa. I was going to straight demoralize her. If she still was on the other side. I brought new meaning to the term "insta-lock" when the character screen became available. "Why would anyone use an aimbot just for the character screen?" they were probably saying at Blizzard HQ. No aimbot for insta-lock. Just pure focused rage with the intent of revenge. I almost always pick rein on attack Route 66. But not today. Gates open. I approach the toppled train in front of me. I don't care what enemy hero is hiding in the open train car. I just need a glimpse. A view of that bridge to see if underneath lies the one who killed my dog. There she stood. Behind her shield. A navy blue Orisa. THE navy blue Orisa. The NYXL trash that murdered me and my dog. My lips curled. My pupils dilated. The world around me disappeared. No longer was I a gold tier tank trying to climb to platinum... no... I was a member of the Boston Uprising itself. I was Orisa donning the blue and yellow flag attacking against the defending New York Excelsior Orisa who did not yet know how defenseless she truly was. I wish she could've seen my gold medals at the end of the match, including gold elims, but my blue card for "Damage Blocked" would have to suffice. No card existed for her. And only one existed for her team. On the last push, the last time I killed her before we brutally pushed the payload to the final location, I looked down at her lifeless body and fired. This time activating the voice line I had bound to L3. "Efi will not be happy" But I am. Let the games begin. Edit: Gooooood I just got off work and checked this. Holy crap. Can't wait to show my wife why I was up at 1:30am typing on my phone and why she shouldn't be mad at me for being tired today because of how many internet points it got me. I'll tell her internet points are real. She'll love it. Oh, and this is bothering me so I have to mention it... The full line is "Efi will not be happy about this". Apparently my tired brain forgot to put the last half and I didn't proofread before posting when I got up this morning. Edit 2: OH thank you for the gold, stranger! Also thanks for all the nice comments! Just a fun situation I decided to type up after the adrenaline faded. And for the few comments asking if this is some HailCorporate stunt by blizzard yes please I would love to be paid for this hail blizzard hail OWL what else do I need to do to make this happen? I must admit Overwatch League is very professionally done! Kudos to Blizzard! Posted: 10 Jan 2018 04:20 PM PST All the aspects so far of the Overwatch League are IMPRESSIVE. The ingame default menu option that shows upcomming games and links to live games. The live arena is beautiful. The fact that each teams have proper colors. The up-top view where you see player icons on a sort of mini map. Everything is exceptional! [link] [comments]
5 Quick Bits of Advice for New Overwatch League Viewers Posted: 10 Jan 2018 09:17 AM PST So you just bought that awesome esports skin from the Overwatch League tab of Overwatch, and now you're curious about the team you've indirectly chosen to support. You've already read the Megathread FAQ, but you're worried about one thing: watching the actual games has always been confusing to you. You have never followed the esports scene of Overwatch in the past, and keeping track of what all is going on feels like a monumental task. But the skin you got is so cool...and you're still curious. Hey guys and gals, CaptainPlanet here on Overwatch League's opening day with a quick guide to help make viewing the matches more enjoyable, especially for all of our newly-minted esports fans.* What follows are the things I look for in an Overwatch esports match, as well as things that might seem confusing at first but are actually quite common in pro play. 1. Watch the Ult metersIf you've never watched an Overwatch match before, you may not think to track the players' ultimates. Even if you only play in the arcade, you will know that ultimates in Overwatch are like siege weapons: when they're used correctly, they can break through the strongest of defenses. Knowing which team has what ultimates (or is about to get them) is a great way to stay on top of what teams are doing and why. 2. "Wasting" ultimates is sometimes the correct playIn pro play, support ultimates are often the difference makers in massive teamfights. Both teams are constantly trying to out-think each other, trying to bait each other. The defense wants to counter offensive ultimates with their defensive ones. The offense tries to either catch the defense without their support ultimates, or to bait out a defensive ultimate with minimal effort, before disengaging. A common play that will likely occur during this week's matches goes like this:
Now the attacking team is free to use the rest of their offensive ultimates without fear of a Transcendence counter. "Wasting" Dragonblade put the Genji's team ahead 3. Dying can be proactiveMany deaths in overwatch matches are calculated, rather than unplanned visits to the respawn room. This goes even further than jumping off the map to deny the opposing team ultimate charge in a lost fight. Consider the following control map scenario where Team A won the first teamfight and currently holds the point, and has six ultimates charged. Team B lost the first fight, and only has three ultimates charged. How will they take the point? Team B will probably elect to perform what is called a "dry push" where they commit all of their positioning and heroes to attempting to take the point -- but without using any of their ultimates. The goal here is two-fold: they want to put enough pressure on Team A to make them use their six ultimates, but they also want to charge their remaining three ultimates. It's a win-win proposition...usually. Team B will either take the point, or die but force Team A to use their ultimates, putting Team B at an advantage for the subsequent push. The only downside is if Team A both holds the point and doesn't use any of their ultimates to do so. 4. Some heroes are barely going to see play, and that's okThe pros aren't just playing on a different patch than everyone else (because dropping a patch without giving them ample time to practice it would be unfair), they're playing almost an entirely different game than everyone else. The pace and the teamwork at their level of play is unlike anything anyone on ladder -- even GMs -- can expect to see on a regular basis. Therefore, heroes that work very well in a 1v1 scenario may find themselves lackluster when every pro has one or more teammates ready to back them up in a split second. This goes both ways. Some heroes played at the pro level will only work at that level of play, because the pros have the mechanical skill and the team support to make them shine. Some heroes, like McCree and Widowmaker, will shine even brighter because of technical upgrades that the pros enjoy on their competition LAN client. In short, pros don't hate the heroes they don't play, they have simply optimized the weaker ones out of their lineups (you can only play 6 heroes at a time, after all!) 5. If you're still confused by the speed of the broadcast, keep your eyes peeled for post-match VOD reviews and written contentI'll admit it, it has taken me two years of writing about Overwatch to be able to see things at remotely the pace the pros and the casting desk does. My primary enjoyment of the nitty-gritty game details actually comes after the matches end, when I watch and re-watch the VODs on my own time to try to figure out how exactly that one Doomfist player ended up with a quad kill. Now that Overwatch League is here, there will be mountains upon mountains of analytical content to go through -- from both official sources and from our talented community analysts. If you're a new viewer and feel overwhelmed by what you're watching, don't hesitate to bug me or the talent with questions, or simply make a thread on the competitive overwatch subreddit, where I'm sure many will be happy to welcome and mentor fresh esports fans. BONUS NUMBER 6/u/TheEroticToaster pointed out below in the comments that watching the Kill Feed will be very important to new viewers as well and I cannot agree more. Alongside ult meters, it helps the viewer get an idea which team is doing well in the current moment. Thanks Toaster!
Until next time,

Backfill should get the xp that the person who left would have gotten Posted: 10 Jan 2018 07:37 AM PST Getting 500 xp after waiting minutes just to join a losing game or a game that just lost is not a good consolation. If the person who left didn't get that xp it should go the the person who is backfilling. [link] [comments]

Your account must be in good standing to receive 100 free OWL tokens. Posted: 10 Jan 2018 03:10 AM PST If you don't know already, you can get 100 free Overwatch League tokens if you sign up for news with your battle.net email adress More info here - https://overwatchleague.com/en-us/promos/inaugural-team-skins-tokens What really got my attention is this under "FULL OFFER DETAILS" " Your Battle.net and associated Overwatch accounts must be in good standing " That pretty much means if you have multiple bans or silences you won't be able to get 100 free Overwatch league tokens. I like this. A lot. This is probably one way of trying to battle against toxicity. If you are a toxic player, you won't get free stuff.EDIT - Confirmed by Blizzard, if you have any penalties you will not be able to claim your free 100 tokens after signing up https://i.imgur.com/q5i1TXB.png[link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 08:04 AM PST So I made a post a few days ago asking why the OWL Sombra skins all keep her classic purple hair, even though all her rare/epic skins have the hair color matching the outfit. I decided to edit the skins, so they would look somewhat close to how they would've looked like if Blizz decided to change the hair color, I'm not sure all of them are the best, but I have tried my best since most color palettes contain more than 2 colors it might not be the best hair color for all of them, but I did try. Posted: 10 Jan 2018 12:40 AM PST A smurf is an account that you intentionally keep at a low rank so you can bop the people who are there naturally. In order to smurf, you have to intentionally keep yourself from ranking up. This includes throwing games or feeding etc. The word 'smurf' is a negative word, by definition. An alt account is simply a 2nd account. A GM does his placements and gets placed in diamond (ie. Sillkthread). He/she is not smurfing. They are not intentionally placing in diamond with the intention of ruining others games and plan to leave that rank as quickly as possible. Having an 'alt' is not negative. It's simply a 2nd account. It seems everyone on this site calls every account that isn't their main a smurf, which makes what a smurf actually is fuzzy. "wraxu has 5 smurfs" No he doesn't he has 5 accounts all in GM. 5 alts. If you smurf, you're a dick. If you have an alt you just have 2+ accounts. Please use the correct word when referring to accounts, because you're unintentionally giving some players a bad rap. [link] [comments] |
