Make sure to update to the latest version and enable experimentation build. You can then press ALT+F3 and set colors like you would in reshade/sweetfx and add colorblind filters.

I have a GTX760, not sure which GPU's are supported, so might check on that.

Research: Black Lion Garden Profitability

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 05:54 AM PST

/edit: every claim in this post has been double checked. If there's still a mistake, tell us about it. Otherwise, enjoy, and go make an informed purchasing decision.

tl;dr: Do not buy if you expect to make gold from it. Maybe buy if you enjoy having a garden, but consider that Stardew Valley costs about as much as 1000 gems and offers a far superior farming experience.

For those who missed Evon's in-character announcement of the gem store items, the following will be presented in-character by my favourite asuran researcher.

Hello Bookahs! Straight from our Asura labs, we bring you data about

Black Lion Garden Profitability!

If you haven't read, each plot costs 1000 gems (around 300 gold), and contains 4 nodes. Now what can you do with those nodes? Buckle up, we've got numbers incoming!

Strategy #1: Plant cooking ingredients

"50 crops" they announced, and guess how many crops there are? Precisely 51, according to master researcher /u/dulfy, who provided a list.

So if you were thinking about planting the good stuff, forget it. Orrian Truffle, Snow Truffle or Ghost Pepper, which sell for for ~6-8s, are not available. Neither are Flax or Mussels. Mussels aren't even a plant, dummy.

We sent our intern to correlate the list with TP prices, and the best she could find were Lemongrass, Garlic, Onion, Black Peppercorn and Clove, which yield ~2.5-3 silver each, minus TP tax.

Hobby researcher /u/Nekretaal informs us that each node yields two items per day.

Spending 1-2 minutes running around a home instance to gather less than 20 silver is a waste of time. Unless better plants are available, the Flax or Elder Wood farming spots are currently more profitable than a personal ingredient garden, and they don't cost 1000 gems to unlock.

So there. Adds checkmark onto her clipboard

Strategy #2: Crafting the Primers

You can craft Flasks of both Metabolic Primers and Utility Primers. Each primer lasts 2 hours and takes 16 plants exclusive to the garden, 1 Water and 1 T6 Dust (~12s). We trust fellow researcher /u/Lacero_Latro that each node yields 2 plants per day, thus you can craft one primer every two days per Deed.

How much gold do the primers save?

Alright, I'll explain the math, but just once. Let's take Red-Lentil Saobosa. It costs ~10s and lasts for 30 mins. The primer extends that duration to 2h, saving you up to 3 snacks, thus saving ~30s, but it costs 12s to craft. At one primer every two days, the average daily savings per Deed are ~9s.

See? Math isn't hard. Here's the condensed version.

  • Koi Cake, ~3s, 20 mins. Daily savings: 3s
  • Red-Lentil Saobosa, ~10s, 30 mins. Daily savings: 16s (if you use a Koi Cake to prime the Primer)
  • Tuning Icicle, ~4s, 30 mins. Daily savings: none.
  • Toxic Focusing Crystal: ~11s + 20 Empyreal Fragments, 30 mins. Daily savings: 10s / 30 fragments
  • Bountiful Maintenance Oil: ~20s, 30 mins. Daily savings: 24s
  • Tin of Fruitcake: ~10s, 30 mins. Daily savings: 9s.
  • Bowl of Sweet and Spicy Butternut Squash Soup: 110s (craft)/135s (buy), 60 mins. Daily savings: 49s (craft) 61s (buy)
  • Writ of Masterful Malice or Strength: ~70-90s, 30 mins. Daily savings: ~100-130s

If you thought 20 silver per day wasn't enough, then the primers won't be useful for most of the food either. The exceptions are BoSaSBSS with 49 to 61s per day, and Writs with 100 to 130s per day. If you play at least one hour per day with that stuff, then one Garden Deed might recoup its costs after 1.5 to 2 years (BoSaSBSS) or even in a year (Writs). Unless you waste half of the primer idling in Lion's Arch, like the inefficient Bookah you are.

(Aside: if you use any consumables that cost significantly more than 1g per 30 minutes, it may be better to buy the full 12 hour primers instead of using your inferior home-grown ones.)

But remember the variables involved. Ingredients might get cheaper. Or ectos (and thus dust) rise again. Or the meta changes, and you can use cheaper food. Or someone discovers an alternative recipe, like Red-Lentil Saobosa instead of those pizzas. It's a gamble, make your own choices. I'll make a checkmark on my clipboard and move on.

Strategy #3: Dye unlocks

There are also the four "Guaranteed <Hue> Dye Unlock", craftable from plants exclusive to the garden. Not every race can have pretty ears like us, but maybe some expensive dyes can help you feel pretty?

However, if you manage to craft one of these, then it says right on the item

| Exclusive colors obtained through Gem Store dye kits are not included.

(Thanks to /u/whowantblood for confirmation #1 and /u/Jhoryn for confirmation #2)

You can only get dyes available from Unidentified Dyes, and those are not very expensive. Many of them are cheaper than the crafting mats required for a dye unlock.

Getting a Deed to unlock dyes is not worth it. Buying all the regular dyes directly on the TP for gold is cheaper than buying a Deed. But we both know you're going to use Antique Gold anyway, so why bother getting all the dyes in the first place?

Don't answer that question. I'm busy checkmarking.

Strategy #4: Sharing your home instance

Everything about the primers and dye unlocks is account bound. Others may be able to gather the plants, but they seem to be unable to use them because they don't have access to the recipes - those require finishing the collection, and that requires buying a Deed of your own. You could share your Lemongrass plants, but last I checked (and I have the checkmark to prove it!) they were still borderline worthless, and you're better off inviting your friends to a flax farm.

Why are you even asking? Do you even have friends? Shoo, I'm checkmarking.

Strategy #5: Plant Sylvari

I'm.. not sure why this is on my list. This isn't even my handwriting. But it is on my list, so I've done some research.

Just like the new plants for the Primers, Sylvari cannot be deposited into storage, and suitable housing is going to set you back another 800 gems for a character slot. Despite meticulous research, we haven't been able to turn Sylvari into profit, so let me be clear on this: Do NOT grow Sylvari unless you can provide a suitable home and enjoy walking them at least once a day. They're not toys. They're not a source of income. Understood?

Oh why do I even bother. My job is done, now leave me alone.

Daily PvE Achievements could use some improvements

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 10:40 AM PST

The dailies always feel like a chore to me. They're not that fun, but I do them to get the 2 gold. The vista and gathering ones are trivial, and the map event one is often annoying trying to find events or get to them in time.

For the event one, I don't see why they can't show all the active events on the map. It would increase event participation overall, which seems like a good thing.

I liked the old daily achievements more. They seemed more varied from day to day, and they could mostly be completed in whatever content you decided to do. They didn't force you to go to specific maps, and you could do them at any level. I understand that wouldn't work now that it rewards you 2 gold, but I think they could find some middle ground where there's a little more freedom in the dailies but it's still hard to do if you're not max level. Or just lock the dailies until max level and then they can design them however they want.

Maybe they could allow the daily LW map achievements to count towards the general dailies.

Do you guys like the way the dailies work currently? How would you change them?

[LN] - Restricted 5 Man Sabetha Kill (No Druid or Chrono) - Off Meta Comp

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 07:47 AM PST

Hey Guys,

We took upon ourselves the challenge to make a restricted 5 Man Sabetha kill. We started out with a pretty much the "known" standard meta setup:

1x Chrono, 1x Druid 1x Soulbeast 1x Warrior 1x Dps Slot (in our case a Necro)

We were testing around with this for quite a while. Condi/power druid, necro or a soulbeast kiter. Even toggling the kite role between cannon jumpers and the current kite etc. All of those tries ended up with the same bittersweet result.
The druid and the chrono were providing essential buffs, but unfortunately were also huge sinks in terms of dps and would've made a kill really hard or almost impossible to achieve. After a few rounds of theorycrafting, testing and given the latest changes to GotL, we tried to fit in a support Revenant paired with a Chrono focussed on quickness and a PS Warrior, allowing to skip the druid entirely. We hoped to gain a lot of momentum and pressure on the boss due to the higher damage potential, but the altered Chrono fell short on dps. So we replaced the chrono with a quickness firebrand and the results were without comparison. Suddenly we gained more dps than the standard meta composition, even without having permanent buffs.

So our line-up for the kill consisted of: 1x Quickness/Support Firebrand 1x Support Revenant 1x PS Warrior (1 cannon) 1x Soulbeast (2 cannons) 1x Necro (Kiter)

1. Quickness/Support Firebrand

This started off as a pure quickness buffer with a semi high damage output and developed itself into one of the key members within the group due to the general utility the Firebrand kit brought to the fight. The Firebrand was able to relieve a lot of the pressure with the added utility. Next to aegis, protection, fury, stability, a bit of might, he distributed quickness. We chose to run sword/scepter for fury and might, next to the safety range option. The tome of resolve gave a needed healing modifier, which synergized pretty well with Revenant heals. The tome of courage negated projectiles with Valiant Bulwark, gave on demand protection and stability for the trash mobs.

2.Support Revenant

Similar to the Firebrand, the Revenant gave first and foremost access to alacrity, but assisted the group in a similar fashion. Both the Revenant and the Firebrand turned the support into dps slots since both of them permanently stayed on the plattform. Due to issues with flak in the beginning of our journey and cannon aoes overlapping, staying full melee was rough and incoming damage was hard to avoid. The solution to this was running a shortbow as a second weapon set, which resulted to be less of a dps loss than expected and also provided some extra cc for Knuckles, even though it saw rarely play within our runs. Further add-control due to Darkrazor's Daring wasn't needed, since the necro took care of it for the most part.

3. PS Warrior

Seems pretty old fashioned to run a Warrior with Phalanx Strength after the changes to druid and Grace of the Land, but we only needed might for five party members. We decided that the Warrior should take one cannon, since its one of the better classes to do this with and the combination of Revenant, Firebrand and Necro would also generate some might in the meantime. So our might distribution in the end was 10 Warrior, 4-5 Firebrand, 5 Necro and 5-6 Revenant, which would result in overall in 25 might stacks and allowed the Warrior to still run renegade runes. Oh and banners of course.

4. Soulbeast

Since we ditched the druid, we still wanted access to spirits and the soulbeast was our main cannon jumper. The soulbeast ran both sun and storm spirit, at the start even a water spirit, but . was ditched for a more reliable personal heal after a bit. The added burning and vulnerability were needed to increase the group dps. Both cannon jumpers tried to toggle the aggro of the red bombs between each other, so the melee members didn't have to deal with this.

5. Necro

The general idea at first was to cut the Mesmer focus pull and let the Necro handle the trash mobs and add some needed extra pressure on Sabetha and the three minibosses. In the process it turned out the necro was as an excellent choice for kiting Sabethas flak shots. While losing the least amount of dps, drawing aggro, disabling and killing the continuously spawning adds minimizing the stress for the other members. Toggling the aggro between those on cannon duty and the necro was crucial, since we needed to reduce the cooldown of epidemic with alacrity from the revenant and allow the necro to go into melee range more often. We also chose to run a dagger offhand next to the torch, to continuously bounce burning stacks from the flak shots onto Sabetha, which added up with the length of the fight.

General Gameplan:

The moment we found our group composition, we had to go through a lot of trial and error to balance the plattform health, Sabethas health and the needed pressure for the minibosses. We decided to leave up different cannons throughout the fight to avoid less optimal phase timings. Leaving up the east cannon and doing south instead, while Knuckles was crucial, so we had full five members to bring him down as fast as possible. A potential third breakbar would've been an issue and this strategy worked for us. This composition heavily relies on stacking properly to gain the optimal amount of buffs, which at times was rough due to cannon aoe's overlapping, heavy bombs, flak and the overall pressure from the trash mobs.

In hindsight the platform was pretty healthy, maybe too healthy and we could have optimized it even more to get a faster kill as a result, but in the end we are happy with how it turned out overall. Despite the still bugged healing mantra of the Firebrand, most of the mechanics were handled pretty well, even though the uptimes and rotations could be further improved, providing a even faster and smooth kill.

Actual Kill Log

To take this even further, we want to release a 10 Man kill within a week with a similar composition for MO and Sabetha, which should do even more dps due to epidemic bounce, pinpoint, banner distribution etc...

The 10 Man composition could look like this:

Sabetha:

  • 2x Warriors (1x cannon jumper)

  • 2x Necros (one as a kite, to bounce epidemic)

  • 2x Firebrands

  • 2x Revenants

  • 1x Holosmith

  • 1x Soulbeast (cannons jumper)

Mursaat Overseer:

  • 2x Warrior

  • 2x Holosmith

  • 2x Firebrands

  • 2x Revenants

  • 1x Condi Thief

  • 1x Soulbeast

PoV´s:

For Science: Loot, Palawadan, and Everything - A Unified Profit Model for Istan in Google Sheets (RIP Palawadan)

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 10:08 AM PST

HEADS UP: Palawadan was stealth-nerfed yesterday and you can no longer loot a supply stash multiple times even on a single character, so the maximum number of chests you can get per event is now 30. I guess I should have been an opportunist and taken advantage of the event more instead of doing this... oh well, for science! This research can still be useful in understanding drop rates for unidentified gear and more, plus the event should grow slightly more profitable over time as trophy and leather prices rebound. Best of luck to you!

Some of you may recall a previous post I made regarding the profit impact of Magic Find buffs on opening unidentified gear. As I was researching that, I grew more interested in understanding just how much profit I could make farming Istan events. After posting, I worked on collecting all the data needed to build a functional profit model and calculator, synced to current TP prices via API calls, usable by everyone in Google Sheets. This post will detail where you can get the model and what went into the research for it. But first:

TL/DR: As an example, looting 80 30 Supply Stashes (RIP Palawadan) in one Palawadan raid, doing 4 Great Hall events between Palawadan raids, and opening unidentified gear at 750% magic find, you can currently earn the following:

Event: Palawadan Great Hall Istan Total
Runtime: 35 min 85 min 120 min
Absolute Profit: 14g 47s 72c 19g 52s 03c 33g 99s 74c
Gold per Hour: 24g 81s 80c 13g 77s 90c 16g 99s 87c

These are entirely dependent on current TP prices, which can change dramatically over time. These numbers were calculated using prices around 12:00 PM EST on 1/10/2018. And of course, the more events you do or stashes you loot, the bigger the profit.

To reduce the wall of text here on Reddit, I made a website which thoroughly covers all aspects of the model, data, research, and more.

TO GET THE MODEL, CLICK HERE.

To learn how to use the model, click here.

To learn how to farm Istan, click here.

To submit your own data or research for inclusion in future versions of the model, click here.

To submit suggestions, requests, or bug reports regarding the model or website, click here.

One primary objective of this model is to be future-proofed against changing TP prices and dynamics. That's why a lot of API calls are used to bring in live TP prices, as well as historical prices for a trended view of profitability. I expect to release future updates as I collect more data myself or accrue data from those contributing through the website. This will help refine expected drop rates of unidentified gear and other items, improving the accuracy of the model.

Perhaps the biggest challenge of building this model was solving for drop rates from unidentified gear at varying magic find levels. I also got plenty of feedback from my previous post saying that the sample size of 2,000 was too small to draw significant conclusions. I agreed with that, and approached this task by opening a total of 42,000 pieces of unidentified gear (27,000 blue, 10,500 green, 4,500 yellow), but doing so at a wide range of magic find levels (225% to 650%). The intent here was to create enough data points to calculate a linear regression model that could accurately predict drop rates at any MF level. Drop rates from 1,000 pieces of unidentified gear at a single MF level won't be precise enough to use as a predictor, but measuring 1,000 pieces at each of 27 different MF levels would mitigate the variance enough to come up with a reliable predictive formula.

To review the research on unidentified gear drop rates, click here.

I think that's everything! Let me know in the comments if there's anything I can explain further or any questions I can answer. I hope this model helps you in some small way. You can find me leading the "RAID JOKO" Istan groups on LFG for NA servers on my warrior "Kima Vysoren".

Good luck and have fun!

[New Release] Wardrobe Unlock Analyser

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 07:55 PM PST

Some of you may be familiar with my previous site, the Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock Analyser, which was designed to aid exploration of the items available through the Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock item and determine what cheap items you could pick up to ensure better results when consuming one. That site was great and all, but perhaps a little niche... So I'm proud to announce the release of:

Wardrobe Unlock Analyser

Unlike its predecessor it includes all available skins (except mount skins) and their methods of acquisition. It retains the ability to filter to Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock items only as well.

How to Use

The main part of the site is the browse page. This contains a list of all skins, broken down by major categories. Entering an API key with unlock permission will filter out any skins you already have unlocked. You can further filter down to certain methods of acquisition (gold, karma, crafting, badges of honor) and to skins which are part of the guaranteed wardrobe unlock. There is also a text display mode which can aid searching for a specific skin.

Clicking a skin will show a detail pane. This has a link to the wiki, and may also have vendor listings where applicable (but not all the time because processing vendor pages on the wiki is a little tricky).

The second page, Analyse, has a small tool for discovering what items you need to obtain to ensure a minimum value when using a Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock.

Known Issues

  • Some of the mount minis have names like '((14843))' - this is what comes out of the GW2 API, so I have left it alone for now.
  • Some wiki links won't work because the wiki page that matches a skin name or id doesn't exist.
  • When filtering by Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock, I have intentionally made it match the exact items included - this means that items that will unlock together aren't all marked as coming from the Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock - for example, only the chest pieces of gemstore armor sets. I may revisit this later (I did it this way so it was easier to double check that the site matched the actual contents of the Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock).
  • No mounts yet. I will add them at some point, but they aren't so interesting right now - I think the community is well aware of how to obtain all of them right now :)
  • Categories were arbitrary determine by me. If you have any suggestions feel free to throw them at me.
  • When new items appear they are thrown into an Uncategorised category at the bottom of their section. This means I still need to hook up their acquisition methods - they may also be unreleased.

seems like some applications (like gw2eff) have to still adapt; but it's live as you can check on discord's GW2Bot and maybe some other application (didn't test)

We need a change in gem quantities and prices.

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 07:32 AM PST

Since a lot of the stuff that's being released is below 800 gems or over 800 gems I feel the module needs an update.

either add other tiers like 400, 800, 1000, 1500,2000 etc etc or......

Work out a rate per 100 gems and allow us to purchase at variable rates. A bit like in gem gem/gold conversion.

I have to either buy 1600 or 2800 gems tonight when I get home from work when I only need to spend 1000 or 2000 depending on how many Garden plots i want.

Whats your thoughts? I don't think this is too much to ask for is it?

I do understand you can buy with in game gold at any quantity, but sometimes you have in game expenses an are lacking it, On Monday I had 700 gold, yesterday I was left with 200, so sometimes that isn't an option and i get my purse out. :)

[QoL request] Dear Anet, could you hand out all raid rewards using bouncy chests?

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 10:08 AM PST

This week I forgot to pick up W5B3 boss chest, yet again...

Those three statues are very spread out, and my group clears W3 after W5B3, so I always forget to pick up my chest and leave the instance.

This bouncy chest mechanic also helps out those who haven't max out Tyrian Mastery.

100CM and 99CM hand out their special rewards via bouncy chest, I think raid bouncy chest shouldn't limited to champ bags and currency only.

Pls Anet?
