[US] 6 man Dhuum kill

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 11:29 AM PST

After doing 8 man for a few weeks, we wanted to try and lowman Dhuum for real. With 8 man you have a lot of time left and you can easily 2-phase the last 10%, so instead of 7 man we went straight to 6 man. We spent about 30 pulls yesterday figuring out which roles to do where, and today we killed it in our first pull!

Role Character Account Video
Kiter Druid Samara Dzjudz.9142 PoV
Condi Druid Franka Zapp teHHnz.7348 PoV
Chrono Fenfa lion.7416 No PoV
Banner War Valatyr PandaBear.6750 PoV
Weaver 1 Elänor palouff.2956 PoV
Weaver 2 Vaedná xXCurryKingXx.8349 No PoV
  • DPS log

  • For classes we just took meta builds for buffs and boons, meaning chrono, warrior and druid for support and weavers for max dps. As kiter we didn't experiment, we simply took a druid so we could take all four spirits and a couple of glyphs of empowerment to try and buff the weavers as much as possible. The green druid was condi with shortbow and staff (sigil of nullification on staff for boonstrip, although the chrono managed to strip all boons on his own). The weavers shared their conjures.

  • We couldn't send a weaver to greens as that would pose a big dps loss, so both druids and the warrior took a green. At some points the messenger kiting could have been shared between the druids if needed, although in the actual kill this wasn't necessary (although the green druid took one aggro accidentally).

  • The chrono tank took two greens himself, leaving the warrior or druid in either case to stay down and dps or support the team. Dhuum acts strangely when the tank takes a green and simply stands still until the tank is back down, it's obviously not an intended mechanic. Since we had time left at the 10% phase we most likely could have done it with the chrono tank not taking any greens.

  • At the end, since we were with 6 and there are 7 buttons, one person had to take two buttons. The chrono ran out to one button and used it, at which point he ran to a second button and the rest of the group ran to their buttons.

  • We almost killed it in two burn phases, and it can be done by pushing some more dps I'm pretty sure (for example we lacked some alacrity and also I didn't use nature spirit, which would've added stability meaning some dps increase for the weavers). In addition, our weavers delayed meteor shower during the second burn phase to use during the third phase instead.

  • There are quite a few ways to optimise this run and do it faster (taking less tanky chrono/druid, taking 3 spirits on one and some dps utility on condi druid, taking other classes altogether, etc), but we simply did it to show it's possible. Whether a 5 man Dhuum is possible I don't know, but I invite anyone to attempt it :D

Is there any explaination why the weaver makes this face when using the elite skill?

I like cosplaying ingame!

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:58 AM PST

I think I've gone overboard. I've got 9 characters that are for cosplaying.

Braum from LoL

He was in a Santa hat for Wintersday

Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica

Ruby Rose from RWBY

Ruby Rose closeup

The 1st screenshot stinks because I wanted to show off the Sunscythe AND her outfit.

Poro from LoL

Kindred from LoL

Leona from LoL

Asuna Yuuki from Sword Art Online

and I realize she's a popular character to make.

Diana from LoL

She's styled as the Dark Valkyrie skin because it was easier to make

Pyrrha Nikos from RWBY

She's still a work in progress .

I hope you liked them! I realize Kindred is kinda horrifying.

Which do you prefer: game engine cut-scenes or the artsy, pre-rendered ones?

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 11:44 AM PST

As the tile says. I've been re-playing LS3 and got chills (like the first time) during the cut-scene at the start of episode 1: Out of the Shadows, when the commander flies towards Bloodstone Fen and the Bloodstone explodes. The artwork is just amazing and works really well for captivating the impact of what is happening. A few chapters later, during episode 4: The Head of the Snake (from the same dev team!), the siege of Divinity's Reach is shown using the in-game engine. Though this allows the devs to show Queen Jennah working her magic, the siege is lackluster: only three shots are fired at the palace and the water rushing out of the broken dam is only given in audio as the in-game engine doesn't allow for these kind of effects. More recently, the devs have combined both styles, as can be seen at the ending of Path of Fire.

So which would you prefer to see in the upcoming releases? Would you like to see the devs pushing the limits of the engine in order to give us in-game cut-scenes or do you prefer the artsy cut-scenes that have been around since release?

Edit: Well apparently being able to skip cut-scenes is a bigger concern ^ Apart from that people have put forth some valid points: both styles have a place for telling a story, the in-game style being more personal and up-close, while the artsy style can tell epic moments. I just hope Anet will find the right balance in using both of them!

Anyone else getting constantly high ping?

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 03:05 AM PST

When I started out the game about a week ago, everything was fine and it wasn't laggy at all, but over the past few days I seem to have been lagging like crazy (my skills taking a few seconds before they would even work)

I checked my ping and it's always at 500+ now, sometimes even reaching 2k. I didn't know what my ping was when I first started playing, but I didnt have the same kind of lag I did a week ago.

I tried searching for any advice on this but I can't seem to find any, so if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.

How to Jackal super jump?

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 10:06 PM PST

Just got the doggo today and been playing around with it, and occasionally I was able to super jump. The height is probably around the same as a vanilla springer. But I can't figure out how to do it consistently.

Couldn't find anything in sub-reddit history or in the official forums, just this video showing the same thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7T2q2FVCmQ

anyone know what't the trick to doing this?

EDIT: It seems the Springer and Jackal has 3 different levels of jumping, not including special abilities. A normal jump, high jump (as seen in video), and a "moon" jump (/u/WarStormrage).

From what I can tell it's extremely timing sensitive. There exist a golden window during the landing animation where if you jump again, you'll get the moon jump. Miss the timing by a bit and you get the high jump. Miss anymore than that and it becomes normal jump.

It's VERY difficult to do without a key repeater, but possible. If done consistently imo it makes the Jackal a top tier open world mount.

I would legitimately be interested in hosting official 1 V 1 streamed tournaments with gold prizes

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 10:12 PM PST

Let's face it. A special population of this community enjoys dueling almost exclusively. I would love to reach out to people who enjoy one-on-one combat scenarios and host official streams with rosters, and of course prizes. I would love to start a competitive Community of the champions of one-on-one combat. I would love to give people who really enjoy this aspect of the game a way to show off their hard work of honing their skill.

Edit: due to all the support this thread has received, I am genuinely going to try to start at least a monthly 1V1 streamed tournament. I would love to work with individuals with knowledge of how different amulets with different classes interact in one 1V1 scenarios to try to create the most balanced parameters possible. Once again if you feel you have input feel free to contact me. Let's make a new competitive scene. One our community directly gets to moderate. Spread the word, hell even get a friend you feel is qualified to contact me, I don't care.

Surviving as a DH in fractals without supports

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:46 AM PST

Hello,

I'm having a lot of struggle surviving as a guardian in some T3 or T4 fractals. Having only 12k HP due to berserker gear, I'm getting rekt by some boss when we don't have supports. And even with support, it's kinda difficult due to the fact that I can't see shit with all those effects except from boss patterns.

Some experienced DH could give me some tips to use my aegis skills properly? Or is it normal to die a alot when we don't have those supports like Chrono or Druid , as a DH.

Because I don't have any problem surviving while playing my BS warrior because of my HP Pool being way higher.

[One of] My biggest criticism of GW2 is...

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:30 PM PST

Hello Folks!

I've been playing GW2 since the closed beta, on and off, mostly because of my busy life, rather than because of the game itself (except the first time I stopped, which was because of my faulty approach to it).

I really love the game now, and like all things in life, nothing's perfect, and GW2 is no exception there.

Well, I've read a lot of criticism for it, and I will try not to repeat those rather well known things and chewed up criticism, and point out a different thing which bugged me since the start, and which I just could never wrap my head around it properly and get used to it. Maybe I missed something in playing the game all these years? Maybe I didn't understand something, or just my mental prowess didn't allow me to realize it, but one of my biggest criticisms of GW2 is

The Mystic Forge

Why? Because without an online guide, I would have been lost so many times, and I wouldn't know at all how to get some things or what is even possible to be done with the Mystic Forge! No where in the game did I find an elaborate explanation of what is possible with the forge! Sure, you get explained to you how it is used, and some mats show in the tooltip that they can be used in the Mystic Forge, but besides that, you have no idea what you can achieve ultimately with it, without using a guide! Nothing that "guides" you in game, even fleetingly.

That bothered me all this time so much, and it is one of the rare things that, at least for me, ruined the immersion of the game completely. It seemed like a thing where you have to experiment with it blindly, and see what happens, if you go in without a guide. I don't know if that was the point of it, but for me that's a bad game mechanic in this context.

It always bothered me, but I feel like I am missing something here, which could have very well been the case?!

Anyway, what are your thoughts on it? Is it a good game mechanic and is the way it is presented sufficient?

I would love to hear you thoughts on it and maybe even change my mind!

Cheers, and kudos to all of the community!

Connection/disconnection after latest patch

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:20 PM PST

Anyone else is having connection/disconnection issues after the latest patch? I currently facing an obnoxious number of DCs while playing the normal game (personal instances or even normal maps) and I did not even play those high latency maps (e.g. those maps that are having the "Current Events" meta)

I can stream 2140k videos on Youtube with no issues before anyone comments on my cable connections.

edit : when I say obnoxious, it means every 30-45 mins.

Bug with GH chests?

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:17 PM PST

Just did Great Hall, participated in ALL events, killed Amala and all of the chests were already opened in her room and outside? I haven't done the meta at all today and I don't understand why they were already opened.

[MnF] Dhuum CM Kill

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 11:33 PM PST

Hello!

[MnF] got our first Dhuum CM kill tonight and we are pretty excited! After dealing with the holidays and scheduling conflicts, we were able to put together a group and kill it. In total it took about 15 hours spread across 5 days, though with serious attempts and progression occuring the last 3 days. Our comp, tanking strategy, and stopping after about 2 hours of pulls every day greatly contributed to our relatively low total hours spent.

Comp:

  • Druid - Spike

  • Druid/Kiter - Bloo

  • Chronotank - Rubik

  • Chrono/Green 2 - Xcorpdog

  • Mirage/Green 1 - Chunk

  • Mirage/Green 3 - Narra: https://youtu.be/USNSr-CEDQU

  • BS - MGdawg

  • Weaver - Eldorez

  • Weaver - Levi

  • Weaver - Reisen

Log: https://dps.report/bvqm-20180112-193935_dhuum

Pic & subsquad setup: https://imgur.com/BTwE6Vy

Overall we decided that 2 healers with the highest DPS classes on Dhuum CM would provide the fastest kill and therefore the smoothest, as the fight seems to get more and more hectic as it continues. Our initial attempts had the kiter druid also doing greens but this caused both our druids to be overloaded so we changed up our strats, opting to remove a renegade and a weaver we initially had for 2 mirages. Mirages are great additions to Dhuum cm for numerous reasons; jaunt is amazing for condi cleanse and teleports for going to greens, boon & condi strips via nullfield/disenchanter, and little need for alacrity which allows our non-tank chrono to go to greens with little loss in DPS. Aside from the mirages, the weavers provide the highest DPS on dhuum and don't give him retal like a DH might.

Our strategy for tanking was relatively simple and probably mimics most other groups. Tank at the last enforcer spawn and endure the awkwardness of stacking in a corner with ender's echo until the first poison circle, which we then camp closer to the middle for the duration of the fight. Constant call outs on ender's locations and stacking together tight for condi cleanses and heals during dhuum's suction attack helped us make sure everyone was still alive at the last 10%.

Dhuum CM is a great encounter that should remain challenging for groups well into the future. It really emphasizes coordination & group communication at a level no other boss in GW2 has provided so far. We look forward to seeing this trend continue for fractals and raids in the future. See you at the next challenging content!

Also, [MnF] is recruiting NA players for raids clears & sells. Info here: https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/23764/na-mnf-raid-fractal-guild-recruiting#latest

[vS] Dhuum CM Kill

Posted: 13 Jan 2018 01:57 PM PST

We decided to wait with killing it because we thought there would be a new title but i guess exploiting is fine. Took us 208 pulls, really fun boss shame it got ruined with exploits.
