Destructoid: Bungie has absolutely bungled their communication efforts, the season concept, and the new Faction Rally

Bungie is Looking for Another Community Manager

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 05:53 AM PST

Here is the Job Posting. This may not say much but it's indicative that things must not be going swimmingly over at Bungie.

The fundamental issue: Nobody knows what kind of game Destiny2 is supposed to be. Not even Bungie.

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 04:21 AM PST

TL;DR: Bungie themselves don't seem to know what kind of game Destiny 2 is supposed to be, that's why the patches and fixes don't work toward something that makes sense or feels good.

Bungie has been messing up a lot lately. Small things like messing up engram drops and bis things like XP scaling or micropayments.

And the community is wondering how that can happen? How can these system be deployed in this obviously broken state? How can the fixes actually make things worse at times? How? It doesn't make sense.

But it does.

Bungie knew that they wanted to change certain things about Destiny with the new version. That had to do with required effort to keep the game going (content creation is hard and expensive), with questions on how to monetize as well as questions about the target audience and what kind of game would target it perfectly.

That in itself isn't a problem, it's a normal development process. It would even be ok to build a game that shares none of the target audience with the first incarnation, that's artistic freedom.

But the recent and not so recent design flaws and errors point at a different picture: It doesn't feel like Bungie itself does really know what kind of game Destiny 2 is supposed to be. An E-Sport of tactical teamplays? A story driven experience? Is it about getting loot?

If it was about loot you'd want very diverse weapons and armor with fascinating perks that radically change gameplay. Or you'd give loot deep stats so the numbers can go up (think Diablo). But that is fundamentally in opposition to the idea of having a balanced PvP E-Sport thing.

And we see that at every step of the way. Every little tweak works towards one goal that stands in extreme opposition to a whole bunch of other goals Bungie has - or claims to have - with Destiny 2.

And that's why I found the developer update so meh. I don't care too much about patches and fixes because I don't understand what kind of game Destiny 2 is supposed to be. Maybe certain things I don't like are actually working as intended. And that's cool. But I'd like to know, understand so I can make an informed decision. maybe D2 isn't my game anymore. That's sad but totally fine.

But right now I don't know. And I feel like Bungie doesn't either. And that's why so many of the patches look weird, counter-productive or dumb. Because there is no big picture.

Saw a comment and got curious, how many of you have stopped playing D2 but still come to this sub everyday for whatever reason?

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 08:38 AM PST

I'm not even sure what I'm looking for when I come here at this point but I can't seem to stop dropping by... Also I want a number of people who have jumped ship but still care enough (apparently) to see if this game could possibly make it through.

Age of Triumph shirt delay: 235 days and counting...

Posted: 17 Jan 2018 11:54 PM PST

Hey guys,

I'm super frustrated and just have to let off some steam. I worked so hard to get the Age of Triumph shirt code and I placed my order on the store site straight away. That was back in May of 2017... After multiple emails back and forth I discovered that:

  1. I was charged twice for gamertag printing

  2. My shirt was never printed after 2 months even though I received a shipping notice, I had to follow this up for them to even tell me is wasn't made in the first place

  3. The tracking info when it was sent out was incorrect, the number they gave me was 'non-existent'

  4. I pleaded for a replacement shirt, only for them to assume the original was being redirected to the warehouse (they would let me know if that happened and would resend it out)

  5. I asked for a manager to step in and have had no response yet

I'm completely baffled with this. It has been poor customer service, and I get that not everything always goes to plan, but to leave a customer's order unfulfilled for over 9 months is just crazy. I'm at a loss for what to do next.

The change from D1 to D2 is exemplified by bungie.net

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 05:02 AM PST

Back during D1, the bungie.net website was full of options, statistics and interesting things to do or read. Since D2 came out there is literally NOTHING left to do on the site. The entire front page is nothing but HUGE images of a weapon/person or location that when you click on them give you a line of text explaining what it is. Seriously, the shallowness and the blandness of D2 is perfectly summed up by the bungie.net website. A lot of flashy stuff, with literally no depth made by people who had to create something, but didn't know what to do with it.

Why are Gunsmith Telemetries so useless?

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 05:32 AM PST

Seriously?

They could've buffed them when they increased the number of tokens needed for rank up..

Can I talk a little bit about the PROs to this Faction Rally?

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 08:47 AM PST

  • The ability to purchase faction armor at ranks. I love this. During the last couple Faction Rally's I simply could not complete a single set of armor. I was getting very pissed when my fourth set of boots dropped and all I needed was the chest. The fact that you still need to rank up first is a good compromise for time investment and reward.

  • Earning ornaments through gameplay. This was simply a good idea. I like having a tangible goal in front of me.

  • Token rewards feel appropriate. I disagree with the lock out, buy I actually never experienced it. I was just playing normally. I'd do two public events and then two lost sectors. I earned over 200 tokens in about two hours.

Edit:

  • Also, I like lions.

  • Almost forgot: having the ornaments unlocked account wide is great!

Love for Deej & Cozmo

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 09:46 AM PST

Guys I want to start off by saying, like you I desperately want this game to be better. Frequently I've been frustrated by the decisions and the implementation of these new ideas and concepts. So many things have gone wrong and plenty of things have been less than stellar.

Despite all of those things I still really appreciate Deej and Cozmo (DMG too but he has to earn his stripes). Those two guys fight on our behalf and have to bare the backlash when another bad idea is implemented that they had no control over. We are all mad but let's not forget that these guys are humans with souls. Regardless of how negatively we feel about the game they still deserve to be treated with respect. They didn't make those decisions you disagree with they simply had to tell you about them. I know they too mess up, but we all do that's the beautiful part of being human. Anyways just wanted to keep this on our radars. Love you all.

Ornaments are not Ornaments.. just reskins.

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 03:54 AM PST

Warlock Dead Orbit Ornaments are just reskins (except the Chest), changing nothing on the model.. just the skin.

Same for Titan Future War Cult (except slight changes with Helmet and Towel).

Also i have the suspicion that the Lost Pacific Warlock Boots with the New Dead Orbit shader look exactly like the Dead Orbit Warlock Boots with the Ornament... will test this soon.

New Monarchy is the only one that's worth to be called Ornaments .. especially on Titan.

Shame...

Destiny HotFix 1.2.0.2. addressed double dipping treasure chests without adding a hidden cool down.

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 09:43 AM PST

Believe it or not, there was already a fix for double dipping planet treasure chests without adding a hidden cool down timer. The fix was implemented 06/02/2015 in HotFix 1.2.0.2 'The One That addresses some House of Wolves issues'
I know this was done 2.5+ years ago so maybe memories are short lived at Bungie
If only there was a place that chronicled all of the past Hot Fixes so awesome ideas of the past could be used again.

Bungie, you once fixed exploits in a way that did not punish us for playing, please go back to this thinking instead of adding more lockouts

If they are implementing 6v6 they are going to need to lower the current TTK or the 4 man holding hands and team shooting meta currently is only going to get worse with 6 man teams holding hands and team shooting.

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 09:19 AM PST

They can bring us in between D1 and D2 with TTK since better aim should be rewarded. As of right now, skill is not as important in the Crucible. They added a longer TTK so bad players would have a time to react. This is the problem, Bungie is handing out participation medals to the world rather than actually having someone have to practice to get good in the Crucible if they actually liked the Crucible by nerfing skill with a longer TTK.

People hate the team shooting meta as it is now with 4, imagine 6.

Make the Crucible Great Again

They also nerfed in air accuracy and never even gave us icarus back due to the fact that they don't want skilled players to benefit.

How is this game suppose to be eSports and competitive if skill cant be displayed?

Shouldnt the DLC be delayed until they fix the game?

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 10:41 AM PST

In light of all the recent errors they've made (some they we're outright caught and had to come clean), shouldn't they delay the March DLC and focus on fixing the game first?

The forthcoming kiosks should have Ships and Sparrows that we've already dismantled.

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 10:42 AM PST

Due to storage space considerations and me really wanting something available via direct purchase, I've occasionally had to dismantle some rather cool ships and sparrows for the Bright Dust. Has there been any word on whether the kiosks promised in the development update will be retroactive and reflect items we've obtained but later dismantled?

If not, BungiePlz.

Edit: Collections pages, not kiosks. My mistake.

Bungie, If you have any hidden or time-gated quests or weapons in the game now is the time to hit that "deploy" button.

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 11:08 AM PST

Anything positive, no matter how small, to add content to this game before the update on the 30th is sorely needed. I still believe in you Bungo, help us help you.

Last weekend had the lowest participation for Trials entire history (ever since it was first launched with House of Wolves)

Posted: 17 Jan 2018 07:06 PM PST

Couple weeks ago, /u/marteinnorn posted this: A worrying statistic - This weekend is on route to be the lowest participation for Trials entire history, even when compared to D1 [stats included]. In the end, that week still had more than 145,035 players, Destiny 1's lowest participation, two days before Destiny 2 launch, as seen here: Destiny Trials Participation (provided by /u/marteinnorn's post).

Last weekend, however, as can be seen here, the number of unique guardians that played Trials was 141,126. Comparatively, after the same amount of time that has passed since Destiny 2's launch had passed after The Taken King's release, Trials had around 450k unique players.

I was waiting for someone to post this, but as I've not seen a post about the subject, I decided to post it myself.

Dear Bungie: Why should I participate in the Faction Rally, if there's no new stuff till its over?

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 04:36 AM PST

I'm just gonna log on next tuesday and buy the winners offering. I already got all the old stuff. And don't tell me "cuz ornaments", cause they're all not worth grinding for.

Christopher Barrett: Our new goals for weapon rewards in Faction Rallies should have been broadcast before it returned. I think we could have avoided lots of confusion for players. The Development update was our priority.

follow up: "Going forward we'll strive to communicate any changes to rewards or experiences before they go live."

Farming Sagiras Shell was the most rewarding thing in D2 by far.

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 02:33 AM PST

There is nothing more rewarding that this in D2 right now. I have to admit it was actually fun and enjoyable to farm Sagiras Shell. It kept me busy and my mates and i had fun. But we noticed after we were done there was nothing to do. It is acutally sad that ppl like us can't just grind like this everyday. I love grinding weapons, armor or whatever. It gives me a reason to stay but D2 won't give you anything to farm for even if you have everything you wanted. It makes the game really boring and i kinda regret speding money on a game which isn't even finished.
